  1. What a week! Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is out now on PS4, Nom Nom Galaxy launches on Tuesday (moar Pixeljunk!) as does TowerFall: Dark World, May’s PlayStation Plus lineup is ripe for the downloadin’, Sid ran us through the Prison of Elders in Destiny: House of Wolves, PlayStation Now subscriptions are coming to PS3 Tuesday, and Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition is predictably adorable (with Star Wars!). Oh yeah, and Portal Pinball. PORTAL. PINBALL. Looking for some quality entertainment going into this weekend? Watch my buddy Ryan play some Skullgirls: 2nd Encore on PlayStation Underground. 2. Today we can finally announce that Dark World, our expansion for 2014’s critically-acclaimed TowerFall Ascension, will launch May 12 on PS4! This huge DLC pack will sell for $9.99. We’re still working on the PS Vita version of TowerFall too — we’ll have more news about that soon! When we set out to create an update for TowerFall, we didn’t expect to take it this far. What started as a single new level set with a new archer ballooned into 4 level sets, 10 archers, procedurally generated levels, a new co-op mode, boss battles, new powerups, and more. The result is DLC that pushes every aspect of the game further in surprising and meaningful ways. No matter what you love about TowerFall Ascension, we want to give you more in Dark World. One of my favorite additions are the new Trigger Arrows, a powerup that makes your projectiles behave like remote-detonated mines. Plant them in walls or ceilings, wait for an unsuspecting enemy to run by, and send her to a fiery grave. If you play TowerFall you can probably already imagine how this opens doors to all kinds of tricks and tactics to outsmart your opponents. You can detonate trigger arrows midflight, or plant multiple around the stage to weave a precarious web of destruction. If your friends are clever, they might try to dodge through your well-laid traps to defuse them and use them against you. Versus mode remains the heart and soul of TowerFall, but it was important to us to continue exploring new ways to play. The new 4four-player Dark World mode feels very different from the old two-player Quest mode from Ascension. You can revive your fallen teammates as you fight through the many stages of each Dark World portal, and every set is capped off with a unique boss battle. The joy of taking down these hideous boss monsters with your friends is a satisfying counterpoint to the manic competition of Versus mode. You can also play this new campaign solo, or with any amount of players up to four. I have to thank TowerFall players for your patience and support while developing this expansion. It took a bit longer than we were expecting but we’re thrilled with the result, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback. Creating anything in the TowerFall universe has become a feedback loop where your ideas and reactions directly influence our creative process, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 3. Hey everyone, John Vignocchi, Vice President of Production on Disney Infinity with exciting news on the launch of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) for Sony’s PS Vita handheld system. You may recall that we first revealed this version of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) during PlayStation Experience last December, and now it’s finally here! PS Vita owners can start playing and creating their own adventures featuring some of their favorite Disney and Marvel characters on this amazing platform. Featuring an all-new and exclusive Black Suit Spider-Man figure, the PS Vita Starter Pack also includes the Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) video game, the Disney Infinity Wireless Base which connects via Bluetooth, a Marvel’s Spider-Man Play Set Piece, both Marvel Super Heroes Toy Box Game Discs, a Web Code Card and a USB Recharging Cable. The Black Suit Spider-Man figure will be fully compatible with the console version of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition), but it will be making an exclusive debut to the Disney Infinity universe through PS Vita. Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) for PS Vita will be available exclusively at GameStop for $59.99, starting on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Before I go, I’d like to personally thank Adam Creighton and the team at Panic Button Games in Austin, TX for all of their hard work to get this version of the game out the door. Also, special shout-out to Adam Boyes and the Third Party team at SCEA for encouraging us to get Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) onto PS Vita. It is pretty wild to play the full experience on that beautiful, small screen! And last but certainly not least – Thank you to all of our loyal Disney Infinity fans and PS Vita owners. We really hope you guys like it! View the full article
  4. We’re less than 46 days away from the launch of Batman: Arkham Knight — a number that all of us at Rocksteady are excitedly counting down as much as we hope all Batman fans are across the world. We’ve been hard at work since the completion of Batman: Arkham City, conceiving and creating a game that raises the bar and delivers the next-gen Batman experience that our fans deserve. Today, we’re here to share the announcement of a new weekly community show called “Arkham Insider.†We’ve been cape stunned by calls from across the Arkham community to know more about the finer details of Batman: Arkham Knight and to learn more about Rocksteady Studios, so we’ve created this new show in order to bring our fans what they’ve been asking for — more details, new gameplay, and a window into the world of Rocksteady Studios. In the first episode of Arkham Insider, we’re diving deep into our latest trailer “All Who Follow Youâ€, with new details on the Dual Play system, how it feels to wear skin-tight spandex suits, and insights on the key narrative points in the trailer from Rocksteady’s Martin Lancaster (Lead Scriptwriter) and Adam Vincent (Senior Animator). You’ll also get a peek inside the studio kitchen during our milestone feast breakfast, a key point in development every month to review our progress on the game (and an opportunity to enjoy copious amounts of bacon and pastries!). Over the course of the series, we’ll be showing you a whole lot more. You’ll hear directly from talented developers across the studio and more about the features they’ve been working on and how they come together to deliver the ultimate “Be The Batman†experience. You can stay connected to the Arkham Insider series by subscribing to our official Batman Arkham YouTube channel, or following us on Facebook and Twitter. Let us know if you have any questions you’d like answered in the comments below! View the full article
  5. Hello, PlayStation.Blog readers! Along with developer Swordtales, we’re proud to announce that Toren will be heading to PS4 on May 12th! We’re also extremely happy to announce that we’re doing a special 10% discount for all PS Plus members for the first week of our launch. Toren is the first adventure game from Brazilian indie developer Swordtales. You are Moonchild, destined to climb the tower (known as Toren) on a hauntingly solitary adventure to find your purpose. Over the course of our journey to debut on PS4, we have learned a ton about game development and we’d like to discuss the importance of growth and inspiration to both the game’s content as well as to its development. In Toren, growth is an especially powerful idea, since you start the game as a small child and you have to learn how to walk, as well as how to interact with the world. As you progress through the game, Moonchild will age and grow up, learning new powers and abilities which, in turn, let you interact with the world in increasingly different ways. By the same token, with the help of PlayStation and its support for indie games, we have also grown from being a group of starry-eyed hopefuls into full-fledged game developers — an incredible journey for the studio that has made everyone a little older and a little wiser (And a lot more sleep-deprived!). Toren is also a game that came about as the result of inspiration. You’ll no doubt mark the similarities between our game and the classic PS2 adventure game Ico. Like that game, Toren features a beautiful, silent world to explore lacking an obvious narrator. The Swordtales team felt that this style of narrative and explanation fit our vision of what we wanted the game to be, while also infusing the game with a uniquely colorful look and feel that draws on the traditional artwork and mythology of Brazil. And in the same way, we pushed through all those late-night coding and testing sessions by drawing great inspiration from both the input of fans — whose thoughtful feedback really spurred the team to move forwards — as well as from the opportunity to join the eclectic PS4 indie games library. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with fantastic indie developers like Klei Entertainment, Doublefine, and many more has been a great source of inspiration that has led us to constantly challenge ourselves to do better. We’re very proud to be working with PlayStation and helping grow the video game culture of Brazil, as well as helping contribute to the PlayStation indie game culture. The PlayStation team’s indie-friendly approach and ability to work with us (even all the way down in South America) truly made this effort worthwhile, and we cannot express enough thanks to them. This is our first game and one of the few to come out of Brazil, but this will surely not be the last! We encourage all of you to not only check out the game, but please get a conversation going with us! We truly enjoy your feedback (as it makes us better developers). View the full article
  6. Hi everyone. I’m pleased to announce that following a collaboration with Q-Games, Nom Nom Galaxy is on its way to PS4 on May 12th! The best way to describe Nom Nom Galaxy is “genre-blending,†but at its core it’s about creating enormous soup factories with your friends and shipping tasty soup into outer space! Nom Nom Galaxy combines many themes of gameplay, with equal elements of classic platforming, mining, construction, resource management, and tower defence. Here is an idea of what’s to come… Crash-land and Explore Remote, Living WorldsRun, jump, swim and jet boost around vast, fully-destructible environments. Equip your astro-buzzsaw to terraform the planet as you decide where to build your soup factory-base. Terrain can be lifted and moved manually, or exploded with dynamite robots to expand soup production anywhere on the planet. Unsupported land will collapse with gravity, water pools will drain, and pockets of oxygen will gradually expand. Construct, Maintain, and Defend With FriendsMineable resources in the ground provide the currency for constructing your factories, buying zero-gravity corridors, soup-making machines, and rockets. As your factories start to ship soup, you’ll earn the cash you need to expand and automate the exportation of soup with conveyor belts and robot workers. Unlocking new robot types will allow for more complex loops, turning the production of soup into a giant “Rube Goldberg†machine. You’re not alone! As your factory’s profits rise, rival soup corporations across the galaxy will fight for sales and interstellar soup-remacy. You’ll have to sell soup faster, make it tastier, and defend your factory with robot guards, weapons, and turrets. Nom Nom Galaxy allows for solo or two-player split-screen, as well as up to four player online co-op. Two friends on splitscreen can also join online players for a four-player game. The Galaxy Needs Soup! Each alien planet is alive with a variety of weird plants and wild animals that flourish in different conditions. You’ll need to harvest and kill the native flora and fauna to create the galaxy’s most delicious soup recipes, combining new flavors to discover which ingredients taste good together. Re-plant and grow ingredients nearby for a regular food source, employ robot gardeners to harvest for you, or team up with friends to take down nests and huge beasts. Galactic ChallengesTravel to the Challenge Galaxy to put your skills to the test in fun, asynchronous challenges against friends and gamers around the world. Challenges incorporate existing mechanics on new levels where you’ll race, swim, pogo, fight and ship soup to earn medals and global bragging rights. Solo and split-screen Challenges last a couple of days, allowing players to replay, protect their position, beat friends, and secure rewards. After that, new challenges on different planets will auto-generate for players to take part in. This loop continues, providing a long-term competitive and social component to Nom Nom Galaxy, as well as opportunities for players to earn rewards and unique character abilities to carry back into the campaign. 7. In addition to upgrading the game’s popular competitive mode, Destiny’s next expansion aims to flesh out the backstory of The Fallen, the dastardly alien race that have claimed many of mankind’s abandoned strongholds following the appearance of The Darkness. Pre-order Destiny: House of Wolves | PlayStation.com House of Wolves introduces a new social space set in The Reef, a dilapidated base run by the Queen of the Awoken packed with new missions and new activities. In addition to five new story missions set all over the solar system, the expansion brings a muscular new PvE mode that aims to keep high-level co-op players fighting and looting. Watch our new video above to learn more. In Prison of Elders, you’ll partner with fellow Guardians and attempt to survive a series of battles across many of Destiny’s toughest alien races, including Hive, Cabal, and more. Each encounter will be a bit different thanks to procedurally generated gameplay wrinkles, whether it’s different mission types, modifiers, or boss battles. Survive it all and your fireteam will gain access to the Queen’s treasure room — and trust me, it’s worth the fuss. Devoted Prison of Elders fans can also unlock special challenges at levels 32, 34, and 35. House of Wolves hits PS4 and PS3 on May 19th, and includes a competitive map called Timekeeper that’s exclusive to PlayStation players until at least Fall 2015. Have questions? Let me know in the comments! View the full article

  10. In last year’s Wolfenstein: The New Order, the series’ staple protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz manages to snap out of a coma, remove himself from the wheelchair he’s been confined to for decades, and quickly move on to his favorite pastime: killing Nazis. Seemingly an impossible feat… but by the time you complete Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, out today, you’ll realize it’s just another day at the office for Blazkowicz. The Old Blood is a prequel to The New Order offering the same high-intensity, story-driven, first-person action players have come to expect from the game’s developer MachineGames. The story unfolds as B.J. and ally spy Agent One begin an undercover mission to infiltrate the infamous Castle Wolfenstein (longtime fans of the series will appreciate MachineGames’ nods to the 2001 classic, Return to Castle Wolfenstein) in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. B.J.’s battles within Castle Wolfenstein are what legends are made of, but Castle Wolfenstein only represents the game’s first act: Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves. Serving as the warden of Castle Wolfenstein’s prison, Jäger might seem like the most sinister villain you’ll meet — until you reach the game’s second act, The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs. A renowned archaeologist in the Nazi party, Von Schabbs heads the party’s SS Paranormal division, and her passion for the occult will lead to very bad things. How bad? Have a look at the game’s new launch trailer embedded above. To help Blazkowicz through these near-impossible odds, MachineGames has added a number of weapons worthy of the FPS Hall of Fame. It begins with a multi-purpose metal pipe that can be used to traverse and break walls, and also execute enemies with one- and two-handed melee attacks. Of course The Old Blood has its fair share of memorable guns, too. The new bolt-action rifle packs a powerful punch and is perfect for long-range sniping. And if you find yourself in a real jam, take advantage of the Kampfpistole — a pocket-sized rocket launcher! Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is available today on PS4; you can download it from PlayStation Store for $19.99. For more detailed information on the game, check out all our game updates on Bethesda Blog. View the full article

  13. Welcome back to PlayStation Underground, our online show about video games! Today, we go underground with Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, a spectacular fighting game with a ton of personality that’s coming to PS4, and PS Vita soon after. These up-and-coming fighters include a wrestler inspired by Old English epic poetry, and a robotic cat girl. Truly, few fighting game lineups have quite this much flavor. Join Earl and I as we play just about 20 minutes of 2nd Encore on PS4, discussing everything from game balance to developer easter eggs. What does a fighting game built by fighting game fans really look like? Watch below! Let me know what you think in the comments, and remember that we’ll be back soon with more Underground in the weeks to come. Enjoy the show. View the full article
  14. While working on Lost Orbit, we were faced with two seemingly opposing ideas. We wanted to create a lonely, unforgiving universe that followed the journey of a doomed astronaut. At the same time, as designers, we wanted to entertain and reward our players with sound mechanics and positive reinforcement. We wanted players to have fun. Trying to reconcile these two different elements of Lost Orbit was challenging. How can a player experience feelings of hopelessness, while enjoying their time in the game? The solution was a twisted and dark sense of humor, where tragedy and comedy merge using the design, narrative, and visual elements of death. Designing DeathIt is a difficult line between challenging a player and frustrating them. In Lost Orbit, it was clear that the game was most fun when played quickly. The ability to blast through levels is addictive, and is positively reinforced through upgrading your equipment. We found by raising the stakes, we were able to amplify the sense of speed in the game. Harrison is little more than a fragile sack of organs. Players will discover this all too quickly with one poorly timed turn or barrel roll. It’s in knowing that death comes instantly that successfully navigating any given level is so rewarding. You must be perfect in your efforts, and knowing what’s at risk makes every moment more intense. The speed and the stakes combine to challenge your reaction times. Often, you’ll barely have a moment to scream something unintelligible before you paint an asteroid with your guts, and therein lays the sick sense of humor. Narrating DeathGood designers want to immerse players in a world of their creation without boring them with endless cutscenes and backstories. The universe of Lost Orbit couples beautiful environments with the hopelessness of being stranded in space. It would have been easy for the game to take on a monotonously dark tone, but all too often games that take themselves too seriously end up being the biggest jokes. Max Payne, Total Recall (Starship Troopers, Robocop if you prefer…), Road Runner, and Monty Python have all mastered the art of fusing dark themes with comedy. We were inspired to do the same. In Lost Orbit, no one expects you to live. Light Spans away from nowhere, without equipment, support, food, or even a convenient way to go to the bathroom, you’re essentially doomed. Even your side-kick Atley, an alien space Probe, reminds you of this on a regular basis. Desperate to prove you’re talented enough to make it through, you’ll press on. When the split second juicy explosion abruptly ends your story and ambitions, you can’t help but laugh. It pulls you back to the reality of the situation: you barely had a chance to begin with. Illustrating DeathWhen we decided Lost Orbit was going to be a challenging game with insta-death, it became apparent that we were going to have to make death entertaining or risk a ton of invoices over broken gamepads and HDTVs. The inspiration behind the visual effects came from sources like Army of Darkness, Looney Toons, and Itchy & Scratchy. Harrison has packed inside his little suit, not only a skeleton, but all of his major organs, modelled and rigged with physics so they plop around the screen when released. In addition, he is crammed with so much blood, that in an instant, you’ll leave a lasting mark on any asteroid you meet. There are dozens of specific custom death sequences that we built in effort to keep losing fresh enough that it challenges you without becoming frustrating. “Good Frustrationâ€, we call it. It is some consolation that if you must die, you can at least make a big mess. In the end, the fragility of your life in Lost Orbit not only adds to the risk, and sense of speed in the game, but also sets up the potential for a well-timed laugh at your expense. It’s a strange way of diffusing the frustration that a challenging game presents, but it works in our case. Sometimes, even death can be a reward, if not for you, at least for the people pointing and laughing. Lost Orbit will launch on May 12th for PS4. We hope you’ll all enjoy our morbid little game. 17. The team at Naughty Dog is excited that Left Behind, the critically-acclaimed and award-winning single-player chapter to The Last of Us, will be available as a standalone download via PlayStation Store. The Last of Us: Left Behind standalone will be available on both PS4 and PS3 starting May 12th for only $9.99. We will be dropping the price of the Left Behind Add-on on PS3 to the same price on that day as well. If you haven’t had a chance yet to check out The Last of Us, this is a nicely priced gateway to checking out the world and characters so many people (and critics) loved. While part of the story of Left Behind takes place during the main narrative arc of The Last of Us, I think some of the best and most touching moments of any game in recent memory occur during the prequel segments, as we follow Ellie and Riley as they sneak out of boarding school to visit an abandoned mall, getting one final chance to enjoy their friendship before Riley leaves to join the Fireflies. You can get more immersed into the story of Ellie and Riley in The Last of Us: American Dreams comic book, published by Dark Horse, co-written by Faith Erin Hicks and The Last of Us Creative Director Neil Druckmann, with interior art by Faith Erin Hicks. I highly, highly recommend it. We realize that most of Naughty Dog fans and readers of PlayStation.Blog will have probably already played The Last of Us and maybe even the Left Behind Add-on chapter — if you enjoyed the games, be sure to tell your friends that haven’t played this great introduction to The Last of Us. We’ve also included a two hour trial of the Factions Multiplayer mode. The Left Behind standalone game will have built-in upgrade paths through the in-game store to both the full Factions experience and/or the full game for The Last of Us. Below are the details on the upgrade possibilities on both PS4 and PS3 after you already own the Left Behind standalone game. 18. Hi. It’s Simon Byron from Curve Digital, and I’m here to tell you that Ultratron is coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita on May 12th. Also, I’m here to tell you what it’s like to be the oldest person alive. I was born in the 70s, which is a decade that no one really remembers because it was pretty grim. Genuinely, I struggle to think of anything good that happened during that time — it was broadly rendered in black and white, and the weather had the default setting of miserable. Things improved dramatically in the following decade. Color was discovered, for example. It was the decade of shoulder pads, big hair, linen trousers, and soft rock. It’s tempting to look back and laugh at People From The 80s, but many things we enjoy now can be traced back to that period. Particularly video games. The 1980s were the years that the video game arcades rose to prominence. Initially popping up on seaside towns, these imposing machines were worshiped by teenagers, drawn towards them with pockets full of change. Compared to now, these arcade cabinets were technically limited, meaning designers learned to innovate, creating stunning games within basic hardware confines. A modern-day doorbell probably has more oomph than some of the games back then. But what they lacked in visuals, they more than made up for in gameplay. We all have our favorites — but surely one game which has the ability to transport anyone of — ahem — a certain age back in time is Robotron 2084. Looking at screenshots of Robotron 2084 these days, it’s impossible to appreciate the sense of terror created by that particular cabinet. It popularized the twin-stick control scheme now used widely across a range of games and genres. Those who managed to digitally carve their initials into the high score tables were truly gods among teenagers. I could not tell you how much I spent on Robotron. But every single coin was worth it. Ultratron — which is out globally on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita (cross buy) on May 12th — is what happens when you take the spirit of Robotron but update it for the PlayStation generation. The last human has been slain by evil killer robots. You are the one remaining humanoid battle droid. Your mission: avenge the human race. Boost your battledroid with power-ups, buy cute but deadly pets in the shop. Blast your way through 40-plus glowing neon levels, avoiding Chasers, Turrets, Spawners, Minelayers, bombs, and bullets, and take on the four giant boss ‘bots of the Apocalypse:†Leiunitas, Bellum, Lues, and Letum. Whilst the core old-school gameplay remains, Puppygames has brought the genre bang up to date, with a host of unlocks and upgrades designed to keep players challenged way into the night. The visuals are hypnotic — modern, with a retro twist. There’s even a simulated CRT screen curve designed to mimic the displays of the era, which were the opposite of high definition. Ultratron will be available on all PlayStation formats on May 12th. We hope you enjoy being transported back in time — without the risk of accidentally splitting your parents up. 20. In February, you wreaked Havoc, now get ready for Ascendance, the next DLC pack for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Available today on PS4 and PS3, Ascendance introduces four new multiplayer maps, a new directed energy weapon, and Infection, the next chapter in Exo Zombies. Click here to see the full gallery For the competitive multiplayer crowd, Ascendance’s four new maps — Perplex, Site 244, Climate, and Chop Shop — will take the fight to new destinations, ranging from an alien crash site beneath Mt. Rushmore to the corridors of a black market exoskeleton complex. But there’s more to the maps than just new environments: Ascendance introduces a new Exo Grappling ability, which allows players to rapidly reach an elevated vantage point. Players will be able to sample the new mechanic in an Exo Grappling ability playlist exclusively for Ascendance maps. Here’s a rundown of each map: Perplex Venture to the streets of Sydney and battle through a five-story modular apartment complex. With elevated vantages and tight corridors, Perplex is small-to-medium sized map that fits a variety of play styles. Construction drones will shake things up, however, as they shift apartment modules and create new strategic pathways. Site 244 An alien craft has crash-landed beneath Mt. Rushmore, USA, making for an awesome medium-to-large sized three-lane map littered with extraterrestrial debris. Gain a competitive edge by earning the map-based scorestreak to open an alien spore that enhances your perks and exo abilities. Climate Settle in to your dome away from home in Climate — a lush climate-controlled bio dome. With a circular layout with a central island structure for teams to fight for control of, Climate keeps the pace of the action high. The tides can turn, however, when the rivers begin to rage and become a treacherous obstacle. Chop Shop Discover the seedy underbelly of the unauthorized exoekeleton trade in Chop Shop, a medium-sized industrial complex with a devastating map-based scorestreak: the Advanced Repulsion Turret. Ascendance also continues the Exo Zombies story with Infection, a brand new chapter wherein the four survivors find themselves on the outskirts of the mutant-ravaged Atlas Corporation facility and facing new, never-before-seen enemies. The returning celebrity cast of John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, RED, Burn After Reading), Bill Paxton (Aliens, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow), Rose McGowan (Planet Terror, Scream), and Jon Bernthal (Fury) fight tooth and nail through undead zombie hordes. To help them in their fight for survival, players will leverage an expanded arsenal of weapons and traps. And if you’re a longtime fan of the series, you might spot a familiar fast food chain within the zombie-filled ruins. That’s right, it’s time for another trip to Burgertown. Lastly, Ascendance introduces a new weapon to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer: the OHM directed energy hybrid weapon. Packing a powerful punch between its two switchable LMG and shotgun modes, the OHM is ideal for laying down suppressing fire or clearing out an objective. For more on Call of Duty, Destiny, Guitar Hero, Skylanders, and more, check out the Activision Games Blog and follow us on Twitter. View the full article

  22. Click here to see the full gallery With House of Wolves, Bungie aims to bring a bigger, more rewarding competitive experience to Destiny. In addition to three new Crucible maps (plus an exclusive fourth map for PS4 and PS3 owners), Bungie is shaking up the formula with more loot and more activities for high-level players. PS4 and PS3 owners will get Timekeeper, a close-quarters battleground set inside a mysterious Vex device amidst the arid dunes of Mars. Black Shield is a medium-sized map set on Phobos. Thieves’ Den is an intimate arena set in the tunnels under Venus. Widow’s Court takes the fight to Earth’s European Dead Zone, a striking thematic departure for Destiny — expect crumbling gothic spires, stained glass, and overgrown plant life. Across the board, Bungie is laser focused on making Crucible matches more rewarding. You’ll earn double the engrams and marks in Crucible matches, as well as guaranteed rewards for participating in the daily featured game. Not bad! Then there’s Trials of Osiris, a new weekly event designed to captivate high-level Crucible players with new challenges and exclusive payouts. The pitch: you gather your best gear and two friends to take on a punishing 3v3 Elimination challenge. The Trials of Osiris challenge opens up each Friday and closes each Sunday. These Elimination matches are tight, intense affairs where every kill counts. Fall, and you’ll need to be revived by a teammate (unless you’re a Warlock sporting that uber-handy Fireborn self-revive ability). The first team to win five rounds claims victory, though you’re free to keep competing again and again all weekend long. To participate in the Trials, you’ll need to buy a Trials Passage from Brother Vance, a new NPC in The Reef, House of Wolves’ new social space. This Passage works like a scorecard; once you’re ready to claim your hard-earned rewards, you’ll hand the Passage into Brother Vance for a shot at winning exclusive weapons and armor. Take note: the Osiris-themed gear is some of the best in the game. House of Wolves comes to PS4 and PS3 on May 19th. Got questions? Let me know in the comments! View the full article
