Hello everybody! Mike here from Pringo Dingo Games, and our first title Paparazzi is out today on PS4! Paparazzi is a 2 player local multiplayer game in which player 1, the celebrity, frantically avoids the camera of player 2, the paparazzi. Avoid the paparazzi to maintain your dignity or catch the celebrity to rack up some money in this fast, frantic, and silly indie game! Each match of Paparazzi is a 1v1 showdown between celebrity and paparazzi. It’s a matchup of predator and prey; the celebrity runs and hides while the paparazzi tries to catch them. Paparazzi is also FAST. We did our best when designing the game to never compromise the speed of play, while still discouraging being “spammyâ€. Each side has a different playstyle, so we want to give you a rundown of how both work… The celebrity is the prey. You’re a small character in each scrolling level, with the ability to hide behind every object in the world. Your main weapon is your dash — you can dash a short distance in the level at any point with only a fraction of a second cool-down. Your job is to misdirect the paparazzi, collect adoring fans to raise your dignity, and slip from cover to cover without losing control of yourself. Each mistake you make will give the paparazzi an advantage to take pictures of you. The paparazzi is the predator. Your opponent plays as a camera reticle hovering over the level, chasing the celebrity around and snapping pictures. While the celebrity is a more classic style of gameplay, your opponent will be using DualShock 4’s motion controls to move their reticle around the screen. The paparazzi’s job is to be relentless, but smart — you can take as many pictures as you’d like! However, a small amount of money will be deducted every time an unsuccessful picture is taken. Each round is a tug of war between the celebrity’s dignity and the paparazzi’s money. Successful pictures of the celebrity gives the paparazzi money. Gaining adoring fans gives the celebrity dignity. You’ll be pushing the score bar at the top back and forth the entire game, and whoever has either more dignity or money when the celebrity gets in the limo will be dubbed the winner! Paparazzi is meant to be a uniquely silly brand of fun. Pringo Dingo Games is formed around a love for silliness and weirdness, and you’ll see it in every corner of the game. From beached whales and slipping on bananas, to redundant level names, we’ve ensured that the game will provide a high “giggles-per-minute†(GPM)* gameplay experience (we’ve measured it at an astounding 8.35 GPM!). Available today on PS4! Only $4.99! *Giggle per Minute is a fictional statistic View the full article

Hi guys! Kim from Defiant Development, here. Today marks the launch of Hand of Fate on PS4, and I wanted to give ya’ll insight into what you should expect while you play this roguelike deckbuilder we hold dear to our hearts. Before I get to the juicy stuff, allow me to talk a bit about Defiant and how Hand of Fate came to fruition. So we’re an indie studio based in Brisbane, Australia (more commonly known as ‘Straya) — home to bird-eating spiders and dingoes that eat babies. At least the beaches and forests are nice. I digress! Over the last four years we’ve built a team of local veterans of the console industry (Pandemic, THQ, SEGA, and Krome), and fresh new talent. A couple of successful mobile games later, we found ourselves in a strong position where the team can bring indie to console, thus the conception of Hand of Fate. In fact, we’ll be the first Australian studio to both self-publish and develop a title for PS4. This is a massive achievement for us, and ‘Straya as a whole! Ok, enough about us. Let’s talk Hand of Fate. Your JourneyProgression When you start Hand of Fate, you are introduced to The Dealer beyond the Thirteen Gates at the End of the World. He challenges you to a game of life and death where you must defeat thirteen bosses to win. With a few magical hand gestures, The Dealer reveals your dungeon layout in the form of encounter cards (quests or missions). You must venture and complete these encounters until you reach and — hopefully — defeat the boss waiting for you at the end of the dungeon run. Bosses Bosses are themed to a suit (monster type) and come in Jack, Queen or King variants — all of which have a unique set of evil characteristics and packs of minions. The suits are: Dust: humans Skulls: skeletons Plague: ratmen-like creatures Scales: lizardmen-like creatures In addition to bosses, you’ll come across unique Ace monster types — these act like wildcard monsters who’ll appear in a random fashion and have an interesting power or skill. For example, The Mage will shoot magic orbs towards the player. Encounters Encounters come in two formats: combat and non-combat. A non-combat encounter will generally present the player with a choice — the result of which will likely affect your health, food and gold stats. A combat encounter will transport the player from the table scene to a beautiful 3D world where you’ll fight randomly drawn monsters with the equipment you’ve collected along the way. In either case, both types come in the form of a Dungeons and Dragon’s type scenario with options to choose from. Be careful and tread gingerly because your choice could mean life or death. Combat Once you enter combat, you’re thrust into an arena, fighting against hordes of monsters in fast-paced, real time. Your success is based upon your ability to amass combos of successful hits while also utilizing your counter attack and dodge roll to avoid enemy attacks. As mentioned earlier, you’ll be facing different enemy suits as you progress through the game, each of which have their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, enemies of the Plague suit will emit a lethal gas at their place of death which will deal damage if you walk through it. You also have hundreds of weapon, armor, gauntlet, ring and helmet combos at your disposal — let’s hope you’ve optimized your deck to suit your current dungeon run (More on that below!). Health and Food It’s super important to keep track of both your health and food stats during each dungeon run. Why? Well health is obvious, but every time you come across a new encounter, you will consume one food. Once you get to zero food, you start taking damage (Adventurers need to eat!). This adds a slice of strategy to how you approach encounters that might ask for food in return for a reward. Feed yourselves, fools! The Dealer Think of The Dealer as a sass-mouthed Dungeon Master. He controls the map layouts, monsters drawn for combat encounters, and the Pain and Gain decks. The Pain and Gain cards are issued at random and are a result of resolved encounters. They act like modifiers to your health, food, and gold. If you’re really lucky/unlucky they’ll bequeath a blessing or curse — passive modifiers that affect gameplay. For example, the Wrath of the Gods blessing will kill one enemy at the beginning of each combat. Deckbuilding and Gaining New CardsDeckbuilding allows players to customize how they play Hand of Fate through the choice of encounter and equipment cards. How Would You Like to Play? Let’s remind ourselves that the aim of the game is to defeat the thirteen bosses. Each boss brings along its minions that have similar characteristics. So it’s in your interests to customize your deck to suit the characteristics of the boss you are trying to find in the dungeon. For example, The Queen of Skulls will scatter an army of skeletons amongst combat encounters. You’ll find that a mace is super effective against the Skulls suit, so naturally, you’d add more maces to your equipment deck. But hey! I’m not going to tell you how you should play. In fact, for you non-deckbuilders out there, there’s an auto-fill option so you can get straight to business. You just may or may not have the most optimized deck for the boss you’re searching for. Maybe you’re feeling lucky? Anyway, you’ve got some control over how many combat versus non-combat encounters you have in your Encounter deck, however, some are locked for the sake of progression or because they’re linked to future encounter cards that have yet to be actioned or unlocked. Get unlockin’! Gaining New Cards To gain new cards you must successfully complete encounter cards that are marked with a red token. Yet another thing to consider as you customize your encounter deck! So there you have it, guys! A bit more on Defiant and Hand of Fate which is available today on PlayStation Store. Happy playing! View the full article

If, one day, 99.9% of humans turned into zombies, what would you do? Deadman’s Cross is a game that depicts such a world. Hello, my name is Shinichi Tatsuke and I’m a producer at Square Enix. I’d like to introduce Deadman’s Cross, a game that launches today on PlayStation Vita. This zombie card battle RPG recorded 4.7 million downloads worldwide last year. And now, it’s coming to Vita as an enhanced, free-to-play game. The setting is America in the year 2030. The government suddenly declares martial law in which everyone is restricted from going outside. You break the law and cautiously step outside — what you see is a world overrun with strange creatures called “Deadmen.†The game is split into two sections: shooting and card battles. In the shooting section, you’ll shoot down Deadman, one after another, as they come after you. You fire away at the Deadmen that emerge in various areas like the town, graveyard, casino, aircraft carrier, and baseball field. In this world, even animals and plants turn into Deadmen. Furthermore, historical figures like Napoleon and Lincoln also appear in-game as Deadmen. You can actually capture the Deadmen you defeat. What are you going to do… collecting zombies? Well, the people of this world are into this particular recreation. Even in these desperate times, a TV network looking for business concocted a program that sets Deadmen against one another to fight… and it’s become a huge hit! People can enter the captured Deadmen into this program to compete. You, too, will soon capture a Deadman, join the fight, and aim for the top spot. These are card-based battles, but the rules are easy to comprehend unlike TCGs — anyone can easily pick up the game. Other than the battle element, the game comes with an enriching story which tends to be rare for free-to-play games. The girl who lost a companion, the head of the circus troupe who is looking for an animal, the hacker who is trying to uncover the mystery to reviving the Deadmen, and more — the array of unique characters is definitely something to look out for. The music is by Naoshi Mizuta, a composer on the Final Fantasy series. All the tracks are very stylish and have a fresh feel to them. I personally really like it. I’ve basically explained everything in one breath, but this should be a new type of game that you have never experienced before in a free-to-play title, nor in a typical console game. I recommend this to all of you who want to continuously defeat zombies, who want to enjoy a variety of zombie illustrations, and who want to experience a zombie story. Why not enjoy this hopeless world together? We’d love for you to download the game and give it a try. View the full article

With the many areas we’ve covered over the months as we approach the launch of The Order: 1886, there’s still one major aspect we haven’t yet addressed: the cast. About a year into the project, once the story and initial script were written, it was time for us to cast our characters. The requirements were pretty stringent, the character sheet was filled with details of each of the protagonists that would make our game and define our world. Finding the right actors for these parts was the last piece of the puzzle to finally make each of our characters come to life. The search was long. It took many months, rounds of casting and auditions with a wide spectrum of extremely talented actors. In the end, it came down to four people who would form the core of the Order’s most elite squad. We finally had our cast. Steve West stepped in the shoes of our protagonist, Sir Galahad. He brought with him the balance and stoicism that Galahad exuded as a time and battle-worn Knight. Alice Coulthard embodies the subtle and complex character traits that define Lady Ingraine; a lady of the Victorian Era with poise and decorum. But behind her facade lies a skilled and deft warrior. Graham McTavish became the de facto leader when he stepped onto our stage. A favorite amongst both game and movie lovers, Graham is Sir Perceval, one of the most senior, wise, and most trusted members of the Order. The Marquis de Lafayette was always going to be a tricky character to approach and Frederik Hamel has done the role justice and much more, bringing the needed joviality and levity to balance our squad. And a certain “je ne sais quoi…†Together our main cast became the backbone of the story and the relationships you will experience in the game. Each of our characters are symbols of the eras they came from. They each have the qualities and faults that are brought on but their respective experience and positions in the history of our world. Those of course not only had to be translated into the script and brought to life by the actors, they also had to be visualized in the creation of their likenesses. View the full article

Nothing better than going to Pizza Hut as a kid and having tables with built-in arcade games like Centipede, Asteroid and of course Q*bert™. That was my childhood in Southeast New Mexico and West Texas growing up. I could not believe it when Loot announced Q*bert™ on the PlayStation Blog. But then again, why not? We had a blast playing Fluster Cluck released earlier this year by Loot and now we get to play one of the all time classics! Jamie Ottilie, CEO of Galaxy Pest Control Games mentioned: “Q*bert: Rebooted remains faithful to the commercially successful 1980’s arcade game while creating an entirely new experience that appeals to today’s savvy gamer. We saw an incredible opportunity by partnering with LOOT to bring Q*bert and his band of adversaries, like Coily, Ugg, and Red Ball, to the 21st Century via PlayStation®.†Now you are not just getting the Classic Q*bert™, you get Q*bert™: Rebooted as well, rated E for everyone and PEGI 3, and is now available for download on PS4™, PS3™ and PSVita™ entertainment systems for $9.99 and $6.99 for PlayStation Plus members (SCEA) and €8.99 and €5.99 for PlayStation Plus members (SCEE.) So for less than $10 you are getting 2 games in one, the original and Rebooted which replaces the cubes with 3D hexagons and introduces new playable characters such as Q*bot, Q*bertha, Q*knight, Q*nicorn, and Q*zilla, along with new enemies, traps, gem collecting, and power-ups. Q*bert™ is a must have for any gamer out there and even better for you parents out there that want to show the kiddos how we gamed back in the day. Too bad there is not a coin slot to collect quarters from the kids like we had to do it! More information on Q*bert: Rebooted or LOOT Entertainment can be found at www.lootentertainment.com. Players can follow Q*bert: Rebooted on Twitter and Facebook or by visiting www.qbert.com. View the full article

Hello everyone, this is Chuck Doud, the Director Of Music for Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios America. Our team produces music for your favorite games from Worldwide Studios that include Journey, The Last Of Us, The Order: 1886, and the God Of War, Infamous and Uncharted series — just to name a few. At PlayStation, we have state-of-art recording and production studios across 3 locations in San Mateo, Los Angeles, and San Diego. These include live recording rooms, 5.1 and 7.1 control rooms, and a small armada of individual production rooms where we record, mix, edit, and implement the music for our games. We also work in recording studios all over the world including Abbey Road and Skywalker Sound. Whether it’s an 80-piece orchestra, a wheelharp player, a 32-piece choir, or a rock band, our team is on the front lines making sure we work with the top talent in the industry to create music for our games. Recently we put the finishing touches on the score we produced for Bloodborne. Our Music Team partnered with From Software and Japan Studio to make sure that Bloodborne had one of the most original, beautiful, and hair-raising scores you’ll hear in a video game. This was our first time working with From Software and the game director Miyazaki-san, and we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to help bring this music to life. The secret to the score’s success is firmly rooted in how the music authentically reflects the character and mood of the game. This authenticity began with the composers, whose music fueled the performances of the musicians and the entire recording team. The end result of this amazing process has produced a score that is broodingly breathtaking in its ability to convey a sense of overwhelming dread, beauty and despair. It is pugilistic, otherworldly and transcendent. And at every turn, every note of every beat, it remains steadfastly informed by the creative vision of Bloodborne’s creator. The score was recorded in London at Abbey Road and Air Studios. It was performed by a 65 piece orchestra, a 32 piece choir, and multiple vocal and instrumental soloists. Over 90 minutes of music was mixed at our recording studios here at the Playstation headquarters in San Mateo. The music was composed by in-house composers at From Software as well as the multiple guest composers. The video will give you a front row seat to the epic recording sessions at Abbey Road and Air Lindherst Studios. Strap yourself in and enjoy the show. View the full article

Hi, it’s Jakub from Grip Games. This week, we launched Unmechanical: Extended for PS4 and PS3. Just like the story of the game, even the development has been a difficult journey full of puzzles and problems. This post-mortem article maps what we think went right and wrong during the development, and what has shaped Unmechanical: Extended into what it is today. Unmechanical started its life as a PC game, developed by Talawa Games and Teotl Studios. At Grip Games, we have a long history of working with other game developers and bringing their games to consoles — The Impossible Game being the best-known among them. But Unmechanical was a completely different beast — created using an AAA engine, bigger than any other game we have made up until then and with a dedicated fan base that would eat us alive if we messed it up. Developing Unmechanical: Extended was really like getting sucked into a dangerous underground world looking for a way to see the daylight again. What Went RightExtending Unmechanical Unmechanical got some rave reviews when it was released on PC, won prestigious awards for its visuals, and had a large community of die-hard fans. But the console version needed to bring something new. More story, more puzzles, and more characters — to make the game longer and to let everyone who enjoyed the original game get something new. And thus Teotl Studios and Talawa Games created Extended — a completely new episode, where we return to the strange Unmechanical complex one more time. And the developers really outdid themselves with Extended. They included a second character in that story, which spends a lot of time with your character, but always separated from him, sometimes working together to solve puzzles, sometimes needing to be saved, or saving you. Extended really took Unmechanical in a great new direction and made the whole game a lot richer. Unreal Engine Unreal is the king of game engines, and when you look at screenshots and trailers from Unmechanical, you’ll immediately see why. Even a small, independent team can create a truly beautiful game, full of visual effects that are usually only associated with AAA projects. It’s not always easy to tame the Unreal Engine beast, as it was made for large-scale projects and not for super-effective indie development, but it rarely became an issue. I think that the game could never look even remotely this good, across several different game platforms, as it does, without Unreal Engine. We have several other games in development and all of them are using Unreal. The Team(s) Unmechanical: Extended was a collaboration between three companies — Grip Games, Teotl Studios, and Talawa Games. Each having their own tasks to do and with people scattered all around Europe, from the Czech Republic and Germany, to Sweden. It could have turned into a disaster, but it actually worked really well. Problems were solved, discussions were friendly, deadlines and milestones were not missed by rage-inducing amounts. Thanks to Unmechanical, we have adopted Unreal engine as our technology of choice for future projects and formed a lot of new friendships and opportunities for the future. I can already say, even when Unmechanical is still just being launches, it was a breakthrough game for us. Problems We FacedStory Unmechanical: Extended has a really experimental narrative for a video game. There is no spoken dialog, no written messages. The whole story is told through the things you see and things you experience. And there are pieces of the story missing intentionally, to let the player’s imagination do the explaining. This has worked only to a certain degree, though. While we were happy to see that each player creatively came with a name of their own for the main hero, many players actually failed to spot the little story elements scattered around the game. Why was the little robot taken and what was supposed to happen to him, who are the other characters and what is their purpose? It’s all there. You just need to have your eyes open. A lot of players just rushed through the game, complaining that it was too short and that it didn’t have a story, instead of slowing down, feeling the atmosphere and unravel the secrets. Maybe we should have just had memos to read, scattered around the levels, or Morgan-Freeman-like voice explain everything in the end. But where’s the mystery in that? Working on Two Projects At Once As we have grown as a studio, we started something that is always a major step for any game studios, small or AAA — we started working on two games simultaneously, with two separate teams and a few people belonging to both projects and some people on top of that, trying to keep it all together. We started working on Unmechanical: Extended while we were still deeply in the development of Jet Car Stunts. And when the development of Jet Car Stunts was finished, we started with Tower of Guns, which is our next upcoming game after Unmechanical: Extended. Juggling two projects at once isn’t easy. It came with its own pains, like moving to a larger office space, getting more development hardware… this really could have ended badly, with missed deadlines, unclear responsibilities, lower production qualities, bad QA, etc. It’s also a riskier state of affairs for an independent, self-funded developer than it is for an AAA studio. You really have to be sure that the games you are making are worth the extra trouble. There were some initial pains, occasional yelling and heightened consumption of coffee, but in the end, it all worked better than we even hoped. Jet Car Stunts is out (with only two months delay), Unmechanical is on time, and Tower of Guns is actually ahead of schedule. And so, after nine months of development, over twenty people involved, four platforms supported, and one production baby born, Unmechanical: Extended was launched this week. We all hope you’ll like it. View the full article

Hi PlayStation fans, the first Just Cause 3 trailer is here! It’s very hard to put into words just how excited we are about sharing a first glimpse of the game that we have been pouring our hearts and souls into. It’s a big moment for all of us in the studio. Our “Firestarter†CG trailer hints at some of the new features we’re bringing with Just Cause 3, and sets the tone for what you can expect from the first look at gameplay that we’re working hard on. This time around it’s more about Rico than ever before. What motivates him to travel the world from one stunning location to the other? What drives him to destroy in order to preserve freedom? Well, you will find out in due course. I can already hear you saying: “Just give us the gameplay!†All I can say is: I know. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on, and we take a lot of pride in it. That’s why we want to make sure the first gameplay trailer we put out shows what Just Cause 3 is about, and that it meets both ours and your expectations. And that takes time. We don’t want to rush things and disappoint the very community that has been supporting us for so long. So, while you wait, please kick back and enjoy the soothing explosions of the Firestarter trailer. Soon enough, there will be plenty of “holy sh*t†moments to go around for everyone as we increase the mayhem level a few notches with the very first look at gameplay. Please enjoy, and let us know what you think in the comments below! View the full article

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and maybe that means you’ll be off on a romantic break. You may want to curl up by a fire with friends or a loved one, but what if your trip turned into more than you bargained for? Until Dawn | PlayStation.com As you may know by now, Until Dawn sees a group of eight friends on their annual mountain getaway, which turns into a night of sheer terror. However, before things go awry you’ll get to know the characters and understand the complex relationships in their social circle. When you start the game you will meet the characters as they couple off around the house (by choice or circumstance) before their holiday turns into an all-out fight for survival. If you’ve watched previous trailers and demos you’re already familiar with Ashley and Chris and their ‘will-they won’t-they’ friendship. One of our favorite things about this dynamic is that their relationship is not pre-defined at the beginning of the game; your choices will decide if the relationship either blossoms or wilts before the night is out. That is, if they survive. Choice is a central tenet of Until Dawn. Your actions not only determine who lives or dies, but will also directly influence the relationships between the characters (romantic or otherwise). You will even influence how characters react to each other. If you are mean to a friend, they may or may not choose to save you later in the game. The narrative will always continue forward, adapting to your decisions throughout the game – meaning that your game will be noticeably different from anyone else’s. As with everything in Until Dawn, whether you choose to play cupid or become a heartbreaker is up to you. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy our special Valentine’s themed trailer! Hi PlayStation Nation! I’m extremely excited to announce PlayStation HEROES, a brand new initiative that will give PS4 owners the chance to play celebrities and professional athletes in the games of their choosing, with nearly all proceeds going to charity. This is not a one-time event – gamers will get the chance to challenge celebs every month. Winners will play some of the biggest PS4 games with cultural icons from the sports and entertainment worlds, online via PlayStation Network and in person. Here’s how it works: PS4 owners will purchase and download digital themes and other items via an official PlayStation HEROES app, with each dollar spent providing you with a sweepstakes entry to win one of the celebrity gaming sessions. Proceeds from the sales of those items will help aid some amazing charitable organizations including Make-A-Wish America, The USO and The V Foundation for Cancer Research. To celebrate PlayStation HEROES and kick start our support for these incredible causes, we’re donating $100,000 to each charity. The official PlayStation HEROES app for PS4, which will be available for download on February 24 from PlayStation Store, will be your portal not just to purchase the digital content for entries, but also to find information on future celebrity participants, view videos of your fellow gamers playing celebs, and earn badges. The first PlayStation HEROES event will feature legendary snowboarder Shaun White playing Bungie’s Destiny in mid-March. Starting today, you can pre-order the PlayStation HEROES app and gain early access to purchase dynamic themes, which serve as entries to win a chance to play Destiny with Shaun next month. You’ll be able to pick between a $1, $5, $10 or $15 theme, with each dollar spent counting as one sweepstakes entry. There will also be a special $20 bundle for all four themes that will count as 31 entries. Proceeds from entries to play with Shaun will benefit Make-A-Wish America. I can’t wait to watch PlayStation Nation take on Shaun White and other celebrities in some of the biggest games on PS4, all while lending a hand to benefit the great causes these charities fight for. We all believe in giving back to the community – and why not give back with the very thing we all love so much? Gaming! Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events and don’t forget to pre-order the app today so that you are ready for the app’s official launch on February 24. What celebrities, professional athletes and charities would you like to see take part in PlayStation HEROES? Let us know and we’ll start working on setting you all up for the play of a lifetime! Starting today, PlayStation Network (PSN) users will gain the ability to upgrade a sub account to a master account. We’re always listening to user feedback, and this is a feature that many of you have asked for. You’ll be able to upgrade an account first through the web and later through PlayStation 4. Instructions on how to start this process through the web can be found here. In case you aren’t familiar, sub accounts allow users under the age of 18 to access PSN while letting parents or guardians manage their online experience. A variety of PSN features can be limited through sub accounts including messages, monthly spending limits, and gameplay broadcasts. Additional information is available on our Knowledge Center, here. If you were on a sub account and turned 18 (Happy belated birthday!), you may want to upgrade to a master account to access the full feature set of PlayStation’s online experience, including PlayStation Store. Your profile will be carried over when upgrading to a master account, along with items like your friends list and Trophies. View the full article

Hi, I’m Dan Holbert, designer and programmer of Paperbound, a crazy new brawler coming soon to PS4. I’d like to share our trailer, talk a bit about the game, and answer any questions you have. It’s been a long journey filled with 7-day work weeks, so the team is happy that a lot of people have really enjoyed it. Paperbound is a game where you run with scissors and walk on walls — all in the context of old books that have come to life. It’s a local multiplayer brawler. Two-to-four players fight it out in single-screen arenas from the pages of old books including A Journey to the Center of the Earth, Dante’s Inferno, Musashi’s Book of Five Rings, the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, and Skull Kingdom. Magic dust has brought the characters from these books to life and given them the ability to manipulate gravity. Your gravity reorients to match the surface you’re traveling along. You can also flip your gravity 180 degrees at any time for quick surprise attacks and fly-by decapitations. It’s both wacky and full of intense competition. There’s something about running up a wall and then flying across the screen while throwing scissors shuriken-style that just never gets old for me. With Paperbound, I wanted to create something that is fast and twitchy, but that also has depth. Three weapons interact in a variety of ways that require you to be fast with both your reflexes and your strategizing. The melee attack is your bread and butter, fast and deadly. Throw scissors for precision long-range attacks. The ink bomb is a more advanced weapon that can take out several opponents at once but requires skill to avoid it backfiring on you. We often compare Paperbound to Smash Bros. because that’s a well-known game, and because we feature playable characters from a number of other games, but if you’re familiar with TowerFall or Samurai Gunn, those are closer comparisons. But whereas those excellent games have 8-bit aesthetics, the hand-drawn environments of Paperbound allow for 360 degrees of gravitational freedom and a wide variety of arenas. Paperbound has 11 original characters from the pages of the books, plus a number of playable cameo characters including Juan Aguacate from Guacamelee!, The Locksmith from Monaco, and Captain Viridian from VVVVVV. There are 18 levels spread among the 5 books, and four different game modes in both free-for-all and team varieties. One of my favorites is playing Capture the Quill in the Labyrinth arena. And I think you’ll appreciate the twist we put on the basic versus mode. Rather than the game simply ending when a certain score count is reached, a tear opens in the page, and the leading player has to exit through it in order to win, changing things up and creating a great finale. I wanted to add something that rewards mastery of the physics and brings in the tension of games like Nidhogg, and this hit the mark. Paperbound will be available on PS4 soon. Thanks for reading. Please ask us any questions. We’d love to answer them. View the full article

Well, last year’s list of all upcoming PS4 games was such a success that we’ve decided to do you one better by creating a mammoth list of all known PlayStation games planned for release in 2015 in North America. The list is a real monster, comprised of games across PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. The usual caveats apply. Development schedules sometimes shift, so this list can (and will) change as the months go by. But we’re planning to keep this updated all year long to reflect any changes, so feel free to bookmark it for future reference. Did we miss something? Drop us a comment below and we’ll investigate! No Man’s Sky A celebration of science fiction and the vast expanses within. No Man’s Sky will empower players to traverse a limitless universe and dare the unknown, forging their own stories among the stars. Axiom Verge Harness the power of old-school game glitches in Axiom Verge, a metroidvania-inspired passion project created and developed completely by one man(!) Hotline Miami 2 The hyperviolent Hotline Miami left us asking for more, more, more, and developers Dennaton have provided in kind. Wrong Number looks to somehow be even more brutal than its predecessor. Salt & Sanctuary Invoking some serious “Souls†vibes on a 2D plane, Salt & Sanctuary looks like an early contender for “Can’t Put it Down Game of the Year†The Forest As the lone survivor of a passenger jet crash, battle to stay alive against a society of cannibalistic mutants… and boy are they hungry! Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel on PS4! What more do we need to say? How about all DLC ever released for both games? Yeah, that too. The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Zenimax and Bethesda bring the revered RPG series to PS4 in The Elder Scrolls Online, encouraging players to venture into a rich fantasy world, rife with friends and foes alike. Mortal Kombat X Mortal Kombat X combines dynamic cinematic presentation and an expanded combat system to create the most brutal kombat ever. Bonus: some of the most gruesome Fatalities in MK history Bloodborne A collaboration between FromSoftware and Japan Studio, Bloodborne is host to a nightmarish, gothic world teeming with horrific beasts, and the weapons with which players will hunt them. MLB 15: The Show In MLB 15: The Show, players will earn licensed equipment from baseball’s most recognizable brands, experience the series’ most lifelike graphics yet, and more. Batter up! The Order: 1886 Step into the boots of Sir Galahad himself in The Order: 1886, a graphical stunner that explores an alternate Neo-Victorian London and features fantastical weapons based on arcane technology. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Naughty Dog is not only pushing PS4 to new graphical heights in A Thief’s End, they’re finding new ways to expand Drake’s combat repertoire too. Dat grappling hook! Until Dawn Experience the psychological thriller that pushes the boundaries of the horror genre. Be careful – every choice has its consequence. Yakuza 5 Yakuza 5 pulls players back into the seductive and dangerous Japanese underworld where honor, vengeance, and redemption paint the streets of Japan red with blood. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Explore a massive, morally indifferent world as Geralt of Rivia, a charming and equally dangerous warrior. Geralt has endured the rise and fall of kingdoms, lost love, and betrayal, but his quest is far from over. First let’s get the big news out of the way: Pillar is coming to PS4 on February 17th for $7.99, and PS Plus members will get a 10% discount for the first week after launch! If this is your first time hearing about the game, it’s a collection of minigames, where each game represents a different type of personality we find in people. This is the third entry in a series of posts I’ve made about the game, so if you’re interested I’d recommend checking out the other ones. I cover the inspirations for the game here, and reveal the first gameplay trailer plus talk about the soundtrack here! I’d like to drop the professionalism cloak for a second and say a few things. The first is that I hope most people find the price to be fair; I struggled with pegging one down. I started working on Pillar in August 2012, and it’s been my life ever since so it’s hard to put a price tag on that. It means the world to just have people play it, but I’m also trying to make a living so I want to charge something that will let me keep doing this full time. The game takes around five hours to 100% complete, and I feel each part of the game is unique; there isn’t any filler in Pillar. (Sick rhyme!) This isn’t an award speech, but I wouldn’t have made it to the finish line without others helping me. First, thanks to Nick Suttner from PlayStation for helping me bring the game to PS4; yes, it’s his job to help, but you can tell many at PlayStation are passionate about games and that’s what makes PS4 look attractive to devs. Thanks Tom Spilman and the MonoGame team for enabling me to bring Pillar over from a technical perspective. Thanks to the XNA community for helping me learn programming, I’m self-taught and from the middle of nowhere so I owe this to them. Thanks to my family and friends for testing the game, helping with sound effects and being there for me. Finally, thanks to everyone on the blog that left comments or emailed me… working alone for so long wears on you, so seeing people excited was the fuel I needed to make it through this final lap. Thanks for reading. I’ll see everyone on the 17th! View the full article

Hey all, Ian Pickles from XDEV Studio Europe here and I’m pleased to announce that Resogun Defenders, the second expansion for Resogun, will be available in a little under a week from now on February 17th for $4.99 and is free of charge to all existing season pass owners. The Defenders expansion brings with it a huge amount of new content for the game and we’ve worked really hard to make this final expansion a fitting send off for Resogun. What’s more is that in order to prepare you for the arrival of Defenders, we are pleased to announce that our latest content update, Resogun Challengers will be made available free of charge to all players as of today! Resogun Defenders takes place during our last stand against the overwhelming Sentient forces. Pushed back to an unknown planet you will take the fight to the bad guys in two all new game modes. Protector and Commando. Protector Mode sees you taking to the skies to defend one of the last human colonies remaining. Utilize all new power-ups including Super Boost, Teleport, and automatic city defences; take down the enemy and deliver as many of the last humans to each city in order to extend your grip on the planet. Protector Mode features an all new planet flip mechanic and environmental hazards such as volcanic meteors to avoid while fighting off the never-ending enemy invasion. Commando mode lets you play as the Last Human who was left behind. Stranded on a distant planet with only a mini-gun to defend him he takes the fight directly to the Sentients in the ultimate arcade revenge mode. Jump, boost and equip your favorite bandana as you aim to defend your home from waves of enemies, volcanic meteors and more in this all new mode. What’s more is that Commando mode supports both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes. Team up with a friend to fight the good fight or turn against each other to outsmart your opponent and destroy their house from under their nose. We’ve named the competitive mode Battle Mode and hope you have as much fun fighting it out with your friends as we have had here. Resogun Defenders also includes an all new Trophy set for you to achieve and leaderboards to climb to prove your worth as the best pilot out there. So as mentioned above we need to update the game to get it ready for the arrival of Defenders and that gives us the opportunity to add a bunch of new content for everyone free of charge while we do it! This brings us to Resogun Challengers, our all new content update launching today for all players. Resogun Challengers is the largest content update to date for the game and brings with it a new system of player levelling which is achieved by earning Challenge Points as a reward for completing new challenges and feats across all existing game modes. Challenges task you with playing a specific level or game mode with different rules or modifiers designed to provide a new challenge. Can you rescue 200 humans in a single level if every enemy drops one, or better yet can you complete survival mode using the Super Stardust Ship? Challenges change things up and give everyone a reason to revisit all Resogun game modes for a new experience. Performing well will award Challenge Points which will advance your player level higher unlocking rewards and bragging rights. Alongside the Challenges we have also included Feats. These are long goals that are tracked across all game modes and award Challenge Points for achieving huge milestone goals. Have you rescued a cumulative 1,000 humans or just dodged 13 wrecking balls in Demolition Mode? There’ll be a Feat and reward for that. Only a true Resogun Hero can ever hope to achieve all the Feats but we’re sure you’ll have fun trying. Human Gallery and Photo ModeThe Resogun Challengers update also contains an all new Human Gallery to organize and select your collected Human types, and the much requested Photo Mode which allows you to pause and capture stunning screenshots of all the voxel based action exploding on screen. We’re looking forward to seeing some of the shots captured by the players. To top it all off, the Challengers Update also contains a bunch of new Trophies for you to earn — designed around the challenges and feats these will test the skills of even the finest Resogun pilots out there. Finally I’m happy to announce that for those of you that have yet to play Resogun there has never been a better time. To celebrate the launch of Resogun Defenders we are offering 33% off the retail price of the full game for the next two weeks. Additionally, anyone who purchase the season pass will immediately gain access to our previous expansion, Heroes, and the additional humans available in the store. We look forward to launching Resogun Defenders and can’t wait to see you all climbing the leaderboards and beating the biggest challenges ever seen in Resogun. We’ll be back soon with more Human news and updates on the Original Soundtrack for season pass holders. View the full article

Hello there, PlayStation people! Simon here, reporting from the epicentre of skate that is Roll7 HQ. 2014 was a mental year for the team here in New Cross, London — we couldn’t have imagined getting SO much love for our little skatey game, OlliOlli. OlliOlli2 might seem like it has hit Beta status quite quickly, but when you consider that we feature locked on the Vita original in August 2013 — it seems like we have been honing this bad boy for ages! We have now completed all user testing and locked about 95% of features while Sam, our Head of QA, does his evil magic and tries to break the game six ways from Sunday. So, whats new in OlliOlli2? Well — much like THPS2 we have added Manuals and Combos — a serious game changer allowing a player to chain together combos like some kind of skate ninja from the future. As combos increase, so do the score potentials — so we have added a section to the HUD which shows what a potential score WOULD be if the current combo was landed Perfect. We also have grind switches — a super satisfying maneuver allowing you to switch between 2 grind types (if you nail the grind perfect). On top of this we have also added epic tricks, with longer animation times — which require enough air-time to successfully nail… mmmm, Epic Tricks… Level-wise, things have been stepped up to the max with curved ground, ramps and rails — which adds a whole new flow to proceedings. Reminiscent of the Tiny Wings feel at points, with the compression and release out of ramps, hours will be lost to just jamming and chilling in the skatepark level — learning the ropes! Dre (our gameplay designer) has also added split routes that can only be accessed by nailing a perfect launch on a ramp. Not to mention secret routes, hidden from the beaten path, allowing you to collect the Roll7 devs! We ALSO have a totally new mode, Combo Rush — but more on that in a blog post later this month! We wanted to let people know a bit more about our neck of the woods, and the plan for the sequel — so we made this little video! Check it out… View the full article

Hello, PlayStation.Blog friends! Today we’re revealing some details about three new features in MLB 15 The Show: Universal Rewards, Licensed Equipment, and our 30 Legends. Keep an eye on our new Twitch channel for even more in-depth coverage of our robust new feature set! In the last couple years, we’ve added something we call your Universal Profile, which tracks your playstyle tendencies and passively rewards you with XP and Stubs while you play. This year, in addition to XP and Stubs, you’ll earn new Items usable throughout different game modes. Road to the Show is a mode focused on one player’s path to the majors and beyond. As you play, you’ll find different qualities of licensed equipment that can enhance your player’s attributes. Once you find them, you’ll equip them to your player for an instant boost to his skill. Your player has slots for a Bat, Batting Gloves, Fielding Glove, Cleats, and echoing the traditions of our sport, a Ritual item. Franchise is a mode focused on managing baseball organizations on every level. Periodically, you’ll find Brand Sponsorship contracts. Once you have the contract in hand, you can choose at any time to partner your Franchise team with the Brand. Doing so will add some Brand flavor to your interface during game broadcasts. The Sponsorship also earns your team budget incentives based on how you performance in a certain statistic. Diamond Dynasty is a fantasy baseball card mode where you build a custom team and assemble players you find into a squad. Diamond Dynasty is DRASTICALLY changed this year so keep an eye out for a more focused blog about it. MLB Player Cards and Stadiums Cards will be rewarded as you play. While playing ANY mode, you’ll be passively building a fantasy squad of MLB pros. Collect an entire MLB team or get REALLY lucky with a pack, and you’ll unlock an iconic alumni player from one of 30 MLB teams. We’re very excited this year that we’ve partnered with nine iconic baseball brands to bring items from their product catalog directly into the game. We are lucky to have such amazing partners. Check out this list of awesomeness: Franklin® Louisville Slugger® Nike® Under Armour® Wilson® Rawlings® Sam Bat® Mizuno® Marucci® Before you bolt, make sure to check out the tail end of the video for the epic reveal of the 30 Legends cards included in MLB 15 The Show. Warframe’s latest update arrives today, bringing a whole new set of weapons and game modes for Space Ninjas to sink their teeth into. With new social Relays to explore, Syndicates to discover, the return of an old nemesis, and an epic struggle in space against a towering foe, this update to our free sci-fi shooter looks to be one of the biggest yet. The villain Vey Hek has been threatening the Solar System with his fleet of Balor Fomorian vessels for as long as anyone can remember, but we always thought that was part of his charm — like an old man sitting on the front porch waving angry fists at Tenno whippersnappers that walk too fast. Kind of adorable, in his own way. Unfortunately, the time has come for Vey Hek to finally make his move. His Fomorian space fleet threatens to tip the balance of power in the Solar System, and he’s made it clear that this deployment isn’t just a strategic plot against the Lotus and her Tenno. It’s a personal attack. Tenno RelaysRelays are the newest addition to Warframe’s Tenno socialization systems. They are space stations that orbit various planets where players can interact with one another between missions. Accessing a specific Relay only requires a player first unlock the planet where the Relay is located. Once that’s complete the Relay is accessible at any time. While on a Relay, players can form squads, change loadouts, chat, or visit any of the Syndicate rooms to purchase Offerings. Players can also turn in Medallions found in Syndicate Missions for bonus Standing. The rooms have some amazing aesthetics, so be sure to give them all a visit! Relays are going to expand further with unique Clan rooms, special merchants, and potentially even special quests. There will be a stress-test period for Relays open to players that are migrated Founders, Mastery Rank 10+, and anyone who has purchased a Prime Access pack. Once stress testing is completed, Relays open to everyone! Operation: Eyes of BlightAs mentioned, in this update the enemy Vey Hek’s Balor Fomorian space fleet is upon us, and the sheer firepower contained within each ship means there’s very little that can contest their might. That does not mean they are without weakness. While larger vessels or space stations are threatened by Fomorian weaponry, smaller vehicles need only contend with the Fomorian’s anti-personnel defenses. Players need to use Archwings to fight through the depths of space and find a way inside the Balor Fomorian vessels to shut down their main reactors — all while avoiding overwhelming Grineer space forces. Gathering the resources required to penetrate Fomorian shields may take some time, but it’s best to work quickly. Once a Fomorian has begun its approach toward one of the new social Relay Stations the only way to save the Relay from explosive destruction is to bring down the Grineer ship before it reaches firing range. No pressure. This global event, titled “Eyes of Blight†begins shortly after Relay stress-testing has concluded, so enjoy the peace while you can, Tenno. Void TraderWhile the wheelin’ and dealin’ merchant, Darvo, is still setting up shop on the new social Relays, there is one merchant on the Relays that may be of some interest. Baro Ki’Teer, the Void Trader, only appears once every two weeks — but when he does it’s kind of a big deal. A collector of rare and valuable goods, Baro Ki’Teer is happy to give Tenno access to his inventory, provided they can pay with his preferred currency. Players can exchange Prime parts for Orokin Ducats at either Void Trader terminal located in any Relay. Ducats are a currency used only by Baro Ki’Teer, and can only be earned through trading in unused Prime gear. No one’s really certain what he does with all the spare Prime goods, but when unique Primed Mods, rare weapons, and armor customizations are available for purchase it’s hard to worry about the small details. New Archwing and Archwing WeaponsJust in time to help put an end to the Fomorian threat is a brand new spacefaring Archwing: the Itzal. Made for stealth and support operations, the Itzal has the unique ability to cloak all players within a close proximity, launch support drones, and even teleport a short distance. It can also create miniature black holes, which are as dangerous as they are fun. Joining the Itzal are two new weapons: the Fluctus energy Arch-gun and the Centaur sword-shield. Both weapons are perfect compliments to the Itzal’s fast-paced hit-and-run combat, but there are no rules against mixing and matching with other Archwing models! These additions add further playability to the recently added space combat gameplay attached to our previous Archwing update. New WeaponsCreating new and exciting ways to cause death in others is a staple of Tenno culture, and this update includes a few choice tools that are wonderful additions to any Arsenal. The Kohm Spark Gun is a unique plasma shotgun that becomes deadlier with successive shots. Holding down the trigger lets the Kohm spit out additional pellets at the cost of accuracy and extra ammo consumption. For up-close and personal attacks, the Tipedo is remarkably deadly, and staff-wielding Tenno can finally rejoice at having a way to both slash and pummel the enemy with only a single tool! Another option for long-range slashing is the Panthera, a sawblade launching rifle that cuts through enemies at a distance. It also boasts a unique secondary fire that hovers a sawblade a short distance ahead — perfect for home improvement projects, cake cutting, and creating Infested fertilizer. New EnemiesVey Hek isn’t the only one up to new tricks! The Orokin Corrupted, likely tired of being mauled by Tenno weaponry, have upped the ante by growing their ranks. New enemies, Corrupted Butchers, now appear in any Orokin Void Mission type. Corrupted Rocket Bombards and Corrupted Nullifier Crewman also appear in Void missions, but are limited to T3 and T4. Raiding the Void for those rare Prime parts just got that much more dangerous. New Game ModeA new twist on an old classic, the Corpus Hijack mission type has now been added to Sorath, Europa. Similar to the original Hijack, Corpus Hijack has Tenno escort an ATV loaded with valuable Corpus information to its extraction point. Of course, the Corpus probably have a thing or two to say about Tenno stealing their stuff and loading it onto the space-van. Players need to stay close to the vehicle, fend off Corpus assault teams and keep the information safe from damage. Should the ATV be destroyed the mission is deemed a failure, so keep a sharp eye on the prize when trying out Europa’s latest Mission. New Customization FeaturesSome great news for anyone who wants that extra bit of customization: unique Sigils are free for all PS4 Tenno! Be sure to check your inbox to receive this unique Warframe customization. The first of our User Generated Skins are also now available for purchase. These skins were created and voted on by our wonderful community, and we’re proud to be able to share the end result with everyone. 25% of Platinum sales made by each UGC Skin purchased goes directly to the skin creator. We’ve also opened up the Liset and Dojo customization options to include some interior recoloring. Dojo Poloychrome can be used to recolor Dojo rooms to something your clan may find more suitable. Perhaps a dash of pink and green? Orange and blue? Yellow splashed with brown? There’s no need to take our advice, but we’re pretty sure that color palette would make for an unforgettable Dojo. With Vey Hek’s Fomorian Fleet threatening Tenno progress, Update 15.10 puts a lot on the line. Of course. No conflict is without casualties, but for every inch of space the Grineer claim, the Tenno can show them the true cost of bringing the fight to the Lotus’ doorstep. View the full article

I’m pleased to announce that Minutes will be available on PlayStation Store today. It’s a unique, abstract action game with retro DNA, a pure arcade heart, a super-clean visual style and music to get you in the zone! Inspired by a need to rebel against AAA titles, I’ve designed a minimalist game. Minutes is all about gameplay purity. There are no cutscenes or dialogue trees here. It’s stripped down to the fundamentals — move, collect, avoid, gauge risk vs. reward, think and react. The challenge unfolds across 60 one-minute levels, chasing the score targets and other goals with different “energy shapes†to test you and various power-ups to unlock and assist you. The mechanics at the game’s core are simple: the player controls a circle and moves it around the screen to collect light energy shapes (for points) and avoid dark (which damage the player). On top of this, the size of the circle can be changed (using the L and R shoulder buttons). Go small to stay safe and dodge through the dark energy. Go large to collect more light and, critically, boost your score multiplier. This is the magic risk-reward ingredient in the design. Each level is about chasing target scores, whether to progress or to post up onto PSN leaderboards. Mastering the game means beating other goals: 100% collected, no damage taken and the tough Perfect. Effective use of power-ups (which are unlocked as the game progresses) is an important tool but only one can be used per level. Beginning players might use Fortify to clear damage; or some levels will need Quell to slow down time enough to allow everything to be collected. Figuring out which power-up to use is part of the late-game puzzle solving. The game begins with energy shapes that are straight lines. But these are soon joined by Pulsers, Beams and Spinners. These provide for an infinite range of patterns and configurations that encourage the player to adapt and react. As the game matures for the player it becomes more familiar and shifts from a twitch-based, reactive experience to a more puzzling and strategic one. Each level of the main game mode remains the same every time so they can be learned, figured out, and beaten. However, as an alternative, the Daily Challenge mode allows you to try a completely new, randomly generated level every day. Minutes is cross buy supported and, if you’re playing on PS4 and Vita, you can use the cross save sync to transfer your data and continue playing without worrying about overwriting. This option merges your progress and scores from both platforms. I’m hoping that more games will take this approach in the future. If you want a quick break from crashing cars, running through forests and shooting people in the face, then perhaps it’s time for a few minutes of gameplay purity. Thanks for reading. Throw me some questions and comments below and I’ll answer as much as I can. View the full article
