  1. Happy birthday PS4! It’s been a heck of a year… and we’re just getting started. If you didn’t catch it yesterday, read a special birthday note from SCEA President & CEO Shawn Layden. But yeah, we announced over a dozen new games this week. Lots of them will be playable at PlayStation Experience, too! I hope we’ll see you there ~ We just announced two $399.99 Black Friday PS4 bundles — get a PS4 with GTA V and The Last of Us Remastered, or get one with LittleBigPlanet 3 and LEGO Batman 3. Not a bad deal if you’re still looking for one, or know someone who is! A few more highlights from this week: Mass Effect 2, Mirror’s Edge and more are coming to PS Now, Bloodborne launches in March, Ryan went hands-on with Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- (which I can’t wait to get my own mitts on), Geometry Wars 3 is out on November 25th, Spelunky got some fancy new updates on PS4, PS3 and Vita, Retro City Rampage DX is out now, and lots more! Of course, Tuesday sees the release of some of the year’s biggest titles: Grand Theft Auto V, LittleBigPlanet 3, Far Cry 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition… not to mention a couple I’m personally looking forward to: Never Alone and Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd. 3. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and with it comes the excitement of impending Black Friday deals on the hottest gifts of the holiday season. Ever since its launch one year ago, PlayStation 4 has been the number one console, and today I’m pleased to officially announce two Black Friday PS4 bundles featuring some of the biggest games of the year for gamers in the United States and Canada. The first bundle is the Grand Theft Auto V PS4 Black Friday Bundle featuring a 500GB PS4 and a copy of Grand Theft Auto V, as well as a digital download voucher for The Last of Us Remastered — all for just $399.99 USD/$449.99 CAD. Get a brand new PS4 just in time for the holidays with this epic bundle! The critically acclaimed open world, Grand Theft Auto V, comes to PlayStation 4 with a host of technical upgrades and enhancements including enhanced resolution, greater draw distances, new wildlife, vehicles and weapons, and a brand new seamlessly integrated first-person mode. Good news for all those who have already spent countless hours exploring everything Grand Theft Auto Online has to offer on PS3 or Xbox 360 — with Grand Theft Auto V on PS4, you can transfer your existing GTA Online characters and progress to your PS4 so you don’t have to start over. And if you are making your return to Los Santos and Blaine County on PS4, you’ll also get access to exclusive vehicles, weapons, collectibles and more. This bundle also provides the perfect opportunity to play The Last of Us Remastered — the definitive version of the game that won over 200 game of the year awards — featuring enhanced visuals and loads of additional content. Our second Black Friday bundle features a 500GB PS4, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and LittleBigPlanet 3 — all for just $399.99 USD/$449.99 CAD. Pack your space suit and join LEGO Batman on an out-of-this-world adventure as the Caped Crusader joins forces with the super heroes of the DC Comics Universe and blasts off to outer space to stop the evil Brainiac from destroying Earth. And in LittleBigPlanet 3, you can explore a world filled with limitless imagination as Sackboy and his new cast of friends — OddSock, Swoop and Toggle. Make sure you mark your calendars for Black Friday, because these bundles won’t last long. Check your local retailer and pick them up while supplies last to get the ultimate deal on PS4! 4. Klaus is a narrative driven, 2D puzzle-platformer that provides a non linear, self-aware experience while striving towards a fluid gameplay that allows the player to control two characters as well as the environment. Together, Klaus will be an immersive gameplay experience on PS4 and PS Vita in the second quarter of 2015. Klaus wakes up in a mechanical prison with complete amnesia: he doesn’t remember who he is or how he got there. His only clue is the word KLAUS tattooed on his arm. This mystery will develop through the narrative, as Klaus meets other characters (both friendly and hostile) and discovers clues littered throughout the environment. Through exploration, the player will piece together his past and the realities of the enigmatic world he finds himself stuck in. Along the way, Klaus will meet K1, a friendly brute damaged by prolonged imprisonment. With Klaus’ hacking ability, and K1′s propensity to smash, our two protagonists will have to work together to reach the end of their existential journey. The cooperation won’t end there; the two characters will have to work together to overcome obstacles. We plan to also have a co-op mode through local multiplayer, which will add another dimension to the already tight gameplay. Klaus will feature an interactive environment. The player will be able to move and rotate objects such as jump pads, platforms, spikes, and others by using the unique touch features of both the PS4 and PS Vita. The touch mechanic will represent a major gameplay element that will allow the player to traverse the environment in more ways than one. Another key aspect of the gameplay is when Klaus becomes aware of the player, and breaks the fourth wall by doing the opposite of the actions of the player, putting most faith in his own free will. Klaus is being showcased at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas this December, where a playable demo exclusively will be made available on both the PS4 and PS Vita. We look forward to all your feedback and opinions once you play this exclusive demo, and to seeing you guys there and sharing Klaus with you. View the full article
  5. Dragon Age: Inquisition is a huge game with vast lands to explore and many things to do. In fact, on my personal completionist playthrough, I logged 20 hours of game time discovering the world of Thedas before even completing the first major quest in the game! Yes, Inquisition is indeed massive. It is also a game about choice, where the decisions you make will shape the world. As the Inquisitor, you lead the most influential force in all of Thedas. People will place their hope in you and turn to you to do what’s best to stop the threat that is destroying the world. Of course, perhaps the most important decision you’ll make is determining what type of Inquisitor you will create. Will you be male or female? Will you be human, elf, dwarf, or Qunari? Which class will you play as? Once you’ve created your Inquisitor and are ready to begin the adventure, you’re going to encounter some nasty enemies. As a matter of fact, you’ll be facing off against your first demon in the opening moments of the game. This is another opportunity to showcase how choice shapes your experience with the game. Inquisition offers two different modes of combat: real-time and tactical. If you’re the type of player who likes to get up close and personal with your enemies, real-time combat allows you to run in with swords a-blazin’ (literally, if you’re using the Flames of the Inquisition weapons pack!). If you prefer to go the more strategic route and survey the battlefield before engaging, tactical mode is sure to be of interest. In this mode, you can pause the game and use the Tactical Camera view to scout your enemies and issue commands to your party. You can stop and start time at your leisure, so if one strategy didn’t work, you can regroup and try something else. The Inquisition is nearly upon us. Lead them or fall. View the full article
  6. The Devolver Digital team is packing our best suits, most expensive hair gel, and the best PlayStation games ever in preparation for this year’s inaugural PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas! We can’t wait to share all the amazing games our beloved developers have been working on and hang out with the PlayStation community. Below is a look at the hotness we’ll be bringing to the party and the odds in Vegas of the game being awesome. Unannounced (But Soon to Be Announced) Game Let’s start things off with a little mystery, shall we? Devolver Digital and a wonderful new indie developer will be unveiling their studio and debut game at PlayStation Experience this year. While we can’t tell you much about it yet, we can say that it will be coming to PS4 and have the absolute cutest shotgun shells you’ve ever seen. Las Vegas Odds on It Being Awesome: 2 to 1 The Talos Principle The Talos Principle is a philosophical first-person puzzle game from Croteam, the creators of the legendary Serious Sam games, written by Tom Jubert (FTL, The Swapper) and Jonas Kyratzes (The Sea Will Claim Everything). As if awakening from a deep sleep, you find yourself in a strange, contradictory world of ancient ruins and advanced technology. Tasked by your creator with solving a series of increasingly complex puzzles, you must decide whether to have faith or to ask the difficult questions: Who are you? What is your purpose? And what are you going to do about it? The Talos Principle will be playable on PS4 all weekend and will arrive via PlayStation Store in early 2015. Las Vegas Odds on It Being Awesome: 1 to 1 Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number The follow up to everyone’s favorite top-down kill ‘em up, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is set to release in early 2015 with more intense action and face melting music than your PS4 or PS Vita can be expected to handle. Come on by the Devolver Digital booth to try your hand at the latest demo and prepare yourself for the pain of repeated failure. And grab the original Hotline Miami on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita to see what all the fuss is about. Las Vegas Odds on It Being Awesome: 2.5 to 1 Broforce BROOOOOOOFOOOOOOORCE! Come Bro-down at the Devolver Digital booth with the most explosioniest game at PlayStation Experience. Brace your loins with up to four players to run ‘n’ gun as dozens of different bros and eliminate the opposing terrorist forces that threaten our way of life. Unleash scores of unique weapons and set off incredible chain reactions of fire, napalm, and limbs in the name of freedom. Broforce will be playable on PS4 all weekend so bring your bros and prep for the game’s launch on PS4 in 2015! Las Vegas Odds on It Being Awesome: BRO to 1 Shadow Warrior Shadow Warrior is a bold reimagining of the classic 3D Realms’ shooter from independent developer Flying Wild Hog, starring the legendary and quick-witted warrior Lo Wang. Combine the brute force of overwhelming firepower with the elegant precision of a katana to annihilate the merciless armies of the shadow realm in an exhilarating and visually stunning transformation of the classic first-person shooter. Shadow Warrior is available now on PS4. Las Vegas Odds on It Being Awesome: 1.5 to 1 Not a Hero Those lovable scamps at Roll7 — the developer behind OlliOlli — are finishing up work on their not really politically charged, cover-based shooter Not A Hero for PS4 and PS Vita. But you can get your dirty little hands on it first at PlayStation Experience and then go back home and brag to your friends. But seriously, you’ll be choosing between a few totally unique heroes to help clean up the city in an absurdly violent way all so an anthropomorphic rabbit from the future can win an election to become mayor. There are ninjas, and helicopters, and birds with explosives strapped to their back. Las Vegas Odds on It Being Awesome: ALL BETS ARE OFF Titan Souls Between our world and the world beyond lie the Titan Souls, the spiritual source and sum of all living things. Now scattered amongst the ruins and guarded by the idle titans charged with their care, a solitary hero armed with but a single arrow is once again assembling shards of the Titan Soul in a quest for truth and power. But all that fancy marketing language won’t matter when you have some colossal monster bringing hell down on you as you frantically aim your single, solitary arrow at its one weak spot. Titan Souls will be drinking your tears on PS4 during the whole event and, if you can stomach the fight, will be out on PS4 and PS Vita early next year. 8. Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- for PS4 feels like high school. And that, surprisingly, is high praise. I obsessed over Guilty Gear X when it launched on PS2. My friends and I picked apart every fighter on the roster, experimented with particular match-ups, rocked out to the soundtrack for hours, and even developed inside jokes based on the fighter intro quips. And with Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, the team at ARC System Works is plugging a high-voltage generator into the series and flipping the switch with a smirk. The latest Guilty Gear, which hits PS4 and PS3 on December 16th, embraces everything about the series’ roots while reworking every visual component on screen. Even after spending time with an early build of the PS4 version, Xrd -Sign- is a flood of great memories. If you’re new to the series, Guilty Gear is a highly stylized 2D fighter with one of the most eccentric rosters to ever grace a fighting game. Do you want a charming vampire boxer? How about a pirate girl with dolphins for weapons? Or perhaps a tall, repenting surgeon with a bag over his head and a giant scalpel in hand? Yes, series favorites like Slayer, May and Faust return in Xrd -Sign- — many sporting a new look. ARC System Works has fused 2D and 3D art styles together, allowing for a jaw-dropping switch between each perspective at key moments. Intros and outros use stunning 3D models, but when the duel begins the models appear as high-resolution, 2D sprites. It’s a marriage of two drastically different visual styles, and it looks excellent. And fortunately for fighting enthusiasts, it plays well, too. Xrd -Sign- is as fast and frantic as you would expect from ARC System Works, with heart-pounding battles that litter the screen with effects, fire blasts, and the occasional bullet shell. True to Guilty Gear’s legacy, each fighter has a punch, kick, slash, and heavy slash, as well as a bevy of special moves that can close gaps, push/pull opponents, and generally control the spaces around the fighters. Even with my antiquated knowledge of Guilty Gear, Sol’s and Ky’s movesets came rushing back to me without a hitch — the fighters even have a few new tricks up their tightly-buckled sleeves. If you want to familiarize yourself with the basics, Xrd -Sign- comes packed with dozens of tutorials and training options to help you get a feel for the basics, and also push your knowledge of each fighter further. Besides its basic versus modes, Xrd -Sign- features an arcade mode, story mode, and loads of other challenges and unlockables (Including a gallery!). ARC System Works is filling out Xrd -Sign- with lots to do outside of traditional fights. Even without the full roster unlocked, I spent a long while just getting reacquainted with the fighting systems that Guilty Gear has used for so many years, from Faultless Defense to Roman Cancels. These systems encourage players to stay aggressive and flow between offense and defense with almost staggering quickness. Xrd -Sign- is aimed squarely at those long-time fans that have followed Guilty Gear for years. It’s a fiery, rock ‘n’ roll reboot for the series, and a screaming reminder that Sol Badguy is still a total badass. View the full article

  10. We’re thrilled to announce that, in just a few short days, Escape Dead Island will make landfall on PS3! Escape Dead Island is a single-player, survival-mystery game set in the blockbuster Dead Island universe. Escape turns the world upside-down, exposing an underbelly of mysteries and secrecy around the undead virus. What caused the Banoi outbreak? How is the world reacting? Who really has the most to lose… or win… as it spreads? These questions have been burning in both the Dead Island community and in the mind of Escape’s protagonist Cliff Calo. Now it’s time for some answers. Cliff, a slacking journalism student out to prove himself to his executive father, sets sail with a few friends to cut through a naval quarantine and find out what really happened on Banoi. If they can get the truth out to the world, they’ll be heroes. But nothing in Escape Dead Island is quite what it seems, and Cliff’s team ends up on an island with far more to hide than they expected. While exploring and dealing with the island’s threats, you’ll be photographing evidence and gathering clues to unravel what’s been going on in this increasingly strange place. As the pieces begin coming together, the world starts shifting under Cliff’s feet. Even time itself may work differently here. What is real on this island? It’ll be up to you, the player, to ultimately decide. But regardless of which truths you choose to believe, Escape will offer up tantalizing glimpses of Dead Island’s origins and foreshadow the future of Dead Island 2. You can pre-order at GameStop today to get guaranteed access to the Dead Island 2 beta next year. You can start uncovering the truth in Escape Dead Island on November 18th! We can’t wait to hear what you discover. View the full article
  11. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is a return to an exciting series that some of us at Lucid Games last worked on nearly half a decade ago whilst at Bizarre Creations. This new installment takes the core twin-stick shooter fundamentals developed in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved and its sequel, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, and boldly takes them further with the addition of 50 new challenges in a single-player campaign, three-dimensional arenas, new game modes, boss battles, intense power-ups and much more, providing you loads of variety as you battle to top your friends in the leaderboards. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is not only about beating your friend’s scores; you can also play together in 8 player competitive online and 4 player local co-operative multiplayer with friends and rivals. It’s also the first time PlayStation console owners can dive into this franchise with over ten years of arcade-fueled history and enthusiasm behind it. If this is your introduction to the series, then let me sum it up like this – Geometry Wars is electrifying. Screen-melting visuals, fast-paced, bright, and boisterous gameplay, astronomical high scores, bass-thumping, heart-pumping music, and a vibrant energy that can transcend you to pure Zen-like state as you feel totally absorbed into the game. This latest entry in the franchise may look different from its predecessors, but those defining characteristics are still infused into every moment of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions. We’ve designed two special stages for Dimensions that will be available on PlayStation. The first – “Symbolic†– is exclusive to PlayStation and features enemies that spawn in clusters shaped like the face buttons of the DualShock controller. “Symbolic†will be playable for any PlayStation user who buys the game at any time. But if you pre-order the game before release, you can also pick up our second challenge, “Secret Eye,†which features a distinctive triangle-shaped grid and an evolving inner core that forces you to make split second decisions to camp in one of the three corners and confront the enemies, or to skillfully navigate past to escape the onslaught. We know from personal experience as PlayStation players that the PS community is one that just gets the twin-stick shooter genre – it gives us a lot to live up to, and we’re excited to finally have something of our own to share with all of you. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions makes its PlayStation debut on November 25th for both PS4 and PS3, and you can pre-order on PSN here. Questions? Comments? Pontifications? We’ll be keeping an eye on the space below with some answers wherever we can provide them. And you’ll definitely be hearing more from us within the next few weeks. Thanks! View the full article
  12. Are you headed to Las Vegas for the PlayStation Experience Event in December? Telltale will be there too! First up, there’s a special Telltale Games panel where we’ll be discussing the past, present, and future of Telltale and adventure games. Here’s the great thing about this panel though: since our games are all about making choices and then living with the consequences, YOU’LL get to choose the questions. Take this opportunity to grill our brave little band of panelists about the Telltale-y stuff you’ve always wanted to know! It’s not all talk though – we’ll have games for you to play too. Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series will BOTH be playable on the show floor. You’ll find them in Sony’s booth, so be sure to check them out amongst all the other awesomeness! Speaking of our upcoming releases, don’t miss the shiny new Tales from the Borderlands trailer we just released this morning! I think this is easily the most amusing video we’ve ever had the fun of producing. Seriously, get this into your eyeballs and… uh, earholes (yeah, that sentence got away from me a bit). Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series has things going on this week as well. Saying too much right now might spoil the fun, but if you’re fairly well-traveled on gaming sites, keep an eye out for a few clues scattered around the internet… Thanks for reading, and as ever, let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Hope to see you in Vegas! View the full article
  13. We recently launched the official Naughty Dog Shop and highlighted two of the cooler items we’ve developed so far. The next product design we’re really proud to show off is the The Last of Us Clicker Bust from PlayStation Collectibles. She’s a beauty, right? Hand sculpted by Emmy Award nominated Hollywood VFX artist, Vincent Van Dyke, there was a lot of care that went into the design of this collectible. It’s limited to only 1,500 units. The bust is available for pre-sale now on the shop for $150. We currently ship to North America and Canada and are working on other regions. More products and product highlights will be shown on the Naughty Dog blog and around our various social channels over the next few weeks. Look for new merch and special discounts online soon. If you find something you love share it with use by using #NDShop. Visit the official Naughty Dog Shop often for the latest. Reminder: the holidays are approaching fast! View the full article
  14. So, we’re indie developers. By and large, indie folk don’t really do “story†the same way larger developers do… it’s usually more minimalistic, and for lack of a better word, “artsyâ€. Which is cool! There’s space in the gaming sphere for everything, even whatever Suda 51’s up to these days. Still, we don’t think “indie†and “complex narrative with well-developed characters and realistic dialogue†are mutually exclusive. The voice command gameplay of There Came an Echo and its script were developed in conjunction with one another — the story is an integral part of the experience, not something tacked on after the fact. The four members of your squadron aren’t mindless military drones, but real people with imperfections, desires, and fears. And snark. They’re pretty snarky. And voice acting. If you’ve got voice acting, it better be good, or it’s going to completely ruin the experience. Luckily, we’re located in Hollywood, and we happen to know some people who are very good at saying things we tell them to say into a microphone. Corrin and Val, our two leads, are played by Wil Wheaton (yes, that Wil Wheaton) and Ashly Burch. Alongside them are some of gaming’s finest working voice actors: Laura Bailey, Yuri Lowenthal, Cassandra Lee Morris, Rachel Robinson, and Cindy Robinson. It might be the best voice cast in indie games, period… but we’ll let you decide. There’s a trailer up there; you’ve probably watched it. (Seriously, though, watch it.) Corrin Webb is a cryptographer at a defense company in Santa Monica, California, when the mysterious Val alerts him to some very scary-looking men heading up to his office. In a scene that we admit is totally the opening of The Matrix (except you’re acting as Morpheus, giving voice commands to Corrin and leading him safely from the building), Corrin escapes and begins a very reluctant mission to figure out who’s after him, and why. He eventually meets up with the recalcitrant Miranda, and wildly bloodthirsty Grace, and a man named Syll, whose past is very clearly wrapped up in the proceedings. The plot heads to some very hard science fiction and insane plot swerves, so we hope you like twisty! You can skip a lot of the cutscenes, but we have no idea why you would. You’ve got comments, we’ve got mildly sarcastic responses. Let us know what you think! View the full article
  15. Hello PlayStation Nation! The Bone Wagon is headed to Las Vegas! We’ve got a shiny new build of Grim Fandango Remastered and we’re bringing it to PlayStation Experience! This is your last chance to get your hands on Manny before the game is released, so please come to the Double Fine booth and check it out. I’ll be there too, loitering around, signing stuff, talking about the old days, and giving out free hugs. REMASTERED hugs. Also, we’ll be showing the game running for the very first time on PS Vita! It’s a great way to play the game, and a beautiful little handful of bones. I’m not sure what that last phrase means, but it sounds poetic so I’m going to leave it in. And hopefully there will be even more surprises once you get there! So come see Manny Calavera in the flesh! (In the bones? Well, you know what I mean.) See you there, and… ¡Viva la Revolución! 16. It is the year 1999. It is the future. After years of intergalactic battles, technology gave birth to advanced, galaxy-capturing capsules — tools that Earth’s World Leaders readily supplied to their intergalactic forces. But many of these forces have gone rogue and are now fighting amongst themselves for these powerful orbs. Greetings, Playstation.Blog readers! We are excited to announce our newest game, Capsule Force, a retro anime-inspired, multiplayer, arcade experience for PS4! klobit’s core team is comprised of two main members from Austin, Texas — a sound designer/composer, and a tall man who designs, codes, and creates art. We were fortunate enough to have a talented artist help with character art and design. As fans of retro Japanese games and anime, we really wanted to share our love of the days of cassette tapes and CRT televisions by pulling inspiration from both 80′s space anime aesthetics and the fast-paced nature of arcade games. From energy beams, levitating characters, environment design, and music, we wanted to capture that 80′s, retro feeling and adapt that essence in a way that could translate within a 16-bit arcade era (but with touches that were also unique to our vision!). Thus, Capsule Force was born! Join the blue team and pink team to battle it out across 8 different arenas. The gameplay is simple enough — destroy your opponent, ride the tram to advance to the final screen, and grab that capsule! But watch out! The path to your enemy’s base is riddled with traps. Whether you battle 1v1 or join the chaos of a 2v2 match, there is bound to be plenty of yelling like school kids. Dare to impress? Show off your skills or hone in on battle tactics with single-player mission mode. There are more than 30 missions to choose from! Blast through targets, dodge a variety of traps, and race against the clock to unlock levels and features. Our team at klobit is incredibly excited to publish our first console game and to be able to join the PlayStation family. Thank you for all of your support, and keep an eye out for Capsule Force in early 2015. Come join us and battle it out on December 6th and 7th at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas! THE GALAXY IS IN YOUR HANDS! View the full article
  17. Hello, PlayStation nation! My name is Vilas and I’m the lead programmer at Candescent Games. Together with Section Studios, we’re thrilled to announce that Tinertia is headed to PS4. Tinertia is a hardcore platformer without a jump button. “What? No jump button,†you ask? Well, instead of a plain old jump button, we give you a rocket launcher with infinite ammo! If you like rocket jumping and physics, you’re in for a treat! Our goal with Tinertia is to create a truly new platforming experience. The platformer is the grandaddy of game genres, so to create something unique we tackled its core mechanic; the jump button. If you’re like us, you have at some point rocket jumped around Quake, Unreal, or Team Fortress. It’s a fun and exhilarating experience due to its imprecision and randomness through physics. However, when mastered, it becomes a fast and precise way to traverse a map. With rocket jumping as the basis for movement, we created a twin stick platformer. You use the left stick to walk and the right stick to shoot in any direction. Tinertia’s design pillars are depth and mastery. The game worlds are crafted to be challenging, yet they have lots of room for competition through speed and clever use of rockets. As you play through the game you’ll learn to connect your rocket jumps and leverage momentum to go faster. Your speed is only limited by your mad skillz! Expect intense moments and sweaty controllers as you fly through the environments and take on giant robot bosses. Tinertia is a 2.5D platformer. The levels in each world are physically connected to one another and wrap around like mazes. To realize the art of Tinertia we’ve partnered with Section Studios. Section leads the art direction and executes the visual aesthetic of the world. Together we’re working hard to wrap up development and bring the game to PlayStation. In the meantime, there’s no better way to experience Tinertia than to pick up a controller and shoot rockets. Tinertia will be playable at PlayStation Experience this December. Drop by our booth and say hi. We plan to launch Tinertia on PlayStation Store for PS4 in the second half of 2015. Feel free to ask questions in the comments section below. View the full article
  18. We cannot believe it has already been a year since Zombie Studios launched the Blacklight: Retribution Beta on PS4 alongside the launch of PS4 in November 2013 as one of the first free to play titles on PS4. Players jumped in excited to know what the game was all about and eager to give us feedback. We took that feedback and built it into the June release that ended beta. We wanted to come out of beta strong, and turned our attention to new content and released a flurry of new maps, weapons, gear, and even a hard suit. I could keep talking about what we’ve done, but I know what you really want to hear is what’s coming next — so I’ll get back to our release history after. Coming UpIn our next release (Patch 2.07) we have re-worked the party system to further the goal of making sure it takes as few steps as possible before you are playing with your friends. Our players have let us know it is important and we have made it a priority to bring it to you. Following Patch 2.07 will be the “Icestorm†(Patch 2.08) update which we are announcing for the first time here. In Icestorm, a Valkyrie class transport has crashed in a remote and frozen part of the world while carrying an armament shipment that must be retrieved before it falls into the wrong hands. This update will include a new map, weapons and other items focused around survival while battling in a frozen barren wasteland. With Icestorm we want to do something different, it will be the first of our larger content updates. We are building an entire content update around a single unified theme and scaling up the size of the update. We are all gamers here at Zombie and we want to let our team loose to create content they are excited about sharing with their fellow gamers. We want to reshape how we develop content for you, and Icestorm is our first step towards that goal. A Look BackIn my first draft of this post I listed out everything we did and it just got kind of silly. If you have been away from BLR for a while, login and check out all the new stuff. To keep this from turning into a novel, here are the highlights: Our first major map release post beta was “Outpost.†Set in a remote part of the world, Outpost is a place where the local populace has huddled together in a slum built on the crumbling corpse of an old radar outpost. The map was built around what we know players like best about BLR. Tight quarters with fierce combat with just enough space that a seasoned sniper can set up and do some work. The whole package came together as a fast paced map we are proud of. Hot on the heels of Outpost came “Convoy,†set in the rabbit warrens that are the urban streets of BLR’s cities. An armored convoy has been ambushed while in transit through the heart of major urban center. The armor had nowhere to go but forward or backward so a fight was inevitable. The map features long sight lines broken by side streets, alleys, and a small park. Next came the Gunman hard suit, the foil to our original iconic “Rhino†hard suit. The Rhino is a slow armored beast weighed down by its massive fire power and we like it that way, but we felt it needed a counterpart — something to balance out the equation. We built the Gunman to terrorize its opponents as a highly mobile but vulnerable weapons platform. A Gift for Players New and OldZombie wants to thank our players for supporting Blacklight: Retribution and our studio. To do that we have come up with a 1 year anniversary gift for everyone. Below is a code for everyone to redeem on the main menu of BLR on your PS4. XCLMNDBNLFIFMBBK Once redeemed you will receive: 1 free permanent weapon receiver 1 free 30 day hero skin. In addition, all players who log in between 11/13/2014 and 12/15/2014 will receive an anniversary title “Original Gamer.†Keep in touch with Zombie! 19. I’m pleased to announce a partnership with EA to bring their games to PlayStation Now, including some of their biggest hits like Mass Effect 2, Mirror’s Edge, and Dead Space 3. Starting December 2nd, you’ll be able to stream the following games from EA through PS Now. Each of these games can be rented for a week for about $1 / day, though you’ll be able to select from a variety of options depending on how long you’d like to rent the game. Mirror’s Edge Mass Effect 2 Dead Space 3 NBA Jam On Fire Edition Bejeweled 3 If you’ve missed out on playing these great games, or just want to revisit favorites, PS Now gives you an easy way to access them. With our streaming technology you can quickly jump into the game right after you rent it — no need to wait for downloads, installs, or patches. And with automatic cloud game saves, you can start playing on one device and continue playing on another. Since we entered the Open Beta for PS Now back in July, the service has grown quite a bit, as we now support five platforms — PS4, PS3, PS Vita, PS TV, and select Sony TV’s. Gamers have also collectively accrued over 100 years of streamed game time on PS Now. I’m excited to have EA join the great content library shaping up for PS Now, joining other major game publishers including Konami, Capcom, Square Enix, and Sega, and we’ll continue to add more. PlayStation Now is in Beta and we are still early on in the life of the service. We continue to listen to your feedback, and don’t forget — we’re also working on a subscription service for PS Now and hope to share details soon. View the full article
  20. Hi! I’m Brandon Sheffield, director of Necrosoft Games. We’ve made a couple small things before, like Gunhouse for PlayStation mobile, but today we want to talk about a much bigger game — Gunsport, which we’re bringing to PS4. This is our first PS4 game, and we’re pretty excited about it! 1080p pixel art! Heck yeah! Gunsport is a 2-on-2 (or 1-on-1) competitive eSport for discerning individuals who like: cool times, hot times, rough times, and dangerous times. It’s a cyberpunk vision of the neo future, like volleyball or sepak takraw with a shotgun and a laserbeam (and a bunch of other weapons, of course). Gunsport is all about keeping the ball in the air. The more times the ball passes the net the more points it’s worth, and the more dangerous it becomes to miss a shot. Shots are limited — the keeper, in the back, can’t move, but gets two shots in a full clip. The striker, in the front, can move and jump, but only gets one shot. Teams reload when the ball crosses the net toward them, but only then, so you have to economize your shots. Every time the ball crosses the net either direction it’s worth one additional point, so when you’ve got a 30 point volley going, and you’re playing to 60, well, the stakes get pretty high. Then there are the goals. If you get the ball into a goal, you get a bonus. Strikers can snipe it in, or Keepers can double-tap it in, shooting twice to change the ball’s direction. Or, if you’re truly drift compatible, you and your teammate can shoot the ball at the same time for a focus shot, causing the ball to go twice as fast. So it’s an eSport, yeah, but we think about it a bit like a fighting game. Rather than being reactive, you have to be predictive. The aiming is deliberately analog. It’s not immediate. You have to watch the angles and predict where the ball is going to be, rather than reacting to where it is now. You need to predict how long it will take your shot to reach the ball. You need to see where your partner is aiming, as well as whether your opponents have any shots left with which to vex you. You’ve got to take in the whole screen at the same time. Pay careful attention to your timing and positioning. All this action will take place across multiple stages (each of which has a different theme that changes the game) as you play with different teams (each of which has their own weapon loadout, and unique special attack). We are hoping that with the variety we’re offering, one of the teams will feel just right for your playing style, the way you might hone in on your preferred fighting game character. You might be asking, “but what about online multiplayer?†Well, that’s part of why we’re partnering with Iron Galaxy, the company that brought you Divekick. But let’s not forget they also brought Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online, Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, and Darkstalkers Resurrection to PS3. We’re going to be revealing more characters, weapons, special attacks, and stages as we continue development. It’s early days here, but we’re real excited about this one, and we hope you get the chance to play it real soon. We’re bringing our fully playable prototype build, which you can see screens of right here, to PlayStation Experience in December, so please come and give it a try! Gunsport will be released in 2015. Thanks y’all, and may your shots ring true and your aim always be steady! View the full article
  21. Hello there! I’m Mo, founder of Vertex Pop, a tiny independent video game studio based in Toronto, Canada. I’m really excited to introduce We Are Doomed, a twin-stick shooter where you zap polygon baddies with an insanely overpowered laserbeam. I want to tell you all about the core mechanics of the game, the unique visuals, and my plans to bring it to PS4 and PS Vita. And I’ll be showing We Are Doomed at PlayStation Experience next month, so please come by if you’re attending! The first thing you’ll notice is that the player is armed with a powerful but close-range laserbeam weapon. If you want to get anywhere in We Are Doomed, you need to dive right into the action. Hanging back and picking off baddies will simply not do. You’ll also want to charge your already overpowered laserbeam into a SUPERBEAM, which is when things get a little absurd. The SUPERBEAM is a brief triumph: a beam that goes all the way across the screen, zapping everything it touches in short order. You’ll want to make the most of your time with it. But remember to keep your cool, because you’re still vulnerable when using it. The entire game is built on a risk/reward mentality. Every mechanic is designed to make throwing yourself into danger and dashing across the arena to collect Trinkets (the purple cubes) pay off. It makes for a fast-paced game of constantly evaluating your options while maintaining composure. In this way, We Are Doomed is about feeling empowered and challenged, often at the same time. But just as important is experiencing the beautiful explosion of geometry, color and light. Let’s talk about that. We Are Doomed features a unique lo-fi aesthetic, with bold shapes, glitching geometry, and neon colors. This isn’t a throwback to the way games used to look, but an alternate reality scenario: what if texture-mapped, shader-calculated, photo-realistic graphics never happened? What if instead, flat shaded, vector-based graphics ruled the world? We Are Doomed explores these questions in gloriously colorful fashion. I’m really excited to bring We Are Doomed to PlayStation. It looks beautiful on the big screen (1080p and 60 frames per second, of course) and plays beautifully on DualShock 4. I’m committed to bringing the game to Vita as well, but that’ll take a little longer. I’m just one person, cut me some slack. The best part about PlayStation though, is the built-in community of gamers (That’s you!) who love a little friendly competition. I’m looking forward to seeing the leaderboards light up with unbelievable high scores. On that note, if you fancy yourself a pro shmup player and are coming to PlayStation Experience please come by my booth! I’d love to see how the game fares against your skills. Of course, if you just want to have a fun, neon-filled arcade experience, I’m equally eager to see you. We Are Doomed is coming to PS4 in early 2015, with the Vita following a little later. 22. Dear community, It is with regret that I must inform you that Bloodborne will be slightly delayed. While development continues unabated, we would like our team to deliver the best possible final experience. We were gratified by the feedback and data we received from those who participated in our limited Alpha test. The extra production time will also allow us to better integrate these learnings. Bloodborne is now set to launch in North America exclusively on PS4 on March 24th, 2015. Please look forward to some exciting Bloodborne news in early December. Thank you very much for your continued support. View the full article

  24. Hello! My name is Willy Chyr – I’m an artist and indie game developer based in Chicago. I’m happy to announce that my game Relativity will be coming to PS4 in 2015, and you will get to try it at PlayStation Experience next month in Las Vegas! Relativity is a game that re-imagines the laws of the universe. What if the normal rules of gravity no longer applied? The basic mechanic of the game is the ability to change gravity, allowing you to re-orient yourself to walk on walls and ceilings. In this world, up is down and down is up. It’s all relative. Let’s take a look at what an early puzzle in the game is like. In the gif below, we need to get the purple block to stay on the purple square in order to unlock a door, but the block keeps sliding down. The solution: we lock the blue block in place while in the blue gravity, and then use it as a shelf to hold up the purple block. What you just saw is the basic gameplay mechanic. But Relativity is more than just about stacking cubes – there is an entire world full of wonder and impossible architecture for you to explore. For example, because there is no up or down, the world of Relativity is a floating platform. So what happens when you fall off? Instead of fading the screen to black and re-spawning you, the world actually wraps around on itself, so you simply land back where you fell off from. This is just one of the many interesting elements that you’ll discover in Relativity. My goal is to create an experience that is both mind-bending and visually compelling. Each puzzle is carefully designed to challenge the player and be incredibly rewarding. I hope to see you at PlayStation Experience! If you want to be notified of Relativity’s release, keep an eye on PlayStation.Blog or sign up here. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments, and I’ll do my best to answer them. 25. Stranded after his ship is destroyed in deep space by a strange anomaly, Harrison, a lowly maintenance worker and our hero, must struggle to survive. It’s been a challenge defining Lost Orbit from the beginning. At its core, it’s a fast-paced action game, but there are flowing moments of serenity. It’s not unfair to describe it, as we often have, as a death simulator. It’s the union of three distinct elements: fast paced action, flowing cathartic flight, and death. In truth, the best way to describe it is to make up a new phrase: Lost Orbit is a “dodge ‘em up.†On SpeedOur pathetic hero, Harrison, must take matters into his own hands in order to find salvation quickly before he freezes, or starves to death in the depths of space. There is a lot of motivation in Lost Orbit to go fast. Not the least of which is that it’s fun. Lost Orbit presents you with simple to learn mechanics that, once mastered, will enable you to blaze through levels. Upgrading Harrison’s kit allows players to customize their play style, gaining new tools to handle the dangers of space. As your confidence grows, so does your willingness to fire Harrison between the tightest of gaps. Confronting your mortality and surrendering to the compulsion to blast through systems is extremely satisfying. And, when you cross the line into overconfidence, the harsh realities of space travel will rip you out of your little bubble. On DeathSpace travel is dangerous, and the universe of Lost Orbit is no exception. There is no baby proofing present. As a lone, ship-less astronaut, you are extremely vulnerable. Lost Orbit is challenging and you will die a lot, but we wanted to create an experience where players didn’t feel punished for dying. Dying in Lost Orbit happens quickly, is humorous, and is easy to recover from. Players can watch their mangled body float away while they shed tears over the loss of life, or respawn instantly, getting right back into the action. The game feels suspenseful without the dread of a frustrating five minute post-death cinematic. Risk it all for your chance at survival. After all, everyone has to die sometime. On FlowWhen you find yourself curled in the fetal position, clutching a pillow, and unable to cope with the loneliness and death of space travel, hope is not lost. Lost Orbit has a wealth of serene beauty to explore while you recover. Moments of reprieve will coax you out from under your blanket fort. When Alex and I worked with Vigil on Darksiders, we were surprised at how much fun we had just running around an empty room with the finished character: War. His movements and attacks had a lot of variety and weight to them. The same way a go-kart in a parking lot can be great fun, so too can the basic locomotion of a player character. We really tried to impart that level of refinement into Lost Orbit . There are plenty of moments for the player to take in the beauty of the game, and lazily float and dart their way through open space. It’s a good balance for the white-knuckle twitch-fest that is the meat of the game. Lost Orbit will be available on PS4 in early 2015. The game will be playable at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas, December 6th and 7th. If you have the chance, come see us, and die alone in space. View the full article
