LOL thanks guys and gal.. at least you all made me laugh a bit..

a) my kid is 15 he got a 1480 on his SAT a month ago.. he is in accelerated learning and is a grade ahead in school. YOU would think he would be smarter than this?

B) He is in sports, Track, football, baseball and Martial arts ( he got his 2nd deg. Black belt last summer) you would think he wouldn’t have time to text this much?

c) How the hell do you even text that many times.. he can’t use a cell at school he sleeps like ten hours a night.. that only leaves four or five hours a day at this many that’s a text every five minutes of every available hour of every day!!! How the hell??

I do plan on calling sprint.. when I signed up with them I stressed the point that I wanted a plan that assured me of a consistent bill I.e. the same every month with no surprises.. they guaranteed me this.. first month I had two $19.99 charges on my bill for some sort of internet services which I didn’t sign up for.. I called them and they said anybody can sign me up for services by using my cell number?? What!! So without my consent and without my knowledge someone can just start charging me for a service I don’t want and don’t even know I have? Their answer was yes? I had them disable ALL internet and told them their security is pathetic! NOW this.. after I told them that I wanted to be assured that anything I can’t control. (i.e. I can’t control how many times someone else text’s one of my lines) sprint would protect me.. well obviously they missed the point or else they don’t give a shit! My anger has turned from my son to Sprint and yes I will be calling them. Regardless of the outcome I plan on making this a lesson he won’t forget.

And if it was pot in his room instead of this at the least I could sell the pot or use it myself and get some value out of it!!

Ha ha!

It is very easy to text and not realize how many times you are texting back and forth, especially when you are having an actual conversation with someone. He sounds like a great kid. You should be very proud of him if this is the only kind of "trouble" he ever gets in to.

I guess I'm just an old fart and behind in times on this text stuff.. gee I thought a phone was for calling people or getting calls.. but I guess its now a email device, internet device, weather reporter, sports updater, calender, planner, calculator, stop watch, gameboy, message center and chat text device. JUST give me a DAMN phone!! I don't need your other crap!! LOL.

Its like all these other companies, ,the phone company wants to be my internet provider and my cable tv provider and a list of other things.. the cable company wants to be my phone provider and IP, my IP wants to be my TV and phone provider!!! They all want you to sign contracts you have to pay to get out of.. they all hide a bunch of extras in the fine print and they all have a ton of ways to sneak EXTRA charges into your bill with NO security for you whatsoever. I believe the phone company sells private number list to telemarketers!! How is it you pay for a private number, you pay for blocking, you sign up to the National do not call list and then you get a phone call at 11:30pm from an unlisted number that wants you to take a survey?

I'm going to open my window and shout!! "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more!!! " ;)

LOL. NIce call Friday.

Goat, the few times I had to go to the school to pick up my boy, I learned where all the texting happens. As soon as the bells ring for passing period, every damn kid is walking the halls looking down texting like mad.

Thanks for all the suggestions and the “I feel your pain†comments… I guess I owe you guys the final summary on how my Sprint Cus. Serv. Call went…

For Lucifer thanks but, most cell phone companies require a credit card on file or at the least a bank account and land line phone number. i.e. a 15 year old can’t sign up for a cell plan. There are however those pay as you go cell companies..

Nacku, yeah like I said I’m behind on the current fad.. the boy was just doing what every other teenager these days is doing.. Made me laugh to read Rockman’s comment about the kids text’n each other in his car when they were literally right next to one another.. that sums up just how ridiculous it is.

For Hipchick and others on the whip out the belt on his butt.. LOL yeah I say that... but of course we all know I would never do that.. I haven’t used that kind of punishment since he was six years old when he knocked his little sister silly over some damn pok-e-man card.. even then I barely whipped him making sure the sound was worst than the belt.. and hell it hurt me more than it hurt him since it brought back bad memories of my old man when I was a kid.. (what’s with that anyway back in my day the old man would have kicked my ass for something like this and not thought twice about doing it.. hell the neighbors would have volunteered to hold me down.. these days if you dare whip you kid you’re a bad parent?) Anyway back on point..

For aZy, if you work for sprint than kudos to you bro, I called and the first person was offering some sort of $50 credit, I refused to accept that meager offering.. I got her supervisor and then got her supervisors supervisor.. LOL.. you were right it took over an hour but in the end.. I now have unlimited text messaging (ten bucks more a month) but they credited $250 to the bill which reduced the extra charge by about ¾, not bad and a fair compromise . They are also going to send me a new phone since I bitched about my battery life on my current one (just for the hell of it since I was in a bitching mood LMAO!) it wasn’t until I told them “just cancel everything I’ll pay the $275 cancellation fee (cheaper then the bill) you’re Fired†that I got some results. LOL. When they figured out I was willing to cancel them over it they must have figured I had a point?? Also aZy you were right again, they were much more willing to work out a deal once I agreed to add unlimited text to my plan.

So ok lesson learned.. a bonus was a link to their online site with a account password which allows me to track usage instantly and know exactly how much each phone is using… The boy gets his phone back now with unlimited text, I’m not telling him about the reduction.. at least for a bit.. make him sweat it out.. he will still be working off the extra (now reduced) charge and I’ll wait till he earns enough to pay it before letting him off the hook for the rest. A big thanks to the UF community.. it was great to get opinions from fellow parents as well as some views from the younger members who explained text’n is the fad of the day for them. I’m usually the one offering advice in these long goat post, I feel like the community just paid me back a little by offering theirs. Mad/luv from Goat.

Peace yo,

Oh yea..

Think about it..

2800 texts / 31 days= 90 texts a day

You are counted for incoming and outgoing...

So you really have 45 texts you sent a day..

45 / 24 hrs = 1.5

so if you send on average 2 texts an hour its very easy to have 2800...

That's just to much right there

lol

When they figured out I was willing to cancel them over it they must have figured I had a point?

Kind of. In truth you had a valid point the whole time, and they knew it. But so many people are willing to just roll over and pay the bill, that unless they know you’re willing to give someone else your hard earned money, they won’t budge if they don’t have to. It’s understandable, very easy to manipulate. Good work!

So the true lesson here is....

If you bitch about something long enough.... Sooner or later you will get your way. ;)

To me Sprint doesn't owe you anything. It wasn't them that went over there limits. They gave you a plan that they thought you would be good with. Who would have guessed that your kid would use 1000 more text then what you had?!?

But Good job non the less. ;D

I should switch to sprint if they budge, tmobile, I was polite at first but then they gave me an attitude then I began to cursed and argued and said I would cancel and they told me go right ahead and transferred me to a specialist to cancel the phone. It would have costed 800.00 dollars in total I even stated I would extend my contract another year but they didn't care. I guess its who you get to help you that matters. I worked it down to 400.00 rather than 574.00 and didn't have to pay next months phone bill. when I first got the bill I called then they told me to call back when the bill is do then told me I have 2 weeks to pay it. I should have canceled now that I think of it but then I would have to get another service provider and start a new contract and pay additional fees in the beginning, I was looking at close to 1,000 estimation. if I would have cancelled and gone to another service provider. Lesson learned. :-\

You're basically right prime, although "bitching" might not be the perfect word for it.

There are certain times where a company has you stuck paying them money... electric company, gas company, etc.

But for the other extraneous/optional services... why NOT use the advantage of choice against companies who would stick it to you if they could? In the end, the companies get their money (Goat will be paying more per month for unlimited texts a boon for Sprint, but its a service he apparently needs, so it works out for him)

Although Goat's convo (from what I read) got a little heated... the talks that saved me all the dough I posted earlier never required me to raise my voice. I was firm and direct, and still got my point across.

Anger actually can hinder the process. You'll usually get farther with firm kindness, as the people answering the phones (non-managers especially) have little to no interest in the company for whom they are working. They'd just as soon help a sincere customer as be "by the book" to please their annoying manager or team lead.

Well my two points were, when I signed up I stressed the importance that my bill be relatively the same each month and that I wouldn't get any *SURPRISE bills.. I also stressed that anything I couldn't control.. i.e. I can't control how many times someone else text messages my kid that sprint would protect me.

Lastly I'm smarter than the average bear.. when I started getting a bit piss'd I handed the phone to my wife..(ex-customer service rep herself.. in other words she "talks the talk") she took it from there and worked it all out.. I'm more of the "cancel it who gives a crap.. oh you want money? get in line!" kind of guy. LOL. thank god my wife has the sweetest phone voice you've ever heard.. hey wait a sec!... I just got an idea!! Phone sex! yeah that's the ticket!! better yet - Phone textsex.. whoooeee I can see the money just rolling in!! 8)
