Hello, Bloodborne fans! The Old Hunters expansion will soon be bringing a brand new nightmare world of dangers and horrors for you to conquer, not to mention a host of new weapons and armor for your arsenal. If you haven’t yet, pre-order on PlayStation Store by Monday to get a special bonus PS4 theme. That way you can have it equipped when The Old Hunters launches on Tuesday for $19.99. Keep reading for more information about the expansion and how to access it within the game, as well as details about the new content and updated online features in the 1.07 title update hitting today (title update available to all Bloodborne players). As outlined in previous blog posts, as well as the website, The Old Hunters introduces many new horrific environments and enemies, as well as devastating new weapons and abilities. Bloodborne | PlayStation.com Brador, seen donning the scalp and horns of a foul beast, is an ancient Hunter and assassin once employed by the Healing Church who sits in a dark cell, waiting for something—or someone—with bell in hand. And while exploring the new nightmare, beware of the Bell Holder. This massive enemy wields the Bell Axe and is one of the most formidable beasts you will face. I’m also excited to share information about two new weapons available in The Old Hunters expansion. The first is the Bloodletter, a sick and demented weapon wielded by Brador. This weapon assumes its true form after drawing upon the blood of its wielder. In other words, you must plunge it into your own chest in order to unleash its true power. You will also find the Gatling Gun, a portable version of the stationary rapid-fire gun that Djura uses to rain down lead from the tower in Old Yharnam. While it is great for rapid-fire attacks, it is also cumbersome and goes through Quicksilver Bullets very quickly. Players will also discover a new rune called The Beast’s Embrace. After many failed experiments, this rune was forbidden from use. That did not stop its discovery from becoming the foundation of the Healing Church, however. Those brave, or foolish, enough to unleash the power of this rune take on a ghastly form and enjoy boosted transformation effects, especially when wielding a beast weapon. Once you have purchased and downloaded The Old Hunters expansion, you’ll need to follow the below steps to access the new content. Step 1Defeat the boss of the Cathedral Ward and examine the altar in the back of the room to change the in-game time to night. Step 2Go to the Hunter’s Dream and receive the Eye of a Blood-drunk Hunter from a messenger. Step 3Go to the Oedon Chapel and leave via the left-hand exit to enter the square. Step 41. Go to the right-hand end of the square to trigger an event. This event will take you to the new area: the Hunter’s Nightmare. 2. Lighting the lamp in the new area will allow you to travel to and from the area via an Awakening Headstone in the Hunter’s Dream. Prior to the launch of the DLC, all Bloodborne owners will receive title update 1.07, which adds new features and drastically changes the online component of the game. The patch goes live today, so remember to update your game and try out the new features. As mentioned in our last blog post, update 1.07 also adds the “League†feature and introduces new NPCs into the game’s world. Join the League by meeting with Summon Master Valtr and obtaining the “Impurity†rune. You’ll need to summon him inside the shack to the right of the first lamp in the Forbidden Forest. Once you have memorized the “Impurity†rune, you will be able to access League ranking screens. Upon successfully completing a coop session, you’ll receive the “Vermin†which you must crush to increase your points and therefore your position on the League leaderboard. You will also be able to summon NPCs to come to your aid, just like cooperative play, including inside Chalice Dungeons. To do so, first you will need to acquire the “Old Hunter Bell†from the messengers in the Hunter’s Dream area. In some areas you may be able to summon up to two NPC Hunters, or a mix of one NPC Hunter and one other online coop player. In addition, when there are players near you that have used the Beckoning Bell or Small Resonant Bell and are waiting to join a coop session, they will appear in your game as an illusion or phantom with a ripple effect at their feet. That assumes they are within the correct level range and would be able to match with you. View the full article

As we near the end of 2015 there’s one thing we can all look forward to… No, it’s not the holidays, but Capcom Cup! That’s right, this year’s Capcom Cup will send Ultra Street Fighter IV off in the grandest event possible as 32 of the world’s best meet in San Francisco at PlayStation Experience on December 6th to fight for their piece of the $250,000 prize pool! If you’ve been following the Capcom Pro Tour, then you know that players from around the world have been traveling from country to country, continent to continent, trying to secure their spot at Capcom Cup or gather enough points for one of the 15 spots available in the 32 man finals. Now that the dust is just about settled (with the last spot to be decided at Dreamhack Winter this November 26th – 29th), Capcom Cup 2015 is shaping up to be the greatest competitive Street Fighter tournament of the last decade! For those of you wondering what the schedule, bracket format, and prize distribution for Capcom Cup is, allow me to provide that information below: Payout 1st: $125,000 2nd: $60,000 3rd: $25,000 4th: $15,000 5th & 6th: $10,000 (each) 7th & 8th: $5,000 (each) Schedule 10:00 AM — Opening Ceremony 10:30 AM — Round 1 and 2 2:00 PM — Analyst Desk 2:30 PM — Top 16 to Top 8 5:30 PM — Analyst Desk / Break 6:30 PM — Top 8 9:30 PM — Closing / Awards Ceremony The bracket will be double elimination, best two out of three matches up to top 16. From there, all matches will be best three out of five. With 32 of the world’s best Street Fighter players all under one roof, we expect every single match to be beyond hype. That said, this year we’ll have two streams available for those of you watching from home so that you won’t miss any of the high profile matches going down! We recommend viewers tune into the Capcom Pro Tour site for the ultimate experience as they will be able to follow both streams as well as the Capcom Cup brackets once the action goes live. Tickets are still on sale, so if you can make it to San Francisco during that time, be sure to come! Remember you’ll need to buy either the two-day pass or the Sunday Only pass in order to watch Capcom Cup. Needless to say, after this year’s extensive and challenging Capcom Pro Tour season, there will be no disputing that this year’s Capcom Cup champion is the best player in the world! Our tiny team has some giant news! Jenny LeClue – Detectivú will be launching on PS4 next year! Now stop reading and watch the teaser trailer, seriously! We’ve put a ton of love into crafting a compelling universe. You’ll know right away if our cute and creepy adventure is right for you! You’re still here, great! So let’s uncover what Jenny LeClue is, what makes it so special, and why you might want to play it. Jenny LeClue is a story-focused exploration adventure game with memorable characters, a unique aesthetic, and an epic, tangled mystery. You play as Jenny, a brilliant young detective living in Arthurton. Nothing exciting happens in her small town and she longs for real adventure. She gets more than she bargains for when her mother is accused of murder. Jenny takes on the case of a lifetime and begins an unexpected, dangerous journey to uncover the truth; she soon discovers that nothing in Arthurton is what it seems. Unseen forces will stop at nothing to keep her from the truth. And she will have to use her skills of deduction to find the real killer. Who can she trust? How will she outwit the ever watchful Sheriff? Why has the lake started glowing at night? And why does everyone keep treating her like a kid? This is a coming of age tale. Sometimes funny, sometimes scary, always mysterious. It’s a story about finding our strengths, accepting our weaknesses, and the blurred lines between right and wrong. So what makes Jenny LeClue unique? Jenny LeClue weaves a story-within-a-story where the players influence the outcome. Jenny’s world exists in a series of adventure books that author Arthur K. Finklestein has created. The author acts as narrator and guide. Together, you, Jenny, and the author all influence each other. Players will make choices in their individual game, and some of those choices will permanently affect the way we write later chapters. So we all own a part in creating Jenny’s story! Jenny LeClue is a strong female protagonist, surrounded by a diverse cast of characters. She’s a brilliant young detective, sharp eyed, intuitive and a ruthless pursuer of the truth. As Jenny, you will rely on your keen detective’s intuition during conversations. Search suspects for revealing clues, proving their guilt or innocence and opening new dialogue options. Stylistically, we’ve focused on creating a sleek and gorgeous hand drawn style with atmospheric charm. The art reflects Jenny’s mid-century world. She won’t be relying on her smartphone to look up answers on Wikipedia! Arthurton is a rich, living world, that rewards players’ curiosity with insight, secrets, and humor. You’ll explore the abandoned mines and the forgotten graveyard. You’ll skip stones by the lake, and break into the museum to uncover dark truths. We envision Jenny LeClue as a trilogy that rewards exploration and curiosity at every turn. And after a successful Kickstarter, we’ve been crafting Jenny LeClue for more than a year. Our core team of three comes from a storytelling, design, and animation background. We’re crafting a narrative thick with atmosphere and emotion, inspired by our love for mystery, adventure, and the weird. As you can tell, we’re super excited to bring the game to PS4! It’s such a vibrant platform for indie games and we’re excited to be a part of it! We’re making cool interactions using the unique features of PS4. We hope to talk more about the game design, story, and art direction in future posts. If you are attending Playstation Experience, stop by our booth for exclusive swag, witty banter, and to play Jenny LeClue! What else would you like to know about Jenny LeClue and our team? We’d love to hear any questions you have. View the full article

It had been a long time coming, so when the MidBoss team decided to form a game studio and asked me to be the Director and Lead Artist, things just kind of slid into place. We had just finished running the first of what became the annual GaymerX convention, so the words “make your own games†were still ringing in our ears, I think. I had experience with and a fondness for 2D art and we all loved narrative driven gameplay, so an adventure game was kind of a natural step for us. We decided to both honor the classic aesthetics of an older genre but also revitalize it with a more modern spin on characters, storytelling, and even mechanics. With all of these pieces in place, plus a sweet cyberpunk finish, Read Only Memories was born. Making a graphic adventure game for the modern era is a lot more complicated than it seems at first glance, especially with the approach that we took. Branching narrative paths give players near endless possibilities and make multiple playthroughs rewarding. Of course, that also meant we had to account for every which way that a player might go and make sure that things worked and made sense. Before we knew it, we had a much more massive project in our hands than originally expected. Characters were super important to us from the very beginning. Even on early demos the thing that people got really excited about were the characters. One of the characters, Jess, did little more than just call you a jerk– and people loved her! We got braver about putting in more diverse and interesting characters after this. Seeing all of my characters go from goofy little doodles I made years ago to fully animated, often sassy, chatty friends on the screen is still surreal. We thought a lot about what could or should be seen as normal and everyday in the future world of 2064 and how we could bring people into that world. Players are allowed to select their name, pronouns, and even their diet! We didn’t even have anything planned for the diet part! It was still cool to have, though, so it stayed. Although the protagonist character clearly lives their own life in Neo-San Francisco, allowing for these little things lets players fine tune themselves and feel closer to the setting. Of course, you can make awesome characters and stories all day but if your mechanics don’t work with them, they just don’t translate. This was definitely one of our biggest challenges. Not only did we have to create this world and cast but we had to let the player interact with them in ways that mattered. A lot of old-school adventure games used things like combining items, pixel hunting, and other mechanics that we kind of did away with. These things mainly added a layer of artificial difficulty (and frustration). We wanted players to more organically play out the role of virtual detective and kept the puzzles to using items and navigating conversations. In fact, and I don’t think we’ve been very open about this, most puzzles actually have multiple solutions, which can affect the flow of the story. Our goal was that each player would naturally gravitate towards a solution that fit their personality. We try not to say too much when people comment on things that happened that they don’t realize they could have changed or prevented. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m not really sure how I got to this point but I’m really excited to be doing this. For being the first game in our studio, the praise we have gotten for the game has been incredible. I hope to work on more titles for the folks that love this game and I know we’re going to be sneaking more content in down the line… View the full article

Hello, PlayStation fans. I’m pleased to announce that Beyond: Two Souls is coming to PS4 next week, complete with graphical improvements and new fan-requested features. You’ll be able to download it from PlayStation Store starting November 24th for $29.99. Players will have another chance to experience the story of Jodie Holmes (played, excellently, by Ellen Page), a young woman who possesses supernatural powers through her psychic link to an invisible entity. Holmes’ journey is intertwined with the complex Dr. Dawkins (brought to life by the inimitable Willem Dafoe), on PS4. The PS4 edition of the game features a number of improvements: Enhanced 1080p graphics including motion blur, bloom and depth of field effects, as well as improved lighting and shadows. The game also makes use of the DualShock 4 speaker to improve immersion when playing as the Entity. Decisions are highlighted at the end of each scene and compared with those made by other players. You can now play the game in chronological order right from the start – a much requested feature in the PS3 version! Increased difficulty in certain fight scene, combined with improved controls for action sequences. Includes the “Enhanced Experiments†DLC. Update: An earlier version of this post stated that players would have to complete the game before being able to play it in chronological order. This feature is unlocked from the start of the game. We can also now confirm that Heavy Rain will be coming to PS4 digitally next year on March 1st. For those attending PlayStation Experience this year, you’ll be able to get hands-on time with both Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain. What’s more, those who purchase Beyond: Two Souls digitally will be entitled to download Heavy Rain on PS4 when it releases at a discount. We really hope you enjoy revisiting these games or experiencing them for the first time! View the full article

The post-apocalypse is definitely in vogue this year, which is more than enough reason to bring that theme to Rocket League! Slated for release this December, our fantastic new “Chaos Run†DLC will include all sorts of badass goodies inspired by the end of all civilized things, including… 2 New Battle-Cars, Ripper and Grog 12 New Decals (six for each new Battle-Car) 2 New Paint Types (Camo and Sun-Damaged) 2 New Wheels (Ripper and Grog) 2 New Rocket Trails (Sandstorm, Nuts and Bolts) 3 New Toppers (Boombox, Cow Skull, Mohawk) 3 New Antennas (Bomb Pole, Radioactive, Retro Ball – Wasteland) 5 New Trophies As always, our paid DLC will also ship with a free new arena called Wasteland! Based on a field of the same name from the original Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, Wasteland is the first “non-regulation†pitch to come to Rocket League. How is Wasteland different? It’s physically-wider than all other stadiums and has a completely-dissimilar Boost placement. The biggest difference, though, is that the ground itself is sloped around the entire perimeter of the arena, making for matches that feel much different than typical Rocket League contests. It’s the first of many “unusual†arena designs that we plan to introduce in the future, and they’re only going to get more interesting from here. Several other free items, including new music from Kevin Riepl and several new Garage items are slated for the release as well. And we’ll have some additional announcements about the game coming up over the next few weeks. Chaos Run will retail for $3.99 (or its regional equivalent) and ship sometime in early December. See you then! View the full article

Hi! I’m Michael from House House, which is a very small game company from Melbourne, Australia. We’ve spent the last two years working on our first game — a local-multiplayer sports game called Push Me Pull You — and today we’re excited to announce that we’re bringing it to PS4 next year. Push Me Pull You is a lovely and horrible two-on-two sports game that’s all about cooperation, because you are literally joined to your partner. Players need to work together to keep control of the ball, pulling it along or wrapping it up tight with their long stretchy torso. A game of Push Me Pull You consists of a big frantic mess of growing, shrinking, and stretching bodies, driven by our fluid, physics-based movement system. Since you can’t just pick up the ball with the press of a button, you’ll need to use your shared body to scoop it up and carry it, or wrap around it to protect it, or push it away so that your opponent can’t reach it, and so on. These freeform tactics evolve through consecutive games as players invent their own strategies and counter-strategies, resulting in an expressive system of play and a deceptively high skill ceiling. Here’s a quick rundown of what else you can expect from the game: Character creation, so that you can decide what your character looks like before you smoosh its face into your opponent’s fleshy torso. A set of alternative gameplay modes we’ve designed in addition to the competitive core game — Knockout, for instance, is a sumo-like variant that gives each team a ball that they’ll need to defend while trying to push the other team’s ball out of the ring. A wide open space to explore between matches, with a bunch of little toys and secrets, offering a space to play around with the game’s physics outside of the competitive game itself. Although we originally designed Push Me Pull You to be played by four people with four controllers, we knew that not everyone has a bunch of spare controllers lying around, and it’s not always easy to get four friends in the same room to play video games. With that in mind, we’ve designed it to be as accessible as possible, so it can be played with all sorts of configurations — from two to four players, and from one to four controllers. We’ve kept the control scheme simple enough that two players can share either side of a single controller, which is personally our favorite way to play — having to share means you end up wrestling your partner both on-screen and off. We’re really glad Push Me Pull You has found a place on PlayStation. From the beginning, we designed this game to be played by friends in the same room, with controllers, so PS4 is a perfect fit. We’re all relatively new to game development, and we’ve been fortunate enough to have our development supported through Sony’s Pub Fund program. It’s really exciting to be able to release the game on a platform so well-suited to our original intentions. We’re also happy to announce that Push Me Pull You will be playable at PlayStation Experience in San Francisco next month. If you’re at the show, come say hi! If you’ve got any questions about the game, feel free to ask them below. View the full article

Let me share with you the terrible wonders I have come to know… We’ve all played dungeon crawlers before, but have you ever had your fighter go on a bender to cope with the horrors he’s witnessed in the darkness? Darkest Dungeon deals with the psychological toll adventurers endure as they brave the nightmarish horrors of the pit. This December, Darkest Dungeon will be coming to PlayStation Experience. We’ve always been fans of dungeon crawlers and we’ve all grown up with the gospel of Gygax, but there was one aspect always missing from these adventures of fame and glory. Warriors are always brave, clerics always faithful to their deity. But humans are fragile and become irrational as pressures mount. So we wanted to make a game set in a dark gothic low-fantasy world that would begin to capture what it would be like if a human, not a superhero, lived through the events we see so often in RPGs. We’ve been working on Darkest Dungeon since April 2013. And coming up this December, a major milestone is happening: for the first time ever we’ll be showing Darkest Dungeon running on PS4! Seeing your game running on a console is a big deal for any developer, and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ve always been proud of our game’s visuals, but seeing it on a large TV… it’s never looked better. So be sure to come by our booth, check out the game and say hello! We will have a special goodie to hand out for those who were brave enough to battle the nightmares that lurk below. Can’t make it out to San Francisco? That’s a bummer, but don’t worry! Darkest Dungeon will be launching on PS4 and PS Vita in Spring 2016. That being said, PlayStation Experience will be one of the few chances to play the game on PS4 before we release it. We couldn’t be more excited to bring the game to Playstation, and we look forward to seeing you this December! A devil walks these halls… only the mad or the desperate go in search of him… View the full article

It’s time to put on a NerveGear headset and Link Start into the world of ALfheim Online for Sword Art Online: Lost Song! The game is available to purchase and play on PS4 and PS Vita today! The latest chapter of the Sword Art Online game saga was developed under the close supervision of series creator Reki Kawahara and features an entirely new story that is split from the light novel and anime series. Kirito and his friends are in a new area of ALfheim Online called Svart ALfheim, and are keen to be the first to beat ALO! Along the way however, they meet members of a mysterious new guild, Shamrock. Headed up by katana-wielding swordsman Sumeragi, Shamrock guild’s most famous member is actually the real life genius/in-game pop idol Seven. Will they join forces to beat the game? Or is something more nefarious afoot? In addition to the new story, Sword Art Online: Lost Song allows SAO fans to play as characters other than Kirito. With 18 different options from throughout the series, including Asuna, Leafa, Klein, and more, it’s a great way to spend more time with your favorite characters! If that’s not enough, you can also create your own character to take into flying or ground battles! Take a peek at the character creator below. Sword Art Online: Lost Song, explore the land of ALfheim Online with up to 3 friends in online co-op, or throw down in 4 vs 4 online PvP. Who do you think would win in a fight like that? What are you looking forward to most in Sword Art Online: Lost Song? …Link Start! View the full article

Attention, racing enthusiasts! I’m Guilhes Damian, co-founder of Brazilian indie game studio QUByete. We are really happy to announce that our game HTR+ Slot Car Simulator is coming to PS Vita today! So this is a great opportunity to talk a little bit more about the game. This is the fruit of the combination of our passion for racing cars, old toys like the classic slot cars (or “autoramaâ€, as we call it here in Brazil) and our desire to improve the racing games experience on handheld devices. In a certain way, we always asked ourselves here at QUByte if racing games on these platforms could have simpler and more user-friendly controls. Thus, our goal was to create something that completely eliminated the directional controls so we could focus on optimizing other aspects of the experience. And we thought slot car races would be perfect for that. HTR+ Slot Car Simulator was designed to make the player feel the adrenaline and the speed of piloting these little fireballs, focusing only on the acceleration control. You only need one finger to control the car – a sliding bar simulates the analog acceleration control like the one on the real toy. The expectation before each curve delivers a vibrant experience of tension and suspense we were looking for. The little cars can be prepared and set with chassis, wheel, tire and motor changes in a total of 240 possible combinations to adjust them to perfection for each one of the 20 available tracks with three different difficulty settings that will please both begginers and those willing to take lots of risks! You can also build your own tracks using all kinds of pieces like loops, curves and much more to create awesome and challenging circuits. Pretty cool, right? And if you are thinking about seeking your spot among the very best pilots, you will be pleased to know that the game is a multiplatform title, so you will be competing with players from all over the world! We hope you like our game and that it makes you remember those moments from your childhood when you imagined yourself piloting potent racing cars. And, of course, we can’t wait to hear what you think of the game! Please, use the comment box below to let us know how this nostalgic experience feels to you. See you on the tracks! Blasting enemy troopers, dogfighting with iconic starships, playing as Hero characters, creating powerful hands of Star Cards… There’s an entire galaxy of gameplay waiting for you in Star Wars Battlefront — and we want to make your first moments on the battlefront count. We’ve gathered 20 tips that will aid you on your path to becoming a master. These simple-but-crucial pointers come straight from the DICE development team and cover weapons, vehicles, and more. Blasters and WeaponsChristian Johannesén, Designer “Maintain controlled fire with your blaster to manage both heat and bolt spread.†“With each successful cooling flush, the skill game increases in difficulty. When failing, dying or not activating the cooling flush, the difficulty level will decrease again.†“The Ion Shot makes your blaster more powerful against vehicles, and weaker against troopers during its active time.†Star Cards and Power-upsChristian Johannesén, Designer “The Ion Grenade is a great way to quickly deal with pesky Droids and turrets.†“The Pulse Cannon does greater damage the longer it’s charged. A fully charged shot will defeat a person with one shot.†“Combine the Jump Pack with an explosion based weapon — like the Bowcaster — to rain mayhem from above.†“The Smoke Grenade not only reduces vision, but also blocks lock-on functions for weapons, turrets, and Droids.†“Energy shields blocks incoming energy blasts, but solid projectiles like grenades, rockets, and the Cycler Rifle slug will pass through.†“If you have a power up you do not want, you can hit interact (Square) in front of a power-up to change it for a new one.†“The Cycler Rifle and Pulse Cannon must be fired while scoping in order to maximize its accuracy.†“The Smart Rocket fires like a regular launcher, but the rocket will target and track a vehicle if fired in its general direction.†Piloting StarfightersNick Baker, Designer “If you take damage while trying to call in a vehicle the progress will be reset.†“Evasive maneuvers break missile lock and Soft Lock.†“Reduced velocity increases weapon power, increased velocity reduces weapon power for the A-wing, X-wing TIE fighter, TIE interceptor, Slave I, and the Millennium Falcon.†Björn Sundell, Vehicle Designer “Hold the Left Trigger to activate your targeting system on the starfighters. It helps you land your shots.â€MiscellaneousChristian Johannesén, Designer “A Trait will grant a passive bonus and level up with kill streaks. When dying, the Trait will lose a level again.†“Customize your hand of Star Cards accordingly in Hero Hunt and Heroes vs Villains. Not even a Jedi can block an explosion.†“Droids are not only great for attacking the enemy team, they also have a scan pulse that reveals enemies to your entire team.†Jim Fagerlund, Mission Scripter “In regular Battles, press the D-pad up to make your AI allies ‘search and destroy’ and D-pad right to ‘follow player.'†Nick Baker, Designer “The AT-ST has a weak spot on its back, try to target this when attacking one and defend it when piloting.†There are many more tips to learn about Star Wars Battlefront, so stay tuned for more tips like these. We also recommend the Training Missions, where you’ll get a chance to pilot X-wings and play as Darth Vader on your own or with a friend before facing the heat of live multiplayer. Good luck and may the Force be with you! View the full article

During the nearly two years we have put into localizing the game for English-speaking audiences, we’ve paid special attention to transferring the game’s original charm into English. Our starting point was the same as it always is: that we’re keeping the original Japanese audio in the game. Eiyuu Senki has more than 40 famous voice actresses who pull off stellar roles, so replacing them was hardly an option. Fans of Japanese games and anime would be hard pressed to not find familiar voices in the game, and many of them have appeared in 5pb.’s other games as well. To name just one example, Minamoto no Yoshitsune is voiced by Imai Asami, who’s also Makise Kurisu in Steins;Gate and Chihaya Kisaragi in iDOLM@STER. Incidentally, she also performs the opening song “Infinite Melody†for Eiyuu Senki. Keeping Japanese voices, which most players can’t follow by themselves, also presents some challenges in localization. As is often the case with RPGs, Eiyuu Senki has a lot of voiced character commentary that never appears in writing at all: battle dialogue, responses to player’s orders, and acknowledgements for game events. Sure you can garner the general meaning from tone alone, but I still feel that something is easily left behind in the transition. When we discussed this during our internal testing, we found a solution that was both simple and challenging in several ways. We would have to create a way to add subtitles for all the character commentary into the game, despite its sheer volume and the fact that there was neither a system in place to display it, nor even proper text data for the voices to translate from. We had received the original recording data for the voices, but its structure was such that it could only be used as a reference rather than translated from. When we started building a prototype system to display the voices, we already knew it’s going to be a long operation, and without any guarantee we can create a solution good enough to keep. That was early this spring, and we had originally scheduled to release Eiyuu Senki in summer 2015, so you can imagine that the decision wasn’t easy. But we’re firm believers in the saying “whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well.†There’s not much to say about the actual process, except that it did take a few extra months as expected. But most importantly, the end result was a completely natural looking way to show the character comments in the game. I daresay that those who don’t know that it’s a later addition won’t realize it wasn’t always there. And in the end, the less feedback we get about the new feature, the better — if no one pays conscious attention to it, that’s the best feedback possible. It’s been a long road for us, but now the wait is finally about to end. As a parting comment, I’d like to mention that Eiyuu Senki — The World Conquest hasn’t been censored in any way over the original Japanese PS3 version. We hope everyone will enjoy conquering the world together with their favorite cute world leaders! View the full article

After spending almost eight hours with the final game, it’s clear that Star Wars Battlefront is reaping the benefits of developer DICE, veteran multiplayer designers and creators of the Battlefield series. Star Wars Battlefront sits in a unique niche in the current FPS landscape. The controls are simple and streamlined, making the game accessible to players of varying experience levels. But its deep character progression, sprawling mode selection, and tight gunplay will satisfy the veterans, too. Thanks to the expanded arsenal in the final game, the combat is far, far richer than last month’s (excellent) multiplayer beta. Of the 11 or so weapons, my current favorite is the T-21B Targeting Rifle, a high-damage, high-range blaster with a deliberate firing rate and murderous accuracy. Very satisfying. The CA-87 Shock Blaster is another standout, shredding armored targets with its shotgun-like spread. Fans of Destiny’s pulse rifles will love the burst-fire EE-3 Blaster Rifle, while Han Solo’s iconic DL-44 Blaster Pistol is, shot for shot, one of the most deadly blasters in the game. They all look great, sound great, and feel great. Mechanically, DICE hit the bullseye here. As a shooter, Battlefront is a joy to play. Rounding out your arsenal are Star Cards, specialized secondary gear that can briefly tilt the odds in your favor. Chewie’s signature weapon, the Bowcaster, excels at zapping several infantry at once, as does the Barrage grenade launcher. A new Ion Torpedo dominates enemy vehicles with homing rockets. And those are just the tip of the lightsaber; there are so, so many unlockable abilities and collectible power-ups in the final game that I had a hard time cataloging them. And that’s not to mention the Charged Star Cards, which are consumable items you can deploy as needed. These introduce interesting tactical wrinkles, allowing you to deploy a short-lived personal shield or briefly eliminate blaster overheating. Then there are the playable Heroes and Villains, an undeniable part of Battlefront’s charm. My early favorite may be Boba Fett, with his jetpack and mix of long- and close-range firepower. Princess Leia takes a bit of getting used to, with skills best suited to a support role. As you’d expect, Emperor Palpatine’s Force Lightning makes him a crowd control expert. I particularly loved the new Hero Hunt mode, an asymmetrical battle which casts one player as a random Hero or Villain and pits him against the other players. Only the Hero or Villain can score points, and the only way to play as a Hero or Villain is to kill one. This leads to entertaining and energetic matches, with Stormtroopers scrambling frantically after a fleeing Luke Skywalker or Boba Fett. I also enjoyed Battlefront’s fun spin on Capture the Flag, Cargo mode, which sees two teams battle over control of 10 packages. And the new Droid Run mode is basically Conquest with mobile capture points. Visually, the game is a knockout on PS4. The entire game is peppered with loving details, from squealing Ewoks fleeing indoors on Endor, to the Sarlacc pit on Tatooine, to the wide array of colorful alien species you can unlock for your Rebellion trooper. Star Wars Battlefront launches on PS4 next week. Have questions? Let me know in the comments! View the full article

We are extremely delighted to announce and launch Spelunker World in North America today for free! More than thirty years ago, an 8-bit game Spelunker emerged — where the main character braved the depths of a deep and dark cave encountering bats and obstacles in the search for treasure. After the critical success of “Minna de Spelunker Z†in Japan, we are proud to announce that Spelunker World is available exclusively for PS4 starting today. Let’s begin by checking out the trailer and digging into the story! There was once a Spelunker who dared to brave the caverns of the world despite his frail body. After discovering the location of a cave which held legendary treasure, he equipped himself for whatever might lie ahead and journeyed within. Alas, he never returned… Ten years have passed… Now, you are an amateur Spelunker! Follow in the footsteps of your father who disappeared 10 years ago as you head out on your first real spelunking adventure. Find your father and the legendary treasure! If you check at least 3 out of the 6 boxes below, this game is for you! â You like teamwork and consider yourself a team player. In “Group Expedition,†up to 6 players can explore caves together online. â You like dogs. â You like cats. â You like treasures! Collect sparkly treasure or Moon Gems. (The game is full of them. You will collect Moon Gems which allow you to get more awesome stuff!) â You love Customization! You can obtain equipment and pets by collecting all the Litho-stone fragments! Pets each have their own special abilities that can aid Spelunkers. Equipment will increase the Spelunker’s abilities when worn. Put on powerful equipment and bring along a pet for a great advantage in your adventures! â You like Square Enix games (there are in-game events where you get costumes and in-game items from Lara Croft Temple of Osiris and other Square Enix Heroes) Here’s a look at our collaboration with Lara Croft! Cute, huh? And here is our collaboration with Just Cause using Rico Rodriguez’s signature wingsuit and grapple in Spelunker World! Jump over dangerous pitfalls! Use bombs to blow up boulders that block the way! Use flares to keep bats and their guano at a distance! Blow away spooky ghosts with your portable fan! Head deep into a cave to find the mysteries that lie in its depths. A variety of traps, creatures, and even wicked ghosts within the caves will stand in your way — but the goal is to explore mysterious caves and find the legendary treasure waiting in the deepest depths. Spelunker World is giving out ten cakes as a North American launch bonus! All players who boot up Spelunker World will receive ten cakes from 11/11 12:00 until 12/2 23:59 (Pacific). With this special bonus, all players can experience Doggie Digging x 10 + Chance Bonus! Let the adventures begin — happy spelunking! View the full article

Oh, doctor, do I have some news for you, PlayStation faithful. I’m Greg Miller from KindaFunny.com, I’ve been covering PlayStation for eight years, and it’s my honor to announce that we have a panel at PlayStation Experience 2015. I’d really like you to come. Saturday, December 5th at 5:00 PM Pacific, Colin Moriarty and myself will sit down on the PlayStation Experience Main Stage and bring you a live recording of PS I Love You XOXO, Kinda Funny’s weekly PlayStation podcast. We’ll have insightful criticism of the PlayStation Keynote, guests, and I’ll probably yell “A BAKER’S DOZEN†at some point. I’ll never be able to properly express how important this opportunity and community are to me. When I started covering PlayStation, I was just some kid who had camped out nine hours for his PS2 and was given a shot at a dream job. Every day since then, you have kept that dream alive. That’s meant reviewing games like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, interviewing folks like Hideo Kojima, and traveling the world. Last year at the first PlayStation Experience, Colin and I did what we knew would be our last live Podcast Beyond. There, in the only panel that was standing room only, I tried to say goodbye without letting it slip that we were leaving and starting Kinda Funny, a podcast/YouTube brand covering all of the things we love. For someone who had made a career out of being your best friend, I found it incredibly difficult to tell you how important you were to me while not knowing when we’d get to be together again. Now, a year later, Colin and I return to PlayStation Experience as the brand new No. 1 PlayStation podcast on iTunes and as the only live podcast panel at PlayStation Experience. These are honors that aren’t lost on us. We’re going to keep giving you the show you deserve each and every Tuesday on KindaFunny.com, but at the convention? Oh, that’s going to be something special. Shuhei Yoshida’s already agreed to be on the podcast, I have plenty of unfinished business with David Jaffe, and we’ll make sure there’s time to answer your questions. Oh, and did I mention we’re doing an all ages/free food/fun times Meet & Greet Saturday night? That’s right, at 8:00 PM Pacific Saturday, literally come across the street from PlayStation Experience to Jillian’s (175 4th St.) for Kinda Funny’s Just Cause 3 Meet & Greet. We’re going until midnight, so come win some swag and let me shake your hand. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I can’t wait to see you all next month at PlayStation Experience.
