  1. Hi there! My name is David León, and I’m the studio director of Lince Works. Today I would like to show you our new game: Aragami. Aragami is a stealth game in which you play an undead assassin with the power to control the shadows. The darkness is your ally and the source of your strength, letting you teleport instantly to any other shadow, create new areas of darkness to stay invisible, materialize physical weapons and traps from thin air, or even summon a shadow dragon to decapitate your target. Your dark journey starts when you are brought to life by Yamiko, a mysterious girl that asks for your help in getting her out of the mountainous fortress of Kyuryu. Freeing her from her prison is the key to uncovering the secrets of your past life. In Aragami, you strike under the cover of night, when Kaiho — an army of warriors with the power to control light — is most vulnerable. Even with your supernatural powers, your task won’t be easy. The warriors of Kaiho will use exploding traps, ethereal lights, and even supernatural sword techniques to try and stop you from reaching Yamiko. To be the perfect assassin, you will need to know how to blend with the environment, when to strike, and also when to avoid confrontation. Here at Lince Works we’ve defined two types of players: Demons and Ghosts. The first type includes players who love to kill every enemy and clear the area before proceeding, while the ghosts are players who prefer to stay invisible and beat the level without being noticed. In Aragami you will unlock different abilities suited to each gameplay style. We want to reward both types of players, as a mark of a true assassin is completing your objective using any method available. Aragami is a game heavily inspired by old-school stealth games like Tenchu and Metal Gear Solid, and more recent gems like Mark of the Ninja and Dishonored. We are huge fans of stealth games, as there is nothing else out there that can replicate that tension you feel when trying to be the perfect assassin. But we feel that in the last few years, “stealth†in games has been diluted and doesn’t pose a real challenge; the tension of being detected by the enemy is gone. We want to fix that in Aragami, where you are outmatched, outnumbered, and alone. You have no guns, amazing fencing skills or regenerating health. Your main weapons are your cunning, your sword, and darkness. The world of Aragami is set in a mystical Japan, with influences from other Asian cultures and mythos. We looked upon games like Okami and Journey to create a vivid cel shading art style to tell our story, our re-imagination of ninja tales, and stories of the battle between light and darkness. So thank you for reading and letting us show you Aragami. It’s coming to PS4 this fall, and we will be showing you more footage as we get closer to the date. We are always looking for comments, feedback, questions, and ideas, so don’t be shy and let us know what you think! View the full article
  2. How do you make the most fun side-scrolling brawler of all time? That’s what my brother and I asked ourselves when we started making Dungeon Punks more than four years ago. And we’re proud to announce that we’ll be showing our answer to that question at PAX East and then launching it on PS4! It’s been decades since brawlers ruled the arcades, but our memories of that time are still really vivid. We’d go anywhere we had to in order to play the hottest new machines. Some of our favorite times were running around New York City to different pizza joints just to shove some quarters into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Tower of Doom. There was just nothing like the feeling of exploring a new world together while fighting our way through hordes of enemies to victory. And scarfing down a great slice of pizza didn’t hurt the experience, either. Dungeon Punks combines some of our favorite ideas from brawlers, RPGs, and fighting games into one awesome hunk of greasy goodness. We wanted to make a game that has the interesting tactical play you can get from a great fighter, mixed with the joy of trouncing tons of bad guys with devastating magic. And we didn’t want to require crazy reflexes or hidden secret joystick moves just to pull off exciting combos. So we did something unusual: we took some of the game mechanics from the great tag team fighters like X-Men vs. Street Fighter and shoved them into our brawler. Then we gave every character a bunch of really cool tactical magical spells and a special unique dodge move, creating a play space that’s deep, challenging, and a ton of fun. The tag team part of Dungeon Punks is what really sets it apart. Your heroes work as a team, so you can set up a combo by turning your Tempest Knight into a giant spinning tornado attack, and then jump in as the Were-Witch and slam the same bad guys who are caught up in that whirlwind senseless. Not only that, but you can switch control to any of the up to six heroes in your party fighting alongside you at any time. Or better yet, have a buddy or two tap in and join you on your adventure! Did I mention we have a great cast of really wacky characters in the game? We wanted to create heroes who we wanted to play. So we took some of our best monster concepts and made them into heroes! The result was a cast of six wild characters, each one brimming with personality and a distinct feel you won’t see anywhere else. From an Egyptian goddess called The Hierophant to a distant descendant of Dragons known only as The Drakken Warrior, they each have their own very unique style and flavor. The game’s story is as unusual as the heroes themselves. The name of the game pays homage to the dungeon punk genre of fiction: imagine all the conveniences of the modern world, but substitute magic for technology. In this game that means flying boats, unwelcome visits from the Feds, corporate espionage, and a bunch of mutants with licenses to kill on a mission to take down the bigwigs of the resurrection insurance industry, all in a medieval setting. Add in a full length RPG that features tons of interesting people, missions, weapons, and equipment, and you’ve got Dungeon Punks. We’re going to be showing the game to the public for the first time at PAX East, and we can’t wait for players to see it! I hope you’re as excited as I am about the game and what makes it special — we’ve been working on these ideas for a long time and it’s really inspiring to see it all come together. My dream is that we’ll be able to bring you guys the same joy and feeling of collaborative exploration that we had back as kids, huddled around those arcade brawlers of yore. Or at least the most fun possible from beating the crap out of everything — that’s good, too. Or pizza. Pizza’s great. View the full article
  3. Please allow me to introduce you to 140, a challenging, minimalistic, rhythm-based platformer headed to PS4 and PS Vita this summer! I made 140 as a pet project in my spare time while also working as lead puzzle designer at Playdead. It features music by my friend and co-worker Jakob Schmid. At its heart 140 is an old-school platformer set in a world of abstract colorful graphics, but it has a musical twist. You’ll need to overcome obstacles that are controlled by an energetic, yet melancholic electronic soundtrack — meaning you’ll need a heightened sense of rhythm to sync up your every move and jump to the music. 140 was originally released for PC and Mac OS in 2013 after winning the Excellence in Audio award at the Independent Games Festival, and is now being adapted for consoles and handhelds by Abstraction Games in partnership with Double Fine Presents.
We’re all really excited about bringing 140 to PlayStation — it will be out this summer! View the full article
  4. We are so excited today to announce that Shadow Complex Remastered will launch May 3 on PS4. Delivering Shadow Complex to the amazing audience of PlayStation gamers has always been a goal for us at Chair, and we can’t wait to introduce all of you to the game next month! Some of our favorite gaming experiences have been made possible on PS4 (We can’t wait to get our hands on the new Uncharted!) and we’re honored to have Shadow Complex join such an amazing roster of games. Our initial goal in designing Shadow Complex was to create a game reminiscent of the classic nonlinear 2D side-scrollers we’d always loved — games like Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This beloved genre provided some of our most memorable gaming experiences, but was abandoned for more than a decade in favor of new games pushing 3D graphics. We love our modern games, but also longed for something new with the flavor and simplicity of something old. We hoped that others shared our passion for this genre and that Shadow Complex might help to reinvigorate it! It’s been an amazing experience to watch fellow gamers embrace Shadow Complex with such enthusiasm and we’ve enjoyed playing some of the other new side-scrollers that have since followed. Our twist on classic side-scroller action with modern design sensibility is presented in an original single-player adventure that unfolds across a range of non-linear levels. Gameplay centers around exploration and fast-paced combat, challenging you to gather power-ups to overcome obstacles, thwart enemies, and delve into a mysterious and challenging world. Shadow Complex’s extensive 10+ hour campaign lives on through multiple playthroughs as you obtain all of the game’s items and power-ups, as well as the bonus Proving Grounds mode, which provides side challenges to help hone the skills needed to become the ultimate Shadow Complex master. Shadow Complex Remastered gives you all of the original game content, updated with graphical enhancements, and additional Master Challenges. We’ve also added some fun surprises like all-new dynamic melee take-downs, so you can feel even more awesome when you’re stealing the bad guys’ tech and using it against them! We’re so grateful for all of your feedback and support that has allowed us to bring Shadow Complex Remastered to PS4. We’re looking forward to introducing you to the game on May 3rd! We invite you to join us today at 4:00 PM Eastern on Twitch for our Shadow Complex live stream to see the game in action on PS4 and to meet some of the Chair team members. Thanks! 7. Hello, PlayStation Nation! Leading up to the return of one of our most legendary late-90s Neo Geo fighting games, today we’re pleased to announce that The Last Blade 2 will be coming to PS4 and PS Vita on May 24 with cross buy support! Inspired by the success of Metal Slug 3, thanks to all the great feedback we’ve received from gamers on PlayStation platforms, and along with support from Sony Interactive Entertainment, it’s a real pleasure to share more details on this highly requested port and revered Neo Geo masterpiece with you today. In addition to the pixel perfect emulation from our developer Code Mystics, The Last Blade 2 features local and online multiplayer, as well as cross play and cross save functionality between PS4 and PS Vita. We’re also excited to reveal details on bonus The Last Blade 2 PS4 and PS Vita Themes that will be available for all our fans when purchasing the game! An epic storyline during the Twilight Period of the Samurai… Hell’s Gate, the boundary between life and death. Four Mythological Symbols are about to fight to the death against an ultimate spirit awakened from the netherworld, and send him straight back to Hell! Taking place during the end of the Edo period, a mystical and spectacular story is about to unfold. Eighteen characters guided by destiny cross swords! In addition to 12 returning combatants (including boss character Kagami from the series’ predecessor), four brand new characters and two hidden ones join the gorgeous roster of 18. Choose the character and fighting style that suits you the most, and prepare for an epic battle to seal Hell’s Gate! A truly innovative game system and unique gameplay mechanics! First, you can select your favorite sword type between Power, Speed, and Extreme modes. Be sure to master the Repel mechanic to counter your opponent’s attacks, and when the right time comes activate Super Secret Slash, Hidden Secret Slash, and Enigma Frenzy Attack ultimate techniques in order to change the outcome of the battle. Featuring cross play between PS4 and PS Vita! Through its multiplayer and cross play features, players can now duel against each other between PS4 and/or PS Vita. Furthermore, save data can now be shared via cross save functionality! Lastly, our beloved The Last Blade Series artist Tonko recently illustrated a new visual of “LB2†for a recently held fighting game tournament here in Japan! In celebration of this upcoming Neo Geo classic headed to PlayStation Store, we hope you enjoy her cute and super-deformed style in this new hand-drawn visual. View the full article
  8. Hey PlayStation.Blog, Corey from Klei Entertainment to talk about our newest console game Invisible, Inc., which launched today on PS4! We spent years developing this concept and now we’re very excited to say Invisible, Inc. is available on PS4 and includes the Contingency Plan expansion for even more agents, missions, sneaky augments, and spy tools at your command. Without a doubt, Invisible, Inc. was our toughest design challenge yet. We started with a vision of what the game would be: a tight, all killer, no filler spy thriller where every action mattered, and every decision could be your last. For those unfamiliar, Invisible, Inc. is about leading your team of elite spies to infiltrate the world’s most secure complexes. As the Operator, your job is to pick targets of opportunity, steal from the corporations, and upgrade your agents and programs in order to prepare for the final standoff. The world is completely different every time thanks to procedural generation, and the corporations are constantly adjusting to topple your plans. Out of all the features Invisible, Inc. offers, the most interesting to many will be the fact that it’s procedurally generated. Most stealth games are incredibly refined with every guard, alarm, and item meticulously hand placed. This often creates a wonderful, balanced, refined stealth experience, but once you play through the game (or even a certain level) you’ll never be able to play it again for the first time. You know where the guards will be, how many there are, or where the best loot is, for example. We decided to challenge ourselves to build a system where each level and room feels hand crafted, but gives you a new experience every time you play so that information truly becomes power. The procedural generation allows the game to renew itself every time, and we think that’s incredibly powerful in a stealth game. As Invisible, Inc.’s design is concentrated around replayability, we also filled out the DLC with more variety of enemies and new events that can show up at any point in the campaign. But we also noted that a lot more people than we expected were playing the endless campaign and not finding the late days as challenging as they could be. A new set of enemy units were created to fill in the gap and a new flavor of enemy “Daemon†programs were created to increase the difficulty gradually, making deep endless runs the challenge they were meant to be. With the new agents in Contingency Plan, it was important that they could drastically change how one plays the game. Normally players are trying their hardest to avoid guards; thus, Draco’s special abilities encouraged engagement. Derek’s special teleportation ability allowed for completely new tricks, with its own set of limitations to puzzle through. By making agents with highly unusual abilities, it also changed the value of the previous agents. Players could now look at them again in a fresh light. We’re really excited to be able to bring Invisible, Inc. to PS4, and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we did challenging ourselves to make it! View the full article
  9. Hey there, doods! We’re gearing up for Grand Kingdom to hit PS4 and PS Vita this June, and we want you to get in on the excitement! Our online beta will be starting in two weeks and we’re hoping to get a bunch of you playing the game’s online war portion to ensure the full release is smoother than a Prinny’s bottom! As an added benefit for participating, you’ll even get to keep your save data for the full release. Now, I’m sure you’ve got questions, and I’ve got answers! When is the beta? We’ll start sending out codes to download the beta on May 3 and it will last for one week. The servers will be shutting down in the wee hours of the morning on May 10. Well, how do I participate and get one of those codes? Go to the Grand Kingdom website and fill in the beta application form. It’s easy-peasy, dood. If Grand Kingdom is coming out on PS4 and PS Vita, can I join the beta on either system? While the game will be cross-platform, we’ll be running the beta for Grand Kingdom exclusively on PS4. How much of the game can I access? You’ll be able to use four classes from the game — Fighter, Hunter, Witch, Medic — to complete two quests from the single-player campaign, which will get you used to playing. You will also be able to participate in three battles in the online war each day. What’s this “online war†you keep mentioning? It’s a pretty big component of the game in which you choose a nation to support, then take all the steps necessary to lead them to greatness! Everything from voting on battle strategies and developing defenses and weaponry to jumping into the nitty-gritty of laying waste to an enemy squad. There’s really too much to it to describe it all here, but we’ll have more info on our official website at the start of the beta. Do I get to keep my save file for the full game? You sure do, dood! You’ll be able to keep your squad members and sweet, sweet mercenary money in the full release, but the online war scenario will be completely reset. Awesome! So I can use it on PS Vita? Sorry, dood. In the full release, there’s cross-play for the online war, but there is no cross-save functionality. So, what do I do now then? Well, my best answer would be get yourself on the beta list right away, so go sign up right now, and don’t forget to share the beta with your friends! You’ll want as many mercenary captains supporting your chosen nation as possible to win the war when the beta starts May 3. We’ll see you online soon, dood! View the full article
  10. We’re incredibly excited to announce Pyre, a new party-based role-playing game we’re making here at Supergiant. Play it at PAX: We’re bringing Pyre with us to PAX East this week! If you’re coming to the show, visit us at booth #8212 and let us know what you think! About the Game: In Pyre, you lead a band of exiles through an ancient competition spread across a vast, mystical purgatory. Pyre once again showcases our small team’s commitment to rich atmospheric presentation and storytelling, along with a distinctive gameplay blend that combines expressive decision making on the world map with fast, action-packed confrontations against rival groups of exiles whose own freedom is at stake. We want to create a large cast of characters you can grow close to as you travel together across a strange and wondrous land. The Story So Far: At the beginning of the game, your luck has almost run out when several masked wanderers find you and revive you from the brink. With your help, they seek to learn the truth about the Rites, a secretive competition through which the worthiest exiles can return home, absolved of their transgressions. As you journey across the Downside in the wanderers’ custom blackwagon, you’ll meet a variety of characters of all shapes and sizes, and learn what’s at stake for each of them should they prevail in the Rites. Your actions will determine who returns to glory, and who remains in exile to the end of their days. Availability: Pyre will be making its console debut on PS4 in 2017. We’ll have more details about the exact time closer to release. Until Next Time! Though Pyre won’t be available until next year, here are some things you can do right now: Visit our web site for more details. Drop us a note on Twitter with your impressions. We hope you’ll see why we think Pyre is special, and your support means everything to us as we push forward! View the full article
  11. Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share with you an in-depth look at our biggest and most expansive RPG yet, The Technomancer. Zachariah is a rookie Technomancer from Abundance, one of the powerful corporations on Mars. Technomancers are formidable warriors harnessing destructive electrical powers channeled through their implants. Your journey starts at Ophir, capital of Abundance, erected from the remains of the first human settlements in the Ophir Chasma. Picking from three combat stances, you’ll be able to specialize your style of play, making use of the Technomancer’s special electrical abilities to buff yourself or actively attack the many monsters roaming the red planet. The combat with the staff is based on mobility and damage, using sweeping blows against groups comprising several enemies. Fighting with Blade and gun requires agility, dodging, and controlling the pace of combat with the nail gun. Finally, the Blade and shield combat style focuses on defence, blocking and parrying to inflict heavy damage in response to an attack. Mars is a dangerous place, with deadly threats lurking around every corner. Whether you’re facing underworld mobs in the slums of Ophir, spy soldiers who seek to hunt you down, Technomancers from rival corporation Aurora, or the many mutated hybrid creatures roaming the canyons of Mars, you’ll have to think and fight tactically if you want to survive. Of course, your Technomancer talents can be combined to your combat style: electrify your weapon to boost the damage, or create an electricity shield to boost your defense… it’s also important to consider changing stances in the middle of a fight to gain an advantage! Visit cities scattered throughout Mars and learn of new cultures separated from Earth for many years. We’re excited for you to explore our vision of the red planet inhabited by humans, corporations, and genetically modified monsters on June 21. View the full article
  12. Like so many stories steeped in organized crime, that of Lincoln Clay is complicated. Once an orphan, and now a veteran of the Vietnam War, Lincoln returns to his life in New Bordeaux (a fictional interpretation of New Orleans) and soon falls in with his old gang. When that gang is betrayed by the Italian mafia, Lincoln is bloodied and left for dead. But the hardened soldier survives, and begins his plot to take down the man responsible and wrestle the city under his control. This violent and layered tapestry serves as the backdrop to Mafia III, which launches October 7 on PS4. Lincoln’s story of revenge sizzles with flavor. As I sat down to play an early build of Mafia III in San Francisco last week, I was greeted by beautiful cars, pulpy dialogue, and the twang of Creedence Clearwater Revival. 1968 New Bordeaux makes a perfect stage for Lincoln and his criminal lieutenants as they dismantle the mafia’s operations across the city. In this demo, Lincoln fights to seize control of the downtown district from the unnervingly calm Tony Derazio — a high-ranking numbercruncher with a strong distaste for failure. In order to lure Derazio out of his heavily guarded penthouse, Lincoln must disrupt Derazio’s activities downtown. There is an ample number of ways to achieve this, from destroying his shipping trucks to the more personal approach of eliminating his enforcers. These objectives highlight one of the key pillars of Mafia III: no failure but death. As long as Lincoln survives, players can approach missions in a variety of ways, from systematic stealth operations to guns-blazing bravado. If a key mission vehicle gets trashed in the process, no problem — players simply find another way to advance, as long as they keep Lincoln alive. And staying alive is both a challenge and thrill in Mafia III. Combat undulates between heart-pounding stealth takedowns and the rush of cover-based gunplay. When things heat up, enemy encounters can spiral into large-scale shootouts quickly, which may necessitate Lincoln to call in backup from one his lieutenants. This can include cutting the phone lines to block enemy reinforcements, or hiring some muscle to cover Lincoln’s back. My personal favorite? Wiring the mobile store and watching a van pull up curbside to dispense fresh armaments, body armor, restorative items, and a confidence boost for Lincoln’s next mission. The final showdown in Derazio’s penthouse is nothing short of spectacular, with copious amounts of bullets exchanged, engaging room design for cover opportunities, and one last surprise when Lincoln meets his target. After Derazio is dispatched, players are free to assign that hideout and its assets to one of Lincoln’s lieutenants. This opens up the larger strategy element of Mafia III. Keeping Lincoln’s confidants happy is a game in and of itself. Assigning resources to one of the three local crime organizations influences the story, dialogue, player income, and even the upgrades Lincoln has access to. Keeping Lincoln alive is one thing, but balancing the power of an entire criminal underworld? Be prepared for several terribly uncomfortable (and dangerous) conversations. Mafia III promises tremendous player choice set to a blissfully curated soundtrack. Players can experience Lincoln’s story for themselves when this massive open world hits PS4 on October 7. 13. Hello there, PlayStation.Blog! I’m Sean Murray from Hello Games, the indie team behind No Man’s Sky. It’s a science-fiction game set in an infinite procedural universe, coming to PS4 on June 21. Last month saw the biggest reveal for the game since our nerve-wracking debut at the VGX Awards. We showed a small demo to hundreds of journalists from around the world, who called the game “breathtakingly beautiful†(Wired) and “insanely exciting†(io9). It was lovely to show the game to real people, and see so many gamers play in so many different ways (And be surprised by what they discovered!). One of those folks was fellow sci-fi nerd Anthony Carboni. Once I had finished asking him a million questions about meeting the cast of Star Wars (he hosted The Force Awakens premiere), I thought it’d be fun to let him play. It was so nice to see Anthony really enjoy the game, and I figured you might like to see what happens when someone other than me plays No Man’s Sky! Note: some alien life was harmed in the making of this video. Thank you as always for your support! Wish us luck! View the full article
  14. What’s up, World Warriors? We have a ton of new details to share with you today surrounding the next update for Street Fighter V, including the return of Guile along with his classic stage and some additional improvements to the online experience. Guile is certainly one of the most iconic Street Fighter characters as he was one of the original eight World Warriors in Street Fighter II. His connection to Charlie Nash was revealed in his Street Fighter II ending as he prepares to finish off M. Bison once and for all for killing his friend and mentor — but is stopped at the last moment by his wife Jane. It wasn’t until Street Fighter Alpha 3 however where we learn more details about Guile’s search for Nash who had gone missing during a secret mission. While Guile eventually found Nash at the Shadaloo base, their reunion was short lived as Nash held off M. Bison to allow Guile to escape and was the last time he saw the man who taught him how to throw Sonic Booms. In Street Fighter IV, Guile’s search for Nash continues as his body was never recovered, and while unsuccessful in finding him, he does run into French MMA fighter Abel who is familiar with Guile’s fighting style. Guile, knowing that Nash is the only other fighter that uses Sonic Booms, presses Abel for more answers but is unable to get any new information. While Guile has had a major role in most of the mainline Street Fighter games, he has also appeared in countless crossover titles such as Street Fighter x Tekken, Marvel vs Capcom series, and Capcom vs SNK 2. Guile will be available for free later this month to all players until the Zenny shop launches and will receive his own set of Trials and Character Story. His Battle Costume will be available for free to all Season Pass holders as well. Character OverviewIn Street Fighter V, Guile retains his ability to dominate both the ground and air with his solid normal attacks and special moves, such as Sonic Boom and Somersault Kick. He also now has the ability to enter a crouch walk state called Faultless Move which allows him to keep his charge while moving forward, giving him even more options in his kit to keep his opponents in line. Guile is a great choice for those of you who are looking for a charge character who can easily control the pace of the match. V-Skill: Sonic Blade Guile spins up sonic energy to create a Sonic Blade which acts as a stationary projectile that can also juice up his Sonic Booms. Sonic Blade can really help Guile pressure opponents on their wake-up or help him win projectile battles as it increases Sonic Boom durability! V-Trigger: Solid Puncher Guile powers up and tosses out continuous Sonic Booms! Each button throws a Sonic Boom at a different speed, so mixing up between buttons can create interesting Sonic Boom sequences. Depending on the sequence used, this can act as a great combo extender, be used to overwhelm opponents, or easily push opponents to the corner. Critical Art: Sonic Hurricane Guile’s most devastating attack, the Sonic Hurricane! Guile powers up and hits his opponent with a massive, multi-hit Sonic Boom. This Critical Art receives a damage and range boost while his V-Trigger is active. Air Force Base StageWe’re also excited to announce our first DLC stage, which is a classic that you all know and love: Guile’s Air Force Base! The F-16 receives a new coat of paint and you’ll probably recognize some familiar faces cheering you on in the background. This stage will be available in the Shop for 70,000 FM. Season Pass holders will receive this stage for free as a thank you for supporting Street Fighter V. Rage Quit SystemWe’re also happy to announce that we will be implementing a system to punish players who frequently disconnect during matches (aka rage quitters). The way this will work is the system will identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches and will lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time. Players who have been identified as abusing the system will receive an in-game message notifying them they have been locked out of matchmaking. More additions and enhancements to this system will be implemented in the future. Matchmaking ImprovementsWe will also be making a number of improvements to Street Fighter V’s matchmaking. Many users should have an easier time creating and connecting to Battle Lounges and we are also loosening the restrictions on finding an opponent. We know users in Europe and other parts of the world have experienced some issues finding opponents and this should help increase the amount of battles coming their way. That’s it for today! We’ll have details on the release date of the April update very soon. View the full article

  16. Since the Doom open multiplayer beta runs on PS4 from April 15 to 17, it seemed smart to report the experiences I had during last month’s early access period that opened up for owners of (the excellent) Wolfenstein: The New Order on PS4. Given the historic influence of Doom’s classic arsenal, I thought it might be best to focus on detailing the firepower awaiting beta players come April 15. Read on for my quick thoughts, and chime in on the comments below if you’ve given the beta a whirl. DOOM | PlayStation.com Heavy MachinegunOne of the most balanced weapons on the Doom battlefield, and the digital scope helped manage long-distance relationships. It’s not fancy, but it’s effective. Super ShotgunThe cornerstone of any Doom or Quake game, and I’m pleased to report that it’s effective as hell in the Doom beta. The mod fire tightens the spread of the buckshot, making it a perfect choice for close encounters. Plasma RiflePerhaps my favorite weapon from the private beta — it’s just so satisfying. And the mod fire is one of the best, a grenade-like projectile that splashes damage over time. Rocket LauncherOne of the most powerful weapons of the beta, though ammo is scarce so every shot counts. Possesses a super-useful mod firing mode that detonates the rocket on command using L2. Kablammo! Static RifleA novel, unique weapon that grows stronger with movement. Fully charged, the Static Rifle inflicts more damage per shot than any other gun. Vortex RifleI’m not great with sniper rifles, but I’ve seen other Doom beta players make great use of this precise weapon. You can increase the damage by charging up its mod fire (hold R2). Lightning GunPlucked straight out of Quake, this weapon emits a devastating shaft of electricity. Trigger the mod fire (R2) to spread the pain to multiple opponents. Ready to dive in? Here’s a quick rundown from our friends at Bethesda with more info on this weekend’s open beta: If you were unable to join us for our recent Doom closed multiplayer beta, you’re in luck! From April 15 through 17, you’ll be able to jump straight into the open beta – no code necessary. Simply download the beta and let the viscera fly.Preload the beta now by following these steps: Go to the PlayStation Store Search for ‘DOOM’ Select ‘DOOM Open Beta’ from the search result list Click the ‘Download’ button. It’s as easy as that. Once the beta kicks off at 12am ET / 9am PT, you’ll be able to hop right into two 6v6 modes – Team Deathmatch and Warpath – on the Heatwave and Infernal maps. With access to new weapons like the Vortex Rifle, and Doom classics like the Super Shotgun, you’ll have a blast putting your opponents in their place. Be the one to reach the Demon Runes in each mode first and walk a mile in the Revenant’s shoes as you tear your foes apart with its brutal rocket launcher. For more on the open beta, check out the FAQ section of the beta site, where you’ll find more details on the content of the beta and how you can share your experience. View the full article
  17. Hi everyone! Hola a todos! We are Dani Candil (Art Director) and Dani Castellanos (Lead Designer) from A Crowd of Monsters. We’re the directors of this black and white (and red) episodic noir adventure called Blues and Bullets. We’ve been working hard on Blues and Bullets and we’re excited to announce that the first two episodes will hit PS4 on April 19. Our story begins…Blues and Bullets is a noir adventure set in the ’20s, in a fictional American city called Santa Esperanza. A place where Eliot Ness, the former leader of the legendary Untouchables, wished to spend the rest of his days working in his diner after jailing Al Capone, not dwelling too much on the cesspit of corruption his city had degenerated into. But things rarely go as planned. When children suddenly start to disappear, Eliot decides to take the law into his own hands, track down the culprit, and bring him to justice by any means necessary — even if he has to abandon his dreams of a peaceful life and again get embroiled in shootouts with the usual array of assassins and hoodlums. Helped by various (famous and infamous) characters from unexpected places, the player must guide Eliot through the increasingly morbid and decadent scenarios searching for clues to solve the case. A world in black and white…Yes, we know. The first thing you may be asking when you see Blues and Bullets is… where are the colors? We decided to make an homage to the noir film genre and create a unique atmosphere only using black, white, and red. We used the same old illumination techniques that legendary film directors were using in the ’40s in an attempt to capture this classic but intriguing essence of noir. And finally, after the hard work, sleepless nights, and dozens of pizzas for the team, we are bringing all of our work to this wonderful platform. We’re so happy with the finished result and we hope you enjoy the adventure, the blues inspired OST created by Sonotrigger and Izä (enjoy the OST here!), and our homage to noir. See you soon in Santa Esperanza! View the full article

  19. Hey everyone, today we’re announcing Absolute Drift: Zen Edition for PS4, a collaboration between Flippfly and Funselektor Labs. For those of you who are familiar with Flippfly’s Race The Sun, you’ll understand why we were really attracted to Absolute Drift’s minimal aesthetic, and why we wanted to help bring the game to PS4. I mean, just look at it! The game is all about becoming a master at the art of drifting. Dune at Funselektor Labs created the perfect blend of minimalist art and challenging gameplay, and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on this special edition of the game for PS4. Here are a few of the things you’ll be doing in the game: Drifting to raise your score and multiplier: Drifting past clipping points, (without touching them!): And scoring massive points on the all new “Drift Lines†And here are the types of environments you’ll be playing in: Exploring the vast “Free Roam†area that acts as the game’s hub: Competing on the game’s 10 Drift Tracks: Flying down one of 4 Mountain Drift courses: Doing crazy moves on 9 “Gymkhana†courses: And testing your skills on one of 5 all-new “Midnight Events,†which will challenge the most experienced drifters! Each event in the game has its own leaderboards, as well as a set of challenges that will guide you along your path to becoming a master drifter. The journey from apprentice to master drifter is an experience we can’t wait to share. Absolute Drift: Zen Edition slides onto PS4 this summer. View the full article
  20. Hey PlayStation Nation, We’ve seen some amazing matches and strategies in Paragon, and it’s time to shake it up again. We’d like to introduce you to our newest Hero(es) … Iggy & Scorch. Get your first look at the flame-wielding duo below. You’ll be able to play Iggy & Scorch as part of our update on Thursday, April 21. Paragon | PlayStation.com The TL;DR on Iggy & Scorch is that the duo is a caster with serious lane control. Iggy sits atop Scorch while putting down flame turrets that zone enemies. Iggy also throws molotovs that cause fire damage, while Scorch secretes flammable oil that compounds the damage over time and expands the damage area. We’ll be looking at Iggy & Scorch in-depth during our Twitch stream on Monday, April 18, at 11 a.m. EDT. As always, all Heroes in Paragon are free, so if you’re in Early Access you’ll be able to jump in and play with fire on Thursday. If you’re not in Early Access yet, you can pick up a Founder’s Pack to get into the action. You can also get the Iggy & Scorch Master Challenge (for skins, boosts, and other rewards) on the Essentials Edition disc, which you can pre-order now. See you on the battlefield! 21. Hello, PlayStation fans! It’s a great pleasure for me to announce that our upcoming stealth-action game Shadwen will soon be making its way onto the PS4. We’re aiming for a May launch window! Let’s start off with the announcement trailer: Shortly put, Shadwen is an explosive stealth game where the only rule is to remain unseen at all times. If you get caught, it’s game over. Luckily, there are a bunch of gameplay mechanics that make this a lot of fun. For starters, time only moves when you’re moving, so you have ample time to plan your moves, even in mid-air. Second, should you make a mistake or wish to try some maneuver (a kill for example) in a different way, you can instantly rewind time and try again! The premise of the story is that Shadwen, an assassin on her way to kill the king, has a chance encounter with an orphan girl, Lily. The girl has been caught stealing and Shadwen decides to help her out of the precarious situation. Throughout the game you have the option to play either lethally or non-lethally, starting from the first encounter. The story will be different depending on your choice to kill or not to kill. You will, however, need to take action one way or the other! Physics and the movement of your character play a big role in the game. You’re free to traverse the medieval city with your grappling hook and impressive acrobatic skills. You can topple over crates and barrels from high up to surprise unsuspecting guards or plant bombs and other deadly devices onto various objects to watch your opponents die in gruesome ways. There’s a lot of room for experimentation and pretty much anything can work! You could, for example, load a cart with poison dart traps and push it downhill onto a group of guards. If it doesn’t quite work out as you first pictured it in your mind, you can instantly rewind time and try something different. Perhaps exploding bombs would have been the deadlier choice, or distraction the stealthier option? Stay tuned for our launch in May, and please let us know your thoughts in the comments below. 23. Hi there, Tommaso from Housemarque speaking. It’s about time we shed some light on a few aspects of Alienation that have been shrouded in mystery up to now. Today’s the day we take a look at what we call Alienation’s metagame! Two things that set our latest effort apart from the previous games we made are the loot system and the way weapons work. For those of you familiar with Dead Nation, this is quite a departure. In our zombie shooter, players could buy and upgrade a specific set of weapons between stages. In Alienation, weapons and loot are either found in boxes or dropped by enemies after they’ve been killed. This means that when you proceed with missions, you’ll have the chance to obtain rarer weapons or upgrade your weapons’ stats to match your playstyle. I’ll give you some numbers (we all like numbers, right?): The game features four different types of Alien Cores, each upgradable up to five times and activating a different effect when set in one of the weapon slots. For example, Red Cores augment damage, while Yellow Cores modify the clip size of the weapon. Carefully planning where to put the Cores you collect during missions is a vital part of progressing in Alienation, as specific combinations can even add additional bonuses. On top of that, loot includes metals of different rarities from “Stock†to “Legendary.†Collecting these metals allow you to “reroll†some stats of the weapon you use them on, improving your chances for the next shooting session. Last but not least, some weapons enjoy special perks, activated when Cores are mounted in a specific pattern. For example, these perks can add the chance of a lightning chain between enemies when bullets hit them and certain conditions are met. The idea behind all this is to get players to invest in their weapons of choice and carefully plan their arsenal before jumping into the fight — we feel that the system adds a lot of replayability and believe you will love it. 24. Our studio prides itself on the balance of technical development and pushing the boundaries of what we believe to be the art of game development. The legacy of the God of War franchise, and every external development partnership game we’ve helped inspire and produce, speaks strongly to this. To stay on this path, as the Head of Studio, I strive to inspire our leaders of today to guide and support our prospective leaders of tomorrow to be constantly aware and ready to leverage what they bring to our future. I’m thankful to have the ability to help enable and support everyone at Santa Monica Studio with the tools and resources they need to elevate their strengths. We provide our creatives the opportunity to do and be something they may never have thought possible. They have everything they need at their fingertips to be world class in their craft. It’s how they push themselves and, more importantly, how they engage with their team that matters. Because we all have tremendous faith in our collaborative processes, I’m able to watch a studio of amazing people constantly build a strong creative connection together. Those are the moments that when connected, bring out the best ideas, and continue to propel us forward into creating another groundbreaking experience for PlayStation. I love every minute of it and could not be more proud of our team. Please visit sms.playstation.com/creatives or follow @SonySantaMonica to learn more. Santa Monica Studio Creatives is a series focusing on 4 unique individuals of our family whose journey to our studio is as inspiring as their creative talents within.
