  3. Today we’re excited to launch Stories: The Path of Destinies on PS4, an action RPG set in a beautiful world full of fantastic locations to explore. It’s also brimming with evil Imperial Ravens to defeat using fluid and stylish Sword Fu. In addition to the storybook aesthetic and fast-paced action, one of our key interests when making the game was to try something different with the storytelling. We knew we wanted to put the player in control, but we also felt that there was still so much left unexplored with regard to videogame narratives. We started our creative process with several questions: how can we make each choice presented to the player really impactful? What if we could make visiting alternative choices and outcomes part of the fun of the game and not something you only achieve by loading a checkpoint? What if exploring the multiple stories was just as fun as exploring levels and finding hidden treasures? Then we remembered how awesome it felt to dictate the story in those choose-your-own-adventure books. Incorporating some of those elements led us to what we feel is a very unique direction in how we tell the story of Reynardo, the roguish fox hero of our game. When the game begins, Reynardo is already in a desperate situation — he is part of the Rebellion fighting the evil Empire and things are not going well for his faction. In fact, the final battle is about to happen and, as it stands, the Empire’s overwhelming armada is sure to crush the Rebellion once and for all. With the Imperial fleet on his tail, Reynardo only has time for a few key moves before the final showdown. Right off the bat, he must face a difficult choice: rescue his old buddy Lapino or search for a mythical superweapon, even if that means abandoning his friend to a dire fate? As the player, you’re in charge of making all these tough decisions. Each one will not only lead to a unique ending and conclusion to the war, but to an entirely unique story. This means that no single choice ever folds the narrative back onto a known path. This creates more than two dozen different stories that can take you anywhere from romance to Lovecraftian ancient gods and rituals. Reynardo has many fates, which is why the game’s full name is Stories: The Path of Destinies. Finishing any of these stories is not the end of the game; it’s actually just one chapter in the book that comprises Reynardo’s destinies. Reynardo will need to carefully piece together the information gained from these diverse storylines in order to find the path leading to victory. While betrayal can cut our hero’s adventures short, it represents broader knowledge about certain characters involved in the war that can then be put to use in another chapter. As Reynardo navigates his myriad destinies, he retains memories of past failures. And clever foxes don’t make the same mistake twice. Can you weave a story worthy of a hero? Launch Party is our annual celebration of fine digital games (you may remember it by its former name, Spring Fever). Pre-order any (or all) of these games to save 10%. Enjoy! View the full article

  5. Greetings, my fellow doods! Chris King from NIS America here to give you some fresh information on our upcoming title Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness. We are happy to officially announce that the game is coming to PS4 and PS Vita in North America on September 13! History and StoryFor those who may not know much about Psycho-Pass, allow me to share with you a brief history of this highly recommended series. Psycho-Pass originally began as an anime television series airing in Japan in 2014. The anime received critical praise and quickly made its way to the West, growing popular within the anime community. Written by Gen Urobuchi — best known for his dark style and unforgiving plot twists — Psycho-Pass tells a dystopian sci-fi tale for the ages. In 2113, the government in this society has advanced technological developments that allow one’s mental state and disposition to be quantified and profiled. In other words, with only the mere “intent†of behaving in a criminal manner, your mental state would be profiled as such in your “Psycho-Pass,†resulting in potential imprisonment or even death. This system is the government’s omniscient eyes of justice. The Psycho-Pass is broken into two main components. One of the components is the Hue, which is a visual representation that conveys a person’s stress level. The other is a Crime Coefficient, a numerical value representing a person’s criminal capacity. This numerical value determines whether an individual requires enforcement by the detectives of the Public Safety Bureau. The GameDeveloped by MAGES, creators of the well-received “Science Adventure†series (Chaos:Head, Steins;Gate, Robotic;Notes), Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness takes place during the timespan of the first season of the anime series and adds backstory and world building to the overall story, as well as in-depth storylines to each of the newly introduced characters. You choose between two new playable characters: Nadeshiko Kugatachi, a calm and serious Inspector whose memories were wiped away, or Takuma Tsurugi, a hot-headed Enforcer who is searching for his missing childhood friend. As you proceed through the game you are given different cases and must decide on the best course of action for each given situation. Some decisions may lead you towards the right path, and some may lead you closer to… something else. Be warned: every choice you make has its own repercussions and could end the game sooner than expected. Fully voiced by the original Japanese anime voice actors, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness comes with new characters, new plotlines, and all of your favorites from season 1 of the anime series. It’s truly a game you can immerse yourself into. Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will be available not only on PlayStation Store and at retail as a standard PS4 and PS Vita title, but also as a limited edition! For more information about the game and limited edition, check out our official website. That’s all the information I have for you guys! We are still early in the localization process, but I will definitely have more once we get a little closer to the release date, so please look forward to it. For the time being, we highly recommend checking out the anime series. Thank you all and please look forward to Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness this September for PS4 and Vita! View the full article
  6. Hi everyone! This is Graham from Drinkbox Studios, creators of About a Blob, Mutant Blobs Attack, and Guacamelee! We’ve been hard at work on Severed for the past two years and we’re excited to announce that the game will launch for PS Vita on April 26 for $14.99. PlayStation Plus subscribers can also expect a 10% discount during the launch week. The Long Road…If you haven’t heard of Severed before, here’s a quick run-down: Severed is a first-person dungeon crawling adventure where you equip the carcasses of your enemies to gain their powers. You play as Sasha, a warrior who wakes up in a surreal fantasy world and sets off on a mission to find the missing members of her family. Severed was initially planned as a Spring 2015 release, but after showing an early demo of the game at PlayStation Experience in December 2014 we were inspired with a ton of new ideas and decided there was a lot more we wanted to add. It only took a whole extra year, but we’ve finally finished packing in as much as we could into Severed and we’re really happy with how it has turned out. Original Soundtrack Available NowWhile Severed is still a few weeks away from release, the Original Soundtrack for the game is available for streaming and download today right here. Composed by the Juno nominated band Yamantaka // Sonic Titan and special guests Pantayo, the intense progressive rock music in Severed’s OST gives a good sense of the unique atmosphere you can expect to find in Sasha’s adventure. We’re huge fans of PS Vita and we’re excited to finally get it into the hands of PS Vita owners. Hope you all love the game as much as we enjoyed making it! View the full article
  7. “Hey, why dontcha take our mega-hit game and do whatever you want with it?†Okay, Klei’s offer to Capy to work on their Don’t Starve series wasn’t quite that casual, but pretty darned close. As fellow Canadian independent developers and longtime studio buds, all it really takes to get a project rolling is a friendly chat over a tasty beverage. And just like that: Wilson, Maxwell, and the rest of the gang left Vancouver to take a tropical vacation, and Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked was born. And now Shipwrecked is sailing onto PS4 this spring. Rejoice, Don’t Starve players! Looking for a fresh take on their beloved survival game, Klei asked Capy if we’d be interested in creating a new expansion. They gave us no guidelines or rules for what we could do with a Don’t Starve game — just a blank canvas in the form of their amazing video game with a wickedly-committed community of diehard fans. Jeez, pretty trusting bunch, those Klei-folk, eh? After jumping into the Don’t Starve deep end and throwing around ideas for where to take it, what stuck was the idea of transplanting the Don’t Starve characters and mechanics to a whole new, built-from-scratch world: one of sun-scorched desert islands featuring brand new biomes, creatures, bosses, weapons, and ways to avoid starvation. And then the secret ingredient: just add water. And boats. Oh, and crabbits. Obviously the main feature of Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked, beyond the change to a sunny locale (Well, sometimes sunny), is the freedom to craft boats and take to the water to explore this entirely new nautical world. Hop in a sailboat and chart new corners of the mysterious archipelago, paddle a raft through the crashing waves and shout “Land Ho!†when you spot a newly discovered jungle island, find treasure maps that lead to buried riches, or fire cannons at pursuing sea monsters or schools of surface-slicing fins. To us, the rich mythos of shipwreck and pirate castaway lore was a perfect fit for Don’t Starve’s survival gameplay, and the expansion into seafaring offers a new set of challenges to established players. This exciting new take on Don’t Starve resulted in Capy and Klei Voltron-ing to create this ambitious and huge new chapter of the Don’t Starve experience. It was a super fun developement experience for us, and we’re excited to bring the fun to PS4 players. To not just survive, but thrive in Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked, players had better polish their compasses, wipe the smudges off their telescope lenses, and find their sea legs in a hurry! A pirate hat wouldn’t hurt, either. View the full article

During our panel, members from the cast of Powers joined executive producers Remi Aubuchon, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming to reveal more details on the highly anticipated second season of Powers. Powers season 2 is premiering in the US and Canada on May 31st on PlayStation. The panel discussed the new emphasis this season on the rise of younger heroes like Calista (Olesya Rulin) and Zora (Logan Browning) along with newcomer Sgt. Martinez (Raul Casso), a military veteran who won’t let the loss of three limbs stop him from making a difference in the world in the wake of Retro Girl’s death. It was also revealed that Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward) takes a more prominent role this year. Expect more wisecracks and ass-kicking from everyone’s favorite Detective Pilgrim! At the panel we debuted a new scene from season 2 which shows Calista revealing her new found powers to Walker, who’s still grieving the loss of the woman he loved. And as a special treat for the fans, you’ll notice that the scene ends with our striking new title sequence which was designed by Michael Avon Oeming himself, the co-creator and artist of the Powers comic. 14. I still remember playing Star Ocean: The Second Story on the original PlayStation, moved by the stirring strings in the opening sequence and obsessing over the manual at my grandmother’s house. I told Shuichi Kobayashi this as we sat together in San Francisco earlier this week, discussing the upcoming Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness on PS4. Kobayashi, the game’s producer, hopes the next chapter in the Star Ocean series can bring this same level of emotion to its players when it launches on June 28 this year. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness follows the story of a young swordsman named Fidel defending his village from a bandit raid. Like so many Japanese role-playing games, Fidel and his friends are soon swept up into events far greater than themselves. Like the past Star Ocean games, this means events on a galactic scale, in which fantasy and science-fiction meld together in a familiar flavor that fans of the series will know all too well. Kobayashi and his team mean for Integrity and Faithlessness to reboot the series and begin a new chapter in a story of magic, adventure, and sailing the stars. Several additions have been made to the familiar mechanics of the franchise — seven-character battles chief among them. As players explore the world of Faykreed, Fidel’s party will grow, eventually allowing players to control a core team of six heroes in real time with a seventh character as support. Integrity and Faithlessness has several layers to the battle system, beginning with the simple interplay between weak attacks, strong attacks, and blocking. These three types of actions have a rock-paper-scissors style relationship, forcing players to monitor an enemy’s actions in the field and react accordingly. The next layer to combat is the usage of skills. Special Arts (physical skills) and Signeturgy (magical skills) are learned through reading books, and each hero can equip up to four in battle that vary depending on their distance to the target. These skills can be improved through use, enticing players to wield them often for even more effective results. The third primary layer to battle is the Role system, and it has an enormous impact on the overarching flow of Integrity and Faithlessness. Roles are unlocked over time and include simple assignments like Attacker or Healer, but include more specific examples such as the Insect Slayer or Invoker. Like skills, Roles grow in power with use and endow special bonuses to the character using it. While other RPGs allow players to assign AI behaviors to heroes not currently under control, Integrity and Faithlessness turns this system into its own game mechanic. Now the act of party management and strategy is directly incorporated into the growth of the player’s heroes. Even after a few brief battles in Star Ocean’s opening area, the battle system’s potential is obvious and enthralling. Add in full crafting suite and a “Specialty System†that enables the heroes to gather resources (among other alluring unknowns), and Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness promises to keep players engaged for dozens of hours. But more than anything else, Kobayashi and his team want players to embark into a new world and mirror the same awe and excitement that the heroes themselves face when they encounter a world, and a galaxy, far greater than their own. 16. Hello again! We’re excited to share the news that Rocketbirds 2: Evolution is coming exclusively to PS4 and PS Vita on April 26. With the launch date approaching, we at Ratloop wanted to share more details about the game’s new features. Even though Rocketbirds 2: Evolution has a full six-chapter Story Mode campaign, I’d like to talk a bit more about the game’s new Rescue Mode. Rescue Mode is essentially a meta-collection game. To give players a taste of what they can expect from this new mode, we put together a short video named A Chicken’s Guide to Killing Penguins, starring James McCreadie as Metal Chicken. In Rescue Mode, up to four friends (online or offline) can go on missions to find hidden items and artifacts while rescuing hostages deep behind enemy lines. Each time you free a hostage, they’ll join your team as a new, fully-customizable playable character. Rescue Mode features four procedurally-generated locations to loot and explore as well as four different weapon stores to buy new weapons and ammunition from. We created more than forty unlockable weapons — including rifles, shotguns, pistols, launchers, and melee weapons — to use in the fight against the penguin regime! We picked fun, iconic weapons and leveraged the unique traits of those weapons to make each work differently and cater to varying play styles. Through your inventory, you can select your primary and secondary weapons and can quickly swap between them during combat. The Thumper Gun launches bouncing grenades, but grenades aren’t great for battling in tight corners or for destroying turret sensors, so you might want to use the Sawed-off Double-barreled Shotgun as your secondary weapon. It has a decent shot spread and can fire both shots in quick succession before requiring a break-action reload. The Mossy Shotgun can fire ten cartridges, but you’ll need to pump the next cartridge into the chamber between shots. The Lead Storm is an automatic shotgun which uses a drum-styled magazine clip to quickly reload its cartridges and can rapidly fire off twenty rounds to destroy anything in its path. Certain weapon combinations kill enemies faster — everyone starts off with the Famous 5 (MP5) and two Deagles (Desert Eagle pistols). The pistols destabilize enemies quickly and get them into the air, but don’t do a lot of damage. Once destabilized, the enemy will take a lot more damage from your Famous 5. With enough practice, you can graduate to precise, single-shot rifles which do insane amounts of damage when you hit enemies in the head. In Rescue mode, stacking has a number of uses, such as picking up hostages and carrying them to the extraction point to complete a rescue mission. If your squad needs additional firepower, you can rent a duck mercenary to ride shotgun, stacked on your back during a mission. If you are knocked out, a teammate can scrape you off the floor and stack you on his or her back to keep you out of harm’s way until you regain consciousness. Or you can stack onto another player’s back and focus on aiming and firing — if everyone stacks, you can form a lumbering tower of death and become much harder to destabilize! Nothing beats pitting your combat skills and wits against real people, which you can do in the Dojo. The rules of the game are simple — bet a small ante to play and the winner takes it all! Between bouts, you’ll have a chance to change the two weapons you wish to bring into combat; however, once the battle starts, you’ll have to rely on your skills and training to win it like a boss! Some tips from the team at Ratloop: take the high ground so you’ll be shooting downwards at opponents’ heads and don’t get surrounded or caught in crossfire! Rocketbirds 2: Evolution will feature Cross Buy and Cross Save. Players can buy the game for one price and own it on both PS4 and PS Vita, with the ability to play and save on both systems for finger-licking fun! Look for Rocketbirds 2: Evolution on April 26 to get in on the fowl action! View the full article

  19. A few months back I was very happy to reveal that we would be releasing exclusive PlayStation DLC for LEGO Marvel’s Avengers based on Marvel’s Ant-Man. Now that we’ve finished up this exciting content, I’m thrilled to announce that Marvel’s Ant-Man Character & Level Pack will be available as a free download today, exclusively for PS4 and PS3. So let’s cut to the chase and get right to the reason why you should go and download the Ant-Man DLC pack now, other than the fact that it is absolutely free. First and foremost, the variety of playable characters in the pack is fantastic — you get Ant-Man (Scott Lang) with the ability to transform from Scott into his suit, shrink down and explore the inside of some of Pym Technologies’ computers, attack bad guys with your army of ants, and also grow into Giant-Man, who is brilliant — the team did a great job of bringing the character from big screen to your console. There are also various other characters like Darren Cross, who can don the Yellowjacket suit, Hank Pym, who has his own Ant-Man suit, Hope Van Dyne, Luis, The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne), and my own personal favorite character from the pack, Cassie Lang. Yes, she is that fun to play as, and if that wasn’t reason enough, you also get to fly around on Ant-Thony (Ant-Man’s Flying Ant). Players can also explore a new theatrical-based level inside Pym Technologies where you need to reach Yellowjacket. I won’t issue any spoilers here, but needless to say it’s packed with some really fun puzzles, trophies to unlock, and the pack is narrated by Luis himself — yes, the awesome Michael Peña has given his voice to his LEGO character to talk us through the story of the pack in a way that only Luis knows. Authentic original VO from Luis! Hearing his voice, the incredible Ant-Man theme music, and running through Pym Technologies to track down Darren Cross really makes this level a ton of fun and incredibly authentic. We at TT Games can’t wait for everyone to experience this pack, and we all hope that you have as much fun playing it as we’ve had making it. And, if you enjoy this free PlayStation-exclusive content, make sure to check out the LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Season Pass, which includes five other content packs based on Marvel properties. That includes Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Masters of Evil. Enjoy! View the full article

  21. Today’s the day — Dead Star is launching on PS4 and it’s free for PlayStation Plus members this month! Before you start your journey towards becoming the galaxy’s greatest pilot, we wanted to throw some tips your way. Dead Star is a 10-on-10 multiplayer shooter set on the fringes of known space, where teams of outlaws and scavengers fight for survival in a galactic prison known as The Wastes. Dead Star incorporates features from multiple modern genres, including RPGs and MOBAs, while remaining true to its roots in arcade-based space combat. Here are four quick tips as you head into battle. Choose Your ShipDead Star offers many different ships, each with its own unique set of powers and roles in combat, broken down into the following types: Scouts: These sleek, nimble ships are useful for exploration. They don’t have much combat power, but they can capture outposts four times faster than anything else. Raiders: A mix of speed and power, Raiders are formidable in combat and also pack double the cargo capacity — making them the ideal class for upgrading your bases. Frigates: The heavy hitters of Dead Star, Frigates pack a lot of health and offensive firepower at the cost of being among the slowest ships in the game. Every ship class has three alien variations — the type you choose depends on your preferred gameplay style. The Valant are your offensive-minded powerhouses, loaded full of weaponry that take the fight to your enemies and create havoc on the front-line. The Ithid are perfect for pilots who thrive on guerrilla tactics — their cloaking devices and teleportation allow for quick surprise attacks. The Estari are the support crew of the three races. These ethereal energy beings can repair damage to ships while also packing a serious punch with their lighting-based attacks. You can carry three ships into battle, from any race or any class, so choosing the perfect loadout is crucial! Battle for VictoryEach region of space in Dead Star is procedurally generated from a collection of asteroid belts, minefields, derelict space junkyards, and dozens of other obstacles, so gaining intel from early scouting is vital to your team’s performance. At the start of every match, your team’s main goal is exploring the region of space and capturing neutral outposts to establish your front line — victory can be achieved either by destroying your enemy’s Home Base or by earning a set amount of resources from captured outposts. Early captures can turn the tide of battle! Once you’ve captured an outpost, you’ll want to upgrade it using ore mined from asteroids within the region. Deposit enough ore into the outpost and you’ll unlock new features, including turret defenses, A.I. units you can commandeer to fly alongside your ship, or even sector-wide bonuses for your team. In addition to helping your team, upgrading outposts also earns you experience for your ship! Level Up and Upgrade Your ShipAs you battle for control of the region you’ll be earning experience for your ship by destroying enemy ships, capturing outposts, mining ore, or performing unique tactical actions. Earn enough experience and you’ll gain an upgrade point, which can be used to unlock new powers for your ship or improve powers you’ve already unlocked. Each ship has five unique systems that can be upgraded up to four times, improving everything from damage and defensive capabilities to general upgrades to your health, shields, and speed. Finding builds that complement your playstyle is important, but don’t worry if you don’t know where to start: we’ve incorporated an Automated Upgrade system that provides you with a build carefully selected by the dev team to keep you in the action and also learn each ship’s abilities. Earn LootAfter every match in Dead Star you’ll earn rewards based on your rating as an effective pilot in five different categories, ranging from how many enemy ships you’ve destroyed to how many bases you’ve upgraded. The higher your rating in each category, the rarer rewards you’ll receive — whether it’s a cosmetic skin for your favorite ship, a fancy new portrait for your pilot, or rare components you can use to permanently improve your ship’s abilities. Also keep an eye out for Contracts — these extremely rare rewards grant your crew access to a powerful Capital Ship used to invade a series of live player matches. If your crew can survive the battle against the Dead Star community, you’ll earn the rarest rewards in the galaxy! Think you’ve learned enough for your first battle? Join the fight in Dead Star today on PS4 as a free PS Plus download for April. Visit our official forums to share your favorite ship and provide us with your feedback. Good luck, pilots — we’ll see you on the battlefield! View the full article
  22. Enter the Gungeon, our bullet-hell dungeon-crawler — and Dodge Roll’s first game as a studio — is out today! That is a surreal sentence to type after two years of work. We are extremely excited to share our game with you. It has been quite the labor of love, filled with everything we love about videogames, and we really hope you enjoy the game as much as we do. To get you started, here are a few key tips every Gungeoneer should know! The most important tool in a Gungeoneer’s arsenal, other than guns of course, is the dodge roll. During the first half of the dodge roll, the player is invulnerable and can pass through bullets unharmed. Once he hits the ground he can be damaged again. Our hope was to make the timing feel familiar to fans of Bloodborne or Dark Souls, which is where we took inspiration for the mechanic. Mastering the roll is critical to mastering Enter the Gungeon! The other way to deal with the curtain of bullets coming at you is a type of consumable item called “Blanks.†Similar to a bomb in a SHMUP, these blue bullets can be used at any time to delete any enemy projectiles in the room, and are especially great against bosses. Don’t be afraid to use them — when you reach a new floor, if you have less than two of them, they will refill! Once you make it to the second floor a couple of times you will find Cadence and her golem friend OX. After being freed from captivity, they run a shop in the Breach where you can purchase new guns and items that will be permanently added to the loot pool. The currency used to purchase these unlocks drops off of bosses and can be viewed on the pause screen. Enter the Gungeon is a roguelike and rescuing NPC’s is one of the primary methods of player progression. Around half of the game’s 190 guns and 200 items will need to be unlocked in various ways, but the earliest is Cadence’s shop — so make sure to visit often! After doing a few runs and Cadence’s shop, you will find the Tinker character on the second floor. By talking to him and running some errands for him, you can unlock shortcuts that allow you to start on lower floors. To unlock co-op all you need to do is play one run of the game in single player. Once it has been unlocked, connect a second controller and have that person sign in. Then just go to the starting area, the “Breach,†and speak to the guy in the purple hood, and he will let you start co-op. You can play the entire game in co-op, though we highly recommend having each player train a bit in single player before diving into co-op. Knowing the game a bit can help you deal with the added chaos of having another player running around and shooting. That should be enough to get you (dodge) rolling! I can say without exaggeration that releasing a game on PlayStation is a dream come true for the whole team, and I can’t thank the lovely people at Devolver Digital and Sony enough for helping us make this happen. That said, release is not the end! Post launch we are committed to supporting the game with both bugfixes and content updates, specifically new guns, items, bosses, and rooms, to keep Enter the Gungeon’s replayability as high as possible. 23. Hey guys! My name’s Darren Hayward and I’m a Senior Games Designer on Dirt Rally. One of my main responsibilities over the last couple of years has been working out the best way for you all to play online together. I thought I’d give you a rundown of the challenges that you’ll find waiting for you to celebrate the launch of Dirt Rally today on PS4. Once you’ve found your feet in the game, grab your best set of Engineers, your fastest upgraded vehicles, and head over to Online Events — it’s where you’ll find all the top players hanging out in Dirt Rally. Here there’s a calendar of multiplayer rallies with each one populated by thousands of drivers like you from the Dirt community. These rallies are all completed asynchronously, meaning you don’t need to be online at the same time as the other drivers. Just get your entry in before the end of the event and you’re good to go. The headline feature for all of these events: there are no restarts. No restarts, no flashbacks, no second chances. Just like a real-life rally, every corner genuinely counts. I know that might sound intimidating, but the thing to remember is that when you crash out (and you will, we all do), you still get to the end of the stage for a finish. In the worst cases when you fail to finish, there’s always the next event to get stuck into. We feel like this system gives each event a sense of permanence, increasing the tension but reinforcing the feeling that your actions have consequences. If you’re still with me, I’ll break down the event types so you know what you’re up against. Daily EventsWe’ve tried to cater for all schedules with these events, whether you’re logging in for a quick 20-minute stage or an epic six-hour rally. The Daily events are the former, giving you an opportunity to test drive cars in the game before you invest your hard-earned credits. Each day is a new car on a new stage, with just 24 hours to log your time. There’s no need to own the car, so there’s no excuse for not entering. If you stack it, like I said earlier, you can always come back tomorrow! The Dirt Daily Live is a straightforward time-based rally featuring one car on one of the game’s 70+ stages. You’ll mostly be playing Rally, but RallyX and Hillclimb will both make an appearance once a week if you feel like dipping your toe in one of the other disciplines. The Delta event is based on the community average time for the featured stage. You’ll need to beat that average to get the top rewards from this one, but barring a serious crash or spin you should be able to manage without too much trouble. Wager Events are where we start toying with you a little bit. We won’t tell you the car or stage that you’re about to compete on, and we’ll ask for 100,000 CR up front as a stake. It’s then up to you to finish in one of the top tiers to make sure you get a return on your investment. The Owner’s Club event is the only daily stage that requires you to own the featured vehicle. You’ll be rewarded for your trouble, with extra CR on offer. You’ll also be able to tune your car. You know, since it’s yours. Weekly EventsThe two Weekly rallies are both six stages long, but one is not like the other. One will be a reasonably forgiving event, around one location, with reasonable rewards. The other will be much more taxing, with either brutal weather conditions or six long stages around three countries. If you can finish, the CR rewards are very generous indeed. We’ll be advertising the less punishing weekly rally through the PlayStation Events system, so be sure to drop by and register your interest each week. We’ll be looking for your screenshots on Twitter so check the event descriptions for more information. Monthly EventsThe Monthly event is the pinnacle of competition in Dirt Rally, requiring not just skill but also bottle and nerve. You’ll be up against an epic twentyfour stage rally that spans four countries around the globe. Remember these are still one shot events, so you’ll need to balance your push for the top spot against the risk of pushing too hard and having a rally-ending crash. We’re really excited about these events, and they’ve proven popular for the Dirt community. We can’t wait for you to join us on PS4 and show us what you’re made of. Be sure to drop by our official console community — Dirty Gossip — and let us know how you’re getting on. You’ll find several members of the development team there, including me, to compare times with. You can see the latest events schedule on the official site. Thanks for reading — I’ll be around to answer questions in the comments so let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy the game! View the full article

  25. Recently, Naughty Dog gave some nice people the opportunity to play a brief demo of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Luckily, they invited me too! Here’s a full playthrough of the demo, but be sure to read on afterward for my thoughts. First things first: the scope of Uncharted 4’s gameplay and exploration appears to be far, far larger than prior games in the series. Naughty Dog is describing this new approach as “wide linear,†and it allows for more freewheeling navigation without sacrificing the narrative-driven pacing the studio is famous for. Compared to past Uncharted games, Uncharted 4’s world feels truly huge and, well, uncharted. It’s beautiful, too. Everywhere I looked, I saw the fingerprints of Naughty Dog’s unmistakable artistry. While navigating a rented 4X4 up a perilous mountain trail, the tires dislodged rocks that tumbled down the hillside. Eep! Later, I slipped on a dirt hill and Drake’s jeans and shirt glistened with mud. Speaking of Drake, the veteran thief has never looked — or moved — better. After dropping from a tall height, he stumbles awkwardly; while pulling a winch, he smoothly passes the cable to his other hand when he changes direction; he even shifts gears in his 4×4 at the appropriate times. These tiny details stack up over time, steadily creating an illusion that you’re somehow controlling a real guy on a very ill-advised adventure. It’s uncanny. In the demo I played, Nate, Sam, and Sully navigated the treacherous backroads of Madagascar searching for outposts where legendary pirate Henry Avery may have hidden his treasure. At any point in the demo, I was able to hop out of the 4×4 to investigate ruins or search for collectible treasures scattered throughout the sprawling landscape. One detail I loved: When I left Sam and Sully in the 4×4, I listened to them trade quips and compare notes on treasure hunting as I prowled off in search of loot. Uncharted 4 is plastered with these tiny bits of narrative wallpaper, and based on what I played, the game is immeasurably richer for it. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End lands exclusively on PS4 on May 10 — if this demo was any indication, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride. View the full article
