  2. So here we are, just a few weeks away from the debut of season two. And many of you have been asking: how are you feeling about everything? What have you learned from making the first season of Powers? All good questions. Well, let’s see… 1.) Nothing Beats a Second WindThe only thing better than scoring a TV show in the first place is getting the privilege of a second season. No joke! This might sound silly, but as hard as it is to create and launch a show, it’s actually a far bigger win to get a big enough response to warrant the folks in charge saying, “Okay, let’s make more.†Thank you, everyone, for getting behind us. 2.) Know Your PowerSo what makes Powers special, exactly, when it’s expressed as a TV series? Powers the comic book is a unique case. It’s not a superhero comic, but a police comic that has superheroes in it — that’s a huge difference. And it’s been our unique perspective and style that makes us stand out in a crowded market full of really interesting comics of all kinds. TV has experienced a similar genre shift over the last decade. Network, cable, and streaming services are becoming packed with as much cool superhero and genre fare as the local comic book store shelves. As a show, Powers stands out because it’s the first original program available on PlayStation Network. But it’s also unique in its sensibilities and its style, and how it deconstructs the genres that we love so much. But more than anything else, we get to do things that you’d never see on other shows based on popular licensed characters. For example: part of episode two takes place at a powers-themed sex club. And you can look forward to some spectacular exploding heads throughout the season. Powers is a show for adults, by adults. And in season two we celebrate that fact. Big time. 3.) Know Your ActorsIn the world of TV production, you quickly learn that writers produce their best work when they know the actors. Like, really know them, inside and out. And because we hired a ton of amazing actors while gearing up for the first season, it’s going to change some of the dynamics you noticed in the first season. Attentive writers will notice if some of the actors gradually become close friends and might use that to inspire their on-screen dynamics. For example, the amazing Olesya Rulin (Calista) and Logan Browning (Zora) are totally buds in real life. They are fun to be around. They are fun to watch together. So although we ended last season with the two characters at odds, we certainly went into this season seeing if we could find a way to get them to be friends. I mentioned in the writer’s room how in those first days of summer camp, the person who was the meanest to you sometimes ends up being your best friend. I’m dying to see what Powers fans think as they watch the characters grow and evolve towards each other in the new season. 4.) Know Your LookPerhaps most important of all: putting more focus on the inspiration and talent of Powers co-creator Michael Avon Oeming. He is such a powerful cartoonist and storyteller. His style is so unique — it not only made our book stand out on newsstands, but it kept fans reading. When gearing up for season two, it was very clear that the TV show needed to find an equally powerful visual statement, one that channeled Oeming’s sensibilities but in its own unique way. Thanks to our costume designer, cinematographer, stunt coordinator, and production designer, we accomplished that goal this season. Kitty Doris-Bates, the production designer, made our sets look very real but at the same time look like they were pulled right out of our comic book. Shawna Trpcic, our costume designer, was able to re-create designs right out of the comic but at the same time make them function in a real way — all while giving the costumes a unified theory of design. Our stunt coordinator, Mike Massa, worked very hard to do as many practical stunts on camera as possible so we could really feel the fights and chases. Fans of the comic know that Oeming takes every opportunity to bring out the gore and guts — well, he has met his match, because our visual effects makeup artist, Andre Freitas, is as disturbed as he is. Wait until you see what this mad genius has cooked up on our show. We had a lot of fun blending the visual style of the show and the book back and forth. Below, take a look at this imagery my good friend Mr. Oeming whipped up for the show. Thanks for reading! As we prepare for our big May 31 debut, I’ll have plenty more to report in upcoming blog posts. I’m interested in shining a spotlight on some of the talented artists whose work left such an amazing stamp on the second season. It’s something I am very excited to share with you. I’ll be back here very soon to do just that. But, in the meantime, what else would you like to know? Let me know in the comments below! Finally, it’s worth reminding you that Powers Season 2 will debut exclusively on PlayStation Store on May 31 — free with your PlayStation Plus membership. You can access the latest episodes, trailers, character bios, and more at playstation.com/powers. See you soon! View the full article

  4. Auspicious tidings, intrepid wanderers! I’ve come to shed light on all things Shiren! In anticipation of the July 26 launch of Shiren The Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate on PS Vita, I’d like to take a brief stroll down memory lane as well as focus on some interesting features in the new game. Shiren and Koppa’s adventures have spanned many years and many games, with only a handful of them making it to U.S. shores. Of the U.S. entries, the very first adventure took place in the vibrant Kobami Valley and featured diabolic dungeons and enemies that put even the most seasoned wanderers on edge. The next U.S. game saw many changes to the Shiren framework, the most notable of which was the option to choose a vastly decreased difficulty level. Where does that leave us with the latest Shiren? Shiren The Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate keeps much of what worked and drops a lot of what didn’t while sporting a robust multiplayer mode. Link up with a friend and dive head first into dungeons and danger in co-op or versus mode. In co-op, two wanderers join forces to quest together and win by defeating a boss located on the last dungeon floor. Simple enough, right? The burden falls on both players, however, as one player falling in battle will end the adventure for both. In addition to multiplayer, secrets and goodies abound as you traverse retro pixelated environs! I have received this knowledge from on high! There is a certain Tanuki (Raccoon Dog) in Nekomaneki Village. Go to Hotel Nekomaneki and find Pokopon, who will eventually ask for passwords. These passwords are not found in the game, so you’ll have to stay tuned as we dole them out here and there. What do they do exactly? I’ll leave that for you to discover on your own. The first password is “Nonary Game.†What profound truths will you unlock? Keep your eyes peeled for the rest of the 32 remaining passwords and may the winds of Reeva blow good fortune your way! Until next time, noble wanderers! View the full article
  5. We’d like to introduce you to the latest Hero joining the Paragon roster. We call this Ranger… GRIM.exe. GRIM, the imp, controls his sentry combat robot who executes his every command. Get your first look at GRIM.exe below. You’ll be able to play GRIM.exe as part of our update on Tuesday, May 10. The TL;DR on GRIM.exe is that he uses his battle unit to attack at range. His pulse cannon features a passive with bonus damage every eight seconds. His other abilities allow GRIM.exe to shield himself, slow enemies, or knock them back. His Gyro Targeted Force Orb ultimate homes in on a target while passing through objects and non-Hero units. And if you want to execute your files off a physical disc, GRIM.exe is one of the five Hero Master Challenges included with the Paragon: Essentials Edition, which hits retailers on June 7. For those who pre-order the Essentials Edition, you’ll get an extra $10 of Paragon Coins upon pickup, which you can use to buy more Master Challenges, skins, and boosts. You can pre-order the Essentials Edition at GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon, Target, and Walmart right now. As always, all Heroes in Paragon are free, so if you’re in Early Access you’ll be able to jump in as GRIM.exe and battle responsibly on Tuesday. If you’re not in Early Access yet, you can pick up a Founder’s Pack to get into the action. See you on the battlefield! Good luck, have fun. View the full article
  6. Downwell will be making its way to PS4 and PS Vita on May 24! In Downwell, you descend into a deep well filled with monsters and traps, equipped with the Gunboots — a set of boots that let you shoot bullets from your feet. You’ll be using it to clear your way of enemies, or as a way to slow your descent using its recoil. On your way down you’ll find different guns, shops with helpful items, and upgrades like explosive balloons or a set of silverware to eat your foes with. The well is randomly generated, so no two trips down will ever be the same! Downwell started out as a small project that I, a college student at the time, worked on in my free time. It came about as one of many small prototypes (I was making one every week) as an exercise to improve my game design skills. Downwell was my 13th game-a-week project, and as it seemed like it had potential to be a decent game — I decided to work on it even after the week was done. As I continued development, it kind of blew up into something much bigger than I had ever imagined it being thanks to a number of people who saw potential in the game and decided to support it. It’s still pretty unreal to me that the game is now being released on PlayStation platforms, the consoles I’ve been playing for a large part of my life! My younger self would be super proud. I just want to thank Devolver Digital and PlayStation for the support they’ve given me from the start to now — the game could not have come this far without their generous support! Also huge thanks to Red Phantom Games for porting Downwell to PlayStation platforms! I’m amazed that they managed it — I’m sure it wasn’t easy to go through my terrible code. Downwell will launch on PS4 and PS Vita with cross-buy support for $4.99 on May 24th. I hope you like it! View the full article
  7. Hi there, PlayStation fans! We’re delighted to share an element of our game that means a lot to us. This time we want to tell you about the heritage of Shadow of the Beast and the ways we honor it. As fans of the original, we wanted to make sure that we did everything we could to give new players that same experience that inspired us. To that end we’ve implemented a full emulation of the original game as an unlockable bonus! So you get the entire original game playable on your PS4 included within the new Shadow of the Beast! It’s something of a notoriously difficult game, so we’ve added an infinite lives mode and some other helpful features that should give you a fighting chance of reaching the end — these can be disabled for anyone brave enough! We know music is incredibly important to the atmosphere of Shadow of the Beast. The incredibly talented Ian Livingstone has produced a fantastic dynamic soundtrack specifically to complement our take on this universe, with each level getting its own theme and the music escalating as the fighting increases in intensity. In his pursuit of finding the right sounds for the game, he has investigated many unique instruments to keep the haunting and alien sound that helps define this universe. Fans of the 1989 game’s music will notice lots of elements and themes familiar to them that are subtly woven into the compositions they hear. There are even more treats for fans of the original music as we’ve also included the original David Whittaker score as an unlockable in the game. And seeing many requests for one particular feature made us decide we had to include it: once you’ve earned enough Mana within the game, you can unlock the option to play with David’s amazing music as an alternative soundtrack! If all that isn’t amazing enough, the complete soundtrack will be available to download as a standalone purchase on PlayStation Store when the game is released. The amazing art of Roger Dean will undoubtedly have made a huge impact on anyone who had the famous long-box originals. Roger kindly provided us with a super hi-res scan of the original painting that was used for the box art. Play the game well enough and it can be unlocked to view and zoom in on so you can examine his incredible work in exquisite detail — an incredible chance for fans of the original cover and Roger’s work! As fans ourselves, it’s been a lot of fun adding all these little nods to the original game (and even a few other Psygnosis titles); some small, some not-so-small. We hope that anyone else with fond memories of that era will find something to reminisce about, and maybe even newer players will be driven to look up a bit of gaming history! We have still more to unveil, but if this has fuelled your interest then I’d like to remind you that if you pre-order the game you’ll receive a dynamic Theme featuring a creature designed by Roger specifically for our title. This was a dream come true for me to see and I hope it’s exciting for some of you, too! Thanks again for your interest, it’s always appreciated. Matt and the Heavy Spectrum Team View the full article
  8. Have you ever heard about Chinese wood knots? If you’re not familiar with them, I’m sure you know the Magic Cube. We all went crazy handling the Magic Cube, and it was our source of inspiration for making Knot, which is coming to PS4 this summer! Knot is a 3D mechanical puzzle game with realistic graphics that will fully immerse you into its world. Each puzzle is composed of blocks that are mechanically interlocked. Your mission is to find a way to solve it by moving and rotating the correct block in order to disassemble the puzzle. Some puzzles are easy while others are quite challenging. But don’t worry, we created the perfect atmosphere that will allow you to relax and complete your mission. You will need to be focused, because the more puzzles you solve, the harder it becomes to move a block. The puzzles are composed of multiple materials including wood, copper, and stone. Knot will allow you to feel the textures and how differently they interact. We hope that you will enjoy the brain teasers as much as we did designing them. Don’t hesitate to leave us a comment or question. We will be happy to answer as much as we can. View the full article
  9. Hello, Binding of Isaac fans! I’ve got some awesome news. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is just about ready to launch on PS4. In fact, it’s going to be out on May 10 for $10.99. If you haven’t heard, Afterbirth is the extremely extensive add-on for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth delivering 100+ hours of gameplay. Features include: A new final area and final boss for the main game. The new Greed Mode. Daily Runs to compete for high scores and best times. 1,000+ new room designs. A new playable character, Lilith, mother of demons. Eight new bosses. Four new alternate chapters with specific enemy types, visual themes, and surprises. 25 new enemies. 120 new items (bringing the total past 525). A massively updated weapon combo system. New alternate soundtrack. 10 totally new and awesome challenges. Tons of new secret transformations. Loads of new Trophies. But enough with the lists. Here are the awesome details on some of Afterbirth’s new content. Greed ModeGreed Mode is a totally new game mode. It mainly involves fighting off waves of randomly chosen sets of enemies that spawn around the room. These waves ramp up in difficulty and continue to stack on top of one another until you hit wave eight, press the stop button, or die. The more waves you string together without hitting the stop button, the higher the cash bonus. If you’re able to do it without taking damage there is another bonus in it for you. After wave eight you get a breather to cash in your winnings and the button mysteriously changes to a skull! Pressing said skull will start the “boss waves,†an easy wave (on par with a basic boss from that chapter) and a med wave (usually an easy-level boss with a small mob). You get a lot more time to kill these waves, but depending on how fast you are there is a high chance that the second boss will spawn in alongside the first. But you can always sacrifice half a heart to stop the next wave from spawning if things are looking dire. Once these boss waves are finished, the exit door will unbar and you will be able to progress to the next level… or you can take a chance with the “nightmare boss wave†in order to unlock the devil room door. A single room in greed mode is 100% new, cursed rooms yield totally new surprises, secret rooms have bigger payoffs, and the content of devil rooms aren’t exactly what you are used to. In fact, all the pools in Greed Mode are totally new and have been heavily modded to fit Greed Mode perfectly. All in all, Greed Mode will feel like a totally new experience that will not only yield tons of rewards for completing it with each character, but also feature a very unique ending that should have you coming back for more for quite a while. Daily RunsFor those of you who have used “seeds†in Rebirth, the short answer is Daily Runs are daily seeds that are universal to everyone playing that day. Every day, Afterbirth will generate a new “run†for everyone who owns the game to play. But what makes Daily Run different than seeds is that Daily Runs will be identical for everyone in every way. It doesn’t matter what you have or haven’t unlocked, Daily Runs don’t play by the rules! Everyone is on an equal playing field here! If you wanna go for Mega Satan from the get-go, then go for it! Beyond all runs being universal, Daily Runs will choose a specific character for you to play as — and everyone is forced to play as him/her/them that day. This includes The Lost. But don’t worry, those will be rare days. That said, nothing can be acquired or unlocked in daily runs. Much like seeds, Daily Runs do not yield any progress rewards, so it’s best to play the main game more if you want game progress. The great part about Daily Runs is that we’ve linked Afterbirth with leaderboards dedicated to Daily Runs. So you can see how well you did in terms of score, time, or both! New EnemiesAfterbirth features loads of new enemies and bosses and even some alternates to existing ones. Little Horn, for example, is a new and much welcome “stubby†demon boss. Not only does this guy break the mold with his AI, but he also has more attacks than normal bosses. Easily one of the most fun boss fights thus far. Afterbirth will feature five new champions! Champions in Isaac are twice as large, do a full heart of damage, have twice the life, and usually drop something special when they die. New ItemsThere will be new cards, pills, runes, bombs, hearts, chests, and even a few new item types you will run into and/or unlock via one of the 10 new challenges. New Item: Diplopia! Diplopia is a new one-use item that does something pretty interesting: it doubles items and pickups. Not all items are ones you want two of, but I’m sure some of you can think of more than a few that would be nuts to have two of. The Friend Ball will insta-kill any non-boss enemy, trapping them inside the ball. Then you can release the trapped enemy, now charmed to fight alongside you for the duration of the room! Dead Eye is a fan-suggested item that raises damage with each consecutive hit and causes your tears to become red glowing balls of death if you play well. Alternate LevelsSome of the more interesting features of Afterbirth’s main game are the alternate chapters. As many of you know the game currently features alternate chapters for each existing level set (e.g. the basement’s counterpart is the cellar). Each alternate chapter has its own set of levels, themes, and enemies that are semi-exclusive to it. We wanted to add more stuff like this without muddying things up by actually making a full third alternate for each existing chapter set. In Afterbirth, each chapter set will feature a variant that will go over the top of whatever theme you are currently playing, so regardless of if you are in the cellar or basement, there is a small percentage chance that whatever level you are in will become a new Afterbirth alternate. Aside from how different this looks, The Burning Basement also features many different changes. There is a high percent chance that many different enemies will become “flaming alternates.†All new level alternates will feature modded stats and new attacks; there is a small percent chance that rocks will become fire pits. These seem like minor changes, but in a lot of ways these new levels will act as “champion†variations of levels, making things slightly harder but also raising the possibility of more reward. Each new alternate will also feature new music, visuals, and effects. And that’s all I’m telling you for now. Thanks for reading! View the full article

  14. Battleborn has lots of character. OK, if we’re being technical – it has 25 of them. And every single one plays differently from the others. Do you want to pilot a murderous mech? Fly like an eagle and plop down rockets on targets below? Maybe you want to be a sentient mushroom? Perhaps a vampire space samurai? Or a telekinetic swashbuckler? No matter your style, you got this. So, while we don’t have enough room to talk about every single playable hero in Battleborn here, let’s at least cover 12 of them. Battleborn | PlayStation.com Toby Toby may look like a loveable little penguin, but don’t call him “cute.†Ever. Turned away from Peacekeeper militia service because he looked so huggable, this engineering genius has a gigantic chip on his adorable little shoulder. Cheese Toby off and he will jump into his battle mech suit and murder the hell out of you with his rail gun and Arc Mines (and probably apologize while doing it). Fire up his defensive shields and Toby is a great teammate to help you hold the line. Kleese He summons black holes on the battlefield, he launches energy mortars and supercharges your shields – and he does all this without even getting out of his chair! The cantankerous Kleese ran Minion Robotics (for a few minutes) only to be replaced by an insane AI. Now, floating around on his custom-built Tactical Battle Chair, Kleese possesses the most deadly lounge furniture in the universe. He’s perfect for protecting your team and laying down some area-affecting heavy-fire in the process. El Dragón Who needs a plan when you have the might of El Dragón by your side? This former champ of the professional wrestling circuit sprints into the fight and presses the attack – with style! El Dragón is an up-close fighter with a variety of attacks that are just as deadly out of the ring. And when you hear his “El Dragóóóóóóóón†battle cry, run for high ground! Odds are, he’s raised his two massive robotic arms and is currently barreling your way, ready to clothesline your face. Shayne and Aurox The only thing worse than dealing with a snotty emo know-it-all teen that only cares about herself: One that has a hulking omnidimensional monster grafted to her torso. The resulting mass is a combination of Shayne’s speed and razor-edged boomerang with Aurox’s ridiculous destructive power up close in melee. Even worse, Aurox is able to cloak Shayne and come crashing down on unsuspecting victims. Actually, I take that back. Knowing that you’re getting taunted by some punk after you get laid out – that makes it way worse. Benedict It’s a toss-up about what’s more offensive: Benedict’s rocket arsenal and combat prowess…or his ego. The high-flying hawk-man sure thinks highly of himself – and before you get a chance to question it, he will drop a payload of rockets on your head. That’s saying nothing of the remote-controlled missile you can fire once you level up enough. If his firepower isn’t enough to give you pause, a couple flaps from this Aviant’s wings and he can fly out of harm’s way or soar above it and scout the battlefield. ISIC ISIC was the lead manufacturing Magnus A.I. at Minion Robotics, where he drove record profits and revolutionized production pipelines. After his mind fell to pieces, he joined a pro-wrestling circuit, tore a dude’s arms off (El Dragón – that’s a whole other story), and decided minutes later that the physical universe is nothing more than a simulation and must be destroyed. So, y’know, a Magnus of many interests. This walking, talking, psychotic tank is great for holding ground with his shields and protective wards. Then again, ISIC’s Charge Cannon and dash attacks are also great at pushing forward. Orendi Unhinged, unpredictable, and feared even by members of her own team, Orendi the chaos witch has incredible speed and the ability to inflict tons of damage in a hurry. She’ll unleash bursts of chaotic energy and raise entire towers of destructive force. And if she happens to hit the Varelsi in the process, that’s cool, too. Want to watch the universe burn with her? Of course you do. Galilea Once a proud Eldrid warrior, Galilea is being torn apart by the same dark energies that are keeping her alive. Heavily armored – and heavily armed with her Greatsword and Greatshield – she is a fearsome fighter that can quickly close the gap and decimate foes up close. She can disappear into the void and slip back out just as quickly to drain your lifeforce and chop you to bite-sized pieces at the same time. Miko There’s a fungus among the Battleborn! Miko, the sentient mushroom, is the last remaining bud of a planet-spanning fungal colony. This combat botanist is equally capable of fending off foes on the battlefield and keeping your team alive. So, pick your poison. Literally. You can become a walking biohazard and damage foes while flinging endless kunai blades or focus on healing spores that can bring your team back from the brink. Deande Rendain’s former Spymaster needs to stop the Jennerit Imperium from making a huge mistake: helping the Varelsi destroy the universe. To do that, she’s ready to join the Battleborn and use her assassin-honed strategic stealth to take down her former master. One of her favorite attacks is to drop a hologram to distract you as she cloaks to sneak up behind and stab you repeatedly with her War Fans. If you don’t like fair fights, pick Deande. Rath That red-bladed tornado on the battlefield? Oh, that’s just Verod Rath. He’s brutal, efficient and deeply devoted to the art of combat. Once an elite guard – a Keeper of the Blade – to the Jennerit Empire, he’s since devoted his three energy blades to slicing up the Varelsi at every opportunity. Unsurprisingly, he’s a brutal up-close melee fighter with his two laser katanas. He also assures us he’s not a vampire. He gets that a lot. Marquis Class. Sophistication. Insanity. Everything that you’d hope for in a high-society sociopath is yours on the battlefield! A courteous nod to Marquis as he unloads his sniper rifle cane – Bindlebane – on the enemies. A tip of the hat as he launches his clockwork owl to make short work of distant peasants. And don’t forget – haste makes waste! With his ability to lay down temporal disruption zones, Marquis can slow down incoming forces. Something to keep in mindThat’s less than half of the starting lineup! And we’ve already announced that we are starting work on five more playable Battleborn badasses that will be free when we’re done creating them! Now it’s your turn. With Battleborn out today, who are you gonna pick to stop the Varelsi and save the universe? View the full article
  15. We are thrilled to reveal that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is officially the next title from our studio, and we’ve got a ton of fresh info to share with you today. Infinite Warfare represents a departure for us in several ways. This will be Infinity Ward’s first Call of Duty to benefit from a full three-year development timeline. That means we’re bringing an ambitious approach and employing state-of-the-art design methods during our development. We’ll also have a little extra time for even more of the high-quality polish and refinement to make this game everything it can be. Infinite Warfare will redefine what players think of as the traditional narrative experience for the franchise. Human conflict under extreme pressure unpacks character personalities, character depth, and story in a manner that few games have explored. Our goal is to create the most gripping and immersive story ever told in a Call of Duty game. We’re doing that by thrusting players into wartime leadership against a relentless enemy, and making them truly feel the weight of command. Finally, Infinite Warfare will be the first game in the franchise to venture beyond the reaches of Earth, framing a plausible future war in our solar system. To be clear, we aren’t developing a science fiction or space battle game — Infinite Warfare is first and foremost a Call of Duty game, which means visceral boots-on-the-ground infantry combat as well as piloting combat vehicles. But, by expanding the scope of the action into the vastness of space, we are taking this experience to exciting and surprising places in many ways. Though we are putting a great deal of emphasis on the game’s engaging story, Infinite Warfare will of course continue to push boundaries for online multiplayer. Our maps will showcase never-before-seen environments depicted for the first time in franchise history. And, with fast, fun, and frenetic gameplay, our multiplayer will challenge players to achieve their goals in various, novel ways. Additionally, Infinite Warfare will introduce an original cooperative Zombies mode that takes players on a wild ride through a new storyline with unique gameplay features and mechanics. More details about multiplayer and the new zombies experience will be announced at a later date. For now, we’re excited to say that PS4 owners will get DLC Map Packs 30 days early. So plan your upcoming holiday season weekends carefully. One more thing — we’re delighted to confirm that we are working on the Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition, which includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered,* bringing the most critically acclaimed title in Call of Duty history to PS4 for the first time. Executive produced by Infinity Ward and developed closely with the amazing team at Raven, Modern Warfare Remastered will include the full, iconic story campaign, and the original multiplayer mode with ten of the biggest fan-favorite maps that redefined Call of Duty forever, fully remastered for PS4. Set your countdown and be ready for launch. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare blasts off worldwide November 4. Thank you reading up on and watching the latest. We’re excited to share more details about Infinite Warfare in the coming months. For the latest intel, check out the official site *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered contains only 10 MP maps from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game. Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download. Internet connection required. For more information, please head here. View the full article
  16. Hello, PlayStation.Blog! After releasing Draw Slasher in 2013 and Run Like Hell in 2014, we are back with our latest game — Corridor Z, which is coming to PS4 and PS Vita tomorrow! The action of Corridor Z takes place in an ordinary high school, where survivors have barricaded themselves in a classroom after the school has been quarantined by the military to prevent an undead outbreak from spreading. Through playing the game across two professionally-voiced parallel story lines, you will uncover the story behind the undead horror. Stylized gory graphics and detailed animations create an angsty backdrop while the vibrant sound effects enrich the auditory experience. Players need to “control†the pursuit while running toward the camera — wield guns, place obstacles, and destroy zombies as you fend off hordes of ferocious zombies and defeat powerful bosses. 17. Soft Body is an action-puzzle game where you control two beautiful, gooey snakes at the same time. In the game, you paint the world with your body, and as you do so, the world changes around you revealing new obstacles and challenges. The action is tense, but the mood is contemplative and calm. The game features 100 levels and four unique game modes. It’s a blend of quick-restart action games like Super Meat Boy and the mind-melting coordination of top-down shooters like Ikaruga. To celebrate the upcoming release, I’d like to share a few of the game’s unique level designs with you all. At the heart of each level design is the desire to feature the fluid movement and tight controls of the snakes. From the shape of bullet patterns, to the sound of painting walls, Soft Body’s levels encourage motion. Fast and slow, hectic or careful. I want people to take tons of small risks, to push their luck, and to search for new approaches to each of the level’s challenges. Way of Life: This fast-paced level features a number of obstacles and enemies to keep players on their toes. The Sniper turret locks onto the player, the Spinner turret unleashes a constant stream of projectiles, and the Electric Circles force the player to keep moving — if you activate a Circle, you have to move away before they fire. In Hard Game, a single-player controls both snakes (one with the left stick and one with the right stick), and if either snake is popped by a projectile, enemy, or obstacle, the level is failed and you have to restart from the beginning. It asks people to master the task of controlling two snakes at the same time. Quoting Ourselves: This Hard Game level is a bit tricky on the brain. The snakes need to work together to untangle the mess of mines. This is a good example of Hard Game’s mind-splitting weirdness. Inside Circles: This Hard Game level features two major obstacles: a large rotating line that keeps players moving and two circles that follow the Hot Pink Body as it moves around the level. The Blue Body is trapped within two circles and must avoid being popped by the rotating line or the circles. Only after the first layer is painted can the Blue Body move freely around the level. This is only a small sampling of the game’s distinctive level designs. You can check out full playthroughs of more levels at the official site. There’s almost no need for patience — Soft Body is due on May 17! View the full article
  18. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will hit store shelves on May 10. And while we’ve talked a lot about the single-player campaign, many multiplayer details have remained under wraps. That ends today, as we fill you in on what to expect as well as the philosophy behind some of the new directions we took with multiplayer. Right off the bat, we want to highlight that all future maps and modes will be included with Uncharted 4 at no additional cost, and all vanity and gameplay in-game store items will be unlockable through gameplay! This means that the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community won’t be fragmented by different types of DLC, and that those who are loyal in participating in the community will be rewarded. Our DLC release approach will represent an entirely new direction for Naughty Dog, and we are confident it will have a hugely positive impact and keep the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community thriving. It was a long process to determine how all this should work. We went back and forth with how we wanted players to experience this, and we created a few core philosophies. Fairness First: We strongly believe that players must be on an even playing field. To do this, we made Relics, a currency that can only be earned through gameplay and will be able to unlock all DLC, present and future. We will be putting future gameplay items ranging from Mysticals to Boosters into DLC Gameplay Chests. Each Chest will contain new gameplay items. An Evolving Experience: We intend to keep the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer experience as fresh as possible for as long as possible. Over time, Naughty Dog will release a variety of new maps, modes and gameplay items at no additional cost (including Co-op), that will introduce new rules and play styles. DLC Accessible to Everyone: It was our goal from the start to give players the ability to earn DLC items through gameplay. No DLC item is available exclusively using Uncharted Points. Unified Community: The idea of delivering our DLC this way was greatly influenced by the goal of having a unified community. Maps and modes will be available to everyone on the same day. This will ensure that all players are kept together and experience new content at the same time. We also feel that a unified community happens through engagement. Beyond our engagement with players through social media and our forums, we’ll soon introduce Cinema so that players can review matches and use a tool that will allow them to create custom Uncharted multiplayer footage. This has been a popular tool in previous Uncharted multiplayer games, and we are excited to make it available in the near future. How It All WorksWe considered a number of systems for our multiplayer DLC economy and have refined them to keep things as simple as possible. The core component revolves around acquiring Relics. You acquire Relics by either completing daily Challenges or winning matches, and you can spend them on DLC Chests. You will be able to pick between a DLC Vanity Chest or a DLC Gameplay Chest; when you open it, you’ll earn new items. Neither chest type will ever give you a duplicate item. Triple PackFor those of you who purchased the Triple Pack (also included in the Digital Deluxe Edition), you’ll gain future access to: The first-ever single-player story add-on for the Uncharted series Two multiplayer packs to enhance your multiplayer experience: MP Pack #1 – Long Gun – Booster – Skin – Hat – Taunt MP Pack #2 – Pistol – Booster – Mystical – Hat – Taunt RoadmapYou will see in our roadmap graphic below that we have full intention of supporting Uncharted 4 Multiplayer for some time, and want to be clear with those intentions. We are going to release quite a bit of content this year, including gameplay items, modes and maps. Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Modes at LaunchWe also want to showcase the modes that will be available at launch. We’ve brought back modes from previous Uncharted multiplayer games, while introducing new ideas to others. Any and all of the modes can be incredibly intense. Ranked: In Ranked Team Deathmatch, Ranks range from Bronze III to Diamond I. You’ll be awarded points for winning a match, and points will be deducted for losing. When you acquire the necessary number of points, you’ll enter into Qualifiers – which is where things get really interesting. At this point, a player is given the opportunity to increase his or her Rank by winning a certain number of the next few matches. Failing to do so will knock the player out of Qualifiers, and he or she must earn points again for another attempt. For example, if you are Rank Bronze I and earn enough points to enter Qualifiers, you must win three of your next five matches to reach Rank Silver III. Failing to win at least three of your next five matches will result in a failure in Qualifiers, and will force you to earn points to try again. It’s a system that we think the competitive among you will enjoy as much as we have in the office. Command: In this mode, you’ll capture Command Sites for a steady flow of points, or knock out enemy Captains for a large point bonus. Command emphasizes teamwork and a large part of that comes from protecting your Captain. There are a number of Command Sites across each map. When your team captures one, your team’s score will increase. Command Sites captured by the enemy team must be neutralized before you can capture them for your side. Command Sites are captured faster when more members of the team are inside them. Whichever player contributes the most points to the team’s objective is the Team Captain. The Captain will receive bonuses — cheaper In-Match Store Items, the ability to revive teammates faster, and more health when downed. When a Captain is designated, the Captain starts at Level 1, but as the Captain gains objective points without being KO’ed, the Captain goes up a Level to a max level of three, which increases the effectiveness of the Captain bonuses. However, at higher levels, the Captain is more visible to the enemy: Level 1: Enemies see a Captain icon by the Captain’s name Level 2: Enemies can always see the Captain on radar Level 3: Captains are automatically Marked until they lose Captain status Captain status is lost when the Captain is knocked out, which scores the enemy points depending on the level of the Captain. This mode can have some intense comebacks given the large point value a Captain can reach. Team Deathmatch: A fight to the end with teammates at your side. The goal is to score a certain number of points to win, with each enemy KO being worth one point. Plunder: In Plunder, grab the idol and return it to your treasure chest for one point. You can throw and climb with the Idol. Warm Up Playlist: We have made a lot of new gameplay mechanics available, and the Warm Up playlist gives players the opportunity to explore them. You will only be able to play in this playlist for a certain number of matches, to help you understand the multiplayer mechanics before joining the fight. Trials: Set up as pseudo competitive matches, players go up against enemy NPC opponents with the goal of getting a high score using specific multiplayer mechanics. Each of the 10 Trials will include different levels of difficulty and will award Relics for completion. Well, that was a lot to cover! I’m sure a number of you will have questions, please ask them below in the comments. We at Naughty Dog, and the MP team in particular, are really excited to finally share all this information with you. The direction we’re taking in Uncharted 4 Multiplayer is going to be a fast and fun ride – we hope you’ll join us! View the full article

  21. So as all of you hopefully know by now, the Ratchet & Clank movie hits theaters today. The game based on the movie (based on the game) launched on April 12 to rave reviews and has been our fastest selling Ratchet & Clank game to date. However, what you may not know is some of the behind-the-scenes stories on how the movie came to be. As someone who has worked on every single Ratchet & Clank game (from the original, to the reimagining, to the film itself), I’d like to share a bit with you. It started back in early 2013, the first test footage of what would become the Ratchet & Clank movie first began circulating the halls of Insomniac Games, eventually reaching myself and a number of others here at PlayStation. Even in its early form, it showed a tremendous amount of promise, and at that moment we all knew we might be sitting on something special. The test footage was created by Rainmaker Films who, along with Blockade Entertainment, were keen to try and turn Ratchet & Clank into a theatrical feature. This test footage was their proof of concept — and it definitely opened some eyes. The footage sparked conversation between Insomniac Games and me here at PlayStation about how cool it might be to have a game available when the movie came out. At the time we were finishing up the development of Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (an epilogue to the beloved Future trilogy of games), so it was a conversation with an eye to what we could do to have a game ready for the launch of the film. Fast forward to January 2014 and one completed scene of the film was done. It was a sequence that occurs about 5 minutes into the film, where Ratchet shows an elderly old man how he upgraded his space craft in ways only Ratchet could. As soon as we all saw this scene, the movie went from “This has a lot of potential†to “Oh, wow, we’re gonna pull this off!†It was at that point discussions on the game picked up in earnest. The film was returning to the beginning to tell Ratchet’s origin story, and we decided we would do the same on the game side. The film was going to introduce Ratchet to an all new audience and our goal for the game was to try to do the same by celebrating everything that made previous Ratchet & Clank games great. After a short discussion, we realized we had the perfect way to unify the stories: by having the game narrated by the ever truthful, never would lie about a thing, Captain Qwark! As the game and film continued to develop, it was great to see the collaboration between teams. Rainmaker would share early cuts of the film and a small group of people that included folks from Rainmaker, Insomniac Games, and myself would go over everything and suggest improvements. In fact, the room seen in this image is very similar to the room at Rainmaker where these meetings would happen. To close, even back when all we had was the initial footage of Ratchet & Clank running through an early version of the Metropolis level in the original PS2 game, we knew we had the making of something great. Ratchet & Clank was one of the first projects I worked on in product development, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Nearly 15 years later, we not only got to go back to that original experience and remake it for a new generation, but we also have the Ratchet & Clank theatrical film that brings these characters and world to film audiences everywhere. Thank you all who have been along for the ride for the past 15 years, and thank you to all who are discovering Ratchet & Clank for the first time! View the full article

  23. When we started talking about ideas for Hob, the biggest aspect that kept coming up was that the world itself needed to be center stage for both gameplay and story. The main goal was for it to be something unique and engaging, allowing the player to interact with the world in interesting ways. Those core goals are what drove the idea of a world disheveled like a Rubik’s cube; it’s not complete, and the player needs to help fix it. It was proposed that we not only build the world around the player being able to move and transform large areas, but also to make those transformations a major part of the narrative. What that narrative is, however, is a secret for the player to discover. After we had a grasp on the world, we then needed to build tools for the player to interact and fix the broken world. That’s when the utility glove was born. Early on in the game, the player acquires a glove that can be upgraded to be multi-functional. The glove has several multi-purpose tools, serving the player for navigation, puzzles, and combat. Once we decided what glove abilities we wanted, we shifted focus over to supporting it in the world space. We delved deeper into what that meant gameplay wise, development wise, and tech wise. It started to sound like a crazy man’s fever dreams. Speaking as a level designer, the amount of work to design and build a space that transforms — sometimes multiple times into different configurations — each of which need to be fun and support various gameplay, was crazy and terrifying. I kept thinking, “What are we getting ourselves into?†It was nuts. If we could pull it off though, it could be amazing. As we started building toward that vision, I began to see the big picture possibilities. That is when things really got exciting. This was still a crazy plan, but now we were committed to making something crazy and very special! I’ve always enjoyed games that encourage the player to explore and to venture off the main path and reward them for it. My rule when playing games is that if I know a certain direction is the main path, I instantly go explore elsewhere first in hopes of being rewarded for it; it’s extremely satisfying when you are. In Hob, we do not put you on the yellow brick road and lead you by the hand. In fact, we try to get you off that yellow brick road so you can find the non-obvious back door that’s half-hidden by overgrown weeds, leading you in a roundabout way to your goal. Then we take it a step further and allow you to unlock the front door from the inside, creating a shortcut back out. That type of rewarding exploration is our goal with Hob. Puzzles big and small are scattered across the world. The world is broken and the player has several tools to navigate and fix it. For instance, the player acquires an ability that allows him or her to use their glove as a grappling hook between points to get to areas he or she could not reach otherwise. The same ability lets the player grab and pull objects to and from points that they might not be able to reach. Another ability allows the player to punch through walls, creating shortcuts and breaking apart tall pillars to create shortcut ladders. Each interactable object has a telltale visual cue so that the player will learn them and be able to identify them elsewhere. The player will often reach areas before they have all the abilities needed to find everything, so previously explored areas will gain new surprises as the player acquires abilities later on. The most challenging aspect of building the levels has been the world shifting. Each space requires more thought and consideration. We have to plan around the powers the player will have for that area, the new ideas we are introducing, and the new abilities the player will have when they return to the area later in the game. Some spaces rearrange once to solve a particular problem. In other spaces, the player can toggle levels back and forth as part of a greater puzzle, with each variation offering something different. Imagine being able to run freely across a large land mass while it is in the middle of transforming. Those moments are a special, memorable part of Hob’s gameplay. Designing for Hob has been a great experience so far. In the beginning of the project, I thought we were crazy to be so ambitious with so many unique gameplay elements and compound level design. Looking at the game today, it is all falling into place. It is clear that Hob is something unique, and really, really fun. All of the hard work will be worth it. View the full article
  24. Although we’ve been quiet about Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for the past few months, our team at Eidos-Montréal has been hard at work on the game. We’re excited to be back in the spotlight today with our new 101 trailer, which will give you an overview of what you can expect from the game. Enjoy! So how does Deus Ex: Mankind Divided perfect the action-RPG formula? Here are 10 ways: Deus Ex is all about letting you play the way you want. Combat, stealth, hacking, and social approaches will always be at your disposal to tackle your objectives. Every choice you make in the game will have a consequence, and every decision you make will ultimately have an impact on the ending you witness. Adam Jensen will have a whole new set of augmentations, and it’ll be up to you to choose which ones to invest in to support your play style. Weapons are now customizable on the fly with different attachments and ammo types. Our team has taken a lot of care to craft meaningful side quests. No generic objectives and situations here — every one of our side quests will introduce you to different characters and their own stories, and involve moral choices. Dialogue choices are also an important social feature in the game, with one augmentation providing you with information on how to best handle certain conversations to reach your objective. Our hacking mini-game comes with a slew of new possibilities. We’re also introducing a remote hacking augmentation, which lets you manipulate certain devices on the fly. The game will take you to diverse locations around the world. So far, we’ve revealed Dubai, Prague, and a fictional ghetto called Golem City. Dense and rich environments are our motto. Layers are at the core of our music system, which will dynamically adapt to what you will be doing in the world — exploration, infiltration, combat, and so on. When you finish the game, you’ll be able to access the New Game Plus mode. In this mode, we’ll encourage you to make different choices and mix up your play style to experience what you might have missed the first time around. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches August 23 on PS4, with the Digital Standard and Deluxe editions available for pre-order right now on PlayStation Store. As an exclusive bonus, you’ll get access to a dynamic PS4 Theme featuring our game’s unique audio visual style. Which aspect of the game are you most excited about? View the full article
  25. You wake to find yourself trapped inside an experimental machine. A machine built to simulate memories. You have no idea how you got here… But to break the cycle, you must look into a past that you may not want to remember. Hi everyone. My name is Niles and I’m the creative director at Nilo Studios. We’re excited to announce Asemblance, a single-player, first-person psychological thriller for PS4. It’s the first episode of an expansive franchise inspired by The Twilight Zone, The X-Files, and the Black Mirror television series. These series show a unique ability to pull the viewer into a narrative that isn’t always logical and keeps you engaged by asking what is really true. We’ve also found inspiration in games that allow players to explore different theories and ultimately engage one another to learn the truth. We were inspired by this approach to create a narrative where you’re never quite sure what’s real or what’s not. We hope we’ve accomplished that in Asemblance. We’re just about done with development and are currently optimizing the game, polishing the audio design, and adding the final touches to the game’s multilayered narrative. Nilo was founded in Seattle, Washington, just last year, so we’re a relatively new studio. That said, the developers here have years of experience making games, writing books, and producing music here in the Seattle area. I was a designer at Bungie for almost ten years before founding Nilo. While I’m proud of the work I’ve done on bigger games like Destiny, it’s incredibly exciting to start something new where we can experiment more with narrative game design. Thanks for reading. We can’t wait to see what you think of Asemblance. Keep an eye out for more updates and feel free to post questions in the comments section below. View the full article
