  2. It’s almost time! This December 5th and 6th at PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, you’ll be surrounded by a sea of shiny new playable PlayStation games. But hidden amongst them, the panels, and all the announcements lurks a secret metagame that few of you will complete. Are you up for the challenge? At PlayStation Experience 2015, we’re introducing PlayStation Collectible Cards — think baseball cards except with way more aliens, superheroes, mechs, and tentacles. (And there’s an actual baseball card in the mix, now that I think about it.) PlayStation Collectible Cards represent some of the coolest brands and franchises in gaming, and we hope you enjoy snatching them up as much as we enjoyed making them for you. We’re releasing the first 35 cards of the series right here at PlayStation Experience 2015, though if you count the rare and common versions of certain cards, you will end up with 66 total. It’ll be next to impossible for anyone to collect them all, but I’m sure that won’t stop some of you from trying. Get Tickets & Book Hotel How do you nab these cards? Simple: Go play some games. We’re not revealing which booths or events will be giving them away, but you’ll find out just by exploring the show floor (or by asking for a little help from fellow attendees). As for tracking down those rare cards, you’ll have to figure that out on your own as well. Just make sure to look in your gift bag for a free tuckbox to store your new deck in! But there’s another, secret layer to this collectible game that we can’t reveal just yet. Let’s just say that you’ll want to poke your head in every corner of the Moscone West hall to unearth more precious collectibles. Stay tuned for more details. Please note: All PlayStation Collectible Cards are in limited supply. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. We’ll have lots more PlayStation Experience news to share with you soon. Coming in from out of town? Be sure to check out our discounted rates at quality San Francisco hotels located very close to the show. View the full article
  3. When the Star Wars Battlefront Beta fell into the hands of eager players, the heat of battle was a striking contrast to the freezing landscapes of Hoth. Ever since the planet was first shown in the original film trilogy, Hoth’s barren landscapes and the secluded Echo Base has been truly iconic and unmistakably Star Wars. Senior Environment Artist Pontus Ryman has spent a lot of time with the digital snow of Hoth, and after the Beta ended he was pleased by the community’s verdict of their experiences and his extensive work put into it. Let’s ask Pontus some questions, and you can also experience all the planets of Star Wars Battlefront in the new Star Wars Battlefront Planets Experience. What were the community reactions on Hoth after trying out Walker Assault in the Beta? We were quite overwhelmed by all the positive reactions to how our recreation of Hoth turned out. Our goal was to have players immersed in the gameplay and environment through the visual and audio aspects of the Hoth environment, and the fans really took this to heart. It’s been great to see players praising the fantasy of fighting in a real, snowy environment, feeling the chilly winds of Hoth. We’ve really been pushing for player interaction and immersion, with the harsh environment affecting all senses of the player in all the Star Wars Battlefront planets. We want to make the player feel connected to the planets, and I think this really comes through in the other Hoth map variations at launch, along with the other immersive planets. What was it like to capture the real world environment for Hoth? Hoth has always been about an epic battle within a vast, barren environment. I think we’ve captured both aspects quite well; you can traverse the huge landscape while it feels dangerously cold and barren, but when you hit the trenches or interiors you’ll witness chaos, sparks, and explosions. We’ve worked hard to portray what we felt and experienced during our research trip to the original filming location at Finse in Norway. The trips were incredibly tough physically, trudging through waist-high snow and extreme blizzards with tripods and equipment, with the icy temperatures taking its toll on both us and our cameras. What tools have been essential for creating Hoth? We’ve used the coincidentally named Frostbite engine for this, along with several other different tools and systems. One component we have developed is the ability to affect the world with weathering specific to each planet. This is used in a way to have the environment affect the player’s clothes, weapons, and props. For instance, the longer a player moves through a snowy environment, snow will gradually build up on the characters and their weapons, while the snow then starts to dissolve as they enter an interior. If an explosion goes off nearby the player their weapon and clothes will be covered in snow. This system extends through all of our environments, with other examples such as mud splashing up on characters in the Endor forest, only to be washed away when they run around in the river. This is just one example of new tools or techniques used to fully immerse the player in the environment. How did you tailor the planet to fit all Star Wars Battlefront game modes? Hoth, as we see it in Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back offers a great range of indoor and outdoor environments that play very well to our gameplay needs, but we also expanded on this to introduce other interesting locations for different gameplay modes. A close-quarter game mode like Blast or Cargo makes perfect sense in the tighter Hoth caves and Rebel Base, while the larger prominently outdoor environments designed to portray a more chaotic battle like Walker Assault and Supremacy is a great fit for the classic vast landscapes of Hoth. You can expect to experience a lot of variety when playing on all the Hoth maps across the various game modes Star Wars Battlefront has to offer. Pack a blaster and your warmest Rebel or Imperial uniform and we’ll see you on this frozen battlefront starting on November 17th. View the full article
  4. When Transformers: Devastation was announced, long-time fans were understandably excited. The Generations-inspired visuals and PlatinumGames’ distinctive combat mechanics are a perfect pairing, like pizza and video games. And the fact that many of the original actors reprise their iconic roles after such a lengthy hiatus makes Transformers: Devastation even more significant. It’s the game that Transformers aficionados have been waiting for. But the Transformers universe is massive, containing dozens of highly specialized robots. And after spending so much time perfecting Devastation’s five playable characters, the folks at PlatinumGames wanted to dig a little deeper into the franchise’s catalog. So, they put together a swanky DLC pack, containing a trio of character skins and three Decepticon-destroying weapons. Here’s the rundown: Nemesis Prime and the Dark Star SaberAnyone who’s familiar with Transformers lore could probably give you a little backstory about Optimus’ human-made clone, Nemesis Prime. He has all of Optimus Prime’s strength, but he’s controlled by the evil Decepticons, so he lacks Optimus’ principles. Though, he does have tinted-red windows and a slick, black paint job. So, he looks sweet. And instead of Optimus’ trademark Energon-axe, Nemesis wields the Dark Star Saber, a glowing sword that quickly reduces enemies to scrap. Nobody makes a purple sword look better than Nemesis Prime. Red Alert and the Photon DisruptorRed Alert is the Autobot’s Security Director, but he’s a little on the paranoid side. In Transformers: Devastation, he makes up for that paranoia with the Photon Disruptor, a powerful weapon that gives him an advantage during ranged battles. Goldfire and the Golden HunterBumblebee is one of the friendliest-looking characters in the Autobot lineup, but his Goldfire skin gives him a slightly more threatening appearance. And when he whips out the Golden Hunter Weapon, a pair of highly polished hand cannons, Bumblebee becomes downright dangerous. Even though the weapons have been personalized for Goldfire, Red Alert, and Nemesis Prime, they can be equipped by any of the playable characters. So, if you want to see Wheeljack take on Devastator with the Dark Star Saber, go right ahead. The Transformers: Devastation DLC will hit PlayStation Store on November 10th. View the full article

  6. Hello, Bloodborne fans. The brand new nightmare, The Old Hunters expansion (which requires the full game), will be unleashed on November 24th. It brings with it a host of new content and improvements, but it’s not the only exciting news for Bloodborne. An upcoming patch will offer all players exciting new features in the original game, including The League, additional co-op NPC hunters, and more. The League is a band of Hunters who have taken an oath and are bound by a single purpose. By aligning yourself to The League, led by a mysterious figure in a constable’s garb and bucket helmet, you can assist other players online in the game and compete in The League’s online rankings leaderboard. In addition to The League, players will also be able to use The League cane and summon co-op NPCs within the game, perfect for tackling challenging areas and bosses. To whet your appetite for the upcoming expansion, here is a sneak preview of one of the many brand new weapons available as part of The Old Hunters. Behold the Holy Moonlight Sword. Do you have what it takes to wield its mysterious power? Don’t forget you can pre-order The Old Hunters here before November 24th to get a bonus PS4 Theme. Or if you haven’t played Bloodborne yet, get the game plus pre-order the DLC for just $49.99 right here. As a special treat for all you hardcore Bloodborne players who have already earned your Platinum Trophy, or are close to unlocking it: in the very near future we will be sending out voucher codes for an exclusive PS4 theme to Platinum Trophy holders. There’s no other way to get your hands on this theme other than to master the game. Stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for additional information about the patch and The Old Hunters expansion DLC. 7. Hello again! I’ve spoken in-depth about the concept behind Alone With You before right here on the PlayStation.Blog, but today I want to show you some more concrete information on gameplay with this new trailer, and tell you when you can finally play this special new game. Here’s a quick recap if this is all news to you: Alone With You is a single-player, sci-fi adventure game for PS4 and PS Vita, and it has a pretty unique romance element. It’s the follow-up to my previous game, Home, which is a horror game devoted entirely to letting you tell your own twisted story through its narrative-based adventure mechanics (it’s available right now cross buy on PS4 and Vita as well). If Home was a monologue that you, the player, got to deliver, then Alone With You is a dialogue between you and the game — you’ll be constantly interacting with, and relying on, your AI companion as you embark on missions to get items and info you need to escape a doomed terraforming colony deep in space. Watch the brand-new gameplay trailer and you’ll spot a few things — another of sound designer Ivor Stines’ groovy in-game tunes, and the mood-setting new level art by background artist Gavin McCarthy. You’ll also see what you’ll be doing throughout the game’s 12+ missions: exploring ruined environments of your failed colony, interacting with the world to solve puzzles and discover information, and scanning important items that your AI needs. You’ll trek through beautiful, varied areas — which include a series of communication towers, the dilapidated Colony B, the workspaces and staff quarters of the facility’s agricultural operation, and the various components of the planet’s mining and processing centres. As you do so, you’ll be in constant communication with the AI, who acts as your lifeline and your tour guide. It’ll give you info on all the things and places you find, but it’ll also speak to you — asking you questions and responding to your answers. And if you’ve ever played Home, you’ll know: sometimes even the smallest decision can have unexpected consequences. But the AI isn’t the only other character you’ll have contact with. There are four people you’ll become intimately familiar with: Winnie Laurier, the colony’s comms expert; Pierre Tong, its genius director; Leslie Bharadwaj, the Agro-Domes chief, and Jean Lumumba, the facility’s resource manager. There’s a catch, though: they’re all dead. Through the magic of the colony’s holo-sim chamber, you’ll visit these four key people posthumously as you complete your missions. By speaking with them, you’ll learn more about the colony before the disaster, and about their personal lives — how deeply, of course, depends on you. Alone With You’s romance element is, as you might expect, a little different. You don’t manage stats, and you don’t need to grind extracurricular activities to try to make time with your favorite people. As you play, you’ll get to know all four of these important colonists — but at times, you’ll also choose to spend some extra processing cycles with whoever most catches your fancy. And as with Home, this is a story that you control — what you do within the various missions affects these “dates†and vice versa. Alone With You is a game that listens to you as much as you listen to it. So when can you finally get your hands on Alone With You? Spring 2016 — a little later than I’d originally planned, but it’s the perfect time for a brand new story of love and adventure. But you can get your hands on the game sooner than that — if you’re attending PlayStation Experience in San Francisco in December, you’ll be able to play a special demo and see what romance is like at the end of the world, all for yourself. 10. Hello, everyone! Today I’m here to tell you about our newest game Poncho — a fascinating new platformer that launches today on PS4. Poncho is a game that we at Rising Star Games saw and instantly fell in love with. After seeing Poncho’s grin-inducing aesthetic and giddy mix of genres we knew it was something we had to snap up! Made by the talented three-man team at Delve Interactive, Poncho is an open-world, parallax platformer with some seriously grand ambitions. Now I know what you’re thinking — what the heck is a parallax platformer? Good question, attentive PS Blog reader! What we call parallax platforming is the result of Poncho’s unique ability to manipulate depth, allowing him to hop between the background, midground, and foreground of the game at will. This interesting gameplay mechanic demands that the player possesses a knack for platforming precision as well as some puzzle solving smarts, resulting in a mechanic that is easy to understand but difficult to master. It turns out though, that Delve Interactive weren’t content with implementing just one awesome mechanic (I told you they were ambitious), so they also decided to build a completely open world for players to explore! The guys at Delve Interactive understand that as well as brilliant visuals and gameplay, the world its characters inhabit has to feel alive. Poncho achieves this by allowing players to interact with every little creature they see, with every area in the game containing randomly generated ecosystems of mysterious beings and robots that react to every movement Poncho makes. Unsurprisingly, Delve Interactive also weaved a wonderful story into the world of Poncho. The premise behind Poncho starts with a robot, which you find waking with no memory in a strange, and desolate world, with nothing on his person but a strange and ancient artifact from a bygone era — a red poncho. The little red Poncho quickly becomes the robot’s namesake and our hero goes on a journey to discover what tragedy has befallen the world around him. The soundtrack is also a huge part of what makes Poncho such a fun and immersive gaming experience. An amazing chiptune score composed by co-designer Jack Odell brings even more life and personality to the detailed pixel-drawn world. As you can tell, the whole Rising Star Games team are very excited about the game’s release today — and we hope that you enjoy the game as much as we do. Thank you very much for reading about Poncho… now go and play it! Enjoy! View the full article

  13. Hey, everyone! It’s finally time! After three long years of nonstop development by five indie developers, Dragon Fin Soup is finally ready to be served! For those of you who haven’t heard of Dragon Fin Soup, you can check out our previous PS Blog posts here and here, or just let us give you a refresher Dragon Fin Soup is a tactical-action RPG with roguelike elements set in a twisted tongue-in-cheek fairytale world. Inspired by those ingredients, the game features a 2D top-down camera and fluid turn-based movement that allows you to set the pace. Dragon Fin Soup seamlessly blends genres to create a fresh experience: half story-driven tactical RPG and half high-stakes roguelike, with a pinch of crass humor and a heaping helping of murder & madness set in a procedurally generated fantasy world. Meet Red Robin, a charming, raging alcoholic bounty hunter who would rather get into a bar fight than deliver baked goods. Players must take up Robin’s blades and set out across Asura — a lushly colorful, fantasy world that sits on the back of an enormous space turtle — on a journey to discover the secrets of her bloody past. Warning: This game is not for the casual player and can be highly addictive! We really went overboard with Dragon Fin Soup and threw in everything we found fun: Superfluid turn-based tactical combat Raging alcoholic bounty hunter heroine Traces of dark majesty from the original Grimm tales New procedurally-generated world each time you play Mercenaries for hire and awesome pets to collect Over 60+ hours of gameplay in Story, Survival, and Labyrinth modes Gorgeous 2D world, all created by award winning artist Randis Albion Dragon Fin Soup is the first of what we hope to be many RPGs we create and share with you. With your patronage and support we will continue to expand the world of Dragon Fin Soup and listen to your feedback. To show our everlasting appreciation, enjoy these HD wallpapers painted by Randis Albion! You can download them here. We are very excited to finally be launching our baby and hope you enjoy Dragon Fin Soup as much as we enjoyed making it. If you’re on the fence as to whether Dragon Fin Soup is right for you, have no fear! Here is a candid in-depth gameplay showcase from PAX Rising 2015. View the full article

  15. Hi, I’m Joe Faulstick from 2K – and I’m excited to officially reveal that we’ve been working hard on bringing a great, strategic experience to PS Vita on December 3 with Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 Plus. If you’re not familiar with the Civilization Revolution games, but love turn-based strategy, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Basically, in Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 Plus, you can build up a civilization from scratch with an interface designed specifically for touchscreens and consoles, or follow along with specific scenarios and see how well you fair against historical world leaders. Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 Plus, coming exclusively to PS Vita, introduces a number of scenarios, units and world leaders coming from Japan’s history that you won’t find anywhere else. In one particular scenario (“Journey to the Westâ€), you’ll use TaiZong against Saladin (AI) to capture Byzantium. The other scenarios, “Wrath of Emperor Kublai,†“Samurai Invasion of Korea,†“Z-flag Swirls,†and “Dark Clouds in the Pacific†all take place at different points in Japanese history. And the same goes for the new Japanese leaders we introduce in this game: Oda Nobunaga: Focused on medieval era/samurai bonus Heihachiro Togo: Naval combat related bonuses Himiko: More diplomatic related, governmental related bonuses Personally, my favorite is the new Japanese unit – the Yamato battleship. If you’re a history buff like me (or just have fond memories of the Anime, Space Battleship Yamoto / Star Blazers), this unit is particularly cool. For reference, the Yamato class ships of Imperial Japanese Navy World War II battleships were feared on the open sea. They were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tons at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 inch) 45 Caliber Type 94 main guns. (From Wikipedia). In our game though, the Yamato has much improved attack strength, at the cost of compromised defense capability, compared to normal battleships. Anyway, if you’re ready to conquer the world, one bus stop (or plane ride) at a time, keep an eye on PlayStation Store‎ for Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 Plus. View the full article
  16. The brutal pace and ferocious gunplay in the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer suite was recently detailed by one of Naughty Dog’s Lead Game Designers Robert Cogburn here on PlayStation.Blog. But his team’s work was perhaps best showcased by this increasingly out-of-control footage that debuted during the PlayStation press conference at Paris Games Week. Uncharted 4 drew long lines on the show floor as players sampled the competitive component for the first time, and I was happily among them. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End | PlayStation.com This early build of Uncharted 4 competitive packed in characters from across the Uncharted series — a crucial pillar in Naughty Dog’s approach to multiplayer this time around. Nate, Sully, Elena, Cutter, and other familiar faces smirked and scowled from the loading screen. Although the final version of the game will have a more robust loadout editor, I picked “support†(I do love being helpful) and brought Elena into the field (#TeamElena). As Cogburn illustrated in his post, the biggest new additions to the Uncharted multiplayer are the Sidekicks, Mysticals, and the grappling hook. All things that I failed at using properly while being shot in the neck. Matches are immediately compelling, as teams move through maps together and establish “fronts†in order to exchange fire and explosives with the opposing side. This highlights Naughty Dog’s map design, which facilitates intense battles between sides and an ever-changing firefight that makes nearly every moment worthwhile. Ducking and weaving behind cover, opening fire on your enemies, leaping from the lethal range of a grenade — all of it felt great right from the start. As was the case with previous Naughty Dog games, Uncharted 4 demands teamwork (and competency) from its players. A team of stray soldiers will be gunned down in seconds, whereas a coordinated group can move fluidly through cover, help downed friendlies, and survive the match much more efficiently. The Paris Games Week demo only scratched the surface of what Uncharted 4 multiplayer has to offer. If you want to try it for yourself, you can play the beta on December 4th with a purchase of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, or swing by PlayStation Experience in San Francisco and come play with us! I’ll be the one dying a lot. View the full article
  17. Hi everyone, I’m pleased to be back on the PlayStation.Blog to give you a heads up about how we’re celebrating Halloween with Until Dawn. The latest update to Until Dawn has added 11 hidden pumpkins throughout the game that will only appear around Halloween. We’re challenging you to find them all. They aren’t all easy to find and you might have to move the camera around to spot all of them. If you find one, take a screenshot and tag it with #UntilDawnPumpkin. We’ll be keeping an eye on how many people spot them and will retweet some of our favourites – so get searching! Until Dawn | PlayStation.com We’ll also be doing a Director’s Commentary live-stream on October 30th through the PlayStation Events introduced in version 3.0 of the system software. Tune in to watch us play Until Dawn and talk about how we created certain scenes and what we were trying to achieve. The guys at PlayStation have also created a new Until Dawn theme for PS4 being released for free just in time for Halloween. Have a happy Halloween all! View the full article
  18. Hi PlayStation fans, After invading E3 earlier this year, Xenos have now descended upon Paris Games Week. So many exciting announcements have been made that I think I might even have died and gone to heaven already! Playing Alienation live on stage at the PlayStation press conference was initially a somewhat terrifying prospect. The game was so cool to play on that huge screen that after just a few seconds of play I never wanted it to end! Our goal for Alienation is simply to create the definitive top-down shooter with awesome visual effects and layers of gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. The game is designed to encourage players to work together, combining their skills and firepower to avoid getting caught in a situation as shown in the image below. In Alienation, up to four players can join forces online, each assuming the role of a Bio-Specialist, Exo-Skeleton or Saboteur. There are tons of things to shoot and loot as you blast Xenos in chaotic firefights in order to complete a variety of interesting mission objectives and campaign goals, designed with collaboration in mind. Here is a trailer that we created to show you more… Alienation | PlayStation.com If you watch the trailer very carefully you might just spot a secret cypher that we’ve not been able to decode ourselves and would love to hear about on Twitter at #alienationps4. Another highlight of the week for me was of course the announcement of yet another new Housemarque game called MatterFall that I have seen brought to life from sketches made by our artists made just a few months back. Last but not least, the positive feedback and recognition that our friends at PlayStation extended to Housemarque during the presentation is hugely appreciated. It really is an amazing coincidence that the 20th anniversary of both PlayStation and Housemarque are in the same year and it is a huge privilege for me to work with such amazingly talented people, both at Housemarque and PlayStation. 19. Hi PlayStation fans, It’s been a great week for gaming news! Lots of wonderful announcements from Paris Games Week, and so many things to look forward to. We’re once again humbled that Sony asked for our game, Shadow of the Beast, to be in attendance amongst such illustrious company. On the gameplay side, we’ve been very lucky to get lots of feedback from people who took the time to play our previous demo at various shows, and we’ve been working out how best to use that to improve the game. To that end, we’ve been iterating and tweaking our combat system further, as well as making adjustments to help the platforming flow better. We’re trying our best to make sure that the combat in particular has layers to discover and that truly mastering the game is going to be something players can enjoy doing as they uncover the secrets of Aarbron’s world. So with immense nervousness, but quiet excitement, we’d like to share a new trailer with you. Hopefully fans of the original game will spot a few nods to familiar locations, and also some new things to make the return to Karamoon an exciting prospect! Thank you again for looking at the game, we’re still working hard to improve it and hope to share more news with you as soon as we can. Yours gratefully, Matt and the team at Heavy Spectrum View the full article
  20. Earlier in the year at E3, we unveiled a brand new game in the Nier franchise coming exclusively to PS4 in 2016. Today, we’re proud to unveil not only the official title of the game but also first ever gameplay footage! I’m sure you guys have lots of questions about Nier: Automata, so let’s get you all up to speed. What is Nier: Automata? The original Nier is a very unique action RPG that struck a chord with many passionate gamers when it came out five years ago. The story revolves around the main protagonist Nier as he searches for a cure for his daughter who is infected with the Black Scrawl virus, a seemingly incurable disease. To this day, gamers around the world still talk about Nier fondly and the soundtrack and design book are still selling so there’s clearly something special about it. If you haven’t played the original Nier, do try and track down a copy because it has one of the most memorable and emotional casts, stories, and music in recent memory. Nier: Automata is the next game in the Nier franchise and it’s a collaboration between Square Enix and PlatinumGames. You probably recognize PlatinumGames’ distinct action style in the gameplay trailer but if you look closely, you’ll be able to spot gameplay elements from the original Nier as well. It’s still an action RPG so don’t worry if you want more RPG mechanics in the game, they’re still there! What is the story in Nier: Automata?Earth has suddenly been invaded by beings from another planet and mechanical life forms with overwhelming power were used as weapons of war which forced mankind to flee to the moon. In order to take back the earth, a resistance force of android warriors has been created by humanity to fight these invaders. The world that you see in Nier: Automata is one where androids and mechanized weapons clash in ferocious combat in a barren and deserted wasteland. It’s set after the original game but the story is written in a way which means you don’t have to have played the first one. The world/universe is still linked between the two Nier games though so if you have played the original, you will no doubt recognize some of the locations and characters who may or may not be returning. The locations in particular will look different as they’re now more like ruins after the alien invasion but there will also be areas where you get the sense of a very advanced civilization. Most of the story is still shrouded in mystery though so there’s more to look out for and discover further down the line. Who is the female character in the gameplay trailer? She’s not actually female, or maybe it’s more accurate to say she’s not actually human. Her name or serial number is 2B and she’s an android. In the world of Nier, there are strict rules meaning this kind of android is not allowed to have emotions. However, each different model has its own quirks and characteristics and 2B has a comparatively cold and level headed personality. Keen fans and eagle-eyed readers might have noticed that at the end of the E3 announcement trailer there were three words that popped up — “doll,†“human,†and “machine†so there were hints from the start… Who is behind Nier: Automata?Fans of the original Nier will be happy to know that all of the key members of the creative team are back for Nier: Automata! Below is a quick rundown of who is who on the team. Yoko Taro (Creative Director) & Yosuke Saito (Producer) I don’t think it would be a proper Nier game if Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito weren’t involved! They are the original duo behind the first Nier game. Keiichi Okabe (Composer) Keiichi Okabe was the composer of the first Nier and the music is such an integral part to the game. It really helped shape and form the games identity so it was really important to the team to get Keiichi Okabe on board for Nier: Automata. Akihiko Yoshida (Character Designer) Akihiko Yoshida has worked on many monumental Square Enix games like Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Vagrant Story among others. Yosuke Saito actually suggested Akihiko Yoshida as the character designer for Nier: Automata as a crazy idea as expected him to say no and turn the idea down. Yoko Taro is also a big fan of his work and as luck would have it, the CEO of the company that Mr. Yoshida is affiliated with is a hardcore Nier fan so this really helped getting him on board with Nier: Automata! PlatinumGames (Developer) Of course, I should give a special mention to the team at PlatinumGames who are developing the game! You’re probably already aware of who they are but they’re the developers behind incredible games such as Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Yoko Taro describes them as “really young, talented hotshots†and when it comes to action gameplay, they are world class, so it’s super exciting to see their contributions to the gameplay. Yoko Taro also moved to Osaka for this project and practically lives in the PlatinumGames studio which is about 400km away from his actual home. It’s all for the greatness that is Nier: Automata though! So that is a brief introduction to Nier: Automata! I hope you guys like what you’ve seen so far. There’s plenty more to show and talk about the game so do keep an eye out for future updates. If you’ve got any questions, I’ll be sure to try my best to answer them in the comments. 22. Earlier this week in Paris, famed game creator Michel Ancel presented the upcoming open world Wild with a deep-set grin. His enthusiasm and passion for the project echo in Wild’s dizzying vistas, and his team’s purpose is clear: empower players to traverse a beautiful, dangerous world. Let them attune with the forces of nature. And grant them dominion over animals of all shapes and sizes. In Wild, players live life as a male or female shaman, fighting to survive a world rife with predators, poison, and even bone-wearing cannibals. Ancel’s goal is to begin the story when the shaman is young, and follow him as his power and experience grows over time. With each new animal that the shaman learns to control, a new tattoo is etched across the character’s skin. This will help showcase a player’s experience where multiplayer is concerned. Different shamans will display their spiritual wisdom with different markings. As some may have seen during the PlayStation press conference at Paris Games Week, the shaman will come to understand new animal types by communing with powerful animal divinities. We’ve seen the serpent divinity so far, manifested as a seductive, cunning woman spotted with scales. These divinities will ask things of the shaman in exchange for their power, from making a sacrifice to living life as their animal subjects. These meetings (and their subsequent trials) will surely be a highlight of Wild’s open-ended gameplay. But Ancel wants to ensure that they avoid the common RPG structure that so many players have come to expect. The “Do X to be a good guy†direction is avoided in favor of complete player choice. Will the shaman start life by learning to control small animals like frogs? Or will he work harder to master stronger animals like wolves or bears? The choice is entirely up to the player. The moment to moment play in Wild is a mix of survival and exploration. Players can traverse the land as the shaman, or call animal companions to ride (like the bear we saw in Paris). The shaman can also “possess†animals that he has previously mastered, seeing the world from their unique perspectives. Observe far-off terrain from the eyes of a hawk, or scout cannibal tribes undetected as a rabbit. Players can even lure predators by controlling sheep. But leave the shaman’s body unprotected, and death may come swiftly while his spirit is away. Wild is still early in development, and Ancel did not show multiplayer in Paris. He notes that he’s been inspired by the multiplayer element of Bloodborne, and he hopes to bring similar ideas to Wild, like enabling gamers to invite other players into their worlds to either help or hinder their progress. Wild is gorgeous in both its visuals and its creative vision. As Ancel’s team continues to build out the world, the promise of the shaman’s journey grows — and we eagerly await meeting new divinities who will grant us dominion over the wild. 23. Hello, PlayStation community. We hope you enjoyed the live playthrough of our Horizon Zero Dawn reveal demo during the Paris Games Week Press Conference. There’s a lot more to this early slice of the game than we had time to showcase. Luckily, we’ve created a video to offer you a more detailed look at a demo that prior to this week had only been seen behind closed doors. We appreciate all of your support and feedback and we’re eager to share more of our fantastic world as soon as we can. There is a lot more to show! In addition, we have another video that we created just for the blog, showing how our reveal trailer came together. You can see how some shots made it into the trailer almost intact, whereas others changed in subtle ways. We hope you enjoy this inside look at our creative process. That’s all for now, and we hope those of you who attend Paris Games Week have a great show. View the full article
  24. Who killed Harris Bullard? Delve into a dead man’s bizarre past to solve the mystery of his death before you become the next victim. Dead Secret will land on PS4 and PS3 in January 2016 and later on PlayStation VR. Harris Bullard, a reclusive man with a mysterious past, was found dead in his study five days ago. Nobody suspects foul play, least of all the police. But you know better — this is murder, and it’s up to you to prove it. Designed for console and VR, Dead Secret is a mystery thriller in which you play as an ambitious journalist on a mission to make headlines. To get the story, you’ll have to comb the crime scene for clues and decipher the mystery of Bullard’s twisted past. Uncover secret documents, explore the dead man’s home, and piece together the puzzle to name the killer. But keep your wits about you — Bullard took his secrets to the grave, and somebody wants them to stay there. Dead Secret has been in development for several years. The project began in 2013 and has gone through many iterations and mutations. In 2014, the team at Robot Invader decided to focus on VR, a change which required them to rip Dead Secret apart and piece it back together bit by bit. The result is a uniquely hybrid game, one designed specifically for virtual reality yet firmly connected to its console roots. Dead Secret is also the product of many years of research into the inner workings of horror and mystery games.
