  1. I've found tt usually depends upon how you define "clan". Most people who play in a public lobby either just run a clan tag (because they can) or they just play public lobbies with a group. Like I said, ask anyways. Tell them that you play in tournaments, that usually gets people excited to join. There really aren't that many "clans" like you see here at UF just wandering around in pubs. You will get many people who say no, but if you are diligent, you will find people.
  2. Britt, hey just want to offer up a few recruiting tips for you guys so you can make the upcoming tournament. -When you play in a public lobby, be on the lookout for people. If you think they might not be interested, ask anyway. -Go to some websites on the internet that have large communities. Mostly everybody here at UF is already in a clan. I recommend going to the game's forums http://www.callofduty.com/board , places like http://www.hupitgaming.com , and others. You will have great success at places like that. Just make sure you come across as a nice and intelligent person whether you are talking to them ingame or on the internet! Good luck!
  3. Yeah, that was what I thought I read...
  4. Are the other players in your party's NAT OPEN?
  5. It was my understanding from what I've read/heard the MW3 will be developed by Sledgehammer and IW (SP) then Raven Software will be doing the MP (the have played a role in all of the MP side of CODs since MW1) Make sure that your NAT is set to OPEN. This will solve most of your connect/disconnect and party issues. I've also found that when someone is missing when you "back out with party" it is best to just restart the party. So when I host, pretty much evertime we loose eachother I restart the party.

  7. What game does your clan play?

  9. All the more reason to play this game at places like UF!
  10. Thanks for having me on, Commander! Had a great time
  11. I highly recommend using what my clan recently switched to: Wordpress + Buddypress Plugin . Hopefully everyone can protect themselves. Be sure to do backups often!
  12. First solid day of Socom. Slowly picking up the tricks of the trade. Gettin' tha close range "dance" down pretty good. I'm not yet confident in any situation but have had most success picking people off at mid range, or making a quick flank. Still getting slammed at the start of rounds by the grenade tosses and sniper lines of sight. I really dig the maps on this game. Other than the few areas where there is only one entrance, the overall layout is pretty cool. I also noticed that all of the guns have a role. The snipers aren't getting destroyed on long shots by assault rilfes (like in COD), and the subs and shottys fit nicely for close range (other than that ridiculous shotgun). Pretty happy with where I am starting with this... only one way to go, UP!
  13. Happy New Year!
  14. Good news, I have both Socom 1 and 2. Will have to check out 3 once I finish the first two. The funny thing is there is no way in hell I would have tried other games 6 months ago... MW2 must have broke my mind... First MOH, now Socom and Killzone... I got BFBC2 as well... Anywho, I played a few unranked respawn matches the other day. Did fairly well considering it was my first online 3rd person game. Then jumped in a ranked match, using the M4 and M16. Unfortunately, there were only a few guys in the lobby so it was really hard to find people! I think I played Control, or whatever it is called (similar to COD's Domination). I can see where team strategy comes to play in this game. Especially given that all modes are basically akin to COD's SnD. All of that in-game clan stuff is pretty sweet too.
  15. @Red: lol What is SOCOM more similar to on COD... Core or Hardcore? In terms of things like: pace, how many bullets it takes to drop someone, etc?
  16. Thanks guys! Will definitely take you up on that offer, probably will need all the help I can get!
  17. My brother and I got each other some used games (since we have all the new releases already). We did a deal where you would buy each other the same amount of money... we made a stop at the game stop, I got him Heavy Rain and he got me Assassin's Creed 2 (just finished the first one, he wanted to play the second one as well) and SOCOM Confrontation for like $10. I guess after watching me play the first one a few weeks ago, he wanted me to take it to the MP (probably to see me get my ass kicked!). Anywho, was just wondering if you guys have any tips for a avid COD player trying out SOCOM for the first time?
  18. I might have to try that. Thanks Jax.

  20. How quickly people forget... Every game that I have bought for the PS3 on release has had problems with it until a few months after release. You have to give it time. IW for MW2 simply refused to patch the javelin glitch and the care package glitch for a good solid month yet they are the golden child? Just before MW2 came out, IW refused to patch MW for PS3 which had players flying around the map and rampant use of turbo controllers. Despite public outcry, IW refused to adjust One Man Army. What has happened since this game's release? What hasn't happened is what is key. Treyarch has been busy fixing so many things with this game that you will never even know about because they are fixing them before they spread. Go check the patch logs... soft spots in maps especially. They have been on top of things. Now it is apparent that there are issues with matchmaking and connections with this game. I would say don't really judge a game it, as Crusty said, until a good 6 months after its release. By then, they will have done everything they can do. If the game doesn't run flawless by 6 months, then we can start talking about their failures. All of these problems could be relieved if they did do a public beta... but money talks. Probably is much cheaper and makes them more money in the end as they don't have the overhead of running a beta and the game is likely to sell more if people don't have any preconceived notions the game based upon a beta. That is just the price we have to pay in these times...
  21. Hmmm. Well that is about all you can do to make it work better, that you can control. Everything else is either related to the game, their servers, ping, poor matchmaking... etc. Hopefully they can tweak it so it works better. Seems like all of the CODs take a few months before the connections shape up.
  22. lol... There are many who don't care much for him either.
  23. Are you NAT Open out of the box (no modifications to router settings?) or have you set up a DMZ for your PS3? I played about two hours tonight and had zero problems. Party stayed together (back out with party feature actually works now), only one host migration (rage quit), and great connections for the most part.
