July 30, 2007 CBS SportsLine.com staff and wire reports The Texas Rangers traded first baseman Mark Teixeira to the Atlanta Braves on Monday for a four-player package that includes hot catching prospect Jarrod Saltalamacchia, according to several reports including on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram website. In the six-player trade, Texas also shipped left-handed reliever Ron Mahay to Atlanta, which will send Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus, 19-year-old right-handed pitching prospect Nestali Feliz and another young arm to be named later, according to the Star-Telegram report. The deal will be complete after medical evaluations. Teixeira, an All-Star in 2005 on the way to hitting 43 home runs with 144 RBI and a .301 average after blasting 38 home runs the season before, has seen his power numbers dip the past two seasons. After a slow first half in 2006, the onetime first-round pick by the Rangers finished with 33 home runs, and has 13 in 78 games this season. Saltalamacchia has played 47 games for the Braves this season. The 22-year-old rookie catcher is hitting .284 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 141 at-bats. Third-place Atlanta trails the New York Mets by 4½ games in the NL East and is in the thick of the wild-card race. The Mets ended the Braves' streak of 14 straight division titles last year. The 27-year-old Teixeira would join a lineup that includes Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, Jeff Francoeur and All-Star Brian McCann, but he won't come cheaply. Teixeira, making $9 million this year, is eligible for salary arbitration after this season and can become a free agent after the 2008 season. He is certainly familiar with the Atlanta area, having starred at Georgia Tech.

July 30, 2007 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports BOSTON -- Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told the Associated Press on Monday. Among the players who could be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson, guard Sebastian Telfair, swingman Gerald Green and center Theo Ratliff, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been completed. The official also said the Timberwolves would get at least one draft choice. The teams still had some things to clarify with the players' contracts, but the official said that would not keep the Celtics from acquiring Garnett, although there could be a change in the players ticketed for the Timberwolves. There was a chance that a conference call announcing the trade would be held Monday, the official said. Garnett, 31, has spent all of his 12 NBA seasons with Minnesota. He would get an extension of his contract, which has one year plus an option year remaining, the official said. The Celtics had tried to get Garnett late last month, but his agent said he didn't want to go to Boston. Since then, Boston acquired seven-time All-Star guard Ray Allen from Seattle in a draft day deal. Already with Paul Pierce, the Celtics would become instant contenders in the mediocre Atlantic Division with Garnett, even without promising forward Jefferson. The Celtics obtained Allen and the 35th pick of the draft for guards Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak, and forward Jeff Green of Georgetown, whom they drafted with the fifth pick. The Celtics have won just three playoff series during Pierce's nine years with them. They still have an NBA-record 16 championships, but none since 1986. "They have no excuses, this team out there," Danny Ainge, the executive director of basketball operations, said after Allen was acquired. Pierce, 29, led the Celtics in scoring last season but played only 47 games because of injury. Allen, who turns 32 next month, averaged a career-high 26.4 points last season, his 11th, but underwent surgery to remove bone spurs on both ankles that required him to wear protective boots. He is expected to be ready for training camp. AP NEWS

I'm hoping A-Rod or Pujols break Bond's record (soon to be his). There is no guarantee either will even get close to the record though. I mean look at Griffey. He was supposed to shatter the Home Run record, but 6 injury stricken years later he finds himself closing in on 600 instead of 700.

There hasn't been an official announcement by either SCEA or Slant Six, so this might not be official. I have seen things on IGN go into the "TBA" category after an announced release date and they were never actually pushed back like IGN listed.

Turn on ESPN, the Falcons are addressing the issue live. They claim they will be asking the league for atleast a 4 game suspension and they are comfortable without Vick at training camp.

I saw this on CBSSportsline.com today and thought it'd be a cool idea to see who was "suckered" into buying jerseys that became meaningless soon after. Here is my list: Randy Moss - Raiders Nomar Garciaparra - Cubs Thomas Jones - Bears (Bought it during the 2006 season)

I don't like spiders as it is . I am a plumber in Chicago and the supply house I get my pipe from gets their cast iron pipe from Texas. Once every so often a black widow will crawl out of one of the pipes on the job. Not fun.
