  2. You may already know that PS4’s upcoming system software 2.00, codenamed Masamune, adds some big features including Share Play, YouTube support, and Themes – but the updates don’t end there. I have personally stated in past blog posts that we listen to our fans. PlayStation has heard gamers when they say they want more ways to find friends to play with, and more ways to personalize their PS4. With this update, we’ve added a Players You May Know tile, the ability to listen to your music while gaming, the option to change the look of your PS4 experience, and easier ways to sort and filter your library of content on PS4. PS4 has been on sale for almost a year and we’re committed to improving the player experience in entirely new ways. As always, we welcome feedback as part of our ongoing effort to make PS4 the best place to play. USB Music Player: PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP. Change colors: In addition to the ability to add a theme, PS4 owners can also change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and gray. Players You May Know: PS4 will now suggest players you may know in the ‘What’s New’ section, recommending gamers your friends frequently play with. Enhancements to Live Broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts. Content Area and Library: PS4’s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organize contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date. Enhanced Voice Commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,†“End broadcast,†and “Find face.†Add To Library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive. Back Up Data: Data on PS4 can be backed up and resorted using USB storage. This will back up all data for the console, including settings, save data, screenshots, video clips, download data, and more. PS Vita and PS TV – 3.35 update, Live From PlayStationThe PS Vita and PS TV systems will also receive a system software update to version 3.35 with the same timing as Masamune, adding four-player Remote Play support to PS TV. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app, which allows users to watch live gameplay streams from PS4 systems, will be available on both PS Vita and PS TV alongside this update. PlayStation App 2.0 updateThe PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets, available free on the App Store and Google Play, is also set to receive an update to version 2.0 within the same launch window as both the PS4 and PS Vita system software updates. This update provides a new layout for tablets, and the app’s home screen has been redesigned. Stay tuned for more information on Masamune. We can’t wait for everyone to try it! * User can play music files stored inside USB storage but cannot copy music files to PS4 HDD. This application cannot be used at the same time with Music Unlimited. USB Music Player will appear once USB storage is inserted, and will disappear once USB storage is removed. View the full article
  3. Hello friend and lovers of all things Aksys! It is your loyal and humble servant, Frank “Bo†deWindt II, Director of Production here at Aksys Games. Today I bring to you joyous and momentous news in regards to our upcoming fighting game on PS4 and PS3, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-. But first, let me explain a little bit about the game for those that have no prior knowledge of the Guilty Gear series! The series has been around since time immemorial (and by that, I mean for 16 years!). It’s been redesigned from the world of 2D, to incorporate both 2D and 3D elements, making it a veritable feast for the eyes kind of experience, thanks to some technical Arc System Works magic and the Unreal 3 engine. Thanks to that, 3D models have been fashioned to create the illusion of 2D sprites without anyone being the wiser. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- has also enhanced its fighting mechanics and has significantly expanded upon one of the series’ long standing mechanics, the Roman Cancel! Thanks to that, players will be able to have a myriad of vast fighting styles at their command. The character roster also has a lot of familiar faces, from the widely known Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, two beacons of the Guilty Gear franchise, all the way to someone as cute and adorable as the Jellyfish pirate, May! Some of the newer characters include the unique and cunning, Bedman, who, like his namesake, is attached to and fights using nothing else but… A BED! And of course the monotone and lovely Ramlethal Valentine, whose swords, if used correctly, can really dish out some punishment on your opponent. Recently two more characters have been announced, Sin Kiske, who employs the power of lightning as well as a flag to battle his foes, and the lovely and pure Elphelt! But beware of her arsenal of guns! She’ll give a whole new meaning to the term, “Shotgun Weddingâ€. She will be a DLC character, just for the curious among you. This brings the current roster to a grand total of 16! Plenty of options to choose from to find the character the best suits you! Now that I’ve given a little bit of exposition on the game, I probably should keep the rest of my informational cards up my sleeve, but before I go, I need to tell everyone the big news! A release date for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- in the US has finally been decided! It will be… Tuesday, December 16, 2014! That’s like, so soon! (and only ~2 weeks after the Japanese release!) So now that everyone is informed, make sure to go out and pre-order it as soon as you can! Speaking of pre-orders, there will be both limited and standard editions of the game on both PS4 and PS3! The limited edition will contain a box to hold all the goodies, fashioned in the likeness of the “Backyardâ€, the Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Vocal Collection (just like the Japanese version!), the Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Character Book which will provide information on characters, terms, and concepts from the beginning of the series to the present, and finally, the Sol Badguy “FREE†belt buckle keychain! That LE sounds “Fireseal†hot! I would totally pre-order it ASAP if I didn’t work here already! So with all that info swirling in your heads, just remember, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- releases December 16, 2014! So pre-order away! And don’t forget the four magic words… Get ready to ROCK! This is Bo, signing off! View the full article

Available to purchase on PS3 and PS Vita on October 28th, Tiny Troopers Joint Ops will be available for the miniscule price of $7.99! The PS4 version will be released at a later date. 5. New York Comic Con has come and gone and the POWERS trailer is out there now for the world to see. We can’t thank you enough for all of your support and kind words of encouragement. We’re having a blast working on this show and we hope you’ll enjoy watching it as much as we love sharing it with you. With that, here are some of the highlights from the day. If you’re looking for a quick recap of the exciting tidbits we threw out during the panel, jump below the video. The big news is that while the entire series is free for PlayStation Plus members, the first episode will be made available via channels like YouTube, Crackle and PlayStation Store, so you can see it whether or not you have a PlayStation or PlayStation Plus. But if you’ve seen the trailer you know that the show will have a lot of mature content, so keep that in mind when you watch. We also announced during the panel that I’ll be writing one of the final episodes of season one. In keeping true to the fans of the comics, co-creator Michael Avon Oeming’s art (along with other well-known comic book artists like David Mack, David Marquez and Mike Allred) will be visible in the show through various art in Retro Girl’s apartment — as well as drawings of an exciting new character. Another cool tease that came out of the panel is that episode 5 will show a flashback to Walker’s former life as “Diamond†before his powers were stolen from him. And there’s plenty more where that came from. Stay tuned as we get closer to launch for behind the scenes clips, teases and more. Follow @POWERStheSERIES on Twitter and check back on PlayStation.Blog for more details on POWERS, coming this winter. View the full article

  7. Our journey is complete! Minecraft PS Vita Edition has landed on PlayStation Store in all its blocky glory. Once we heard the news, we went straight to one of our biggest internal Minecraft fans, Aram Jabbari from SCEA PR, to get an up-close-and-personal video tour. Aram gives an overview of what to expect from Minecraft PS Vita Edition, including a look at the user interface and some handy tips for surviving your first night. Minecraft PS Vita Edition supports cross save and cross buy with the PS3 Edition; once you own it, you can also pay $5 to upgrade to the recently released Minecraft: PS4 Edition. See the whole range of PlayStation Minecraft editions and more details on cross-buy support here. View the full article
  8. The brand new SingStar will be released on PS4 and PS3 in less than two weeks’ time, and we’re very excited to get it in to all SingStar players’ hands! Not only have we given the game an awesome interface overhaul, there are also tons of cool new features that I want to tell you about in a bit more detail. No mic? No problem. The free SingStar Mic app can turn your smart device into a microphone. Simply download the app on your Android phone, iPhone, or iPod Touch , connect it to the same wifi network as your PS3 or PS4, and get going instantly. To get all your friends at the party involved and have a go at winning (or failing miserably!), we’ve added a playlist creator to the SingStar Mic app so they can line up an ongoing list of songs while the singers are entertaining the room. Pick any of the songs available on the PlayStation system you’re connected to and just cue them up. Basically, no more waiting on the indecisive people in the room to decide if they want to sing No Doubt’s Don’t Speak or John Lennon’s Imagine. Got a competitive streak and want to beat down your PSN friends? Once you’ve finished your performance, you can challenge your PSN friends to beat your high-score. When practicing for those weekend parties it’s a chance to challenge friends and hit them with your best scores. High scores refresh weekly to keep the competition fresh and the challenges coming. We’re expecting to see some awesome performance videos from PS4 players. If you have a PlayStation 4 camera, you can now use it to create all kinds of amazing effects in your videos and snapshots. Swap color filters during gameplay and transform yourself into your favorite music persona using new AR masks to add a bit of atmosphere with some funky lighting effects. Check some of the effects and masks below. There’s so much more to discover in the new SingStar, but I think I’ll let you find out for yourselves on October 28th! iPod Touch, and iPhone are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. 9. Deep Silver and Volition recently announced a stand-alone expansion to Saints Row IV called Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell. Today, we’re going to delve into a special set of over-the-top weapons this expansion has to offer! Along with nine new weapons from Satan’s arsenal and four weapons brought back from Saints Row IV, players will be able to seek out a unique set of Seven Deadly Weapons — each the embodiment of one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Envy, Pride, Greed, Lust, Sloth, Wrath, and Gluttony. It was a happy accident for us that the weapon inventory wheel in Saints Row games has seven slots so we decided to pair one sin per slot: Melee, Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Rifle, Explosive, and Special. This means players may have all Seven Deadly Weapons in their load-out at a time! Collecting each weapon will not be easy, as each one has a unique and fun way of being obtained. Here is how it breaks down: Our melee slot weapon, Uriels Edge, is the Envy of Hell. This enormous fiery sword has a slash attack to cut down nearby targets and also can hurl devastating fireballs to destroy flying targets at range. It is rumored to be protected by the Arch-Dukes who rule over the five islands of the city of New Hades. Full of Pride, our pistol, Gallows Dodger, boasts of past and present murderous adventures when used. Shooting targets builds him into a frenzy, resulting in an explosive overkill mode. Getting revenge against a past enemy of the Saints can gain this weapon’s favor. Diamond Sting in the SMG weapon slot rapidly pelts targets with diamonds, causing them to drop additional Wages of Sin. This ability will help players max their upgrades in no time! This weapon can be owned by a master with a strong commitment to Greed. Boom Chicka is our shotgun weapon which shoots a spread of bullets laced with perfume designed to intoxicate enemies with Lust for their attacker. Upon being hit, targets will blindly frolic closer to the deadly spray of bullets! This weapon is treasured by a notorious ally. The epitome of Sloth, the rifle slot Armchair-A-Geddon allows the user to destroy targets from the comfort of a movable armchair. Equipped with dual mini-guns on the arm rests and the ability to launch anti-aircraft missiles upon recline — this weapon overwhelms targets. This weapon awaits a lazy master. The explosive weapon, Ark of the Covenant, sucks nearby target’s souls into the weapon and then unleashes them at range. Once fired, the Wrathful soul splits into multiple directions to attack additional nearby targets. This weapon must be taken from Satan’s top lieutenant of Hell — a worthy foe fans of the series will recognize. Last Supper from the special weapon slot can be used to spray tasty demonic frosting on a target, causing everyone nearby to Gluttonously ravage the target to death. For faster results, an explosive mode can send a glob of frosting to instantly coat multiple targets. This weapon can be found when trying to satisfy the need for munchies. We look forward to fans having as much fun using these weapons as we did coming up with them! Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is coming to PS4 and PS3 a week earlier than originally announce, January 20th, 2015! Fans can also pick up the game bundled with our new gen version, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. View the full article
  10. Back in 1996, legendary Game Director Shinji Mikami delivered an all-new way to experience suspense, horror, and action all together with Resident Evil. The game remains one of the most heralded games of its generation, and with it, Mikami-san became the creator of a new genre: survival horror. Eight years later, Mikami raised the bar for the genre with Resident Evil 4. Now 10 years later, with the support of his talented team at Tango Gameworks, the mind of Mikami is going back down a dark and twisted road… this time with The Evil Within. A game filled with terrifying and tense moments, it’s the perfect game for the month of October. In The Evil Within, you play as Detective Sebastian Castellanos, who after investigating a horrendous massacre at Krimson City’s Mental Hospital, is thrust into a bizarre world filled with menacing creatures and a mysterious evil stemming from the mind of a mad man, Ruvik. Spanning 15 challenging chapters, expect plenty of twists, unbelievable challenges, and memorable moments throughout. In our launch trailer above, get a tease of what to expect in the game – available today for PS3 and PS4. View the full article
  11. We’re back with the second and final installment in our behind the scenes video diary for The Legend of Korra — produced in partnership with Nickelodeon and developer PlatinumGames. Part two takes us deeper into this incredible world of elements and spirits, beginning with a more personal look at the Avatar herself, Korra, who struggles with her own powers and the weight of the decisions she’s made between Books 2 and 3 of Nickelodeon’s animated TV series. We also get to see PlatinumGames’ new combat and progression systems in action, which faithfully recreate Korra’s unique mastery of nature and the martial arts for some potentially devastating combos and finishers. The full adventure includes opportunities to ride Korra’s polar bear dog companion, Naga, in high-speed gameplay scenes through Republic City and beyond, as well as a separate game mode in which Korra and her allies take on the competitive challenges of the pro-bending league arena. And if you missed it, be sure to check out part one of our series, which looks at how Nickelodeon, Activision Publishing, and PlatinumGames found themselves working on this one-of-a-kind project. Legend of Korra is available for pre-order now on PlayStation Store. View the full article

  14. Today is the day, friends! Nidhogg is out on PS4, Vita, and Playstation TV! If you haven’t played it already, its a crazy fun two-player fencing-fighting game great for parties and awesome for online and offline play at home. The launch price is $14.99, and for PS Plus members, it’s on sale for $11.99 until October 28th. The best part is that Nidhogg features cross-buy and cross-play; meaning, if you own one, you own them all, and you can play across platforms! If you prefer playing with your friends in person, you can throw a Nidhogg party, since there is a built in tournament mode for three to eight people. You can play in single-player mode against AI opponents, or you can connect to PSN over wifi and play against other players, whether they’re on a Vita, PS4, or PlayStation TV! You can even play online across systems, such as: Vita vs PS4, Vita vs PlayStationTV, or PS4 vs PSTV. If you’re out of wifi range and you just want to play someone on the bus, or on a long car trip with two Vitas, you can do that in Vita to Vita ad-hoc mode. If you just have one Vita and two people, you can still play! The left stick controls one player and the right stick controls the other! Nidhogg’s soundscape consists of four dynamic songs by electronic music magician, Daedelus. The music track levels change based on the action on-screen, so you’ll never hear the same version twice! We hope you are as excited to play Nidhogg as we are in bringing it to you — en garde! View the full article
  15. Starting today, the PlayStation Now Open Beta will be available on both the PS Vita and PlayStation TV systems in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada, in addition to already being available on PS4 and PS3*. Our vision for PS Now is to make it possible for more people than ever to have quick and easy access to PS3 games, making it as easy to stream these games as it is to stream TV, movies, and music. PS Vita is an important part of that vision, as you’ll be able to rent a game on one device, like PS4, then continue playing on your PS Vita or vice versa. That’s possible because of our cloud technology, which lets you play select PS3 games from our library of over 150 PS Now titles including God of War: Ascension on both a home console and a handheld device without the need for game downloads, installs, or patches. PS Now makes the value of PS TV even better. The system, which launches today and starts as low as $99.99 MSRP, also provides one of the most affordable ways to get access to our library of PS3 games available on PS Now. In order to get access to the PS Now Open Beta, you’ll need to download the PS Now app from PlayStation Store. We’ll continue to collect feedback from PS Vita and PS TV users – keep it coming, and we hope you enjoy! *Service not available in all areas. A steady broadband connection greater than 5Mbps is highly recommended. See us.playstation.com/playstationnow for details. View the full article

It sits in a special place in the PlayStation platform ecosystem – as it can play titles from PS Vita, PSone , PSP, PS3 (through PS Now), and PS4 (through Remote Play). Of course PS TV plays entertainment content, including popular movies and TV shows that can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. PS TV will also launch with video streaming apps Crackle, Crunchyroll and Qello, and stay tuned for additional entertainment content we’ll be adding soon to the PS TV lineup. In addition, PlayStation Now is available on PS TV in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada* and will launch with games for the whole family like Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, Sly Cooper: HD Collection, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. 19. Hello, Dominic Matthews here from Ninja Theory. I wanted to come back to PlayStation.Blog to share our latest development diary with you and to also give an update on how things are progressing with the creation of our new PS4 title Hellblade. Back in August we announced Hellblade at PlayStation’s Gamescom Press Conference, which at the time was just 4 months into development. By traditional standards, we were announcing the game incredibly early in development. The reason for such an early announcement is that we want to share as much of Hellblade’s development with you as we possibly can. The standard approach is for games and their development to be hidden away, with details slowly drip fed to players very carefully and slowly over time. But we want to do the opposite. We announced early so that we could start sharing our development approach, creative exploration and decision making from the very beginning. Since Gamescom we’ve been updating our site with regular development diary videos, blog posts, concept art and live streams. We’ve released three development diaries to date, focused on the announcement trailer, Hellblade’s art inspiration and the game’s protagonist, Senua, respectively. Today, I’m very pleased to be sharing with you our very latest development diary, No. 4: Creating the World. This episode focuses on the approach that we’re taking to create Hellblade’s world with just one Environment Artist and the artistic vision behind it. The Hellblade team, which consists of 13 people, is currently embarking on the prototyping phase of development. In prototyping we’ll be exploring game mechanics, art styles, and technologies. Despite the small team, this is probably our most ambitious game yet. We are leaping into the unknown and overturning much of what we know about game making to make Hellblade play, look and feel special. Thanks a lot for reading, I hope to come back soon, but in the meantime I hope you follow our journey, get involved in the discussions and let us know what you think of our work so far. The journey is very much a part of the Hellblade experience. View the full article
  20. When PlayStation TV was first announced, we were super excited at the idea of having Killzone Mercenary running on a big TV screen. So, we went to work on making that idea happen, and are pleased to announce we can finally share the results. Killzone Mercenary update 1.11 is now available across all regions, bringing full support for the PlayStation TV system to Mercenary. The game does indeed look fantastic on the big screen, and the DualShock controls bring a new feel to the game’s mechanics. We’ve reworked all the touch mechanics to maximize the experience when played with those controls. Knowing that PS Vita players will play directly with PlayStation TV players online, we’ve worked hard to ensure the game is balanced for both parties, without either one having a competitive advantage. Also, as part of update 1.11 and in response to player feedback, we’ve finally been able to implement a restart-from-checkpoint system into the game — so campaign players can save progress mid-mission and return to it at a later date, without needing to hit the suspend button! Happy hunting Mercs, and don’t forget to let us know what you think to the changes. View the full article

  25. Here we go! I’m happy to announce our very first PlayStation Experience, a massive two-day community event dedicated to the people who bring PlayStation to life: you! We’ve been planning this bad boy for some time… and with PlayStation’s 20-year anniversary just around the corner, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Prepare for two intense days of PlayStation gaming, content, and activities. Attendees will sit in on in-depth panels, meet the industry’s best developers, score hands-on gameplay with tons of upcoming PlayStation games, collect free swag, and get a chance to purchase rare collectibles directly from their favorite game studios. Attendees will also get an exclusive first look at what’s coming next in 2015, which I am told you will not want to miss. The two-day community event will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 6th and 7th, 2014. And stay tuned for October 20th, when we release details on how you can be part of this legendary event; the one-day pass will cost $50.00, with the two-day pass going for $90. The venue is huge, too, so we’ll have plenty of room and plenty of games. Bring your friends and family (if they are 18 and over)! If you can’t make it to PlayStation Experience in person (we’ll miss you!), don’t worry. Per usual, PlayStation.Blog will be offering comprehensive coverage of the event, including breaking news as well as live video through multiple distribution channels. Stay tuned for further details on the event, programming information and much more. View the full article
