Hi there! My name is Jordan Hemenway and I’m one of the developers at Refract, a Seattle-based indie studio. I’m excited to finally unveil that we’re bringing our survival racer Distance to PS4 in 2015, and you’ll be able to play it at PlayStation Experience this weekend! Distance is what we’re calling a survival racing game. It takes the intense action of arcade racing and places it in an explorable, atmospheric world. The environments are mysterious and deadly with treacherous obstacles around every corner. Instead of doing laps on a loop, you’ll be trying to survive from point A to point B. Fortunately you control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly. Instead of being constrained to the track, you can break away at any point and find your own path. You can even drive upside down or on buildings and walls parkour-style if you like. Multiplayer takes this to the next level. To overtake your opponents you’ll have to use all of the car’s abilities at your disposal. For example, in Sprint mode it’s a quick dash to the finish with the goal being the fastest time. As you boost, your car’s core systems will begin to overheat, so to maintain the fastest speed you’ll have to land tricks (like backflips or barrel rolls) to stay cool. In Reverse Tag mode you want to remain “it” for as long as possible. As other players start closing in you might want to scale a building for a quick escape, or dive bomb from a high point to use gravity to your advantage. Using car rotation to transition out of flight might be the best way to keep your momentum and stay in the lead. The world has a mysterious history, and as you explore you’ll be able to uncover pieces of its past. Adventure mode takes you through a short story where you incrementally earn each of the car’s abilities and use them to survive the increasingly deadly environment. Crafting a story within a racing game has been one of the most enjoyable parts of the development so far. Without spoiling too much, we’re incredibly excited to have you discover the dark mysteries of this world. All of us at Refract hope to see you at PlayStation Experience! For more info about our ongoing development and to sign up for our newsletter simply visit Distance’s website here. If you have any questions let us know in the comments below! View the full article

A foul evil stirs beneath the surface of the Moon — a dark legacy that has threatened countless lives. And now, as the Hive legend known as Crota prepares to unleash the strength of the Hellmouth upon Earth, Guardians of the Last City take up their arms in courageous resistance. The Dark Below is coming. It’s the first Destiny expansion and it launches on December 9th. What better way to celebrate the holidays than to clash with a seething evil of ancient origin? If you’ve been defending the Traveler’s Light since launch, The Dark Below expands the world of Destiny with a wealth of new maps, story missions, and gear. PlayStation gamers also have exclusive content to look forward to, which we’re revealing here for the first time. First up, another exclusive Strike to face on Mars: The Undying Mind.* You can step back into the coveted dangers of The Black Garden to face a timeless Vex machine-beast that has survived for ages. Prepare for firefights amidst vine-laden pillars and decaying paths in an effort to destroy the ancient evil. And if you need more firepower to match your new foes, look no further than the PlayStation-exclusive exotic weapon coming to The Dark Below, The 4th Horseman shotgun.* Four barrels, five shots, and a sizzlingly fast fire rate will eat away at the Vex legions in short order. Now steel yourself; here’s just a taste of the other content coming with the expansion. New story missions that pit you against a Hive god. New weapons, armor, and gear to further customize your Guardian. The ability to increase your Light level to 32, and five additional bounty slots. Three new competitive multiplayer maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron. New cooperative Strike: The Will of Crota. Purge a twisted horror from the Cosmodrome. An additional resident of the Tower: Eris, a resolute survivor of an ill-fated mission. And a new six-player Raid: Crota’s End. Face him in the deepest dark. If you want to try The Dark Below before it launches on December 9th, come to PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas and go hands-on with the upcoming expansion before its secrets are revealed to the rest of the world. Head here to get tickets. *Timed exclusive until at least Fall 2015. View the full article

Hey PlayStation fans! Today we are delighted to share the season premiere launch trailer for Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series. The first of six episodes, ‘Iron from Ice’, debuts Tuesday, December 2nd (that’s TOMORROW) for download on PS4! PS3 follows next week on Tuesday, December 9th. This new story tells of House Forrester, a noble family from the north of Westeros, loyal to the Starks of Winterfell. Caught up in the events surrounding the War of the Five Kings, they are thrown into a maelstrom of bloody warfare, revenge, intrigue, and horror as they fight to survive while the seven kingdoms tear themselves apart. So who can you expect to play as in this series? You’ll actually experience five different points of view, each a member of House Forrester. Playing as five characters reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but more than that, the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester — so you’ll need to be mindful of how your actions as one character may affect the rest of your house. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you’re truly playing the Game of Thrones… where you win, or you die. You’ll meet and interact with several characters you already know and love (or hate) from the HBO TV series as well. We’ve already revealed Tyrion Lannister performed by Peter Dinklage, Cersei Lannister performed by Lena Heady, Margaery Tyrell performed by Natalie Dormer, and Ramsay Snow performed by Iwan Rheon. There will definitely be a couple more… but we’ll leave you to discover those for yourself! As ever, thanks for reading. Be sure to let us know your (spoiler-free) thoughts in the comments below! We hope you enjoy the premiere episode, and look forward to sharing the rest of the season with you. View the full article

I have a love/hate relationship with real time strategy games. I love them, but I hate playing them. Let’s face it: RTSes are miserable pain engines designed to give players the worst possible experience. They’re kind of fun (though deeply stressful) right up until the first interaction with another player and then it’s all downhill for the next forty-or-so minutes. You play until someone gives up. They are lonely exercises in sadomasochism. Anyway hello. My name is Asher Vollmer and I intend to fix all that with my new game, Close Castles. I made Threes because I love small, minimalist games. Close Castles is no different. The games are incredibly quick: they average around three minutes each on the fastest game speed. Buliding the game for a controller has inspired me to make the controls as simple as possible. You move your cursor around the field and press a button to build structures. What you build and where you build it will determine you and your opponent’s collective fate. The game is built for local multiplayer, so there’s no hidden information. This means that the game feels a lot more like a fighting game at higher levels. It becomes about reading your opponent and turning the tiny cracks in their strategy into a crumbling pile of failure / rubble. This game is all about destroying buildings, so there’s a lot of rubble in it. The premise of Close Castles is simple: You and your greatest rival have built your castles WAY too close to each other. Your job is to build up your kingdom (despite the cramped quarters) while simultaneously sending out your loyal citizens to tear down the enemy’s vulnerable castle. We plan to have an amazing, harrowing story that somehow justifies the fact that all these castles were built in such proximity. Did I mention the game is cute as heck? I’ve teamed up with Dominique Ferland, one of the most talented cutie-based artists in the world. He manages to create these incredible settings and characters that are simultaneously iconic and appealing and evocative as heck. I’m proud to be working alongside him to make this brutally strategic game look even remotely approachable. Close Castles will be coming to consoles some time in 2015. But if you’re looking to play the game AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE come visit us at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas! We’ll be crushing castles all weekend! View the full article

Hello again, PlayStation fans! I’m Greg Bauman from Edge of Reality, the fine folks behind Loadout, the game we introduced you to at E3 this year. The team here has been toiling away to get our game ready to play on PS4! These things do take time — there’s a lot of work in checking, adjusting, and cleaning the barrels on several billion weapons. The amount of gun wax we go through in a day — don’t get me started. Still, we’ve made fantastic progress, and Loadout will be making its PS4 console-exclusive debut very soon! Before you know it, the ridiculously explosive world of Loadout will be swarming with PS4 players! That’s the good news. The bad news is, you guys won’t be arriving alone. Take a look at THESE guys… It turns out when we announced that we were letting the PS4 community fight over shiny, precious rocks in Loadout, a group of intergalactic, Blutonium-hungry killers decided to show up and take all the rocks for themselves. They’re called the Kroad, and it turns out their way of solving Blutonium-related disputes is remarkably similar to our own, and involves the gratuitous application of needlessly overpowered weapons. So, yes, the Kroad are hazardous to your health. However, you’re also going to get the chance to work together and shoot their alien faces off! We’ve been working hard on the new co-op Campaign mode for Loadout, and that mode is coming to PS4 when the game launches! The new Campaign will be showing up on both PS4 and PC in the near future, and with it, we’re also releasing the Alien Wear outfit collection — a stylish yet comfortable line of apparel that’s sure to be all the rage among extraterrestrial extermination enthusiasts this season! You’ll be able to load up your Loadout character with these items, made from mostly-cleaned-off alien bits, when we fire up the game for PS4 in the near future. We’ve also got some PS4-exclusive items on the way that we can’t wait to tell you about. So, stay tuned, and we’ll tell you about it! View the full article

In the last few months, we’ve had the opportunity to show you some of the technology, the gameplay and the art behind our game. The team that came together to build The Order: 1886 was years in the making and we placed a tremendous amount of scrutiny to make sure we had the right people to bring our world to life. One of the areas we hadn’t quite explored at the onset of development was music. With all the effort we put into creating a compelling world, we knew we would be extremely demanding of how music would be composed for the game and especially who would be our partner in crime. We didn’t just want a score; we were seeking a ‘sound’ that would define our world. We wanted to be inspired by whoever would join us to achieve this. The question was where to start. The initial foray into our musical exploration came in the form of an unlikely meeting between two of the most accomplished composers in the gaming industry; Jason Graves (Dead Space, Tomb Raider) and Austin Wintory (Journey). After a crash course on the IP and a heavy download of years of material, we waited with bated breath for the first signs of musical life. Though short, their collaboration spawned “The Knights’ Theme†and was the spark that kindled the sound that would define our world. Jason harnessed that initial sound to score the music of The Order: 1886. It became the platform that launched him on a journey to deliver what is now the soundtrack of our daily lives. That same journey took his composition to Abbey Road where a truly one of kind ensemble of musicians and vocalists brought his work to life. The music he has composed has now taken as important a role in our game as any of the disciplines that have contributed to it thus far. It has inspired ideas and has come to define many of the moments in our story. This post is not only an introduction to our composer but also an acknowledgement and a thank you from everyone at RAD to Jason. I am proud to see his work featured in both the Premium and Collector’s Editions of the game. To give you more insight into the music process, it is my privilege to introduce our next video in our Behind-The-Scenes series, “Orchestrating The Order: 1886.” View the full article

Hey, Luc Bernard here again. So, to start off, last time you guys saw this game it was called Reaper — we have renamed it to Death Tales. Now onto the next piece of news: Death Tales is exclusive to PS Vita and PlayStation TV! Along with it being exclusive, Death Tales will also feature online and local multiplayer. Local multiplayer will only be available on Playstation TV, while the online will be limited to two-player co-op on PS Vita and PS TV. Death Tales will consist of two modes: Story: the story mode will be an open-world action RPG. You’ll be able to play local co-op in it, too. Tales: the tales mode will feature a hub town where you can get various quests from different characters and go perform them alone or online with strangers or friends. Each level will also be randomly generated so your experience will be different each time you play. Death Tales will be playable at the Playstation Experience at our booth — you’ll be able to find me there too, if I’m not passed out in a corner. I’ve never been to Vegas, and I heard there is lots of alcohol… Oh yes, and all of this of course will be free to play. An action RPG with online co-op for free on Vita? Come on, it doesn’t get better than that! View the full article

Hello again, PlayStation nation! It’s hard to believe that just a little over one year ago many of you embarked on a grand journey with one of PlayStation’s newest heroes, Knack. As a producer, it’s been my pleasure to hear so many heartwarming stories of fans playing together with their families and friends, searching for special relics and tackling the larger than life story within PS4‘s first exciting year. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support. To celebrate Knack’s 1st birthday, I’d like to share a little-known easter egg with all of you Knack fans, as well as tease a special opportunity for those of you who make your way to PlayStation Experience in December. Close observers of Knack’s stages might have recognized a few familiar shapes hidden within the walls and scenery. Take this screenshot from stage 1-2 for example: Notice the small Knack shape hidden on the left pillar? That’s what we call a “Hidden Knackâ€! Inspired by the “Hidden Mickeys†that keen observers can spot at Disney parks, the team at Japan Studio placed over 45 Hidden Knacks throughout the campaign of Knack! There are some pretty tricky ones hidden throughout the game – can you spot the Hidden Knacks in the screenshots below? Lastly, feast your eyes on these 3D-printed Knack statues, specially made by the Knack team at Japan Studio. To celebrate the 1-year Anniversary of Knack, three of these ultra rare statues (there are less than 10 in the world!) will be given away at the Community booth at PlayStation Experience in December! Details regarding this promotion are forthcoming, so please stay tuned! That’s it for now! I hope that all of you that have enjoyed Knack will continue to share it with new PS4 owners as we head toward the busy holiday season, and thank you once again for all of your wonderful support. Hello, I’m Jason Stark from Disparity Games. We’re a small studio that consists of me, my wife Nicole (we’re both AAA games industry veterans), and our 17-year-old daughter (not a AAA games industry veteran, but more talented than either of us). We live by the beach, work out of our kitchen, and make video games together. Our latest project is Ninja Pizza Girl — a game about bullying, emotional resilience, and pizza-delivering ninjas. It takes place in the not-too-distant future where urban congestion has gotten so bad the only way to get a pizza across town in thirty minutes or less is to use underpaid teenage ninjas. Ninja Pizza Girl is a fast-paced platformer about speed and flow, about big jumps and giant drops and yelling out “Woohoo!” It’s a game of freedom and fun for speed runners and platformer noobs alike. It’s also a game about Gemma, a sixteen-year-old girl trying to keep her dreams alive in face of the most merciless enemies known to any teenage girl — other teenagers. While most teenagers in Gemma’s world work for huge Pizza mega-corporations and wear officially sanctioned ninja uniforms, Gemma works for her Dad’s pizzeria and wears an outfit she made herself. Gemma starts the game an outsider, bringing all the issues that being an outsider entails. Despite its unusual premise, Ninja Pizza Girl’s story is based on the real-life experiences of our two eldest daughters going through high school. Being a teenager is tough. Being a teenager that’s slightly different is a nightmare. Ninja Pizza Girl is about a girl running straight into those differences at breakneck speed and trying to survive. This story runs deeply throughout the game design. Instead of tracking Gemma’s physical health, Ninja Pizza Girl tracks something far more relevant — her ability to deal with the crap life throws at her. Hurting yourself in the game is annoying, but something that Gemma can deal with. Getting hurt in front of a bunch of your fellow ninja however, is a serious issue. The rival ninja all stop to laugh at her. Shadows lengthen and colors drain from the world. On the other hand, when Gemma’s spent some time running fast and landing smooth jumps, she gets in the zone. The world blooms with vivid colour and she runs like the wind. And running fast is essential when there’s pizza to be delivered! Ninja Pizza Girl combines our love of old-school rhythm platformers with very real issues being faced by kids every day. Hopefully it will give people insight into a secret, shared world and the battles being fought all around us. We’re super excited to be bringing Ninja Pizza Girl to PS4. Expect to see it running over rooftops early 2015. View the full article

The PS3 version of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin will be bundled with all three DLC missions and also include the additional NPC, expanded story, in-game events as well as improved gameplay balance and online matchmaking functionality. Hello there, friends! Russell from Aksys Games here to announce that from November 25th, 2014 (that’s tomorrow) to December 8th, 2014, a Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- demo will be made available on PS4 for PlayStation Plus members! Get an exclusive sneak peek at this revolutionary fighting game and take control of main characters, Sol Badguy and Ky Kyske, in this extreme, flashy return of one of the most legendary franchises in the fighting game universe. So what exactly is in this preview you might ask? Well, I’m here to tell you! For starters, the Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- demo for PS4 will give you access to the Sol Badguy and Ky Kyske storylines in Arcade Mode. Whether you’re a seasoned Guilty Gear player, one that needs a quick refresher, or a newbie to the Guilty Gear world, you’ll be able to get a taste of what’s in store for the full version of the game! For the uninitiated, Sol Badguy is our hulking hero, a bounty hunter with an awesome weapon that moonlights as a lighter (no joke, and it’s crazy). Ky Kyske is his polar opposite, and uses his finesse and fancy moves (Lightning…LIGHT-N-ING!) to fight. Oh, he also happens to be a king… Also available is the very extensive Training Mode! Take control of Sol Badguy and learn everything from basic moves to advanced combos and skills. Prep yourself so that when you’re pre-ordered copy comes in (wink, wink), you’ll be ready to battle it out against your friends in Network Mode, or go through the many challenging modes the full game has to offer. What makes Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- truly revolutionary will be on full display in this demo. ARC System Works, developers of the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series of fighting games, mixed their trademark 2D animated styles and brought it into the world of 3D. Believe it or not, what you’re playing is a 3D “drawn” game made to look and feel 2D! What does that mean? Every time you do a special attack, get ready to go for a spin as the camera brings you into the heart of the action, giving you a sometimes 360 view! The Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- demo will be available starting tomorrow, November 25th to December 8th for PS4 Plus users, so be sure to download it and check it out! And the full experience of Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- will be available in retail stores nationwide and PlayStation Store on December 16th. The PS4 and PS3 physical copies come in two versions: a standard edition and a limited edition that includes an art book, CD, specialized box and keychain. View the full article

In the beginning, there was Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed on PS3 and Vita. And it was ridiculous (But in a good way!). Now… there will be Akiba’s Trip on PS4. And it will be even more ridiculous. In an even better way. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to find Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed in stores and on PlayStation Store in North America — just in time for Thanksgiving! The PS4 iteration of the game is less “old hat” and more “all that,” with lots of console exclusive features that might just make your holiday season a little crazier in that distinctive way only the best and weirdest Japanese anime and games can. If you don’t know what Akiba’s Trip is, it’s the story of a customizable dude named Nanashi (which means “no-name” in Japanese). He lives, works, and goes to school in Akihabara, the infamous “geek district” of Japan (which has been recreated as true-to-life as possible in the game). The district is renowned worldwide for its many shops and restaurants centered around anime, manga, video games, cosplay, maids and butlers, and anything else you can think of that falls within the realm of “otaku culture.” Long story short, Nanashi was lured into a shady back office by the promise of rare goods and transformed into a sort of energy vampire called a “Synthister,” and he must now seek out other Synthisters (male and female alike) with the help of a mysterious girl named Shizuku, as well as his friends in the “Akiba Freedom Fighters” and a handy-dandy vampire-identifying smartphone app… then beat them up with everyday objects and “expose” them to the harsh light of day. You know… a typical Tuesday afternoon for most of us. The PS4 version, of course, has all manner of graphical and performance upgrades, running at a solid 1080p without any framerate hiccups, and sporting a new lighting engine as well as enhanced character models. But this is PS4 we’re talking about, so none of that should be very surprising. The real cool features — the ones that make this the definitive version of Akiba’s Trip — are the livestream chat commands, the Visual Editor, and Toybox Mode. The first of these features is for those of you who like to play in front of an audience… because now, that audience can actually help you out in battle (or troll the ever-loving snot out of you!). From summoning your little sister to fight by your side, to boosting your battle gauge, to calling the cops on you or making the locals turn violent, to inserting themselves into the game with customized dialogue, the act of livestreaming has gone from a one-way road to a crazy street corner with no stop sign! The Visual Editor, then, lets you… erm… edit the game’s visuals. Like, virtually all of them. Want everything to have a greenish hue and super-thick red outlines? You can do that. Want to turn the motion blur dial to 11 and add so much pink fog that you can’t see two feet in front of you even while standing still? You can do that, too! One of my coworkers almost made himself sick by turning virtually every setting up to max, then attempting to move around while his avatar was set to a drunken walk cycle and wearing a pink bear suit. The effect definitely looked cool and psychedelic, but would not be recommended for anyone who just ate! My personal favorite feature, though, is Toybox Mode. This mode literally lets you begin the game with one of every single weapon and clothing item there is. You basically have access to anything and everything the game has to offer from the very start — from the moment you pop the disc into your system — and can just play around to your heart’s content. The only downside is, you can’t earn Trophies or unlock any New Game+ content this way. But I’d say that’s a fair tradeoff, wouldn’t you? There are a bunch of other things added too, including some incidental street conversations with each of the main female cast members (Assuming you know where and when to look for them!), all the DLC from the PS3 and Vita versions of the game, and PS4-exclusive clothing items to boot. All in all, if you’re new to this whole Akiba Synthister-busting thing and you own a PS4, this upcoming iteration of Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed is where you want to be. And if you’re an Akiba veteran, all the cool new features might just be a good enough reason to revisit this quirky underworld of dreams and naughty fun. Whichever way you play it, though, one thing’s for sure: this is one trip that’s definitely worth taking. November 25th. That’s tomorrow! Mark your calendars, people. It’s gonna be a hell of a ride. We will be compiling some of your wonderful creations together and placing them for everyone to see on LittleBigPlanet.com, our other social channels, and at PlayStation Experience, so be sure to keep an eye out to see if we feature your creation to the PlayStation community. To find out more about our challenges or to check out other people’s creations, you can head on over to LittleBigPlanet.com or follow us on Twitter @LittleBigPlanet! Sack-a-thon You may have already heard, but we’ll also be at the PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas on December 6-7, 2014. We’ll have a ton of community activities, pro-tips and tons more surprises. We even want to feature the community challenges from you – so be sure you tag (LBP3Crafted) on your contributions! Stay tuned for more news, but for now… happy creating! View the full article
