    NIU shooting

My prayers go out to the family's and friends of those injured in this incident. Prane - I hope none of your friends were injured. And you're right about the media. Concealed weapons will never be allowed in the state of Illinois. I'm personally on the fence on this matter. I can see the pros and cons from both sides. I think if criminals believed that there were a chance a citizen was armed they may think twice before attacking them. Although on the other hand they may just assume everyone is packing and shoot you from behind instead. Its not bullshit that students aren't allowed to carry. Not every person is capable of handling a gun correctly but if allowed to carry they Will anyway because they think they need to. Untrained gun carrying people can cause serious problems. Lets say that you're at school and you're lucky enough not to be one of the ones who were ambushed by the gunman. You hear the shots and pull your concealed weapon. Several other students, who you don't know, pull their concealed weapons as well. All of you, with out knowing anyone else, are moving toward the shooting in some cases and staying put in other cases. Those moving towards the shooting have no clue who the bad guy is you just know there have been shots fired. You also have no clue as to where these other students are coming from. Theres no tactical plan. None of you have been trained in First Responder so none of you have any clue as to how to search for the gunman while staying safe yourselves. So with that you guys get closer to the center of the commotion. Now lets say you all are lucky enough to see the shooter at the same time. This would keep you from thinking one of you were the bad guy and one of you getting shot by friendly fire. So you all see the shooter at the same time. He has his gun in hand. There are students on the ground and some trying to run away. Each of you open fire on the shooter. Thats why you carry a concealed weapon right? For situations just like this. As the bullets fly the shooter begins returning fire when you all have ran out of bullets you find that, and this is best case scenario, the shooter is dead and so are several students who were alive prior to you guys opening fire on the shooter. He could have shot them. But it turns out that several students were shot by you guys. Now worst case scenario you don't kill the shooter, he has more guns than you, he kills a few of you, and you guys still innocent people during the shootout. This scenario could playout many different ways. Many of those ways for the worse. This is real live not a video game or TV. You've all heard, or should have heard by now, that if you pull a gun you better be ready to use it. While that is certainly true, the other part of that is that if you're going to use it you need to be better with it than the bad guy. My point to this is; Just because you can carry a gun doesn't make you a marksman who can handle the stressful situation of a shootout. You aren't shooting at paper targets downrange. You're shooting at another human being that is shooting back at you. And they might very well be a better shot than you. You are accountable for every round that comes out of your gun. Every round!! If one of your rounds accidentally kills a bystander, do you think their family is going to care that you were trying to help? NO. They wont care at all and their attorney is going to have a field day with you and your concealed carry permit. Saying that if I could have a gun on me at all times I would be safer is a knee jerk reaction. And is rarely thought completely through by anyone. BTW - If any of you have access to a firing range and would like to know what its like to shoot while your adrenaline is pumping do the below. This will give you a slight feel for what its like when its real. When you find yourself in stand off against someone who wants to kills you. And most of the time its over some shithead who hates cops anyways, that this person has tried to kill. Set your firing line at 5 yards (this is because most shootings occur within 10-15 feet). Stand at the 5 yard mark and shoot your target with 2 round bursts to center mass until you're empty. Take that target down and save it. Put a fresh target. Walk back 100 yards. As fast you can do 20 jumping jacks, 20 situps, 20 pushups, and then sprint the 100 yards to the firing line. Draw your weapon and shoot 2 round bursts to the center mass until you're empty. Compare your first shoot and your second shoot. You'll notice that you'll hit center mass almost 50% less (some more, some less) than you did on the first shoot. Shooting when your adrenaline is pumping is completely different than when you're stationary.
  5. Heres a simple solution: Don't act like a shithead and you wont get treated like a shit head. The problem now a days is that to many of you think its COOL to disrespect authority and act like since you or your mommies and daddies pay our salaries that we have to be nice to you and do what you want. The reality though is that we also work for the law abiding non attitude having citizens who don't want shitheads hanging out in front of their homes or businesses. Every video that has been posted over the past 2 weeks showing cops "beating" on people are nothing more than biased footage that most of you buy into without knowing anything else about the situation. Why don't you spend time searching for videos of cops "beating" on respectful law abiding non attitude having citizens? Or maybe even a video that you physically taped yourself, showing a cop doing something bad. When that happens I'll gladly agree with you that the cop(s) in the video are bad. Until then I'm sure you guys will continue bashing cops based on a video clip and nothing more. Mean while I'll continue backing my brothers and sisters in blue until I get more facts. Because thats what I do. I try and get all the facts before passing judgement. Keep this in mind too, KARMA IS A BITCH. The day will come where you will find yourself in need of a cop. It could be as simple as helping you when your car dies on the side of the road or it could be as serious as saving your life. I hope for your sake you don't end up with that one bad apple who knows you hate cops. He may leave you stranded or not try as hard to save your life. Of course after reading all the bullshit bashing going on lately even I might have to question just how bad he is. Good luck to all of you.
  6. I bought a 4 port hub from Walmart for $10 for my PS2 and I've never had any problems with it. Even with my PS3.
  7. Right there with you. I actually joked about getting a 360 just so I could get Bourne and Transformers on HD DVD. I'm glad I didnt do that.
  8. If you've got Tiger Woods 08 you can take a picture of yourself and have it loaded on to your characters face.
  9. I wish I was back home in Illinois man. The weathers nice down here and all, but that'll all change when the humdity hits 100% on a 98 degree day. I miss the seasons. You learn to appreciate them when you're without them.
  10. Yeah I got this afternoon and it was 72 with a felt like temp of 72.
  11. I hope they are able to find him alive and get him the help he needs. My prayers go out to him and his family. Yes, but maybe Pac Man, or Tetris would be better, than CoD4.! ;D Are you kidding me? Do remember how pissed of you'd get when the ghosts would surround you and you had no more energy dots or when the boxes would start dropping faster and faster?
  12. For many this will be like standing in line at the supermarket reading the Soap Opera Digest cover or the National Enquirer. The cover title would read: Dead Man Rises From The Ashes The question would be: Was on line gamer resurrected? So many of you know of a clan once called WeTWORKs. Many of you know that WeTWORKs lost a valued member named Strikerxxx. A retired decorated member of the US Army. Many of you were nice enough to stop by our site to offer your kind words and condolences. As callased as many of you will find this, there were a couple of people within WeT who felt some untruth amongst the entire situation. I was one of them. But then in my line of work I doubt a lot of things. Although the fact that I was unable to find any obituary or public record of the death. I found no proof otherwise as well. So with that we said it is what it is. He's no longer with is and our best wishes to his family. Now it turns out, we were right in our suspicions. It appears, and from I've been told confirmed, that Strikerxxx is actually alive and well. And that he and his son have been deceiving us this entire time. As a matter of fact, Striker has apparently been playing with those members who left WeT for quite some time now under several different names. I'll put up a list of names at the end of this post so you can check your forums. What each of you do with this information is completely up to you. As for Black Ops Unit, Strikerxxx, his son, and all know aliases will be banned forever from all of our sites. I've said over and over again and I live my life like this as well. HONOR, INTEGRITY, and LOYALTY are the characteristics of good people. Those who don't have these characteristics, IMO, are a waste of my time and energy. You will only get one chance to betray my friendship. After that you're dead to me. In this case, dead or not, Striker will remain dead to myself and Black Ops Unit. Names and Aliases: Strikerxxx R3D3MPTION P5YCHO Fuzionz Magnum4ce Switchblade (same IP address as Magnu4ce) If any of clans within this community would like the IP addresses, please have your clan leader contact me personally. For those who weren't aware, this is the memorial we put up in Strikers honor as well as the information regarding his death given to us by his son: To My Brothers and Sisters: We have lost a great friend, brother, and teammate. I have just received word that Strikerxxx has past away. He died this evening Sep 11th 2007 at 7:24pm from complications due to his cancer. That he was unable to tell everyone about, because he didn't want all of us to worrie about him. He let a few of us know what was going on and we were asked to keep it secret,so I appoligize that this is coming as a big suprise to most of you. Striker loved all of you very much he told me a few days ago that this family/clan was the one thing that took his mind off the pain he was going through with his chemotheropy treatment. I told him whatever makes you feel better man. Striker would have made a great officer and leader in this clan. Some of you could learn allot from him about dedication, commitment, and loyalty to your duties. I never had anything but possitives about Striker. Sometimes he was a little hot headed, but who isn't. Strikers son has been keeping us up to date on his condition, and I thank him for that. He left a letter that I am now able to share with all of you. 13. All I can say is, this is one funny ass commercial. http://www.rbk.com/us/perfectville/
  14. LOL Alright, I dont know about the rest of you, and maybe its just my sick sense of humor, but I cant help making a comment about this. When I click on the link I see a picture of a large black rod that says everlast on it. And you want to know if anyone in here has any experience with one of these. LOL Good luck in your search.
  15. Sorry Chili. I just couldnt make it all the way through your story before being distracted by the bouncing boobies in my peripheral. I'm sure its a good story though.
  16. Actually, to be charged with resisting arrest, you need to use actual physical force against the officer. I would know because I'm majoring in Criminal Justice. Great thread by the way. I just needed to correct you there, however statutes do vary by state. You may want to re-read your text books. Using physical force against a police officer raises the charge to aggravated battery to a police officer. Which is a class 3 felony in the state of Illinois. Simply pulling away from an officer while they are trying to restrain you could lead to resisting charges. At the least its an obstruction charge.
  17. Yeah Arch its differs from department to department. Used to be you had to have a minmum of 60 hours college credit. Now you only have to have a GED in many cases. Right. With the exception of the word salary thats pretty much what I said. By the way having a degree doesn't make you one bit smarter at all I know of a lot of stupid people who have degrees, as a matter of fact most departments that still require a degree don't care what your degree is in. You could have a degree in basket weaving for all they care. Basically it comes down to the fact that those with degrees will compare professions before committing to one. In doing so they will see that police officers make little money compared to other professions. And they make this small amount of money while working in a hostile environment. An environment that is not only thankless but because of the daily stresses causes many problems for officers in their personal lives ranging from health to family. So if a department wanted to attract a smarter breed of cop they would need to first start by increasing the starting pay. Buy lowering the requirements they have systematically allowed a few bad apples to get through the doors. Right. If those looking to become officers were required to have a degree prior to applying then the cost would most certainly be their responsibility. A large majority of departments offer tuition reimbursement for current officers who want to work towards a degree.
  18. Good cops hate bad cops even more than the public. Its because of them that all cops are seen as bad. Would you like to know why college degrees are not required any more? Here it is: Increasing the requirements would force departments and ultimately the tax payers to pay out more money. There is another reason too but I'm not going to discuss it in these forums. I'm sure its effected your department too Irish.
  19. So do some of your hazards include coyotes and mountain lions?

    VACUUMS

I have the Dyson Animal and highly recommend it. It works better than any other vaccum I've owned. Wel worth the money spent.
  21. Well HAVOC you may want to re-read your threads then including the first post of this thread. Once you do that you'll see that I never called you out personally. I spoke to all the comments and those who posted them in general. If you're going to take personal offense to everything I said then thats up to you. But I'm sure once you re-read things you'll see not everything I said in this thread refered to you. Your first sentence has me speechless. I mean seriously? I dont even know where to start with that one. And you dont ever break the law? You dont speed? Not even 1 mph over the speed limit? You have never ran a red light? You never drank before you were 21? And as far your comment, "...sorry bros my "eyes" dont lie to me...", in reference to my comment about seeing videos and passing judgement; Did you personally film those videos? If not, how can you say that what you are seeing is the entire story? You cant. What you are seeing is a section of a longer video. Also, its obvious you dont see the world through cops eyes. But to be honest with you after reading that first sentence I'm not sure I would understand who's eyes you do view the world through. Cops arent perfect. If you're looking for the police to be made up of perfect people its never going to happen. Thank you for the concer over my safety. You can rest assured that I will always stay safe out there. You stay safe out there as well. There are a lot of bad people out there looking to do bad things to good people. BTW - On a personal note, I dont beat people up for having differing opinions than me. And I dont carry a billy club.
  22. To be honest War-Do6 if I could've found videos I would've put them up. But like Irish said, the bad videos are more entertaining so good videos are hard to come by. If I run across any good videos I will make sure t post them up too. That first article hit the nail on the head with the life of the police officer too. You know, people will see a video or read an article about a suspect with a knife being shot and wonder why they had to be shot. What they dont know is that someone who is trained in how to handle a knife can close the gap of 20 ft in the time it takes an officer to draw his weapon, and thats without throwing the knife. If someone were to have a weapon of any kind we're not going to "wait and see" what they intend to do with it. If they come at us or you with that weapon we have a fraction of a second to decide what we're going to do. And as stated in another thread, if it comes down to me or you, I'm going home to my family. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
  23. Since the bashing of police threads seem to be growing in number and an avenue for some of you to voice your distrust, and in some cases hatred of the police, either due to you always being on the wrong side of the law or simply due to you being weak minded enough to jump on any band wagon the "COOL" people are on, I thought I would start a thread that shows you the good that cops do on a daily basis as well. Now I've read several times, and I mean several, that there are good cops too. Yet we continue to see threads showing videos involving police and suspects that then lead to opinions by many of you without one of you knowing anymore than what you see. It seems as though some of you are still upset that you were told to turn your music down, or given a ticket, or had your pot taken away by those "PIGS". Grow up. Stop breaking the law and start doing as your told to do when your told to do it. Keep this in mind: You don't have the right to resist arrest. Not even a little bit. I don't offend easily. But the constant bashing of the men and women who put their lives on the line every time they put that uniform on, so that you can sit safely in your home on your computer and pass judgement on situations you know nothing about is really irritating me. I have seen mentions of political candidates get hushed quicker than this. So since these cop bashing threads are going to be allowed to continue, I feel its only right to help inform you uninformed of the great things cops do to protect and save lives. All lives. Maybe even your life someday. Being a cop is a thankless job. If, today, you didn't get hit by a speeding motorist, beat up, robbed, raped, knifed, shot, murdered, etc thank a cop. And if you're one of the quite few who has read the police bashing threads and are fed up with it reply to this. I'd hate to believe that the majority of this community are cop haters. Stories of the good cops do everyday for people like you: This article is a must read - http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/columns/article_1361502.php http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/10/29/2007-10-29_hero_cops_save_12_from_fire_in_2_bronx_h.html http://enterprise.southofboston.com/articles/2007/09/01/news/news/news09.txt http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/philip.cline.top.2.332308.html
  24. Complacency is a deadly thing.
  25. It can be attributed to the high divorce rate among police officers as well. Â Only a select few can truely handle a job like this. Â I thank my wife everyday for helping me stay focused. Â Lord knows it isnt easy. Â
