Hi everyone, Tj’ièn here from Abstraction Games. I’m really excited to tell you about Heroes of Loot today, a fun little game by Orange Pixel, Dutch indie developer extraordinaire. Heroes of Loot is a new take on the classic Gauntlet — not the remake, but the classic 80’s version. It’s a dungeon crawler open to all sorts of players, with the deep statistical stuff of roguelikes stripped out and replaced with arcade shooting. Orange Pixel’s goal was to create something that had the old feeling of the 8-bit classic but was updated with various current design concepts and tricks, including procedurally generated content, random quests, and just a lot of non-serious action. Another great thing about Heroes of Loot is that the game keeps on giving, even when you reach level 30 or 40 — players will still discover new things and run into monsters that they haven’t seen before. Heroes of Loot will drop on PS Vita on September 22nd, so just a few more nights before you’ll find yourself in the middle of hordes of ghosts, skulls, cyclops, critters, and much more. Try to survive using quick reflexes, level up to improve your weapon, and — if you have time — complete some quests for extra loot and upgrades. One last tip: never, ever, rush into a steaming, puffing, fire-spitting Minotaur… run away! View the full article

Hey everyone! Exciting news coming straight from Tokyo Game Show today! First off, the character that many of you have been waiting for to return to the Street Fighter series is finally back: Karin Kanzuki! Two years ago, we held a worldwide character popularity poll to find out who the fans liked the most, and Karin came in 7th worldwide (1st when just looking at Japan results), despite having only appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 3. Today, we’re happy to reintroduce her to the series with a brand new design and play style. Karin is the young heiress to the Kanzuki Zaibatsu, a global financial conglomerate that possesses vast wealth and resources. Her regal and pampered upbringing is what led to her high-maintenance attitude and razor-sharp wit. But behind her flowing golden locks lies a true martial artist obsessed with upholding her family motto, “In all things be victorious!†Karin is well versed in numerous martial arts, which she and her family combined to create a unique “Kanzuki style†of fighting. Above: Karin in Street Fighter Alpha 3 In Street Fighter V, Karin is a well-rounded character, possessing a wide array of strikes and moves at her disposal for any situation. Utilizing her new dash move allows her to close the distance quickly between her opponents and go in for a quick high-low attack or throw. And just when the opponent thinks they’ve figured out how to deal with the pressure, Karin’s V-Trigger completely changes up her game plan by allowing her to perform her signature Guren Ken multi-string attacks and variations. Players who enjoy attacking with speed and a large variety of tools will find Karin to be extremely satisfying to utilize. V-Skill: Meioken Karin lunges forward with a devastating palm strike that dissipates projectiles and knocks down the opponent if it connects, all while helping to build her V-Trigger gauge. By holding down the buttons, players can charge the move for a split second, giving it better hit and block properties. V-Trigger: Kanzuki-Ryu Guren No Kata Karin channels her inner Ki to unlock the true potential of the Kanzuki fighting style, giving her access to the Guren Ken attack, which in itself possesses over half a dozen different follow ups and variations. After the initial Guren Ken, she is able to transition immediately into an overhead attack, a low sweep, a flying throw, another quick set of strikes, or even a backdash to bait out counterattacks. This gives her immense flexibility in controlling the flow of the fight, ensuring that she comes out on top. Karin is playable at Tokyo Game Show, so be sure to stop by the Capcom booth if you are able to! And if the return of one of the most popular characters in the series wasn’t enough, we have another big announcement: the Capcom Fighters Network! * work-in-progress logo The Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) is a community building tool that will be directly built into the online infrastructure of Street Fighter V. Here is a list of some of the things that you’ll be able to do in-game via CFN: See where battles are happening all over the world on a “heat map†View player profiles and detailed match statistics Designate “rivals†throughout the world and monitor their performance Register friends and follow your favorite players Search and watch replay files Send online battle invitations Check out the latest patch and tournament news And much more! We’ll have more concrete details on all the various CFN features at a later date, but just to whet your appetite, here are some work-in-progress screenshots. The main CFN screen shows the “heat map†and will look something like this: *work-in-progress screen Each blinking light on the world map represents a pocket of active users that are engaged in online battles. With the heat map, you’ll be able see where all the action is taking place and even be able to drill down to the individual players who are fighting, in order to check out their profile information, past match history, replays, and even send them a fight request. As Street Fighter V will be at the forefront of our eSports activities upon release, we wanted to make sure that players had access to all the statistical data possible to help analyze their weaknesses and improve their game. *work-in-progress screen The game tracks not only online win/loss records, but fine detail stats such as “how many light punches did you land,†“how many throws did you tech,†“in what ways did you win the match,†and much, much more. We are confident that players will appreciate this new knowledge and use it to push themselves to the next level and rise above the competition. Hope you all enjoyed this double dose of SFV news! Stay tuned for the next announcement because we still have a lot of surprises in store. Until next time! View the full article

Welcome to the circus, PlayStation fanatics! My name is Rick van Ginkel, Designer and Producer at independent studio Self Made Miracle. I am super excited to announce that — together with indie games label Team17 — we will bring our debut title Penarium to PS4 on September 22nd! Penarium is a frantic 2D arena arcade game where you take on the role of quirky antihero, Willy. Willy is trapped in a crazy circus show where he needs to run, jump, and avoid an array of killer death-traps while being cheered on by a sadistic crowd that’s out for blood — his blood. With Penarium, we strived to create a challenging, single-screen platformer with super tight, pick up and play controls that provide a lot of depth and variation through various single and multiplayer game modes. In Campaign mode you will make your way through Willy’s tragic story by completing 30 challenges spread throughout three unique arenas. Are you able to save poor Willy from his horrible fate of being a defenseless circus gladiator for the amusement of a bloodthirsty crowd? In the endless Arcade mode you are able to unlock a variety of power-ups that help you compete against your friends and the rest of the world on the leaderboards. Penarium offers local couch co-op multiplayer for two players in both cooperative and versus modes where fellow contestant Rajiv joins Willy in the sadistic circus extravaganza. Compete against each other or work together for the high score! We coated all of this in a thick layer of absurd, dark comedy and lots of (pixelated) blood. What good is a circus show when nobody dies horrifically on stage? We presented the game at a number of events and the most heard player responds to dying yet again has always been; “just one more go!†Every kid wants to go to the circus, but no kid wants to die in one… View the full article

Hello there! I’m Tanya Short, designer at Kitfox Games. You may remember my original post last year announcing that Moon Hunters would be coming to PS4 and PS Vita. Since then, we’ve grown the game tremendously, adding in two extra player classes, the mountain and river biomes, and most recently the cooking system. We’re on track to launch on PS4 in Spring, 2016. Today I’m writing because I wanted to tell you about the cooking system, which has been a rare pleasure to develop. It’s been a full calendar year since we Kickstarted Moon Hunters . At the $75,000 stretch goal, we promised a PS4 version. This improved our community — after we announced our support for PS4, not only did more pledges pour in, but the positivity surrounding the game grew. I don’t know if it’s because there’s something special about indie-loving PS4 players, or maybe everyone just feels more hopeful when there’s console versions in the mix, but I’m grateful for it. $10,000 later, we promised a cooking system. I always felt cooking would be wonderful, but it would almost certainly have been cut if we hadn’t gotten that extra Kickstarter boost. We’ve mailed out t-shirts, posters, and postcards, answered countless emails, but nothing has given us the satisfaction as making this cooking system! Cooking in games is deeply nostalgic thanks to classic journeying games like Suikoden II, Tales of Symphonia, and Monster Hunter… but I think cooking nostalgia goes even deeper than that. Modern chefs use fancy tools and techniques, but even back in ancient Mesopotamia, cooking was essential to Gilgamesh and Enkidu on their travels. It may be the oldest art form, given that the human species evolved around the same time as the use of fire. The cooking in Moon Hunters is straight-forward. Mix two ingredients together and depending on the result, everyone in the party gets a bonus. Explorers will enjoy finding all the different ways you can find and unlock new ingredients — shopping, dialogue, killing monsters, and so on, with various regional flavors. The most delicious fish are from the river, rare berries grow up in the mountains, the desert village cultivates apricots, etc. Perhaps due to that ancient urge, despite its simplicity, cooking has been a hit with playtesters! Groups of players cheer and laugh, whether their chef has successfully made Moon Cakes or fumbled into Weird Soup. In fact, they cheered almost as much as defeating a boss. Yet implementing cooking has felt like an indulgent luxury. As an indie dev, I’m not used to exploring my wish-list features. Combat, lighting, movement… those are needed. Cooking… not technically, no. It’s a rare pleasure to round out a game-world. So, thank you for this rare and delicious opportunity. Until Spring 2016, please feel free to sign up for our newsletter for important updates. View the full article

If you visited Telltale at PAX Prime last month, you might have gotten a sneak peek at Minecraft: Story Mode, or at least seen a pretty darn cool booth. No worries if you didn’t make it out to Seattle though, because we can announce today that you’ll be able to get your hands on the season premiere of Minecraft: Story Mode next month! Episode 1 — The Order of the Stone will debut digitally for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on Tuesday, October 13th, and at retail on Tuesday, October 27th. Each episode will be available to purchase individually via PlayStation Store, or you can pick up the season pass to get access to Episodes 1-5 as they release. The retail edition will ship with the premiere episode on the disc, and will grant access to the subsequent four episodes in the season as they become available to download via online updates. The season will also be coming to PS Vita — stay tuned for more details on exact dates. As per usual, we’re keeping plenty of exciting details under wraps so you can have the fun of discovering them for yourself. We can give you a little taste of what to expect, though… In Minecraft: Story Mode, playing as either a male or female hero named Jesse, you’ll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon. While at EnderCon in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, Jesse’s friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and you must set out on a quest to find The Order of the Stone if you are to save your world from oblivion. We’ve been working closely with the people at Mojang to ensure that Minecraft: Story Mode absolutely feels like a part of the world that Minecraft players already know and love, with a cinematic story and trademark Telltale choice-based gameplay. We know how important customization is to the creative minds who play Minecraft, so we’ve paid special attention to implementing that in Minecraft: Story Mode, too. This is the first Telltale game where YOU get to choose the appearance of the player character. Not only do you get to play as either a male or female version of Jesse, you’ll also be able to select from 3 different looks for each. We’ve also managed to snag some seriously all-star voice talent for the season. Male Jesse is portrayed by Patton Oswalt (you might recognize his voice from Ratatouille and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), while female Jesse is voiced by Catherine Taber (she’s been in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Marvel Heroes). The season will also feature Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens — and there are still more cast details to come! We couldn’t possibly be more excited to be working with such an amazing group of actors. And one quick note for those looking forward to the season finales of Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones — they are shaping up to be two of our most ambitious finales yet! Look out for more news on those coming out soon. Thanks for reading, and as ever, let us know your thoughts in the comments below! View the full article

Hello! William here. I’m an independent game developer based in Chicago. You might be familiar with my game Relativity – it’s an exploration puzzle game where you can change gravity and walk within a world of impossible geometry. It was part of PlayStation Experience last year, and was also shown during the PlayStation livestream at E3 earlier this year. I have some big news today. The game now has a new name: Manifold Garden. The original prototype was based on the M.C. Escher print Relativity and just involved changing gravity to walk on walls. The game is so much more than that now. We’ve added a ton of new mechanics, and the game is now really about exploring architecture and consequences in a world where physics is turned upside down. Geometry In Manifold Garden, the world wraps back on itself in 3D. You can travel in any direction, and you end up back where you started. Going down actually leads you back up. A lot of the puzzles in the game involve exploring how physics behave in such geometry. What happens when you drop a cube off the edge? You’ll see it come back down from above, and you’ll also see it falling beneath you, at the same time. In the later levels, we even start to change how the world wraps around. What happens if you staggered each repetition? Or rotated every other instance? WaterOne of the new mechanics we’ve introduced is water. How does water behave in a world that wraps around on itself? Like the cube, when water falls of the edge, it’ll come back down from above, except since it’s a continuous stream, you actually get a waterloop! In my previous post, I showed the cubes being used to trigger switches and hold up other blocks. The cubes now can be used to “bend†or redirect streams of water. Not only that, the cubes are actually fruit that grow on trees, and you can even “plant†a cube to turn it into a tree. As you progress throughout the game, you’re cultivating a garden and harvesting cubes. Photography Mode A major theme of the game is architecture, and I really want you to be able to experience it and express your creativity with the space. Once you finish all the puzzles in an area, you’ll unlock photography mode, which will give you access to a variety of cameras and effects, such as axonometric, or “glitch†to play with: ConclusionI’m super excited about the new direction that the game is taking. It’s opening a lot more room for player expression, both in puzzle solving and in the visuals. As part of the name change, here is a collection of 100 beautiful high resolution wallpapers to celebrate. If you want to stay up to date, check out the website. I also post regularly on Twitter, as well as the game’s devlog. And if you’re interested in game development, I actually stream development every weekday over on my Twitch channel. Drop by and say hi sometime! Finally, if you have any questions, I’ll be answering them in the comments section. View the full article

The Freemode Events Update for Grand Theft Auto Online is now available as an automatic download for PS4. This entirely new way to play GTA Online with no loading screens or lobbies features a wide array of madness, including: Hunt the Beast Become the Beast — a stronger, faster (and hairier) version of your character — and flee relentless pursuers all over Los Santos and Blaine County. King of the Castle An every man for himself turf war where you’ll need to ascend and claim the designated “castle†as your territory — and then fend off everyone else as they go all out to dethrone you. Hot Property Grab the briefcase and go! Jump into a car, bike, boat, motorcycle, P-996 Lazer or just run for the hills with the coveted contraband in hand. Be one of the three players who hold the briefcase the longest to score GTA$ and RP bonuses. Moving Target The first player to enter a marked vehicle will become the Moving Target, tasked with safely delivering the vehicle to a designated location. While the marked vehicles will be durable, it’ll take some serious elusive finesse to survive other players’ attempts to destroy you before the drop point. Checkpoint Challenge Compete with all your Freemode competitors in a mad dash across southern San Andreas. Who will be the first to race or fly through all the designated checkpoints for fame, fortune, and reputation? Kill List and Kill List Competitive Take control of some of heavy artillery and duke it out with the mercenaries from Merryweather Security. Rack up GTA$ and RP for each kill. Dead Drop Fight for possession of valuable contraband and see if you can make the drop first in this ruthless smuggler’s run. Penned In When you see the enormous dome appear over the Los Santos skyline, jump into the closest ride and find your way into it before the timer starts. Then, stay within the dome as it begins to move and shrink, smashing and bashing rivals out. Those who are left out of the dome for more than 7 seconds will explode. See if you can be the sole survivor at the very end. Criminal Damage Whet your appetite for destruction with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Get strapped with a favorite piece of heavy artillery and let loose over a given time period with no wanted level in sight. Wanton destruction is rewarded with every bullet hole and blast. The player with the largest property damage bill who causes the most destruction will win. Hold the Wheel A Sanchez, a Golf Cart or another otherwise humble mode of transport is made into an indestructible marked vehicle. Take command of it and avoid all the other jackers and assailants in your session to be the one behind the driver’s seat when time runs out. Try and go for it solo to keep the entire GTA$ award for yourself, or shrewdly partner up with a gunner to ride with you for protection and split the earnings. Time Trial Record the fastest time possible, with a new course to master every week that awards you GTA$ and RP for beating our target time or your own personal best — and a championship worthy haul if you can take down the World Record. Freemode Challenges Compete in 19 unique Challenges against your Freemode friends and foes. See who can perform the longest jump, who can drive the farthest without crashing, who can fall the longest distance without dying, who can freefall the farthest before pulling their ‘chute — and many other ways to risk your neck to try and be a top 3 finisher for GTA$ and RP rewards. Two New Adversary ModesThe Freemode Events Update also includes two all-new exciting Adversary Modes: Cross the Line: Heavily-armed squads face off across a neutral zone — with the goal of having all team members strategically penetrate their opponents territory to claim victory. Hunting Pack: You’re part of a team tasked to deliver a priority vehicle rigged to explode if it drops below a minimum speed, while your opponents race, ram and batter to take it down. Rockstar Editor Now Available for PS4The Freemode Events Update includes the launch of the Rockstar Editor on the PS4 — with several new features that have been added to it — including an ambient audio and sound effects library, Snapmatic integration, Director Mode updates, and new fonts. Creator UpdatesToday’s update also brings new features to the GTA Online Creator, which includes the ability to properly stack and overlap Props, as well as the ability to save Prop templates that can be reused throughout custom Job creation. Now, clever Creators can make insane mega ramps, super loops, and brilliant parkour courses better than ever. Limited-Time GTA$ Bonus and Exclusive T-shirt UnlockComplete any 5 of these brand new GTA Online Freemode Events between Tuesday, September 15th and Sunday, September 20th to get GTA$50,000 bonus in-game cash plus an exclusive Vapid t-shirt (awarded by Friday, September 25th). And look for more details on more GTA Online bonuses to be announced in the upcoming Freemode Events Social Club Weekend later this week on the Rockstar Newswire. View the full article

The story of Nathan Drake is full of nearly indescribable, wondrous moments. If you attended PAX Prime you might have made one of your own #UnchartedMoments. Now, as we look toward the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection next month, we wanted to invite you into our studio to talk about some of our personal favorite moments from the first three Uncharted games. The first moment that came to mind is this scene from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Drake is being held in an abandoned prison by the ruthless pirate, Eddy Raja, and his escape results in a white-knuckle truck chase. This scene really gets at the humor present in the series and the depths Elena and Drake will go through together. It was a memorable scene to create as it began our obsession with having a thrilling vehicle chase in subsequent Uncharted games. The play-through below comes straight from the new Uncharted collection, faithfully and beautifully remastered for PlayStation 4. Pretty thrilling stuff, right? We’re showing off more of this sequence and talking about what went into making one of our favorite moments in the franchise on our Naughty Dog Twitch channel right now. Tune in! In fact, we’ll be sharing development team insights about select UNCHARTED moments and other cool, new features in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection starting now through launch. Uncharted Moments #1: Uncharted Drake’s Fortune – Chapters 6-8 Monday, September 14, 2015 (11:30-12:30pm PST) Host: Eric Monacelli Guests: Josh Scherr, Eric Baldwin Uncharted Moments #2: Fan Voted! Tuesday, September 29, 2015 (11:30-12:30pm PST) Host: Joe Pettinati Guests: TBD What is your favorite Uncharted Moment? We want to hear from you. Take the poll or sound off in the chat over on the Naughty Dog Twitch channel. We’ll stream the winning moment on our September 29 steam. Choose wisely, you can only pick one. Voting will end next Monday, September 21 so vote today! Uncharted Moments #3: UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection New Game Modes & Features Tuesday, October 6, 2015 (11:30-12:30pm PST) Host: Joe Pettinati Guests: Sam Thompson, Dan Carrigan Can’t wait to play part of the new Uncharted collection? We’re happy to announce that you’ll be able to play through one of our other favorite moments, the Warzone chapter of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, in the consumer demo that will go live on the PlayStation Store on September 29. Speaking of fan voting, we recently wrapped our We Love Fine Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Design Contest. Here are the winning t-shirt designs as voted by the fans and our esteemed panel of judges. T-Shirts featuring the winning designs will be available for purchase on We Love Fine. The Assassins are coming to PlayStation Now! Starting tomorrow, five epic Assassin’s Creed titles will launch on the subscription service. This release includes the PS3 versions of the first five games in the series — Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and Assassin’s Creed III — each of which explores a unique, deeply immersive chapter in the Assassin’s struggle to save humankind from domination by the Knights Templar. With the upcoming launch of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate on the near horizon, there’s never been a better time to discover — or rediscover — each of the games in this blockbuster franchise. Assassin’s CreedAssassin’s Creed was the game that started it all. The game is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history. Assassin’s Creed IIAssassin’s Creed II is an epic story of brotherhood, vengeance, and conspiracy set in the pristine yet brutal backdrop of 15th century Renaissance Italy. The new hero of the game, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families, and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a Master Assassin. Assassin’s Creed BrotherhoodLive and breathe as a legendary master Assassin, armed with your own guild to lead and customize. Set directly after the events of Assassin’s Creed II in the most historical city in the world, Rome, Ezio plots to strike at the heart of the Templar Order. Brotherhood is the first Assassin’s Creed game to introduce a multiplayer layer that allows you to embody an assassin of your choosing — from among 16 different character classes, each with their own distinct weapons, moves, and abilities. Assassin’s Creed RevelationsIn Assassin’s Creed Revelations, master assassin Ezio Auditore walks in the footsteps of the legendary mentor Altair, on a journey of discovery and revelation. It is a perilous path — one that will take Ezio to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where a growing army of Templars threatens to destabilize the region. In addition to Ezio’s award-winning story, a refined and expanded online multiplayer experience returns with more modes, more maps, and more characters, allowing you to test your assassin skills against others from around the world. Assassin’s Creed IIIThe American Colonies, 1775 — it’s a time of civil unrest and political upheaval in the Americas. As a Native American Assassin fights to protect his land and his people, he will ignite the flames of a young nation’s revolution. In Assassin’s Creed III, you will be challenged to eliminate your enemies with an array of new weapons including guns, bows, tomahawks, and trusty hidden blades. We’re very excited to add these five blockbuster Assassin’s Creed games to our ever-expanding library of PlayStation Now games. Click here to start your 7-Day Free Trial and experience games like never before! Thanks! View the full article

Hey PlayStation.Blog readers! Along with independent developer Dlala Studios, we’re excited to announce that their 2D multiplayer brawler, Overruled!, is heading to PS4 on September 15th. Choose from a diverse cast of 9 characters and challenge friends to a battle with both local and online multiplayer for up to 4 players. All you have to do to win is score the most points by the end of the game. But the rules are yours to play with, and with more than 30 dynamic change ’em up cards that can directly change the gameplay, you’ll never know how the battle will go! Don’t incite the enemy as they are the master of your fate. You could be playing Headhunter now, but one of your rivals might decide to change it to Swag Bag. Or King of the Hill. Or Fire Tag. This week we had the chance to celebrate two important video game milestones. September 9th, 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of PlayStation in North America. It also marked one year since Destiny first launched on our platform. I had the chance to celebrate these two events on a livestream earlier this week with our friends from Bungie, where we unboxed the gorgeous Limited Edition Destiny: The Taken King PlayStation 4 Bundle and played through our PlayStation exclusive* Strike, Echo Chamber (where I failed the boss battle in an epic manner). Did you miss Wednesday’s stream? We’ve got you covered! Watch the archive from our Twitch livestream here. Huge thanks to Bungie community manager extraordinaire (and Fireteam carry) DeeJ and lead designer James Tsai for joining us. With their help, I now feel prepared to take on Oryx when Destiny: The Taken King launches on September 15th. I’m thrilled to kick off the next chapter of Destiny. We’ll have a ton of great content only available on the PlayStation platform including a co-op strike for you and your Fireteam, new crucible map, and sweet Legendary and Exotic gear. Can’t wait to embark on your next great Destiny adventure? Join me and the rest of the crew at PlayStation this weekend and treat yourself to new PVP maps and modes as part of the pre-launch Crucible Preview Event. *Timed exclusive until at least Fall 2016. Freemode Events in Grand Theft Auto Online are a new advancement in open world gameplay, giving players access to a range of seamlessly integrated games and challenges in GTA Online’s Freemode. Taking full advantage of PS4, there are no menus, lobbies, or load times — just an open Freemode session filled with Friends, Crewmates, rivals, and randoms where spontaneous and chaotic new games and challenges will appear. At any given moment while in Freemode, one of these events may kick off and you can tailor and customize your session to decide exactly which ones you want to occur so you can play as much or as little of this new content as you like. With countless variations on each Freemode Event, there are tons of unique new experiences each offering new opportunities for reaping GTA$ and RP in GTA Online. Feeling locked and stocked? Look out for King of the Castle — an every-man-for-himself turf war where you’ll need to ascend and claim the designated “castle†as your territory — and then fend off everyone else as they go all out to dethrone you. Form fragile alliances and work together in modes like Hunt the Beast, where one volunteer is temporarily transformed into a faster, stronger, beastly character who must escape relentless pursuers. Freemode Events also take the shape of insane stunt challenges, such as popping the longest wheelie, catching the most air in a land vehicle, or performing the most near misses in a vehicle without crashing. Also included with next week’s update are two brand new Adversary Modes. First, Hunting Pack: you’re part of a team tasked to deliver a priority vehicle rigged to explode if it drops below a minimum speed, while your opponents race, ram, and batter to take it down. Or try Cross the Line, where heavily-armed squads face off across a neutral zone — with the goal of having all team members strategically penetrate their opponents territory to claim victory. The Freemode Events Update also brings the Rockstar Editor to PlayStation with new features such as an ambient audio and sound effects library, Snapmatic integration, Director Mode updates, and more. For more info, visit the Rockstar Games Newswire. View the full article

Good day, fellow video game enthusiasts. I’m Alex Neuse, Project Lead on Laserlife. I’m here today to talk to you about our latest project, which has been a long time coming. That’s right, we finally got off our keisterbunnies and decided to make that high-concept-dead-astronaut-music-biography-game that we announced at IndieCade in 2010! Laserlife is finally here. What are we Dealing with Here?Laserlife is an interactive biography about a dead astronaut floating through deep space who is discovered by future intelligences who have no concept of humankind. These deep space explorers, who we are leaving up to your imagination, have technology that is capable of extracting the physical elements of memory. As they themselves have no memory or knowledge of humanity, they extract the astronaut’s memory fragments to learn about their strange discovery. Why is the astronaut here? Why is it alone? Why is it dead? It’s your job, representing these entities, to piece together the astronaut’s memories so that you can gain an understanding of what it is. And you do this with lasers. To the beat of the music. What are We Getting Out of the Experience? In case you weren’t sure, Laserlife is the latest rhythm/music game created by the studio that brought you BIT.TRIP and CommanderVideo. Mike Roush (the other Choice Provisions Co-Founder) and I are fascinated by what makes a human a human. What makes us whole, and are we simply the sum of our accomplishments, or are we more? While we touched on this a little in our BIT.TRIP series, the primary focus of those games was to create retro-difficult, super abstract rhythm/music games for the sake of incredible gameplay — and broken controllers. And swear words. Our intention with Laserlife was to create a rhythm/music game that was accessible to everyone (If switched to Easy Difficulty, even my mom* should be able to complete it). Laserlife is an experience that’s meant to be played through in one sitting. It’s an exploration, largely through symbolism, of what it means to be a human. By the end of the game, you will have unlocked several key memories of the astronaut’s life, allowing you to review their existence, as if looking at a portrait. By the end, you should feel as if you know this astronaut. And your knowing holds value in the knowing itself. Go grab Laserlife, turn down the lights, turn up the audio, and remember what it means to be a human. Also, feel free to plop some comments down below, and we’ll do our best to reply to each and every one; some multiple times. *My mom actually beat BIT.TRIP BEAT. True story. I have no idea how she did that. View the full article

Hello everyone. I’m really happy to be back on PlayStation.Blog to tell you that Laughing Jackal’s firefighting action Roguelike, Flame Over, is finally making the jump to PS4 and will be available on Tuesday next week. Yay! So, for those who haven’t tried, or don’t remember the PS Vita version, Flame Over is a top-down shoot ’em up firefighting game featuring 16 randomly generated levels, four environments, stacks of secrets, and a ton of replayability. Unlike other shoot ’em ups, you’ll be using hoses, extinguishers, and waterbombs (plus a ton of power-ups you’ll grab along the way) as you struggle to take down the toughest fires ever seen in a video game. And believe me when I say these fires. Are. Tough. As a game inspired by the roguelikes of old, as well as more modern interpretations like Spelunky, Flame Over is a brutally difficult game, but one in which you’ll learn as you go, getting a little further each time and inspiring you over and over again to try one last time (Honest!) to make it the whole way through, rescuing all the people and cats trapped within and maybe even speed-running your way to the top of the Leaderboards! As you’d expect, the PS4 version of Flame Over boasts a ton of improvements over the PS Vita original, including: Amazing graphicalness: you’ll be blown away by the amount of detail in our 3D environments, which really get to shine on the big screen, plus we’ve thrown in lots of sexy touches like bloom, real time shadows, and all that jazz. The game also loads near-instantly and is full 1080p 60fps. Interactive tutorial: we’ve made a training-friendly tutorial where you can play through two levels of the game fully powered up, getting to test out lots of the game’s extra equipment and power-ups in a slightly less dangerous environment. This is firefighting, however, so you’ll still need to be on your toes if you don’t want to fry! Even more extra stuffs: the PS4 version of Flame Over features additional rooms, secrets and mechanics to make it the ultimate version of the game. For those of you who are up for a challenge and a lot of laughs (And tears!) along the way, be sure to check out Flame Over next Tuesday. Look forward to seeing you on the Leaderboards! You can find out lots more about Flame Over by visiting the official website, and can come and check out the Laughing Jackal website, Twitter, and Facebook pages to keep up to date on the game. Thanks for reading and hope to see you heading into the fire next week! View the full article
