  1. This should interest you guys. Just saw this today. SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — It's not just cyberbullets that are exchanged during firefights on the XBox Live version of "Call of Duty." Many gamers also exchange hate speech over their headsets as they stalk each other across the virtual battlefields. Players trade racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic insults so frequently that game makers are taking steps to tone down the rhetoric. Xbox Live Xbox Live announcement at E3. The comments would shock parents who may not realize their children are constantly exposed to language that might make a sailor blush. Most parental concerns have focused on violence, not language. One gamer told an opponent he presumed to be Jewish that he wished Hitler had succeeded in his mission. Many exchanges involve talk of rape or exult over the atomic bombing of Japan. There are frequent slurs on homosexuals, Asians, Hispanics and women. Such comments can be heard on all online video gaming systems, including PlayStation Network, Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft) and others. "Personally, I don't do a lot of online gaming for that reason," said Flynn DeMarco, founder of the Web site GayGamer.net, which has worked with Microsoft and other companies on steps to clean up online gaming. "I don't play with anybody I don't already know." DeMarco said hate speech has been a problem for years. Game makers, despite some serious efforts, can only seek to limit the amount. "A lot of the problem lies within the players themselves," DeMarco said. The widespread use of the slurs is partly fueled by the same anonymity that provides cover for abuse throughout cyberspace. Players can compete with people thousands of miles away, and know them only by the fictional "gamertags" they use to identify themselves. After years of tolerating abusive players, gamers have become more diligent about noting the gametags of abusive players and reporting them to game companies. Abusive players can be punished or even banned, but the process is slow. "It's a baby steps kind of thing," DeMarco said. Microsoft, maker of the XBox 360, has taken numerous steps to clean up the language on its Live service, which is by far the biggest online gaming service with some has 23 million members. Stephen Toulouse, director of policy and enforcement for Microsoft's Xbox Live service, heads a team charged with providing a safe and enjoyable experience for customers. Modern Warfare 2 Modern Warfare 2 "There is always a subset of humanity that goes toward miscreant behavior," Toulouse said. With 1 million to 2 million players online at any one time, most of the policing falls to other users who report hate speech to the company, he said. Those complaints are reviewed, and people who use hate speech can face punishments such as having their voice privileges suspended, making them unable to speak with other players in real time. They can also be banned temporarily or even permanently from the service, Toulouse said. Players whose conduct crosses into criminal behavior are reported to law enforcement, he said. The company has created a Web site to help parents control their children's gaming, www.GetGameSmart.com. Parents can learn how to limit the people their children play with, limit the time and type of games they play and find other tools, he said. Gamers always have the power to mute out any other player they find offensive, or can block an offensive player and not encounter him again, Toulouse said. But the notion of companies monitoring and cleaning up cyberspace is troubling to some. Joan Bertin, director of the National Coalition Against Censorship in New York City, said she is uncomfortable with game makers serving as "nannies." "They respond occasionally and erratically and incompletely," she said. "Some people who are doing what everyone else is doing get caught." The coalition, which works to protect First Amendment rights, does not generally endorse actions to limit speech, she said. "The use of taboo language has a lot of different functions and they not all are evil," she said. "I don't think pulling the cover over it and hiding it makes it go away." Gamers themselves are also somewhat split on the issue. When Xbox Live banned the use of gamertags or profile information that revealed sexual orientation, in an effort to reduce taunting, some gays and lesbians were upset because they wanted to use such IDs, DeMarco said. A simple solution would be having gamers use their real names, but that presents a host of problems involving privacy and the protection of children from predators. Xbox Live Avatars Not all online gaming is bad. "I don't want everybody out there knowing my name and looking me up on the Internet or Facebook," DeMarco said. Plus the fake names can be fun, DeMarco said, although they can also be offensive, making plays on ethnic slurs. Still, Toulouse said the use of real names is being studied as one possible solution. DeMarco said the best solution may just be continuing to educate people, especially parents of young gamers, about the problem. "I'd like to see parents being aware of what their kids being exposed to," he said.
  2. Not booming enough. :-\ Wow look at how many are sequels.!! There are a few i definitely want to see, & Prane is RockaRolla making a sequel.? Marine, did you really list Smurfs as a great movie coming out..? (or was "coming out" meant in a different way.?) Its supposed to be a trilogy.
  3. I'm with Lash but Meaux had me on the floor with his nicknames. Especially Geovany "Cheech Marin" Soto.
  4. Because the Bears have something called respect. We don't need Santonio and all his baggage. I can't believe the Steelers traded him for a 5th. Thought they could have got more. For a team with so much called "respect" they sure didn't mind trading for a whiny, over the top and might I add unproven QB in Jay Cuttler. How exactly is Jay Cutler unproven? In 4 seasons he has never missed a start. He has thrown for over 12,000 yards, has a lifetime completion average over 60%, and is 18 tds over interceptions. He struggled last year because of the worst offensive line in the league and inexperienced receivers. As for his "whining". That whole situation was caused by Josh McDaniels. I don't blame Cutler and even so has he ever broken any laws or rules? I don't think so. He has been a class act in Chicago.
  5. He has just been suspended 4 games for violating league drug policies. I don't want anyone like that on my team.
  6. Because the Bears have something called respect. We don't need Santonio and all his baggage. I can't believe the Steelers traded him for a 5th. Thought they could have got more.

  8. This is insane!!! So many members of importance in Poland just died. How terribly ironic they were on their way to a ceremony where a massacre of Polish officers at the hands of Russian secret police took place many years ago. After reading the "cause" of the accident I have to suspect foul play by Russia. Russia is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and Putin is a snake in the grass. The fact that a top Polish pilot decided to land in a thick fog when he didn't have to surprises me. Also it is very convenient that Putin is jumping on the investigation.
  9. SMOLENSK, Russia – Polish President Lech Kaczynski and some of the country's highest military and civilian leaders died on Saturday when the presidential plane crashed as it came in for a landing in thick fog in western Russia, killing 97, officials said. Russian and Polish officials said there were no survivors on the 26-year-old Tupolev, which was taking the president, his wife and staff to events marking the 70th anniversary of the massacre in Katyn forest of thousands of Polish officers by Soviet secret police. The crash devastated the upper echelons of Poland's political and military establishments. On board were the army chief of staff, the navy chief commander, and heads of the air and land forces. Also killed were the national bank president, deputy foreign minister, army chaplain, head of the National Security Office, deputy parliament speaker, Olympic Committee head, civil rights commissioner and at least two presidential aides and three lawmakers, the Polish foreign ministry said. Although initial signs pointed to an accident with no indication of foul play, the death of a Polish president and much of the Polish state and defense establishment in Russia en route to commemorating one of the saddest events in Poland's long, complicated history with Russia, was laden with tragic irony. Reflecting the grave sensibilities of the crash to relations between the two countries, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin personally assumed charge of the investigation. He landed in Smolensk Saturday with an entourage of Russian officials to meet Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who was flying in from Warsaw. The president's twin brother, former Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kacynski, also flew there in a chartered plane, according to his party. "This is unbelievable — this tragic, cursed Katyn," Kaczynski's predecessor, Aleksander Kwasniewski, said on TVN24 television. It is "a cursed place, horrible symbolism," he said. "It's hard to believe. You get chills down your spine." Andrei Yevseyenkov, spokesman for the Smolensk regional government, said Russian dispatchers asked the crew to divert from the military airport in North Smolensk and land instead in Minsk, the capital of neighboring Belarus, or in Moscow because of the fog. While traffic controllers generally have the final word in whether it is safe for a plane to land, they can and do leave it to the pilots' discretion. Air Force Gen. Alexander Alyoshin confirmed that the pilot disregarded instructions to fly to another airfield. "But they continued landing, and it ended, unfortunately, with a tragedy," the Interfax news agency quoted Alyoshin as saying. He added that the pilot makes the final decision about whether to land. Russia's Emergency Minister Sergei Shoigu said there were 97 dead. His ministry said 88 of whom were part of the Polish state delegation. Poland's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Piotr Paszkowski, said there were 89 people on the passenger list but one person had not shown up for the roughly 1 1/2-hour flight from Warsaw's main airport. Some of the people on board were relatives of those slain in the Katyn massacre. Also among the victims was Anna Walentynowicz, whose firing in August 1980 from the Lenin Shipyards in Gdansk sparked a workers' strike that spurred the eventual creation of the Solidarity freedom movement. She went on to be a prominent member. "This is a great tragedy, a great shock to us all," former president and Solidarity leader Lech Walesa said. The deaths were not expected to directly affect the functioning of Polish government: Poland's president is commander in chief of its armed forces but the position's domestic duties are chiefly symbolic. Most top government ministers were not aboard the plane. Shoigu said investigators had recovered the plane's flight data recorders and were examining them. According to the Aviation Safety Network, there have been 66 crashes involving Tu-154s in the past four decades, including six in the past five years. The Russian carrier Aeroflot recently withdrew its Tu-154 fleet from service, largely because the planes do not meet international noise restrictions and use too much fuel. The aircraft was the workhorse of East Bloc civil aviation in the 1970s and 1980s, and many of the crashes have been attributed to the chaos that ensued after the breakup of the Soviet Unio Poland has long discussed replacing the planes that carry the country's leaders but said they lacked the funds. The presidential plane was fully overhauled in December, the general director of the Aviakor aviation maintenance plant in Samara, Russia told Rossiya-24. The plant repaired the plane's three engines, retrofitted electronic and navigation equipment and updated the interior, Alexei Gusev said. He said there could be no doubts that the plane was flightworthy. The plane tilted to the left before crashing, eyewitness Slawomir Sliwinski told state news channel Rossiya-24. He said there were two loud explosions when the aircraft hit the ground. Rossiya-24 showed footage from the crash site, with pieces of the plane scattered widely amid leafless trees and small fires burning in woods shrouded with fog. A tail fin with the red and white national colors of Poland stuck up from the debris. Polish-Russian relations had been improving of late after being poisoned for decades over the Katyn massacre of some 22,000 Polish officers. Russia never has formally apologized for the murders but Putin's decision to attend a memorial ceremony earlier this week in the forest near Katyn was seen as a gesture of goodwill toward reconciliation. Kaczynski wasn't invited to that event. Putin, as prime minister, had invited his Polish counterpart, Tusk. Putin and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev both called Tusk to express their condolences and they promised to work closely with Poland in investigating the crash. Tusk said they had been the first to offer condolences. "On this difficult day the people of Russia stand with the Polish people," Medvedev said, according to the Kremlin press service. Putin told Tusk that he would keep him fully briefed on the investigation, his spokesman said. Rossiya-24 showed hundreds of people around the Katyn monument, many holding Polish flags, some weeping. Poland's parliament speaker, the acting president, declared a week of national mourning. Tusk called for two minutes of silence at noon (1000GMT) Sunday. "The contemporary world has not seen such a tragedy," he said. In Warsaw, Tusk also called an extraordinary meeting of his Cabinet and the national flag was lowered to half-staff at the presidential palace, where several thousand people gathered to lay flowers and light candles. Black ribbons appeared in some windows in the capital. Kaczynski, 60, was the twin brother of Poland's opposition leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Kaczynski's wife, Maria, was an economist. They had a daughter, Marta, and two granddaughters. Lech Kaczynski became president in December 2005 after defeating Tusk in that year's presidential vote. The nationalist conservative had said he would seek a second term in presidential elections this fall. He was expected to face an uphill struggle against Parliament speaker Bronislaw Komorowski, the candidate of Tusk's governing Civic Platform party. The constitution says the parliament speaker announce early elections within 14 days of the president's death. The vote must be held within another 60 days. Poland, a nation of 38 million people, is by far the largest of the 10 formerly communist countries that have joined the European Union in recent years. Last year, Poland was the only EU nation to avoid recession and posted economic growth of 1.7 percent. It has become a firm U.S. ally in the region since the fall of communism — a stance that crosses party lines. The country sent troops to the U.S.-led war in Iraq and recently boosted its contingent in Afghanistan to some 2,600 soldiers. U.S. Patriot missiles are expected to be deployed in Poland this year. That was a Polish condition for a 2008 deal — backed by both Kaczynski and Tusk — to host long-range missile defense interceptors. The deal, which was struck by the Bush administration, angered Russia and was later reconfigured under President Barack Obama's administration. Under the Obama plan, Poland would host a different type of missile defense interceptors as part of a more mobile system and at a later date, probably not until 2018. Kaczynski is the first serving Polish leader to die since exiled World War II-era leader Gen. Wladyslaw Sikorski in a plane crash off Gibraltar in 1943. In the village of Gorzno, in northern Poland, the streets were largely empty as people stayed home to watch television. "It is very symbolic that they were flying to pay homage to so many murdered Poles," said resident Waleria Gess, 73. "I worry because so many clever and decent people were killed," said high school student Pawel Kwas, 17. "I am afraid we may have problems in the future to find equally talented politicians."
  10. I think the Vikings taking Mays depends on who is on the board when they pick. I think they look to grab a DT like Cody to fill in for Pat White when he retires in the next 2 years. I would love to see the Bears move up, but not at the cost of losing Greg Olsen. Arrelious Benn was originally predicted as a 1st round pick right after the season ended. But with all the crap hype on some guys he has fallen to the early-mid 2nd.
  11. The first one was awesome on ps2. If this one even resembles the first one it will be worth it.
  12. I would also love if the Bears moved up and picked Berry. There is no way in hell that will happen but it would be awesome. A more realistic move I would love to see is the Bears slide into the 2nd round and grab Arrelious Benn from Illinois. Kid is a monster.
  13. That is a hell of a deal Tool!! I'm considering it. My old ps3 won't play regualr dvds anymore. Only blue-ray and games. So I can't use my instant netflix right now. No Spartacus!! :'(
  14. I really don't see them going after Berry Lash. I think it would be an awesome pick but I think they will go Offensive tackle. Right now it looks like Berry is going to Cleveland.
  15. I have to agree with Path here. Every review I've seen points to garbage. While I don't put too much weight in reviews usually, this one has had almost entirely bad ones so it made me think twice.
  16. UP YOURS im an eagles fan :P :P :P Well all you Eagles fans are confusing the shit out of me. Why would you want a guy gone who has led your team to 6 NFC championship games in 11 seasons? This guy also holds every Eagles passing record. He also lead the Eagles to their first NFC championship game in 20 years. He has always been a class act guy and positive influence in the locker room. But you would rather have a guy who has played in less than ten games and has shown nothing against a quality opponent. 885 career passing yards and 4tds to 7 ints. Please enlighten me.
  17. I saw his press conference today and I noticed a few things. One being Mike Shanahan is awesome and brought up some very good points. Also Donovan looked very hurt still and angry with the Eagles organization. I fully expect him to destroy the Eagles this year. If he throws for anything less than 300 yards and 2 tds in each game I will be shocked.
  18. AL Central: 1. White Sox 2. Twins 3. Tigers 4. Royals 5. Indians AL East: 1. Yankees 2. Red Sox** 3. Rays 4. Orioles 5. Blue Jays AL West: 1. Angels 2. Mariners 3. Rangers 4. A's AL MVP: Joe Mauer- The reincarnation of Lou Gehrig finally learned how to consistently hit for power last season. I look for near perfection this season. AL Cy Young: I agree with Lash on Felix Hernandez. I smell a sophomore slump for Greinke due to his poor surroundings. AL Rookie of the Year: NA AL Manager of the Year: Ozzie Guillen- I'm taking Ozzie in a huge upset pick over Waka, with a strong pitching rotation and deep bullpen I like the Sox to turn the ship around this season. AL Comeback player of the year: Carlos Quentin- If the poor bastard can stay healthy I like him to have a spectacular season. With depth in the outfield this year Quentin will have some extra motivation to earn a starting role. --------------------------------------- NL Central: 1. Cardinals 2. Brewers 3. Reds 4. Cubs 5. Astros 6. Pirates NL East: 1. Phillies 2. Braves 3. Mets 4. Marlins 5. Nationals NL West: 1. Dodgers 2. Rockies** 3. Giants 4. D-Backs 5. Padres NL MVP: Albert Pujols- Nobody can touch the machine. Period. NL Cy Young: Tim Lincecum- I don't see any reason why he shouldn't have yet another freakish year. NL Rookie of the Year: Jason Heyward- He has the most potential of any rookie I've seen in a few years. He has some of the nastiest power out there and he can hit for contact too. Did I mention he is only 20? He will lead the Braves for years to come and close to a playoff spot this year. NL Manager of the Year: Tony Larussa- With the pitching rotation set and Holliday locked up I am looking for the Cards to challenge the Phillies for NL dominance. NL Comeback player of the year: Lance Berkman- Berkman had a rough go last year. The big puma didn't have the stuff last season. I am looking for him to regain his former glory and lead the Stros late in the season in a wildcard push. Lash you are insane to have the Cubs that high. They are sadly going to have a terrible season. I am liking the Reds future right now. With the rookie dominican, Cueto, and Volquez I think their rotation will be dangerous in a few years.
  19. I'm making a bold prediction right now that Washington will win the division this year!! Washington has a solid defense and now should have an awesome offense as well. I'm looking for them to draft either Eric Berry the safety/corner machine, or Trent Williams to protect McNabb. I also expect a receiver with their next pick. The Eagles messed up big time with this one. They are trading their starter of over 10 years to a divisional opponent. That Redskin defense will be salivating with his knowledge. Also with Mike Shanahan at the helm and 3 former pro-bowl running backs I like their chances to at least make the playoffs this year. I think they are still a big time receiver away from a deep run but Washington is close.
  20. What about the Real Rock n Rollah? How long must we wait? Damn you Guy Ritchie damn you!! :'(
  21. Greatest statement ever made!!! +1 forever!!!!
  22. So far 10 episodes have aired, the plan looks like there will be more seasons. There are 13 episodes in season 1. Episode 10 is not the finale Tool but I bet you will come close to tears at the end of the episode.
  23. I liked the show at first but I am starting to become disheartened. Maybe I am the only one here who looks for a quality plot beyond all the gratuitous sex & violence. I've seen every episode so far and the show is moving way too fast. I won't go into specifics for those who haven't watched this show yet, but this show is going to burn out quick. I think Starz is trying to play catch up to HBO and Showtime in a matter of weeks.
  24. My curiosity is getting the better of me. Somebody with photoshop skills figure this one out!!!
