  1. Rescue the Princess! Fat Princess: Piece of Cake brings the beloved comic medieval battle royale to PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android today with a brand-new strategic match-three game, and it’s a free download! With over 55 levels across five unique lands inspired by the universe of Fat Princess, you’ll charge into battle with four different character classes and attempt to smash through the Blue army (because the Red army was always better). While the gameplay is simple and fast to pick-up, you’ll need to strategically upgrade your characters – the knights attack single enemies for high damage, a ranger whose gun can blast enemies in the front row, the demolition specialist with bombs to stun all enemies, and a quirky wizard with a staff to rival Gandalf’s to heal your troops. While the layers of gameplay strategy go far deeper, if you’re wondering where the centerpiece is, fear not! Feed cake to the princess by matching special tiles to unleash her devastating slam attack, trigger massive combos, and of course, save the kingdom. Fat Princess: Piece of Cake is a free-to-play game set in an incredible universe and can be played without making in-app purchases, however some in-game items such as power-ups and character upgrades can be acquired through in-app purchases. It is near and dear to our heart and a step toward extending the Fat Princess universe to create a brand new experience for everyone. With our recent announcement of Fat Princess Adventures, a new action packed four-player co-op experience, now is a great time for PlayStation fans old and new to get to know our beloved Fat Princess. So, enjoy a slice of Fat Princess: Piece of Cake, it’s on us. Follow us on Twitter at @SonySantaMonica View the full article

  3. Hello PS Vita players! We’re happy to announce that today we are launching Atelier Ayesha Plus ~The Alchemist of Dusk~ on PS Vita via PlayStation Store. If you’re not familiar with the Atelier game series, it’s a RPG developed by one of our development teams, GUST, in Japan. Unlike the previous titles in the Atelier series, the setting for Atelier Ayesha Plus — the Dusk World — is on the verge of ruin, the glory of their civilization based on alchemy all but lost. Additionally, Hidari’s role as illustrator serves to further deepen the presentation of the Dusk World. Atelier Ayesha Plus tells the tale of a girl, Ayesha Altugle, who after the death of her grandfather and the disappearance of her younger sister Nio, now lives alone blending healing cures to sell in her workshop. Upon a vision of Nio appearing near her empty grave, Ayesha is convinced Nio is still alive and begins her search to save her sister. This enhanced PS Vita version will bring new features including dual audio (English and Japanese voices), new bosses, new costumes, a Hard mode, and the Album missions which unlock exclusive costumes and gameplay features and the ability to change party members at any time. Atelier Ayesha Plus will be available on PS Store today and if you download it from January 13th to February 10th, you’ll receive Bonus costumes as a bundle. 9. You might’ve heard some big news from Capcom at our first ever PlayStation Experience fan expo. No, not that news. This: Resident Evil Revelations 2 is coming to PS Vita, and Ultra Street Fighter IV is coming to PS4, thanks to a double partnership between Capcom and SCEA’s Third Party Production. What’s more, Third Party Production is producing and publishing both titles for those platforms. Resident Evil Revelations 2 is the latest, spine-chilling chapter in the Resident Evil franchise. It unfolds in four dramatic episodes with cliffhanger moments that will have you wanting to play more. Revelations 2 follows fan favorite Claire Redfield and her partner Moira Burton as they struggle to survive the horrors that await them on a mysterious island facility. With his own daughter and comrade in peril, Barry Burton takes fate into his own hands and embarks on a rescue mission to the island to save them both. It’s a story full of twists that will have players guessing the next steps at every turn. Resident Evil Revelations 2 begins rolling out on PS4 and PS3 on February 17th, 2015, and will also be coming to PS Vita in the Spring. Pre-Order: PS3 Complete Season Pre-Order: PS3 Retail Disc Pre-Order: PS4 Complete Season Pre-Order: PS4 Retail Disc The Street Fighter series evolves to a whole new level with Ultra Street Fighter IV for PS4, the first Street Fighter title to debut on next-gen consoles anywhere. For those of you who haven’t played the original on PS3, the game boasts five new characters and six new stages for even more fighting mayhem. The PS4 version will also include all costume DLC released up to date, including both the recently released Vacation and Wild costumes, as well as Omega Mode; it’s the ultimate version of Ultra Street Fighter IV, and it’s only on PS4! Now, as I announced at PlayStation Experience, both of these titles will come out in spring of 2015. I cannot wait to share more information with you all on these great games closer to launch. Remember to keep tweeting your requests for games you’d like to see on PlayStation platforms (#BuildingTheList), and keep your eye on the blog for more information. View the full article
  10. First, a thank you. With nearly 400,000 user votes submitted, this year’s PlayStation.Blog Game of the Year Awards was far and away our biggest and most active yet. Thanks for speaking your mind and supporting your favorite games of 2014. But enough talk. Read on for the full list of winners and runners-up, plus some Editors’ Choice picks from some of your friends here at PlayStation. See you next year! Best PS4 Game A tight race, with Dragon Age Inquisition taking an early lead in community voting until Bungie’s sci-fi shooter Destiny surged ahead for the coveted Platinum spot. Honorable mentions go to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which both saw muscular support. DestinyDragon Age InquisitioninFAMOUS Second SonFar Cry 4Editors’ Choice PicksAlien: IsolationSid Shuman, US PlayStation.Blog Creative Assembly clearly did their survival-horror homework, proving they could craft a lean, terrifying machine in the grand tradition of System Shock 2. A 2014 standout… if you’ve got the nerves for it. DestinyJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog The ambition behind Bungie’s space-faring epic is matched only by the dev team’s willingness to tweak and shape their universe based on the feedback of its most passionate players. Four months later, I’m still raiding every Tuesday with pals from around the world. inFAMOUS Second SonRyan Clements, US PlayStation.Blog The combat in Second Son felt fantastic, but you could have just as much fun traversing the world using Delsin’s abilities and leaping from eye-watering heights. Incredible experience from start to finish. HohokumNick Suttner, PlayStation Developer Relations Hohokum hits on the curiosity that lies at the heart of all games, but brilliantly marches it front and center in a technicolor, multi-instrumentalist dream. Hoon around a while, get lost in a labyrinth of child-like discovery and joy, and feel like a grownup all over again with an impossibly cool soundtrack. Far Cry 4Fred Dutton, EU PlayStation.Blog Like going on the most messed-up holiday imaginable, for my money Far Cry 4 was the most fun you could have in a videogame in 2014, and I adored every insane, eagle-punching minute of it. Bring on that yeti DLC. Don’t Starve: Console EditionDan “Shoe†Hsu, PlayStation Developer Relations You know you’re dealing with excellent game design when you’re as frightened of hunger pangs as you are the mysterious creeps crawling all over the alien landscapes of survival game Don’t Starve. I couldn’t get enough of the unique art style, deep crafting, and constant tension — just writing this makes me want to go back for more. Best PS3 Game RPGs dominated voting in the PS3 category, with Dark Souls II in a close dogfight with South Park: The Stick of Truth for the Platinum. Honorable mentions go to FIFA 15 and The Walking Dead: Season Two. Dark Souls IISouth Park: The Stick of TruthDestinyFar Cry 4Editors’ Choice PicksSouth Park: The Stick of TruthSid Shuman, US PlayStation.Blog Fulfilled an impossible mission by faithfully complementing the legendary show while carving out an appealing identity all its own. One of the most enjoyable and subversive games I played this year on any platform. Dark Souls IIJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog My entry point to From’s infamously unforgiving Souls series, Dark Souls II instills a persevering sense of dread and anxiety, but somehow refused to let me walk away until I conquered it. Truly one of the most rewarding gaming experiences of the year. Bring on Bloodborne. SportsfriendsNick Suttner, PlayStation Developer Relations While they’re all wildly different, it’s easy to find commonality in the inspired design and super-polished/hilarious presentation of the four (or is it six?) local multiplayer games included. Sportsfriends is the most fun you can have with four friends and a PS3, this year or any other. LuftrausersDan “Shoe†Hsu, PlayStation Developer Relations I love the relentless, 360-degree arcade-shooting action that usually ends sooner than I would like. (This game is tough!) But Luftrausers lets you get right back into the fray with new ship parts that dramatically change how you can take down the next round of enemies. Tons of fun for such a small package. Best PS Vita Game Heated voting in the PS Vita category ultimate saw Ubisoft Montreal’s platformer-RPG Child of Light score the Platinum, edging out early favorites Freedom Wars and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for top honors. Honorable mentions go to Velocity 2X, MLB 14 The Show, and Fez. Child of LightThe Binding of Isaac: RebirthFreedom WarsSword Art Online: Hollow FragmentEditors’ Choice PicksThe Binding of Isaac: RebirthSid Shuman, US PlayStation.Blog The lure of this addictive dungeon crawler grows stronger and stronger after repeated playthroughs, reminding us that a masterfully crafted game doesn’t need state-of-the-art production values to be a knockout. HohokumJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog A magical, ethereal experience, Hohokum feels like a well-deserved vacation. Honeyslug’s joyful controls act as the glue (or is that guano?) that marry Ghostly’s sublime soundtrack to Dick Hogg’s bizarre, beautiful world. Freedom WarsRyan Clements, US PlayStation.Blog Imprisoned and stripped of any semblance of power, players in Freedom Wars face a sense of morbid wonder at every misstep. It makes progressing through this stylized adventure all the more rewarding. LuftrausersNick Suttner, PlayStation Developer Relations Like the great Spelunky before it, Luftrausers feels like one of the games Vita was built for: teeth-grittingly tense dogfighting through the lens of Vlambeer’s screen-rattling arcade mastery. This is where bullet hell goes when it dies. OlliOlliFred Dutton, EU PlayStation.Blog This one came out of nowhere last January, heralding the arrival of a major new talent in developer Roll7. Expect their outrageous follow-up, Not a Hero, to be in with a good shot of taking this category next year too. Best Digital Release In the digital category, Sucker Punch scored a decisive victory for the standalone follow-up to inFAMOUS Second Son, though competition raged amongst the other finalists. Honorable mentions go to The Walking Dead: Season Two, The Wolf Among Us, and Transistor. inFAMOUS First LightThe Walking Dead S2OutlastThe Binding of Isaac: RebirthEditors’ Choice PicksSecret PonchosSid Shuman, US PlayStation.Blog A fresh twist on PvP thanks to tight gunplay, appealing characters, and seductive art direction. 2v2 Domination is one of the most compulsively competitive games I’ve played in years. A clear standout for the competitive crowd. TransistorJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog I can’t think of a more well-rounded, complementary crew than the team at Supergiant. Darren’s melancholy soundtrack pairs perfectly with Jen’s breathtaking art, and it’s held together by drum-tight, play-how-you-want combat — and Logan’s velvety (but sometimes unsettling) narration. TowerFall AscensionRyan Clements, US PlayStation.Blog TowerFall can build or break relationships. A superb multiplayer experience with supreme confidence in its haunting style. The wide range of options and modifiers keeps matches fresh and crisp. The SwapperNick Suttner, PlayStation Developer Relations Since I can’t sanely choose between the mighty Sportsfriends/TowerFall/Nidhogg PS4 triumvirate, I’ll take this opportunity to show some love to The Swapper, one of the moodiest, smartest, most subversive puzzle games I’ve ever played. Limbo by way of Moon. Loombo. Rogue LegacyFred Dutton, EU PlayStation.Blog I played Cellar Door Games’ roguelike platformer more than any other title in 2014 – and it wasn’t even close. Over and over I plummeted its bewitching depths – and New Game+++++++ was every bit as fun as the first playthrough. Sequel please. Best PS Plus Game BioShock Infinite proved to be the definitive favorite for PlayStation Plus members in 2014, though PS4 fighter Injustice mustered a commanding second-place showing. Honorable mentions go to The Binding of Isaac, Outlast, and Dragon’s Crown. BioShock InfiniteInjustice: Gods Among Us UltimateBatman: Arkham CityTomb RaiderEditors’ Choice PicksOutlastSid Shuman, US PlayStation.Blog A great year for PS Plus offerings made this my toughest category. Ultimately, I have to hand it to Outlast — it’s the only survival horror game I’ve ever had to stop playing out of sheer heart-stopping fright. The Binding of Isaac: RebirthJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog “Sure, I’ll give it a shot,†I uttered as I descended into Edmund McMillen’s dark, demented (but confusingly cute) basement for the first time. Weeks later, I’m not quite sure I’m actually back in the real world yet. Send help. BioShock InfiniteRyan Clements, US PlayStation.Blog The breathless jumps between rails, the exquisite attention to detail, the razor-sharp gunplay; it’s impossible to forget the best moments of BioShock Infinite, and it made for one hell of a Plus game. Velocity 2XFred Dutton, EU PlayStation.Blog It was great to see some big digital titles debut on PS Plus in 2014, and Futurlab’s frantic shmup/speed-run/platformer hybrid was a real high water mark. Few other games in 2014 were quite so elegant, sticky and flab-free. Don’t Starve: Console EditionDan “Shoe†Hsu, PlayStation Developer Relations You did download this when it was free for PS Plus subscribers, didn’t you? DIDN’T YOU?? If not, don’t fret. It’s cheap and so worth your money and time. Most Anticipated 2015 Easily the most active poll in this year’s awards. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End dominated community voting early. Honorable mentions go to Bloodborne and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which mustered impressive showings. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s EndBatman: Arkham KnightPersona 5Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom PainEditors’ Choice PicksBatman: Arkham KnightJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog The Dark Knight makes his PS4 debut this year, and he’s never looked better. Featuring seamless transitions between gameplay and cinematics, a new villain created alongside DC Comics, and the freakin’ Batmobile, Arkham Knight promises to be one of 2015’s showcase titles. The Witcher 3: Wild HuntRyan Clements, US PlayStation.Blog The team at CD Projekt Red has a near-unnatural passion for fantasy. There’s no other explanation for Witcher 3’s massive open world, robust lore, gritty combat, and realism. N++Nick Suttner, PlayStation Developer Relations Such a tough choice, but I have to give it to Metanet – their deviously difficult action-platformer N++ just gets better every time they give me a tease of it, and the multiplayer race mode is the best thing since sliced bread that chases you like a missile controlled by one of your friends. BloodborneFred Dutton, EU PlayStation.Blog Hidetaka Miyazaki could release a domestic budgeting app and I’d be first in line. EvolveDan “Shoe†Hsu, PlayStation Developer Relations Oh man, this was so tough to pick, but based on the few matches I played over E3 2014, I’d say Evolve will end up being my most-played game of 2015. The asymmetric four-on-one-big-monster gameplay is full of fist-pumping thrills. I can’t wait. Studio of the Year Fans turned out in droves to support their favorite studios, with Naughty Dog and Rockstar North duking it out for the Platinum spot. Honorable mentions went to Monolith Productions, From Software, and Ubisoft Montreal. Naughty DogRockstar NorthBungieBiowareEditors’ Choice PicksMonolith ProductionsSid Shuman, US PlayStation.Blog The superior Shadow of Mordor sees this veteran Kirkland-based studio reaching into exciting new terrain. The Nemesis system alone is the most satisfying gameplay innovation I’ve experienced this year. Square EnixJustin Massongill, US PlayStation.Blog I could expound on the ways Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a triumph in MMO design, but instead I’ll praise the team behind it for continually listening to (and communicating with) their fans, constantly adding new content, and most importantly: visibly loving every moment of it. BungieRyan Clements, US PlayStation.Blog Leave it to such a legendary crew to pull together and build an awe-inspiring universe that will undoubtedly be home to many adventures for years to come. Bravo to everyone involved. BlitWorksNick Suttner, PlayStation Developer Relations Yay, a loophole to work Spelunky into this year’s awards! But seriously, BlitWorks did an incredible job porting it to PS4, as well as Fez, Don’t Starve, and OlliOlli to extra PS platforms. Basically, they’re the reason why many of the raddest digital games play best on PlayStation. Respect! FromSoftwareFred Dutton, EU PlayStation.Blog Much was made of how Dark Souls II was made by the studio’s ‘B team’ while Miyazaki and co readied Bloodborne. If that’s any indicator of the strength and depth of its creative team, I’m chalking them up as game dev’s Pixar equivalent… albeit with added dread, horror and relentless misery. 12. Hello, PlayStation.Blog! Did you have a good Christmas? We did. We slept and slept so we could fully recover from working up to PlayStation Experience, and now we almost feel back to normal. And ready for 2015! So let’s kick it off. We’re excited to announce that Joe Danger 2: The Movie for PS Vita will be released in North America on January 13th. In Joe Danger 2 for Vita, we have some special guest appearances, courtesy of our friends and neighbours Media Molecule. From the lovely Tearaway we’ve got Atoi and Iota, and from LittleBigPlanet we’ve got Sackboy. They join all nine of the mercs from Team Fortress 2 and Steve from Minecraft. These were part of the PC version, from where we’ve also brought across a special Minecraft stage for Movie Maker, Joe Danger 2’s level editing mode. Weirdly, all this actually makes Joe Danger 2 for Vita the biggest-ever version of the game! Hours and hours of play await across 85 levels, including 15 from the Undead Movie Pack, which comes included in the Downloadable Tours section — plus a total of 35 playable characters. And like JD on Vita, which we released back in September, Joe Danger 2 runs at a super-smooth 60 frames per second, and features ghost downloads so you always have something to race against, online leaderboards, and new Vita-tuned controls. Plus, you can create new levels in Movie Maker mode using touchscreen controls, and of course there’s a set of Trophies to earn. Want to take a look at Joe Danger 2? Here’s our original trailer! 16. You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future. You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek. We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed. Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches. PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles: There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play. Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service. View the full article

  19. It’s been the most amazing year of my life. In January 2014, Axiom Verge was a hobby project I’d been working on nights and weekends for almost four years. By April it was picked up by the PlayStation Pub Fund, then in June it won best of E3 awards, and in September Nintendo’s former indie boss came on to personally make sure it would be a success. Honestly that’s quite a lot for a single person to process, so, I’ll just begin by saying THANK YOU everyone! Not wanting to limit my holiday card to any particular faith or culture, I decided to go with the “Looming Biomechanoid Construct†theme over Santa hats or tree ornaments. She knows when you are sleeping, awake, or trying to escape, so be good, for goodness sake! View the full article

  21. Happy Holidays from Champaign, Illinois! Thanks for the overwhelming support we’ve received this year from our loyal community and PlayStation fans around the world. We’ve had a helluva (terrible joke #1) time this year! Ever since we first revealed Saints Row: Gat out of Hell at PAX Prime, we’ve been humbled by the reception and feedback that it’s received at events around the country and world. The team here at Volition brings a passion full of hellfire (#2) to everything we touch, and we hope that you folks love the humor and gameplay as much as we’ve loved creating it. Counting down to 2015, our teams are hard at work putting the final polish on Saints Row: Gat out of Hell. This marks the 9th year of the Saints Row franchise and the first time that we’re bringing any of the Third Street Saints to PS4. I wouldn’t be doing my saintly duty (#3), if I didn’t tell you to mark your calendars for when you can pick can pick up Saints Row IV: Re-Elected and Gat out of Hell on January 20th, 2015. This New Year, don your best purple and get ready to shoot, sing, stab, and nut-kick your way through Hell! View the full article
  22. Howdy! This is Pringo Dingo Games! We’d love to present to you our first game, Paparazzi! Paparazzi is a two-player local multiplayer game where one person plays as the celebrity, and the other plays as their enemy, the paparazzi. It’s a frantic game of cat-and-mouse with a humorous twist! The more photos the paparazzi takes of the celebrity, the more money they get and the less dignity the celebrity has. To gain dignity, the celebrity must collect adoring fans and avoid the camera shots of the paparazzi. We initially made the game for a game jam centered with the theme of a Matthew McConaughey quote: “Cameras aren’t guns. They can’t really hurt you.†Pringo Dingo Games is a three person studio, and we are incredibly excited about how far we’ve brought the game since that jam. Paparazzi will be a downloadable game available through PlayStation Store February 2015 for PS4! Only $4.99! Woo! DISCLAIMER: All celebrity characters in the game are entirely fictional. Any likeness to a real celebrity is unintentional. Except Bear on a Trike. She is very real. View the full article
  23. Happy holidays, everyone! I know a lot of you may be new PS4 owners, so I wanted to welcome you to the PlayStation Nation and offer up a little not-so-secret pro tip to help you out while you’re gaming: Docs for PlayStation. If you’re like me, you don’t like having to search through a paper instruction manual or scour the internet to find game info and the controller guide for your new game. With Docs for PlayStation, you’ve got a one-stop destination where you can access what you need right from your console, smartphone, tablet, or PC. Docs launched alongside PS4 last November and it has replaced printed manuals for first-party PlayStation titles, as well as select third-party games. You might have used Docs and not even realized it — you can find the digital manuals on PS4 in a game’s Live Tile (press down when you have highlighted a game on PS4’s Dynamic Menu). Once you’re in, you’ll find guides, tutorials, detailed maps, the latest info on DLC or just a quick controller reference guide. And if you’re playing and don’t want to pause your game, just go to Docs for PlayStation on your smartphone, tablet, or computer via a web browser, and you’ll find the same content optimized for whichever device you’re using.
