Hi guys – Nerd HQ is a free four-day geek culture event held in downtown San Diego, California. We’re known for holding cool celebrity panels, exclusive gaming experiences, and nightly events. Did I mention that attendance is free? Well, it is. And you’re invited! This year, Nerd HQ is turning its sights on gaming and virtual reality in a big, big way. We’re teaming up with PS4 as our official console and VR sponsor. As a result, we’re proud to be offering some great games to play including the featured game of Nerd HQ, Star Wars Battlefront and PlayStation’s Project Morpheus. I had a chance to try out Project Morpheus at E3, and now Nerd HQ is your first, best chance to try it yourself. A variety of virtual reality experiences with Project Morpheus are available all four days of Nerd HQ. It’s going to be epic. We also are also exciting to be teaming up with IGN, who will be streaming all of our Conversations, interviews, and behind the scenes footage for 2015. Our panels are going to be reaching a tremendous audience that will continue to spread the message of Nerd HQ. Nerd HQ is stationed at The New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego, July 9-12. Check out www.thenerdmachine.com for details and download the Nerd HQ app for your phone or tablet. It’s a new month and a new look for PlayStation Now! We’ve completely redesigned the PS Now subscription app on PS4 to create a richer, more visual experience that makes it even easier for you to browse the catalog of 125+ games available. In the new app, you’ll see curated categories of games organized by theme, as well as more detailed game pages with descriptions, images, and videos. And in order to celebrate this milestone, we are also adding an extra sixth bonus game to our usual five new game monthly lineup: Resistance 3. To launch the newly revamped PS Now subscription application on PS4, simply click on the PS Now icon in the content launcher on the home menu of your PS4. As always, new members can register for a free 7 day trial via your compatible PlayStation console, on your enabled Sony Blu-ray player, Sony TV, or Samsung Smart TV, or right here on the web. Here are the new games for the month of July: Infamous Festival of Blood Vampires swarm New Marais, and revered superhero Cole MacGrath has been bitten. To save his soul and city, he has just one night to find and kill the head vampire. Featuring hours of new gameplay, themed environment settings and new characters/enemies, Festival of Blood explores the darker side of the Infamous universe. Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One What do you get when an evil mastermind’s plan to destroy his three biggest enemies goes horribly wrong? You get a massive — and wacky — space-bound adventure featuring an unlikely partnership of heroes and villain. Play alone or in co-op multiplayer as Ratchet, Clank, Qwark or Dr. Nefarious, each with their own unique skills and an arsenal of weaponry. Resistance 3 America is lost. 4 years after the end of Resistance 2, dishonorably discharged Sentinel Joseph Capelli is in hiding from the Chimeran Menace with other survivors, including his new wife and young son. But when Dr. Fyodor Malikov arrives with the opportunity to deliver a blow to the occupying Chimeran force, Capelli must leave his family and journey the harrowing road from Oklahoma to New York City. Along the way, he’ll encounter the remnants of humanity left in the aftermath of the brutal Chimeran invasion. Sound Shapes Equal parts instrument and game, Sound Shapes gives everyone the ability to make music. Play through a unique campaign that fuses music and artwork into a classic 2D platformer, featuring artwork by Pixeljam, Capy, Superbrothers and more, with music by I Am Robot and Proud, Jim Guthrie and Deadmau5. Then, create your own unique musical levels with all of the campaign content. Wheel of Fortune Spin the wheel and solve the puzzle with America’s Favorite Game Show! Wheel of Fortune captures the spirit of the popular TV show. Create your own character and experience Wheel of Fortune as never before. Solve puzzles to earn PS3 Trophies and become the game’s big winner! Super Mega Baseball Hammer Longballo and a friendly cast of semi-athletic baseball stars invite you out to the ballpark for a blazing fast, ultra-responsive game of hardball. Super Mega Baseball is easy to learn, but you’ll want to master jumping, diving, wall-catches, power swings/throws and cut-off plays to prevail in season mode versus the CPU, or to dominate your friends in local multiplayer. That’s it for July! We hope you love playing this month’s lineup, and for the PS4 owners out there, tell us what you think of the new subscription experience — we hope you are as excited to try it out as we are to finally share it with you. To check out the full list of games and supported devices for PS Now, visit http://www.playstationnow.com/. We’ll be back next month with more games and more announcements! View the full article

It’s happening! As you read this post, players all over the world are starting to play our sequel to Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, and our labor of love, Rocket League; with even more players joining in as they take advantage of our free status if they’re members of PlayStation Plus. We’ve poured our heart and soul into Rocket League, and we’ve done everything we can to make it the best game possible — whether it’s dedicated servers, crossplay with PC users, 10 billion-plus customization combinations, an all-new Season Mode, four-player splitscreen, eight-player online, a “cameras anywhere†replay viewer, Garage items from other PS4 and PC games, secrets, and of course, the PS4-exclusive vehicle, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal. It’s all in there and ready to be played! As a special surprise for today’s launch, we’re also pleased to announce that Ranked matches will join our previously-announced Unranked and Private matches starting immediately! Competitive players have been begging us for this feature since our beta, and now, we’re happy to give it to you! Speaking of which, the first several weeks of Ranked play is officially known as “Pre-Season,†which will allow players to test themselves while learning how our system works. “Season 1″ will formally kick off sometime in August. But that’s not all. We have BIG plans for Rocket League and our players, which is why you can expect to see plenty more from us over the next several weeks, months, and hopefully, even years. We are already putting the finishing touches on our first paid add-on pack, “Supersonic Fury,†which will add two new cars and several more surprises later this month. Even better: our first DLC map, inspired by the classic Battle-Cars arena, “Utopia,†is almost done as well and will be available in July. And, like all of our future maps, it will be 100% free. But we’ll have more on that soon. Finally, on behalf of everyone here at Psyonix, thank you. Thank you very much to our new and existing fans that have shown us why we love our jobs. Thank you for supporting our game and keeping us going. And thank you for making it all worthwhile. We couldn’t have done it without you. Now, go have fun! View the full article

Hello, PlayStation Nation! PlayStation has given me access to the Blog again to announce that the premiere episode of Conversations with Creators is now available on PlayStation Store on your PS4 and PS3 for free, and at the YouTube link below! For the first conversation, I sat down and spoke with four guys from Bungie: Jason Jones, Jason Sussman, Luke Smith, and Ryan Ellis. We discussed the origins of Destiny, the challenge and excitement of game creation, their upcoming release of Destiny: The Taken King, and what inspires them each day to improve their massive sandbox world… They all had some really interesting and inspiring things to share with me about their creative process. I left this conversation with a new appreciation for the creation, development, and management of one of the biggest and most popular gaming worlds in the PlayStation universe. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. Also, Bungie has declared that today is Bungie Day. To celebrate this totally not made up holiday that is a real thing, PlayStation Store will have special offers for Destiny Expansion 1: The Dark Below, Destiny Expansion II: House of Wolves, and the Destiny Expansion Pass. These offers will be available on PlayStation Store this afternoon. Alright, that’s it! Thanks for reading, thank you PlayStation for letting me drive the blog for a little bit, and I hope you enjoy the show. Happy Bungie Day! Your pal, Wil Wheaton View the full article

Hark, Guardians! Meet the newest member of the PS4 family, the Limited Edition Destiny: The Taken King PS4 Bundle available on September 15. See Full Gallery The package will include a white Destiny-inspired 500GB Limited Edition PS4 system and a physical copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, which includes Destiny, Expansions I and II, and The Taken King. You’ll also get an upgrade to the Digital Collector’s Edition, which includes the following content: three exotic Guardian class items with XP bonuses, three classic-specific emotes, three armor shaders, as well as the early access weapons pack. As you can see, the design showcases a map of the cosmos in silver with the Guardian’s crest set in gold right in the center – a beacon of hope in a besieged solar system. If you watched PlayStation’s E3 Press Conference, you know that Destiny: The Taken King adds a gigantic amount of new content. Highlights include a new Campaign adventure complete with a new story, new Guardian sub-classes with new Supers, new activities, new rewards, new weapons, new PvP maps, and much, much more. If you haven’t jumped into Destiny yet, this is a great opportunity to catch up since it gives you all content from launch. Also, existing players on PS3 can update to this version on PS4 without losing any progress. And of course, PS4 owners score access to fresh PlayStation-exclusive content*: a co-op Strike (Echo Chamber), a PvP multiplayer map (Sector 618), three legendary gear sets (Hesperos, Azoth Bend, and Neuroghast), plus an exotic scout rifle (the Jade Rabbit). We wanted to imbue the new Limited Edition Destiny: The Taken King PlayStation 4 Bundle with the same aesthetic beauty Bungie has lavished upon its new world. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below! *Timed exclusive until at least Fall 2016 View the full article

What’s up, everyone? With the first beta for Street Fighter V fast approaching on July 23rd, we felt that this would be the perfect time to let you all know what you can expect when you log in — and also answer some questions that fans have voiced as of late. The first beta kicks off on July 23rd at 6:00 PM Pacific for 5 days and is exclusive to PS4 users. The primary purpose of this beta is to test the online net code, as this is something that Capcom is taking very seriously with Street Fighter V. The data that we receive from this beta will help us to improve the net code in the final product, so we thank you in advance for participating in the beta. Here are some other details about the beta: CharactersThroughout the course of the beta, all 6 characters will be available. This means that players will be able try out all the characters that were present on the E3 build. To set expectations clearly, the beta will roll out with four characters playable immediately, with Birdie and Cammy becoming playable on Saturday, July 25th. The reason for their delayed release is that in addition to testing out the net code, we’re also testing out our new content delivery system Gameplay FlowWhen players boot the game up and go past the start screen, they’ll be taken to the character select screen. Players should choose the character they would like to fight others with, as they will not be able to select a different character before heading into battle. Once they select their character, players will be placed into training mode while an opponent is found. Upon finding an opponent, players will be transported back to the versus screen and begin their match shortly thereafter. After the match is complete, players will then be brought back to the Grid where they will go back into queue for the next match. Unfortunately there will be no local versus mode during this beta. Once again, the primary purpose of this beta is to test the online functionality. StagesWhile players are awaiting their match, they’ll be training in the Grid. Versus matches will take place in either the Bustling Side Street (China), Terminal Station (London), or in the brand new stage the Forgotten Waterfall. Each of the stages has been inspired by various locales throughout the world with the Forgotten Waterfall’s inspiration being directly pulled from New Zealand. Now that you know what to expect, players should read up on how the new battle systems work to get ready for battle. For those interested in signing up for the beta, please read the instructions below and follow those which pertain to your region.North America: Supported Countries: United States, Canada Users can get guaranteed Beta access by pre-ordering the product from the following retailers: GameStop / Amazon / Best Buy / PSN Beta redemption keys will be e-mailed from the retailer you pre-ordered at starting on 7/20 (Pacific time). Nearly 30 years ago Morak first took his place in the Gauntlet to shape it to his will and torment any adventurer daring to brave its depths. Last year he made his re-appearance to challenge champions on PC, and your cries for more ways to thwart his evil plans were heard. Today it was decreed that the heroes of Gauntlet must travel to a new realm, and coming August they will finally descend the dungeons on PS4! Gauntlet: Slayer Edition will be priced at $19.99 and eager adventurers will be able to get their hands on Mordok’s Screaming Hammer and Reaper’s Visage Helm for the Warrior by pre-ordering the game starting today on PlayStation Store. Invade the Darkness! The classic Gauntlet four-player co-op action returns in a completely new experience. Play as one of four distinct heroes in an intense, monster-filled dungeon brawler, with a combination of both uniquely built and randomly generated levels to explore. Battle the endless hordes of foes as you and your friends fight for treasure and glory via both local and online co-op multiplayer. And now a note from Emil Englund, Game Director, Arrowhead Game Studios: “Hello there, I am here today to tell you that you were right. Yes, as many of you have already theorized, we will be releasing Gauntlet: Slayer Edition on PS4. This has been in the works now for a while and it’s been so frustrating not being able to just tell everyone the news. Gauntlet is simply a game that feels right at home on PS4. This however, will not just be a straight port, but a stronger, cooler, and more slayer-y version of the one we released on PC. We’ve been shaping up a lot of the assets in the game, both Characters and Environments, as well as improving on the game mechanics. This time around, we wanted to explore the Heroes and their Abilities more in-depth giving them a bigger toolset for players to explore, as well as a new Game Mode in which to exercise their rights as self-proclaimed monster slayers. Since Hero Equipment plays a larger role now, we have reworked the loadout mechanic so that it can be done by four players simultaneously and regardless of game mode. For the story campaign we wanted to give the feeling that you are descending deeper and deeper into the Gauntlet, while at the same time giving players more control over level selection. We have also pushed the differences in each environment more, increasing variation both visually and in monster encounters. That’s some of the stuff we’ve been working on these past months, but more details to come in following blog posts. On a sidenote, this release is particularly exciting for us here at Arrowhead, since this will be the second game we release on PSN this year, after Helldivers (Yay!).†In upcoming posts we will get into more details about the development of Gauntlet for PS4. Tell us about your very best Gauntlet moments through the years in the comments; we love those “war stories!†Or shoot us a question and I will try to respond to anything I can. Prepare to Invade the Darkness this summer! View the full article

In 2012, our dear friends and partners at thatgamecompany brought a transcendent, award-winning game to the PlayStation universe that has connected gamers worldwide. Journey is a game that truly encapsulates our imagination and emotion into an experience like no other. If you’ve ascended the mountain, you know exactly what I mean. On July 21st, Journey will descend onto PS4 more stunningly beautiful than ever. If you have yet to discover its wonders, or desire to soar above the ruins and glide across the sands once again, this is the perfect time. Additionally, Journey will support cross buy. If you have digitally purchased it already for PS3, you can download it free for PS4. #OurJourney — What Did Your Journey Experience Mean To You?I could pen 5 pages of poetry to describe Journey, but this is a game that has meant something different to everyone. We’d like to call upon PlayStation fans worldwide to share “What Your Journey Experience Meant To Youâ€, and watch it come together at journey.playstation.com. Grab your phone, turn it toward you, record, and share your video testimonial on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Tag it with the hashtag #OurJourney Visit journey.playstation.com where we’ll feature many of the memories and emotions that have impacted us all during our journey. You can follow the lead of Jenova Chen, Creative Director of Journey, who starts #OurJourney: So, what did your Journey experience mean to you? If you can’t answer that question yet, then you certainly can on July 21st. Finally, if you happened to miss it, you can still pre-order the Journey vinyl featuring the Grammy-nominated score from composer Austin Wintory, in a stunning 2-disc LP set from our friends at iam8bit. Nearly a month after pre-orders launched, Skullgirls 2nd Encore is almost here! The game will officially be released tomorrow, July 7th, and unlock for pre-orderers tonight! For those who haven’t been keeping up, 2nd Encore is the ultimate edition of Skullgirls, containing: All DLC characters included Fully voiced story modes New Challenges New Trials New Survival Mode Cross-play with the PS3 and PS Vita versions Full Platinum Trophy set On top of that, if you needed another incentive, Skullgirls 2nd Encore is cross buy — purchasing the PS4 version will get you the PS Vita release, and vice versa. The PS Vita version will be out a little later this summer. All of that for $24.99. If you haven’t preordered yet, it’s not too late! PlayStation Plus members will get a 20% discount on their pre-order, as well as a swanky PS4 theme! The theme features a beautiful new piece of art, icons featuring Skullgirls characters, and a soothing instrumental arrangement of Michiru Yamane’s In a Moment’s Time. We think it’s one of the best PS4 themes out there, and we’re confident you’ll agree. You can check out the theme here. While we won’t be able to bring 2nd Encore’s new features to the PS3 version, we haven’t forgotten our PS3 fans. Robo-Fortune and New Features On PS3The final DLC character funded by our Indiegogo campaign, Robo-Fortune, will be released on PS3 alongside Skullgirls 2nd Encore. Robo-Fortune was originally going to be a remix character based on Ms. Fortune, but we were able to upgrade her into something much more: a complete draw-over with a new design, and all new normal, special and super attacks. As with previous DLC characters, Robo-Fortune will be free to download for the first three months of release, and “her†price will increase to $4.99 after that. The patch that enables Robo-Fortune will go live tonight, and will also add the following new features: Art Gallery: A massive gallery featuring concept, production and guest art! CPU Quickmatch: Pick your AI opponents and fight them for a quick Skullgirls fix! New Alternate Voice Packs: For Peacock, Parasoul, Painwheel, Big Band, and Double! New Alternate Announcer Voice Packs: Female Announcer and “Dazed†Announcer! New Taunts: Every character old and new has taunts now! New Tutorials: Covering gameplay systems that have been updated since the original release! Naturally, all of these will be included in Skullgirls 2nd Encore for PS4 and PS Vita, as well! Hey, I’m Erlend Grefsrud, and I’m making Myriad on PS4 and PS Vita. It’s my first solo game, published by my company Bifrost Entertainment, and I’m responsible for everything except the music, courtesy of his reverberant majesty Mathias Rudsengen. Myriad is a beatmatched crystallization of arcade aesthetics. It’s a game that grows more and more beautiful the better you play, where you make and break worlds, control time, and bend space — all for one thing: performance. Myriad is purely about performance. It’s stark naked, with no story, no obvious meaning at all, just actions and consequences, crisp shapes and you. Everything springs out of your performance. The game is pretty simple: defeat enemies to build the level you play in. But beware: defeating enemies only multiplies their numbers. Your goal is to blow up the level you built in a glorious chain reaction to clear it of enemies, upgrade your weapons — and do it again. Bigger and better. As you progress, you make and break bigger and bigger worlds along with ever greater swarms of enemies. All the while, the soundtrack builds around your performance, punctuating events and swelling towards the next explosive crescendo. You compete to deliver the highest-scoring performance. The current best is showcased right on the title screen where everyone can see it, thanks to Myriad’s replay system. Every performance is recorded and can be rewinded, meaning Myriad lets you control time. You don’t restart when you die — you just rewind. No game over screen, no breaking the flow, just undo your mistake and keep performing. Your highest-scoring performances are saved too, so you can share them and enjoy your friends’ best performances — and even participate in them. Any time you watch a replay, you can just resume playing. Myriad puts you in control and lets you carry on the performance. Myriad is about giving you as much control as possible. You can control space as well as time: every circle can be picked up and moved, whether it’s an enemy or part of the level. This is Myriad’s purpose: to open possibilities, yield control, get out of the way and let you play — I want your performance to be Myriad’s meaning. I made it as beautiful as I could. Now it’s your turn to make it more so. View the full article

Set between Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls on PS Vita introduces a number of new faces while bringing back a few familiar ones. With the horrors from The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History that surrounded Hope’s Peak Academy still overshadowing mankind, the war of despair rages on. Upon discovering Komaru, one of the playable heroines of Danganronpa Another Episode, Byakuya of Future Foundation returns from the first Danganronpa game to save her from the attacking Monokumas. Soon after equipping her with a Hacking Gun to destroy the Monokumas, she is caught by the Warriors of Hope, a band of children who rule over Towa City. At first, the children seem innocent, mirroring the Ultimate students that Hope’s Peak Academy strives for to become the ray of hope for society. Each of them specializing in their specific strength, the Warriors of Hope identify themselves with various Dragon Quest job classes. Masaru Daimon starts off, the Li’l Ultimate P.E. and the hero of the Warriors of Hope, who claims to be the leader and is followed by Nagisa Shingetsu, the Li’l Ultimate Social Studies and the sage of the Warriors of Hope. Next introduced is Jataro Kemuri, Li’l Ultimate Art as the priest, and Kotoko Utsugi, the fighter of the Warriors of Hope and Li’l Ultimate Drama. And last but not least, the true leader of the Warriors of Hope and Li’l Ultimate Homeroom, Monaca, who acts as the mage in their band of personas. The Warriors of Hope are carrying out a revolution against adults in Towa City — they blame the adults for the tragedy and want to eliminate adults to build a utopia for children and become a beacon of hope for all kids. After defending the adults and upsetting Monaca, Komaru is deemed to be one of the “Demons,†which spurs a game called Demon Hunting — a super fun game where the Warriors of Hope fight to see who takes down the demon first. Guided by Kurokuma, the stylish, Monokuma-like advisor to the Warriors of Hope, the hunt begins. Soon after, Komaru is joined by Toko, a.k.a. Genocide Jack, the other playable heroine, and introduced to Shirokuma and the Resistance who will help you traverse through Towa City to survive. Of course, this heavy story can’t be complete without the humor that only Danganronpa can provide; Komaru’s ordinary girl responses in contrast to Toko’s eccentric thoughts and fantasies give way to lighthearted banter despite running for their lives. And so, the rest is up to you — how will you escape? Will you survive the attacks by the Warriors of Hope and escape the hordes of Monokumas? Will you find hope or will you fall into the ultimate despair that lies beyond it? See for yourself when Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls launches on September 1st in North America! And be sure to check out the previous Danganronpa games, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair to stave off your thirst for more despair! View the full article

Hey y’all! I’m proud to introduce Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!, a massive sequel to the surprise hit on PC. It will be making its console debut on PS4! Woo! Way back in the PSone days, I’d always pick up a copy of the official PlayStation magazine for the included demo discs. Every now and then they’d have a special “import section†that had untranslated demos of games from Japan that would likely never make their way to the states. One of these was a game called Ore no Ryouri, a twin stick cooking game that had you pouring beers and making foods for customers. It was just a small, timed demo, but it had me hooked. Well after playing it, the idea of making an insane cooking game kept gnawing away at me. I got into making small games and pursued my passion for game development, but it wasn’t until making Cook, Serve, Delicious! that it all clicked together. Finally, my love of food and intense gameplay mechanics were merged into one. Still, I didn’t know if that would play to the gaming audience, given that a large majority of cooking games were of the simple, casual variety, and Cook, Serve, Delicious! was very much the opposite of that. In fact it didn’t really take off until Ryan Davis of Giantbomb picked it up for a Quick Look video. Since then, the game has inspired hundreds of Let’s Play videos and streams for a cumulative total of more than six million views, and has grossed nearly a million across PC and mobile. Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! has you rebuilding your own restaurant in a massive skyscraper, earning money by cooking and serving customers delicious food, and building up your restaurant’s reputation from a zero star dilapidated café to a five star world famous restaurant. Along the way you’ll jump into other restaurants in the tower for shift work, star in the biggest reality cooking show ever, participate in tournaments all over the world, uncover mysterious ingredients, and tons, tons more. The breakneck pace and gameplay has been a staple of the game, and this game will be even faster and more challenging than ever. This is a huge, massive sequel to the first game. Everything is new in this game, from the art by Camille Kuo, to the music by Jonathan Geer, to the large amount of game content, with more than 180 foods, 1,000+ recipes, tons of unlockables and events, and dozens of hours of gameplay. For those who have played the first game, you can look forward to even better gameplay mechanics with all new strategies and components, running at 1080p and 60 frames per second. I can’t wait to launch the game in 2016! Thanks, and if you have any questions I’ll be sure to answer them below. Until then, keep cooking deliciously! View the full article

The end of the world is nearly upon us. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture now has a release date of August 11th and the team is working exceptionally hard on the final few touches to ensure that the game is as perfect as it can be. As you read this I’m in L.A. with our brilliant sound designer Adam Hay and the wonderful Sony sound and music team doing the final mix of the game. I can’t believe that this time has finally come- it’s scary and exciting in equal measures because it means that there are no more changes: no more “can we just tryâ€, no “how about if weâ€, no “I think we should†– just the knowledge that for better or worse, this is how the game will sound on release. *sobs into gin-soaked pillow* As well as being The Chinese Room composer I’m also joint studio head, and working on this game has been a blast. Of course there have also been times when I would have chewed my own arm off to leave the development, but that’s how it goes on long projects! I know this game so well – I know every rock, every VO, every blade of grass. This level of immersion in the game world has enabled me to write a score that is a love letter to the game and the characters within it. Every main character has their own distinct musical theme (think Peter and the Wolf but for the apocalypse) and the music helps to gently guide you round the world as well as providing the emotional core of the experience. All we want as artists I think is to keep getting better; we strive for the thing that is always out of reach. The music for Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was a real challenge – being set in the ’80s there was perhaps an expectation that I’d write a synth-driven retrotastic score. I tried that and when we put it in the game it simply didn’t work. The world that the team has created is so timeless and it just felt wrong to impose a heavy-handed pastiche onto the environment. So I decided to create what I hope is timeless music; music for an England that only ever existed in the imagination. Being afforded the opportunity to write beautiful music for this incomparably beautiful game has been a true honour. To record at the world-famous AIR Studios was a career defining moment for me. As I stood watching and listening to the assembled group of phenomenally talented musicians and singers I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I was lucky enough to have this very special time documented by Sony and you can watch the video on this page to get a taste of the music of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and an insight into how it was created. The end result is — I hope — rural, dream-like, lyrical, passionate, poetic and most of all an encapsulation of that this game is all about: a celebration of what it is to be human. Our E3 press conference demo literally left Drake hanging and with good cause. We wanted to give attendees of E3 a treat and show them if Sully and Drake ever caught up to Nathan’s brother, Sam, in time. The reaction was pretty fantastic. Now, for everyone not able to see it at the show, or on Twitch, you can watch it right here. Get ready for a wild ride as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be careening into your living room in 2016. Hi all! I’m really excited to give you a little insight into our experience bringing Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved to PS Vita. We’re big fans of the Vita here at Lucid, and we were always very keen to bring the Geometry Wars series to it. The pin-sharp screen coupled with the twin sticks are a perfect fit for the game, so we were really happy to go ahead with the conversion. We wanted Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved to be the same fully featured experience it is on PS4 and PS3 — capturing all of the varied gameplay and enemies that can be encountered across its multiplayer modes and 100+ single-player levels. Among the technical challenges we faced, we had to ensure that we could hold a steady 60 FPS (frames per second) even when there were hordes of enemies chasing you down. The Vita’s graphical architecture is quite advanced for a handheld platform, but it is not at the same level as PS4, so our graphics team looked at how we could achieve comparable visual fidelity between the two versions while still keeping the game silky smooth. One advantage is that the Vita’s display is lower than a 1080p TV, so we did not need to flood the game with as many pixels every frame. This instantly helped to free up GPU (graphics processor unit) time, along with a little CPU (central processing unit) time. However the complex shaders and lighting wizardry that was used to define the vibrant Geometry Wars world on PS4 was a bit too much for its sibling to cope with, so we had to deploy some developer tricks to achieve similar results, and after a few months, we had something that not only looked spot-on, but also maintained that all-important framerate. Whilst this graphical work was happening, the gameplay guys worked on the actual playability of the game on Vita. Geometry Wars is all about the way in which the ship moves and responds to the player’s input, so we checked out the way in which the dead zones can affect the movement of the craft and the way it responds. The process is a little different for every platform, but it’s crucial for ensuring that the game always feels just right on each and every device available. After working through the single-player component, we then concentrated on multiplayer. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved on Vita still has 8-player competitive mode of the console versions. We used Activision’s Demonware service for this; it’s cross-platform, which essentially allowed us to carry a lot of the same code between various versions of the game. Things were going well until we got to local cooperative multiplayer… On PS4, you need additional controllers to play Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved with a partner. Obviously, there’s no way to achieve that on PS Vita, so we were initially a little stumped. The easy option would have been to take the feature out altogether, but we sat around and thought about other possibilities. In the end, we came with a unique two-player co-op format in which players sit opposite one another and play the game simultaneously on the same screen. Player 1 uses the D-Pad to move and the nearest analog stick for shooting, while Player 2 uses the other analog stick for moving with the face buttons to shoot. This combination might seem strange at first, but it’s actually easy to pick up, so you can sit together with your buddy / partner / enemy on the sofa and share a little light Vita relief. I hope this post has shed some interesting light on how we’re bringing Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved to PS Vita. We are really pleased with the results and cannot wait for you to experience the game for yourselves. It’s also really exciting to announce that the PS Vita version will be free to all PlayStation Plus subscribers as part of July’s Instant Game Collection starting next week, so we hope to see you all posting some astronomically high scores on the leaderboards soon! Welcome back to PlayStation Underground, our online show about video games! Today, we are pleased to host and honored to have our special guest, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida! Before we were all swept away by the hustle and bustle of E3, Shu stopped by to showcase his personal obsession with Bloodborne by braving a high-level Chalice Dungeon with absolutely no fear (but maybe a little bit of caution). Shu also shares his heartfelt appreciation for the project, his history with FromSoftware, and his favorite weapons to employ against flaming hell beasts. He got a Platinum Trophy on this game, people! My special thanks to Shu for stopping by to share his own Bloodborne character and face crushing defeat on camera… Let me know what you think in the comments, and remember that we’ll be back soon with more Underground in the weeks to come. Enjoy the show. View the full article

Who’s ready to do some dimension-hoppin’? Today’s the day that Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation hits the PS Vita, and things are about to get zany. A remake of Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, which appeared on PS3, this game features an improved RPG battle system, more scenarios, and extra dollops of fourth-wall-breaking humor! In Re;Birth3, you’ll take control of Neptune — CPU, Goddess, and all-around protector of the nation of Planeptune in the world of Gamindustri. Things are going pretty swell until you get tossed into an 80’s-tinged dimension of Gamindustri. In order to get back to your dimension, you’ll need to save this one from the nefarious Seven Sages alliance, who aren’t too fond of CPUs existing in this dimension or any other. You’ll fight in battle using four characters, all of whom can be paired up with four more characters for easy battle-swapping. By pairing characters up consistently, you’ll be able to unlock special bonuses, and blast the enemy with pair-specific attacks. The power of friendship transcends all dimensions! The attack system has also been improved to allow characters to perform up to five attacks in a combo, so now you’ve got even more chances to bury the enemy. While all that battle stuff’s going on, I’d like to also mention that the mini-game Stella’s Dungeon is back from Re;Birth2 and better than ever! In this roguelike mini-game, you’ll equip Stella with armor and weapons and send her to climb a tower in a quest for more items. This time, though, you can bring a friend! The NPCs you usually find in the cities, like Snake Hayter, D-Bag, and other lovely citizens can now join Stella in her item quest. Each Scout will bring their own stats and special skills, like creating fewer enemies or allowing you to keep your items after death. To think, such item-getting will be happening all while you’re fighting your own battles or even leaving your Vita in rest mode! On top of all that, we’ve added new scenarios, including some scenes with some not-so-friendly representations of mobile games, as well as streamlining the UI, and adding changes to dungeon maps. Now you can find random items by jumping to reveal hidden blocks, in a cheeky homage to some game I’m sure! All this, and you still get to craft special equipment, change your world with Plans, and experience the wacky humor of Gamindsutri! For the first time ever, we’ll also have special Re;Birth3 themes available for purchase on PSN. Let me just say, they’re very kawaii. So set your non-trademarked dimension-hopping machine to here and now (Look, you’re already there!) and pick up your copy of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation! And try not to step on any butterflies in your transdimensional travels, or else you might be stuck in the 80’s forever! *new wave music echoes, fades away* View the full article
