  1. http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-04-scientists-stable-self-renewing-neural-stem.html VERY cool! Science is going to get very exciting in the upcoming decades.
  2. They said the CC info was encrypted using 128-bit encryption, which according to that video I posted is what banks use with their CC information. From what I understand, 128-bit encryption is next to impossible to crack. By the time they did crack it, the CC#s would have expired. The other information was not (address, name, secret question, pass). As for the PR, not sure what the best thing to do in that situation is.
  3. Does anyone have any idea how the cross-game chat system will work when Sony implements it? Perhaps CRs could talk to each other before a war using that?
  4. I think you make a good point here. Being that this is something ANY gaming website wants to keep out of its leagues and clans makes something such as Skype difficult to utilize. However it is clear that we need some sort of communication prior to the start of these matches to cause less headache in the end and make the matches go more smoothly. We can only hope that Zipper will include a pregame lobby system like we have seen in the past in upcoming patches, but we should not hold our breath. At this point you have to have the mindset that it will never be there. Skype is an option, whether good or bad. But so was sending the opposing CR a list of the players playing in a PSN message. Apparently neither of those are attractive options according to the responses provided. The bottom line is this. Everyone is going to have to adjust until (if we ever get it) Zippers installs pregame lobbies. Being a CR is no easy meat, they will likely bear even more responsibility during this but that is their job. Whether it is spelling out the names correctly or keeping their teams cool if there is an issue during the war, everyone is going to have to give up a little. In no way am I condoning the use of Skype or any other means of outside communication during a war. Not only is that cheating, people who use it are pathetic and don't belong here. However, it is clear that there needs to be some form of communication between CRs so both sides are happy and ready to play. Perhaps sharing phone #s is a more attractive option for this. Or having each team post a overall war thread with rosters of players playing (before war starts) then results and any conflicts that arose (after war completes). Or the UF flash chat that was used for war meetings during UFIC. There are many attractive options, and many more than any one person can think of. However, just discounting ideas provided based on small petty issues is not going to resolve this problem. We need the collective effort of everyone here to analyze each option provided and perhaps come up with creative methods, variation, or new ideas that will make everyone happy. A think tank is for ideas, even if they are good or bad; not opinions. Let's try keeping this thread on this track, so we can get the most out it, from this post forward.

  6. Here's a thought. Why not assign a number to each player on your roster, then when you submit who will be participating in the war you just listing for example: 1, 4, 7, 8, 10, 22, 29, 32 This solves the "typo" issue at least.
  7. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/clarifying-a-few-psn-points/ Very interesting.
  8. Be sure to click "indefinitely" on that article, it just takes you to one of PSN's press statements that does not in any way indicate that it is out forever. Just another writer misreporting.
  9. Yes, but remember that you shouldn't be able to have custom firmware on your PS3. As far as I understand, custom firmware of any kind should brick your PS3...
  10. I was thinking, if it was a server attack wouldn't people have reported more issues logging in or staying logged in? The night the servers went out on me, I recall my friends reporting that they couldn't connect to PSN. Then about an hour later I get a message on Socom that I have been "disconnected from the game universe" then the PSN message pops up saying "you have been signed out of PSN". It was almost like they just pulled the plug.
  11. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/299243/news/playstation-network-taken-down-to-halt-piracy/ Not sure what to believe anymore... this would make sense though given the recent firmware hacks.
  12. I am posting this to answer a few question I have received. I shut down AieL once we were done with UFIC. I allowed the guys to shoot with NNN without me for a while so they could get a feel for life in NNN and under their leadership. After about 3 weeks I checked in with everyone. Basically the Socom guys indicated to me that it wasn't going to work out for them and the COD guys decided that they did not want to play Socom. As a result, there are COD only guys who did remain with NNN. I believe a total of 4 AieL players who played in UFIC as AieL are playing Socom in Limited Edition. As I explained in my posts in the CR section, the reason for the merge is because I will be unable to lead due to school/life obligations; I hope to be able to play some as a member of Limited Edition.
  13. Probably because there are so many angles that they have to cover. Like someone said earlier on this thread, if someone wants to get in, they will find it. Would you rather them rush the update and have it get hacked again? or wait a few more days and have it work for longer or even indefinitely... They know they are going to get attacked again, so why not prevent that now. This is just speculation on my part. I would hope that is why they are taking their time.
  14. ... and your going to play Halo right...? LMAO! No need to overreact.
  15. That definitely is one thing we all have to remember during this. Honestly, I think Sony should take their time repairing this. This group that is attacking them will make the push again in the future. I would hope that they are looking at not only securing the vulnerability that they used during this instance but also others so this does not happen again or if it does, they can stop it quickly.
  16. I take it you haven't been spawn sniped yet? Nothing more infuriating than spawning late then dying instantly. I think a round countdown timer should be added to beginning of each round to solve this problem. I would like to see the faster fire rate and extended mags on the sub machine guns be actual attachments. You should have to chose between a Silencer, Fire Rate, or Extended Mag.
  17. I won it. The leaderboards said I was ranked #1... I bet everyone is though...
  18. The high zoom scope is awesome. I had it for two snipers in the beta.
  19. Going to start this thread amidst all of the other ones. So what do you like about Socom 4? I enjoy the Maps. Sacrifice and Von Hein Express, even though that they are two different maps in terms of size are both capable maps for both 32 and 16 players which is impressive to me. I love how fast each map loads. Unlike Confrontation where you wait for what seems like 10 minutes, you can play the first round of a classic before the first round on Confrontation even starts! I like how each gun has a place. Even the shotguns don't get overshadowed by Subs! Overall the game has something for everyone. Everything from Campers to Rushers, even between, there is something for you. The CLAN CHALLENGE! Best thing ever.
  20. Sounds like lag. That happened quite a bit during the beta when they were stress testing the servers.
  21. Meh... just give me a gun, bullets, and things to shoot!

  23. Yes. All of my friends can't get on either...
  24. http://www.spruz.com and http://www.enjin.com seem to be good sites as well. I used Spruz last summer. Has many great features, but we were using up all of our data transfer. UF offers hosting as well.
