It’s been a long time since we’ve brought you any news on Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, but I’m excited to announce that this unique JRPG will be available as a digital download on PS Vita via PlayStation Store for $19.99 starting on March 3rd! So what does Oreshika bring to fans of the genre? Well, first of all there’s the striking graphic style. Set in ancient Japan, the game art delivers a rich world inspired by traditional brush paintings of the Heian era. You’ll be exploring a beautiful, watercolor world filled with weird and wonderful creatures based on Japanese mythology. Oh, and we’ve kept the fantastic Japanese voiceover which fits in with the atmosphere perfectly. The gameplay is quite unique, too. In Oreshika, you’ll take control of a clan whose bloodlines have been struck with two terrible curses — a Curse of Ephemerality, and a Curse of Broken Lineage. The Curse of Ephemerality means that your clan members age rapidly with a maximum lifespan of around 2 years. As you explore labyrinths, defeat demons, and find treasures, the clock of in-game time is always ticking so it’s important to plan your moves strategically. In Oreshika, no matter how skilled you are in battle or how strong your equipment is, your characters will face death and so it’s your job to make sure your clan’s family tree grows new members to step up to the ranks. But therein lies the catch as the Curse of Broken Lineage means that your clan members can no longer procreate… Luckily you can turn to the gods for help. By performing the Rite of Divine Union with a god, a new clan member will be created. It’s important to choose carefully which gods you perform the Rite with as the genetic makeup will be a combination of the ‘parent’ clan member and the chosen god which affects stats as well as appearance. And with well over 100 gods to meet in game, there are a lot of deities to discover! And while we’re on the topic of gods, I should mention that for a period of two weeks from launch, you’ll receive the gods Kiri no Mashū and Tonkararin as a special bonus when you purchase the game! So make sure you don’t miss out on this chance to bag these two rare gods that can’t otherwise be unlocked through gameplay. View the full article

The knights of The Order are extraordinary warriors, but it’s important to remember they are still human. They tire, they feel pain, but they still stand up and persevere. We hope this trailer captures a little bit of that and sets the stage for your next amazing PlayStation adventure. Thank you so much for your support! View the full article

As you know, Killing Floor 2 is heading to PS4 later this year. It’s a brutal, fast-paced, co-op FPS that puts players into deadly battles with genetically engineered bioweapons using a host of wicked killing tools. Following our announcement at PlayStation Experience, we wanted to show a wider view of the game’s universe in the form of a short movie, which you can watch above. We thought it would be a cool project and a great opportunity to tell more story in the run-up to the launch of Killing Floor 2 this year on PS4. For those not familiar with the Killing Floor back-story, the original game began in the UK with players being thrust into the midst of an outbreak caused by genetically engineered creatures escaping from Horzine facilities. By the time of Killing Floor 2, the UK has been overrun and very few have escaped alive. After a brief respite, more outbreaks have launched in mainland Europe — such as “Burning Paris†– and the whole mass slaughter has kicked into a higher gear. When we started working on the script for what would become Killing Floor: Uncovered, we decided to set the scene a few years before the start of the first Killing Floor game. Besides being a fun little horror film unto itself, Killing Floor: Uncovered sports a number of tie-ins to Killing Floor 2, both obvious and subtle. For example, the lab you see in the video is a fore-runner of the much more high-tech Biotics Lab that will be seen in the game. After the events you’ll see in Uncovered clearly Horzine needed to move its facilities elsewhere. The events in Uncovered are just a small outbreak (just a few victims, none of them very innocent), contained after the event by Horzine’s internal security services and duly cleaned up. The corpses removed, survivors paid off, and other evidence duly expunged. It would be nice to think that Horzine had learned the lesson from the security footage and stopped making evil creatures. All they did was move the lab elsewhere and make it much harder to break in. Which was unfortunate, as they clearly hadn’t thought to prevent the Zeds breaking OUT and rampaging all over the UK, which is what triggered the events of Killing Floor 1. A massive outbreak of specimens which the players in the first game were attempting to contain — unsuccessfully, as it turned out — with the country largely devastated. And it didn’t help that they set up multiple facilities, improving on them each time. In the new version in Killing Floor 2 you’ll be able to see much more of how the Zeds are made. “Grown,†in fact. They are, after all, “genetic specimens,†not zombies, created out of a plan for genetically-engineered and cloned super-soldiers. Except everyone just calls them “Zeds.†The new Biotics Lab will show you how the base Zed (the Clot) is grown, fed, and processed, fun details of their anatomy and experimentation. The more dangerous specimens, with the more esoteric abilities such as wall-climbing and stealth tech are created and weaponized elsewhere. Luckily for humanity, even though the cloning may have gone off in a bad direction, at least that weaponizing had only got as far as bladed weapons, chainsaws, and flamethrowers. At least players won’t have to face Zeds with guns. Actually you will, but not until Boss waves… But it all starts with the technology lurking in Uncovered. Simple cloning of simple specimens, even though they are violent and aggressive enough to rip humans apart. So, look for familiar content in Uncovered that you will see run through the existing Killing Floor, through to Killing Floor 2. The early Clot specimens obviously. And look for some of your favorite firearms: the classic British infantry weapon in the hands of the Horzine security troopers, for example, that will feature in Killing Floor 2. And that starting weapon you played with in Wave 1 of Killing Floor 1, that returns in the sequel — check the first weapon picked up in Uncovered. So, in the movie fans will learn a bit more about Horzine Biotech and some of their earlier experimentation. Fans will also meet the representatives of a small activist group, seeking evidence of corporate evil by infiltrating a secret Horzine lab. How does the saying go? “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.†Oh, how very true in this case! Special thanks to the Type A/B guys for helping shoot the film, and to the talents of actor/stuntman Jackamo Harvey as our star creature. Jackamo is no stranger to portraying Zeds in the Killing Floor universe as he was our mo-cap actor for all the creatures in Killing Floor 2. Take a look at our first Dev Diary for the game (The Zeds) and you’ll see what we mean! We hope that you enjoy Killing Floor: Uncovered as much as we do, and that it gives you a sense of the type of crazed action we’re aiming to deliver with the full launch of Killing Floor 2 on PS4 this year! By popular request, Starwhal is flopping onto your couch this month! Starwhal has enthralled crowds at events like Indiecade, E3 and EVO, but now, for the first time ever, it’s hitting a major game console. Both PS4 and PS3 will see local coÂ-op mayhem when Starwhal makes its console debut on February 24th in North America. Originally a 48Âhour game jam game, Starwhal took the world by storm in early 2013. The core of the game is competitive matches which see narwhals dueling in a retro vision of deep space. Poke or be poked as you wiggle your way towards, around and onto opponents. Dodge foes’ treacherous tusks while safeguarding your heart and attacking theirs. The silliness can get serious, but once the screaming subsides, hysterical laughter is a common side effect. Starwhal has received intergalactic praise from both fans and critics. But to take it up a notch, Breakfall has been hard at work expanding the game with a fully Âloaded feature set. Crazy new modes, intense new arenas, sweet new visual effects, a massive, extended, thumping soundtrack and over 9,000 costume combinations have all been thrown into the mix as you duke it out with four friends or AI enemies. And if you’re looking to hone your Starwhal skills on your own, you can try out our 32 challenge courses that let you earn Trophies while you dominate global leaderboards. Physics and performance have been optimized to give you the best possible console experience, so you’ll feel every blubbery impact as though a majestic marine mammal is in the room with you. Spectacular effects during slow motion collisions will have you asking if you’re looking at amazing graphics, or if your mind has just opened to a new level of consciousness. The game has always played best with a controller in hand, and Sony knows how to build a great controller. But now, with DualShock 4, you’ll never lose track of your ‘whal as the controller lights up to match the colour of your daring space beast! Your trigger fingers become one with the slippery hide of the colourful Starwhal for maximum immersion! The game runs at smooth 30 FPS on PS3, but sings songs of joy and wonder at 60 FPS on PS4 (rendering a full one thousand and eighty lines of resolution for splendid high definition). If you want the definitive, most responsive, hyperÂ-accurate simulation of spikeyÂheaded whales battling against the stars, the PS4 experience lets you play Starwhal like never before. Starwhal will be priced at $11.99 USD, and will feature cross Âbuy so you can enjoy it your way on PS4 or PS3. See you in the stars! View the full article

Hello World Warriors! We are excited to announce the details of 2015 Capcom Pro Tour circuit. Our inaugural season last year was a great success, with record breaking numbers all over the globe that helped push the fighting game community to new heights. Capcom and Twitch both learned a ton of things throughout the season, and with PlayStation now on board to lend their support, we are all committed to making this season bigger, better, and more epic than before. Thanks goes out to the passionate fans who provided feedback on the tour and we’ve gone to great lengths to help integrate those comments into the tour structure this year in order to create something that everyone can get hyped for. First things first: the game of the tour will be Ultra Street Fighter IV for this season. Now down to the details! We had 3 main goals coming into this season: Give fans more Street Fighter content to enjoy and look forward to. More evenly distribute the tournaments and point totals across the different world regions. Increase tournament prize pools across the board, and incentivize more players to get involved with the tour. To that end, we are implementing several important changes to the way the tour operates this year: Instead of 16 spots for Capcom Cup, we are doubling the numbers of players to 32 spots. In order to accomplish this, we are increasing the number of Premier events to 16, and are taking the top 15 players from the point leaderboards. The final spot will automatically go to the previous season’s Capcom Cup Champion (in this case, EG Momochi). The standard rule set for CPT events will be: 2/3 games until Top 8, and 3/5 games after that. This allows for more matches between top players on finals day, which are what everyone wants to see! So in the example of a two day tournament, the entire Saturday would be 2/3 and players would qualify for Top 8, then Sunday would be 3/5 all the way through for Top 8. We will be revealing the format for Capcom Cup and other event details at a later date, so keep an eye out for that! We divided the world into four major “regions†in order to equalize the point distribution and provide a fair environment for every player to be able to qualify for the Capcom Cup. The four regions are: North America, Europe, Asia, and Wild Card. Here is the full list of Premier events for the 2015 season: North America Final Round – Atlanta, GA, USA NorCal Regionals – Sacramento, CA, USA SoCal Regionals – Orange, CA, USA Community Effort Orlando – Orlando, FL, USA Europe Hypespotting 4 – Scotland, UK Stunfest – Rennes, France Milan Games Week – Milan, Italy Dreamhack Winter – Jönköping, Sweden Asia South East Asia Major – Bangkok, Thailand Mad Catz Tokyo Game Show – Tokyo, Japan Capcom Pro Tour Asia Finals – Singapore TBD Japan Tournament Wild Card Evolution – Las Vegas, NV, USA Canada Cup – Canada Brazil Game Show – Sao Paulo, Brazil KO Fighting Game Festival – Kuwait You can see we put Evolution and Canada Cup as a Wild Card events. Given the large amount of international competition at these tournaments, we felt that they could be considered multinational events instead of just North American events. Here is the same breakdown of Premier events, this time in chronological order: DateEvent NameTypeRegionCountryMar20 – 22Final RoundPremierNAUSAApr03 – 05NorCal RegionalsPremierNAUSAApr04 – 05Hypespotting 4PremierEUScotlandMay01 – 03Socal RegionalsPremierNAUSAMay22 – 24StunfestPremierEUFranceJun19 – 21South East Asia MajorPremierASIAThailandJun26 – 28CEOPremierNAUSAJul17 – 19EvolutionPremierWILDUSASep17 – 20Mad Catz Tokyo Game ShowPremierASIAJapanSep24 – 26KO Fighting Game FestivalPremierWILDKuwaitOctTBDCanada CupPremierWILDCanadaOct08 – 12Brazil Game ShowPremierWILDBrazilOct23 – 25Milan Games WeekPremierEUItalyNov13 – 15Capcom Pro Tour Asia FinalsPremierASIASingaporeNov26 – 29Dreamhack WinterPremierEUSwedenTBDTBDJapan Premier EventPremierASIAJapanInformation regarding online tournaments will be shared at a later date. With help from PlayStation, the total prize pool for the 2015 season has been increased to a whopping half a million dollars. That’s $500,000 up for grabs throughout the year. The prize pool distribution is as follows: Premier Tournaments (excluding EVO and Japan-based events) Prize Pool Bonus: Total $15,000 split between top 8 1st Place: $7,000 2nd Place: $3,000 3rd Place: $1,500 4th Place: $1,000 5th ~ 6th Place: $750 (each) 7th ~ 8th Place: $500 (each) Evolution Prize Pool Bonus: Total $50,000 split between top 8 1st Place: $20,000 2nd Place: $10,000 3rd Place: $7,000 4th Place: $5,000 5th ~ 6th Place: $2,500 (each) 7th ~ 8th Place: $1,500 (each) Capcom Cup Prize Pool: Total $250,000 split between top 8 1st Place: $120,000 (yes, you read that correctly) 2nd Place: $60,000 (not bad for 2nd place we would say) 3rd Place: $25,000 4th Place: $15,000 5th ~ 6th Place: $10,000 (each) 7th ~ 8th Place: $5,000 (each) Phew! That’s a lot of updates, but hopefully all you out there are as hyped for this year as we are. As always, the Capcom Fighters Twitch.tv channel will be the home destination for all the Premier tournament action this year, so be sure to follow the stream to receive updates on when it goes live. In addition, we have renewed our official website, CapcomProTour.com, with all the above information, plus information on the various Ranking tournaments that will be going on weekly around the world. The official website will be going through some renovations this year with more consistent content updates and special features for Pro Tour fans to enjoy, so make sure to bookmark it and check back frequently for new updates. Good luck to all our competitors this year and be sure to read up, practice up, and get ready to grab part of that $500k! It’s going to be a wild one. View the full article

February is the month where some of the most prestigious award shows take place. The Grammy Awards were a few weekends ago and the Academy Awards are this Sunday. We’re getting in on the fun with two sales — the Critics’ Choice Sale, discounting some of the biggest games from 2014 that received awards and recognition from the gaming media; and the Oscars Sale, discounting Academy Award-winning films from years past. We’ve got another sweet bonus for you this week — get a $15 credit when you spend more than $100 using your SEN Wallet on PS Store today through February 24th at 11:59 PM Pacific. You’ll receive a redemption code for your $15 credit on or before March 2nd via email, XMB message on PS3, or system notification on PS4/PS Vita. The redemption code must be redeemed by 11:59 PM Pacific on March 31. Starting later today, following the PS Store publish, you’ll be able to snag a ton of award-winning games like Destiny, Dragon Age: Inquisition, FIFA 15, Danganronpa, and more at up to 70 percent off through Monday, February 23rd. PS Plus members can pick up these titles at up to 80 percent off. I’m coming up on an anniversary. Very soon I will clock my third full year of involvement with Powers. I’m not certain of the exact date, but that anniversary is going to hit almost exactly on the March 10th Powers premiere date. Let’s hear it for synchronicity. Here’s another bit of synchronicity. Long before I became involved with Powers, years before I met Brian Michael Bendis or Michael Avon Oeming (I like that both those guys buck the single name branding trend by going with their full spread three-stack names. I tried it, but my full name makes me sound like a reject from the Monty Python Upper Class Twit of the Year Award sketch), long before I had any involvement in TV as a business, lo those many years ago, I was given an opportunity to write some comic books. Like any healthy geek introvert, I’d been a fan of comics as a kid and a teen, but as the years passed and I developed any number of unhealthy bad habits that distracted me from such things, my visits to the local shop diminished and, finally, disappeared. Which did nothing to diminish my immense excitement at the prospect of writing a superhero comic book for Marvel comics. The rub being that I had no idea about what was going on in comics, let alone any idea of how to write a comic. So I started doing research. How do you research comic books? You read a bunch of comic books, man. And I did. And I found that in the decades I’d been away from them, comics had come a loooong way. I read a load of really good stuff. Chief among that were several titles by this guy Brian Michael Bendis. And chief among those titles was a book called Powers. So, to learn how to write comics, I studied Brian Michael Bendis and, more specifically, I studied Powers. I’m still studying Powers, but with a far different perspective. My days just now are spent in editing bays studying the footage from the Powers TV show that I am somehow, utterly improbably, helping to create. Above you will get a chance to see a little behind the scenes featurette that teases all our efforts. And shortly after that, you get to start watching the show. I’m cutting the tenth and final episode right now, watching, over and over, the culmination of years’ worth of planning and writing and rewriting and starts and stops and more rewriting and disasters and miracles and…and…and… And really, this is just the beginning. On March 10th, PlayStation Store will have the first three episodes of Powers with a new episode coming out each week. The entire season is free if you have PlayStation Plus. And that will be a hell of an anniversary for me. View the full article

Hello everybody! Mike here from Pringo Dingo Games, and our first title Paparazzi is out today on PS4! Paparazzi is a 2 player local multiplayer game in which player 1, the celebrity, frantically avoids the camera of player 2, the paparazzi. Avoid the paparazzi to maintain your dignity or catch the celebrity to rack up some money in this fast, frantic, and silly indie game! Each match of Paparazzi is a 1v1 showdown between celebrity and paparazzi. It’s a matchup of predator and prey; the celebrity runs and hides while the paparazzi tries to catch them. Paparazzi is also FAST. We did our best when designing the game to never compromise the speed of play, while still discouraging being “spammyâ€. Each side has a different playstyle, so we want to give you a rundown of how both work… The celebrity is the prey. You’re a small character in each scrolling level, with the ability to hide behind every object in the world. Your main weapon is your dash — you can dash a short distance in the level at any point with only a fraction of a second cool-down. Your job is to misdirect the paparazzi, collect adoring fans to raise your dignity, and slip from cover to cover without losing control of yourself. Each mistake you make will give the paparazzi an advantage to take pictures of you. The paparazzi is the predator. Your opponent plays as a camera reticle hovering over the level, chasing the celebrity around and snapping pictures. While the celebrity is a more classic style of gameplay, your opponent will be using DualShock 4’s motion controls to move their reticle around the screen. The paparazzi’s job is to be relentless, but smart — you can take as many pictures as you’d like! However, a small amount of money will be deducted every time an unsuccessful picture is taken. Each round is a tug of war between the celebrity’s dignity and the paparazzi’s money. Successful pictures of the celebrity gives the paparazzi money. Gaining adoring fans gives the celebrity dignity. You’ll be pushing the score bar at the top back and forth the entire game, and whoever has either more dignity or money when the celebrity gets in the limo will be dubbed the winner! Paparazzi is meant to be a uniquely silly brand of fun. Pringo Dingo Games is formed around a love for silliness and weirdness, and you’ll see it in every corner of the game. From beached whales and slipping on bananas, to redundant level names, we’ve ensured that the game will provide a high “giggles-per-minute†(GPM)* gameplay experience (we’ve measured it at an astounding 8.35 GPM!). Available today on PS4! Only $4.99! *Giggle per Minute is a fictional statistic View the full article

Hi guys! Kim from Defiant Development, here. Today marks the launch of Hand of Fate on PS4, and I wanted to give ya’ll insight into what you should expect while you play this roguelike deckbuilder we hold dear to our hearts. Before I get to the juicy stuff, allow me to talk a bit about Defiant and how Hand of Fate came to fruition. So we’re an indie studio based in Brisbane, Australia (more commonly known as ‘Straya) — home to bird-eating spiders and dingoes that eat babies. At least the beaches and forests are nice. I digress! Over the last four years we’ve built a team of local veterans of the console industry (Pandemic, THQ, SEGA, and Krome), and fresh new talent. A couple of successful mobile games later, we found ourselves in a strong position where the team can bring indie to console, thus the conception of Hand of Fate. In fact, we’ll be the first Australian studio to both self-publish and develop a title for PS4. This is a massive achievement for us, and ‘Straya as a whole! Ok, enough about us. Let’s talk Hand of Fate. Your JourneyProgression When you start Hand of Fate, you are introduced to The Dealer beyond the Thirteen Gates at the End of the World. He challenges you to a game of life and death where you must defeat thirteen bosses to win. With a few magical hand gestures, The Dealer reveals your dungeon layout in the form of encounter cards (quests or missions). You must venture and complete these encounters until you reach and — hopefully — defeat the boss waiting for you at the end of the dungeon run. Bosses Bosses are themed to a suit (monster type) and come in Jack, Queen or King variants — all of which have a unique set of evil characteristics and packs of minions. The suits are: Dust: humans Skulls: skeletons Plague: ratmen-like creatures Scales: lizardmen-like creatures In addition to bosses, you’ll come across unique Ace monster types — these act like wildcard monsters who’ll appear in a random fashion and have an interesting power or skill. For example, The Mage will shoot magic orbs towards the player. Encounters Encounters come in two formats: combat and non-combat. A non-combat encounter will generally present the player with a choice — the result of which will likely affect your health, food and gold stats. A combat encounter will transport the player from the table scene to a beautiful 3D world where you’ll fight randomly drawn monsters with the equipment you’ve collected along the way. In either case, both types come in the form of a Dungeons and Dragon’s type scenario with options to choose from. Be careful and tread gingerly because your choice could mean life or death. Combat Once you enter combat, you’re thrust into an arena, fighting against hordes of monsters in fast-paced, real time. Your success is based upon your ability to amass combos of successful hits while also utilizing your counter attack and dodge roll to avoid enemy attacks. As mentioned earlier, you’ll be facing different enemy suits as you progress through the game, each of which have their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, enemies of the Plague suit will emit a lethal gas at their place of death which will deal damage if you walk through it. You also have hundreds of weapon, armor, gauntlet, ring and helmet combos at your disposal — let’s hope you’ve optimized your deck to suit your current dungeon run (More on that below!). Health and Food It’s super important to keep track of both your health and food stats during each dungeon run. Why? Well health is obvious, but every time you come across a new encounter, you will consume one food. Once you get to zero food, you start taking damage (Adventurers need to eat!). This adds a slice of strategy to how you approach encounters that might ask for food in return for a reward. Feed yourselves, fools! The Dealer Think of The Dealer as a sass-mouthed Dungeon Master. He controls the map layouts, monsters drawn for combat encounters, and the Pain and Gain decks. The Pain and Gain cards are issued at random and are a result of resolved encounters. They act like modifiers to your health, food, and gold. If you’re really lucky/unlucky they’ll bequeath a blessing or curse — passive modifiers that affect gameplay. For example, the Wrath of the Gods blessing will kill one enemy at the beginning of each combat. Deckbuilding and Gaining New CardsDeckbuilding allows players to customize how they play Hand of Fate through the choice of encounter and equipment cards. How Would You Like to Play? Let’s remind ourselves that the aim of the game is to defeat the thirteen bosses. Each boss brings along its minions that have similar characteristics. So it’s in your interests to customize your deck to suit the characteristics of the boss you are trying to find in the dungeon. For example, The Queen of Skulls will scatter an army of skeletons amongst combat encounters. You’ll find that a mace is super effective against the Skulls suit, so naturally, you’d add more maces to your equipment deck. But hey! I’m not going to tell you how you should play. In fact, for you non-deckbuilders out there, there’s an auto-fill option so you can get straight to business. You just may or may not have the most optimized deck for the boss you’re searching for. Maybe you’re feeling lucky? Anyway, you’ve got some control over how many combat versus non-combat encounters you have in your Encounter deck, however, some are locked for the sake of progression or because they’re linked to future encounter cards that have yet to be actioned or unlocked. Get unlockin’! Gaining New Cards To gain new cards you must successfully complete encounter cards that are marked with a red token. Yet another thing to consider as you customize your encounter deck! So there you have it, guys! A bit more on Defiant and Hand of Fate which is available today on PlayStation Store. Happy playing! View the full article

If, one day, 99.9% of humans turned into zombies, what would you do? Deadman’s Cross is a game that depicts such a world. Hello, my name is Shinichi Tatsuke and I’m a producer at Square Enix. I’d like to introduce Deadman’s Cross, a game that launches today on PlayStation Vita. This zombie card battle RPG recorded 4.7 million downloads worldwide last year. And now, it’s coming to Vita as an enhanced, free-to-play game. The setting is America in the year 2030. The government suddenly declares martial law in which everyone is restricted from going outside. You break the law and cautiously step outside — what you see is a world overrun with strange creatures called “Deadmen.†The game is split into two sections: shooting and card battles. In the shooting section, you’ll shoot down Deadman, one after another, as they come after you. You fire away at the Deadmen that emerge in various areas like the town, graveyard, casino, aircraft carrier, and baseball field. In this world, even animals and plants turn into Deadmen. Furthermore, historical figures like Napoleon and Lincoln also appear in-game as Deadmen. You can actually capture the Deadmen you defeat. What are you going to do… collecting zombies? Well, the people of this world are into this particular recreation. Even in these desperate times, a TV network looking for business concocted a program that sets Deadmen against one another to fight… and it’s become a huge hit! People can enter the captured Deadmen into this program to compete. You, too, will soon capture a Deadman, join the fight, and aim for the top spot. These are card-based battles, but the rules are easy to comprehend unlike TCGs — anyone can easily pick up the game. Other than the battle element, the game comes with an enriching story which tends to be rare for free-to-play games. The girl who lost a companion, the head of the circus troupe who is looking for an animal, the hacker who is trying to uncover the mystery to reviving the Deadmen, and more — the array of unique characters is definitely something to look out for. The music is by Naoshi Mizuta, a composer on the Final Fantasy series. All the tracks are very stylish and have a fresh feel to them. I personally really like it. I’ve basically explained everything in one breath, but this should be a new type of game that you have never experienced before in a free-to-play title, nor in a typical console game. I recommend this to all of you who want to continuously defeat zombies, who want to enjoy a variety of zombie illustrations, and who want to experience a zombie story. Why not enjoy this hopeless world together? We’d love for you to download the game and give it a try. View the full article

With the many areas we’ve covered over the months as we approach the launch of The Order: 1886, there’s still one major aspect we haven’t yet addressed: the cast. About a year into the project, once the story and initial script were written, it was time for us to cast our characters. The requirements were pretty stringent, the character sheet was filled with details of each of the protagonists that would make our game and define our world. Finding the right actors for these parts was the last piece of the puzzle to finally make each of our characters come to life. The search was long. It took many months, rounds of casting and auditions with a wide spectrum of extremely talented actors. In the end, it came down to four people who would form the core of the Order’s most elite squad. We finally had our cast. Steve West stepped in the shoes of our protagonist, Sir Galahad. He brought with him the balance and stoicism that Galahad exuded as a time and battle-worn Knight. Alice Coulthard embodies the subtle and complex character traits that define Lady Ingraine; a lady of the Victorian Era with poise and decorum. But behind her facade lies a skilled and deft warrior. Graham McTavish became the de facto leader when he stepped onto our stage. A favorite amongst both game and movie lovers, Graham is Sir Perceval, one of the most senior, wise, and most trusted members of the Order. The Marquis de Lafayette was always going to be a tricky character to approach and Frederik Hamel has done the role justice and much more, bringing the needed joviality and levity to balance our squad. And a certain “je ne sais quoi…†Together our main cast became the backbone of the story and the relationships you will experience in the game. Each of our characters are symbols of the eras they came from. They each have the qualities and faults that are brought on but their respective experience and positions in the history of our world. Those of course not only had to be translated into the script and brought to life by the actors, they also had to be visualized in the creation of their likenesses. View the full article

Nothing better than going to Pizza Hut as a kid and having tables with built-in arcade games like Centipede, Asteroid and of course Q*bert™. That was my childhood in Southeast New Mexico and West Texas growing up. I could not believe it when Loot announced Q*bert™ on the PlayStation Blog. But then again, why not? We had a blast playing Fluster Cluck released earlier this year by Loot and now we get to play one of the all time classics! Jamie Ottilie, CEO of Galaxy Pest Control Games mentioned: “Q*bert: Rebooted remains faithful to the commercially successful 1980’s arcade game while creating an entirely new experience that appeals to today’s savvy gamer. We saw an incredible opportunity by partnering with LOOT to bring Q*bert and his band of adversaries, like Coily, Ugg, and Red Ball, to the 21st Century via PlayStation®.†Now you are not just getting the Classic Q*bert™, you get Q*bert™: Rebooted as well, rated E for everyone and PEGI 3, and is now available for download on PS4™, PS3™ and PSVita™ entertainment systems for $9.99 and $6.99 for PlayStation Plus members (SCEA) and €8.99 and €5.99 for PlayStation Plus members (SCEE.) So for less than $10 you are getting 2 games in one, the original and Rebooted which replaces the cubes with 3D hexagons and introduces new playable characters such as Q*bot, Q*bertha, Q*knight, Q*nicorn, and Q*zilla, along with new enemies, traps, gem collecting, and power-ups. Q*bert™ is a must have for any gamer out there and even better for you parents out there that want to show the kiddos how we gamed back in the day. Too bad there is not a coin slot to collect quarters from the kids like we had to do it! More information on Q*bert: Rebooted or LOOT Entertainment can be found at www.lootentertainment.com. Players can follow Q*bert: Rebooted on Twitter and Facebook or by visiting www.qbert.com. View the full article

Hello everyone, this is Chuck Doud, the Director Of Music for Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios America. Our team produces music for your favorite games from Worldwide Studios that include Journey, The Last Of Us, The Order: 1886, and the God Of War, Infamous and Uncharted series — just to name a few. At PlayStation, we have state-of-art recording and production studios across 3 locations in San Mateo, Los Angeles, and San Diego. These include live recording rooms, 5.1 and 7.1 control rooms, and a small armada of individual production rooms where we record, mix, edit, and implement the music for our games. We also work in recording studios all over the world including Abbey Road and Skywalker Sound. Whether it’s an 80-piece orchestra, a wheelharp player, a 32-piece choir, or a rock band, our team is on the front lines making sure we work with the top talent in the industry to create music for our games. Recently we put the finishing touches on the score we produced for Bloodborne. Our Music Team partnered with From Software and Japan Studio to make sure that Bloodborne had one of the most original, beautiful, and hair-raising scores you’ll hear in a video game. This was our first time working with From Software and the game director Miyazaki-san, and we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to help bring this music to life. The secret to the score’s success is firmly rooted in how the music authentically reflects the character and mood of the game. This authenticity began with the composers, whose music fueled the performances of the musicians and the entire recording team. The end result of this amazing process has produced a score that is broodingly breathtaking in its ability to convey a sense of overwhelming dread, beauty and despair. It is pugilistic, otherworldly and transcendent. And at every turn, every note of every beat, it remains steadfastly informed by the creative vision of Bloodborne’s creator. The score was recorded in London at Abbey Road and Air Studios. It was performed by a 65 piece orchestra, a 32 piece choir, and multiple vocal and instrumental soloists. Over 90 minutes of music was mixed at our recording studios here at the Playstation headquarters in San Mateo. The music was composed by in-house composers at From Software as well as the multiple guest composers. The video will give you a front row seat to the epic recording sessions at Abbey Road and Air Lindherst Studios. Strap yourself in and enjoy the show. View the full article

Hi, it’s Jakub from Grip Games. This week, we launched Unmechanical: Extended for PS4 and PS3. Just like the story of the game, even the development has been a difficult journey full of puzzles and problems. This post-mortem article maps what we think went right and wrong during the development, and what has shaped Unmechanical: Extended into what it is today. Unmechanical started its life as a PC game, developed by Talawa Games and Teotl Studios. At Grip Games, we have a long history of working with other game developers and bringing their games to consoles — The Impossible Game being the best-known among them. But Unmechanical was a completely different beast — created using an AAA engine, bigger than any other game we have made up until then and with a dedicated fan base that would eat us alive if we messed it up. Developing Unmechanical: Extended was really like getting sucked into a dangerous underground world looking for a way to see the daylight again. What Went RightExtending Unmechanical Unmechanical got some rave reviews when it was released on PC, won prestigious awards for its visuals, and had a large community of die-hard fans. But the console version needed to bring something new. More story, more puzzles, and more characters — to make the game longer and to let everyone who enjoyed the original game get something new. And thus Teotl Studios and Talawa Games created Extended — a completely new episode, where we return to the strange Unmechanical complex one more time. And the developers really outdid themselves with Extended. They included a second character in that story, which spends a lot of time with your character, but always separated from him, sometimes working together to solve puzzles, sometimes needing to be saved, or saving you. Extended really took Unmechanical in a great new direction and made the whole game a lot richer. Unreal Engine Unreal is the king of game engines, and when you look at screenshots and trailers from Unmechanical, you’ll immediately see why. Even a small, independent team can create a truly beautiful game, full of visual effects that are usually only associated with AAA projects. It’s not always easy to tame the Unreal Engine beast, as it was made for large-scale projects and not for super-effective indie development, but it rarely became an issue. I think that the game could never look even remotely this good, across several different game platforms, as it does, without Unreal Engine. We have several other games in development and all of them are using Unreal. The Team(s) Unmechanical: Extended was a collaboration between three companies — Grip Games, Teotl Studios, and Talawa Games. Each having their own tasks to do and with people scattered all around Europe, from the Czech Republic and Germany, to Sweden. It could have turned into a disaster, but it actually worked really well. Problems were solved, discussions were friendly, deadlines and milestones were not missed by rage-inducing amounts. Thanks to Unmechanical, we have adopted Unreal engine as our technology of choice for future projects and formed a lot of new friendships and opportunities for the future. I can already say, even when Unmechanical is still just being launches, it was a breakthrough game for us. Problems We FacedStory Unmechanical: Extended has a really experimental narrative for a video game. There is no spoken dialog, no written messages. The whole story is told through the things you see and things you experience. And there are pieces of the story missing intentionally, to let the player’s imagination do the explaining. This has worked only to a certain degree, though. While we were happy to see that each player creatively came with a name of their own for the main hero, many players actually failed to spot the little story elements scattered around the game. Why was the little robot taken and what was supposed to happen to him, who are the other characters and what is their purpose? It’s all there. You just need to have your eyes open. A lot of players just rushed through the game, complaining that it was too short and that it didn’t have a story, instead of slowing down, feeling the atmosphere and unravel the secrets. Maybe we should have just had memos to read, scattered around the levels, or Morgan-Freeman-like voice explain everything in the end. But where’s the mystery in that? Working on Two Projects At Once As we have grown as a studio, we started something that is always a major step for any game studios, small or AAA — we started working on two games simultaneously, with two separate teams and a few people belonging to both projects and some people on top of that, trying to keep it all together. We started working on Unmechanical: Extended while we were still deeply in the development of Jet Car Stunts. And when the development of Jet Car Stunts was finished, we started with Tower of Guns, which is our next upcoming game after Unmechanical: Extended. Juggling two projects at once isn’t easy. It came with its own pains, like moving to a larger office space, getting more development hardware… this really could have ended badly, with missed deadlines, unclear responsibilities, lower production qualities, bad QA, etc. It’s also a riskier state of affairs for an independent, self-funded developer than it is for an AAA studio. You really have to be sure that the games you are making are worth the extra trouble. There were some initial pains, occasional yelling and heightened consumption of coffee, but in the end, it all worked better than we even hoped. Jet Car Stunts is out (with only two months delay), Unmechanical is on time, and Tower of Guns is actually ahead of schedule. And so, after nine months of development, over twenty people involved, four platforms supported, and one production baby born, Unmechanical: Extended was launched this week. We all hope you’ll like it. View the full article

Hi PlayStation fans, the first Just Cause 3 trailer is here! It’s very hard to put into words just how excited we are about sharing a first glimpse of the game that we have been pouring our hearts and souls into. It’s a big moment for all of us in the studio. Our “Firestarter†CG trailer hints at some of the new features we’re bringing with Just Cause 3, and sets the tone for what you can expect from the first look at gameplay that we’re working hard on. This time around it’s more about Rico than ever before. What motivates him to travel the world from one stunning location to the other? What drives him to destroy in order to preserve freedom? Well, you will find out in due course. I can already hear you saying: “Just give us the gameplay!†All I can say is: I know. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on, and we take a lot of pride in it. That’s why we want to make sure the first gameplay trailer we put out shows what Just Cause 3 is about, and that it meets both ours and your expectations. And that takes time. We don’t want to rush things and disappoint the very community that has been supporting us for so long. So, while you wait, please kick back and enjoy the soothing explosions of the Firestarter trailer. Soon enough, there will be plenty of “holy sh*t†moments to go around for everyone as we increase the mayhem level a few notches with the very first look at gameplay. Please enjoy, and let us know what you think in the comments below! View the full article

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and maybe that means you’ll be off on a romantic break. You may want to curl up by a fire with friends or a loved one, but what if your trip turned into more than you bargained for? Until Dawn | PlayStation.com As you may know by now, Until Dawn sees a group of eight friends on their annual mountain getaway, which turns into a night of sheer terror. However, before things go awry you’ll get to know the characters and understand the complex relationships in their social circle. When you start the game you will meet the characters as they couple off around the house (by choice or circumstance) before their holiday turns into an all-out fight for survival. If you’ve watched previous trailers and demos you’re already familiar with Ashley and Chris and their ‘will-they won’t-they’ friendship. One of our favorite things about this dynamic is that their relationship is not pre-defined at the beginning of the game; your choices will decide if the relationship either blossoms or wilts before the night is out. That is, if they survive. Choice is a central tenet of Until Dawn. Your actions not only determine who lives or dies, but will also directly influence the relationships between the characters (romantic or otherwise). You will even influence how characters react to each other. If you are mean to a friend, they may or may not choose to save you later in the game. The narrative will always continue forward, adapting to your decisions throughout the game – meaning that your game will be noticeably different from anyone else’s. As with everything in Until Dawn, whether you choose to play cupid or become a heartbreaker is up to you. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy our special Valentine’s themed trailer! Hi PlayStation Nation! I’m extremely excited to announce PlayStation HEROES, a brand new initiative that will give PS4 owners the chance to play celebrities and professional athletes in the games of their choosing, with nearly all proceeds going to charity. This is not a one-time event – gamers will get the chance to challenge celebs every month. Winners will play some of the biggest PS4 games with cultural icons from the sports and entertainment worlds, online via PlayStation Network and in person. Here’s how it works: PS4 owners will purchase and download digital themes and other items via an official PlayStation HEROES app, with each dollar spent providing you with a sweepstakes entry to win one of the celebrity gaming sessions. Proceeds from the sales of those items will help aid some amazing charitable organizations including Make-A-Wish America, The USO and The V Foundation for Cancer Research. To celebrate PlayStation HEROES and kick start our support for these incredible causes, we’re donating $100,000 to each charity. The official PlayStation HEROES app for PS4, which will be available for download on February 24 from PlayStation Store, will be your portal not just to purchase the digital content for entries, but also to find information on future celebrity participants, view videos of your fellow gamers playing celebs, and earn badges. The first PlayStation HEROES event will feature legendary snowboarder Shaun White playing Bungie’s Destiny in mid-March. Starting today, you can pre-order the PlayStation HEROES app and gain early access to purchase dynamic themes, which serve as entries to win a chance to play Destiny with Shaun next month. You’ll be able to pick between a $1, $5, $10 or $15 theme, with each dollar spent counting as one sweepstakes entry. There will also be a special $20 bundle for all four themes that will count as 31 entries. Proceeds from entries to play with Shaun will benefit Make-A-Wish America. I can’t wait to watch PlayStation Nation take on Shaun White and other celebrities in some of the biggest games on PS4, all while lending a hand to benefit the great causes these charities fight for. We all believe in giving back to the community – and why not give back with the very thing we all love so much? Gaming! Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events and don’t forget to pre-order the app today so that you are ready for the app’s official launch on February 24. What celebrities, professional athletes and charities would you like to see take part in PlayStation HEROES? Let us know and we’ll start working on setting you all up for the play of a lifetime! Starting today, PlayStation Network (PSN) users will gain the ability to upgrade a sub account to a master account. We’re always listening to user feedback, and this is a feature that many of you have asked for. You’ll be able to upgrade an account first through the web and later through PlayStation 4. Instructions on how to start this process through the web can be found here. In case you aren’t familiar, sub accounts allow users under the age of 18 to access PSN while letting parents or guardians manage their online experience. A variety of PSN features can be limited through sub accounts including messages, monthly spending limits, and gameplay broadcasts. Additional information is available on our Knowledge Center, here. If you were on a sub account and turned 18 (Happy belated birthday!), you may want to upgrade to a master account to access the full feature set of PlayStation’s online experience, including PlayStation Store. Your profile will be carried over when upgrading to a master account, along with items like your friends list and Trophies. View the full article

Hi, I’m Dan Holbert, designer and programmer of Paperbound, a crazy new brawler coming soon to PS4. I’d like to share our trailer, talk a bit about the game, and answer any questions you have. It’s been a long journey filled with 7-day work weeks, so the team is happy that a lot of people have really enjoyed it. Paperbound is a game where you run with scissors and walk on walls — all in the context of old books that have come to life. It’s a local multiplayer brawler. Two-to-four players fight it out in single-screen arenas from the pages of old books including A Journey to the Center of the Earth, Dante’s Inferno, Musashi’s Book of Five Rings, the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, and Skull Kingdom. Magic dust has brought the characters from these books to life and given them the ability to manipulate gravity. Your gravity reorients to match the surface you’re traveling along. You can also flip your gravity 180 degrees at any time for quick surprise attacks and fly-by decapitations. It’s both wacky and full of intense competition. There’s something about running up a wall and then flying across the screen while throwing scissors shuriken-style that just never gets old for me. With Paperbound, I wanted to create something that is fast and twitchy, but that also has depth. Three weapons interact in a variety of ways that require you to be fast with both your reflexes and your strategizing. The melee attack is your bread and butter, fast and deadly. Throw scissors for precision long-range attacks. The ink bomb is a more advanced weapon that can take out several opponents at once but requires skill to avoid it backfiring on you. We often compare Paperbound to Smash Bros. because that’s a well-known game, and because we feature playable characters from a number of other games, but if you’re familiar with TowerFall or Samurai Gunn, those are closer comparisons. But whereas those excellent games have 8-bit aesthetics, the hand-drawn environments of Paperbound allow for 360 degrees of gravitational freedom and a wide variety of arenas. Paperbound has 11 original characters from the pages of the books, plus a number of playable cameo characters including Juan Aguacate from Guacamelee!, The Locksmith from Monaco, and Captain Viridian from VVVVVV. There are 18 levels spread among the 5 books, and four different game modes in both free-for-all and team varieties. One of my favorites is playing Capture the Quill in the Labyrinth arena. And I think you’ll appreciate the twist we put on the basic versus mode. Rather than the game simply ending when a certain score count is reached, a tear opens in the page, and the leading player has to exit through it in order to win, changing things up and creating a great finale. I wanted to add something that rewards mastery of the physics and brings in the tension of games like Nidhogg, and this hit the mark. Paperbound will be available on PS4 soon. Thanks for reading. Please ask us any questions. We’d love to answer them. View the full article
