Do you have to finish the single player mode before you can go online? Everytime i click on metal gear online, it resets my ps3 and goes back to the main screen.

I got booted from a socom match, and when i went to the main screen, there was the update. Downloaded in about 15 min. and is fine. Don't know what it does yet though.
