  3. Go vote for the best games of 2014! Feel free to share your picks in the comments — I’ll do the same. A few highlights that didn’t quite make the top ten this week: Sid went hands-on with Evolve’s terrifyingly graceful new monster, the Wraith, Square Enix revealed a lust-worthy Collector’s Edition for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Supergiant and Roll7 (two of my favorite studios!) stopped by to wish everyone a happy holiday, and Road Not Taken got a new update that a) you can download for free and adds a bunch of new stuff. I’m back on the Destiny grind since The Dark Below came out — see you in the Iron Banner? I also finally got around to checking out the first episode of Tales From the Borderlands. I already regret one of the decisions I made, but I will not go back and replay it. I will stand by my choices! I’m this close to logging back into Final Fantasy XIV after all the Heavensward announcements they just made at Tokyo Fan Fest (three new jobs, Alexander raid dungeon, new playable race), but once I do I fear I may not be able to log out. Maybe I’ll try the new Destiny raid one more time… What are you playing? 5. As 2014 winds down and we look toward the new year, we wanted to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season from all of us at Supergiant. We shall do so now in the universal language of wallpaper JPEGs! It’s been a big year for us, and we’re very grateful for the incredible enthusiasm we’ve received from our fans. From the moment we revealed Transistor, you’ve been incredibly supportive, and that enthusiasm makes a huge difference during development. Even now, months after the game’s launch back in May, we still get wonderful messages from you about your experiences with the game — from all over the world. Having launched Transistor, we’re now in that relatively quiet period where we’re putting our heads together figuring out what’s next. We’re keeping busy in the mean time! Just this month we announced Bastion’s coming to PlayStation 4 and Vita, and Transistor for PS4 will soon be available on PSN in Japan, come January 8. Plus, we just moved to a new space in San Francisco that’s a better fit for us (and besides, our old lease was up). The change of scenery marks a fresh start for whatever comes next, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted. Thanks for sticking with us in 2014, and see you next year! View the full article

  8. When it comes to video game development, it’s a rare miracle when your team has a week in which everything goes right — but that’s exactly what happened for us when we brought Rocket League to PlayStation Experience earlier this month. It was a fantastic show and one that we were definitely honored to be a part of, but to be honest, we weren’t sure what to expect. After all, we’ve been developing Rocket League with longtime Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars fans in mind; so how “new” players would take to it was a bit of a mystery until we put the game into their hands. Luckily, they loved it. The sheer amount of positive feedback we received for Rocket League was both encouraging and humbling. Watching new and returning Battle-Cars fans pick up the controls and dive into their first game with ease, while flashing massive smiles, was “our new best moment of the show” every time it happened — and it happened a lot! When all was said and done, though, these were the Top Five things we took away from our time at PlayStation Experience: 1.) We didn’t make enough shirts. The demand for Rocket League t-shirts was enormous. Most folks wanted to buy them off of us, but were happy to learn that they could win one by being the MVP in one of our four-player split-screen matches. Even so, we were out of every shirt in every size and every color by the start of Day Two. We’ll remember to print more for next time… 2.) Customization is a big deal. Though we weren’t showing anything specific at PlayStation Experience, Rocket League’s customization options came up a lot — pretty much in every game that was played. The bad news was that we couldn’t talk about it yet, but the good news was that it took every fiber of our being to not talk about it. We have big plans for this, more than 100+ customization items and a ton of really cool items that should have people talking once we get into it next year. 3.) Four-player splitscreen is an even bigger deal. “Games just don’t have this anymore” was a comment we heard on numerous occasions, “My son and I are going to play the heck out of this” was another. Quotes like these permeated our booth for the entirety of PlayStation Experience. We were extremely encouraged to see other people get excited at the prospect of playing our game with their friends and loved ones. It struck a chord with us on several levels, both nostalgically and creatively, and it’s hard to put into words just how much it meant to us to see so much happiness surrounding our game. 4.) Players want control options and we’re going to give it to them. Despite the high level of praise we received about how the game felt, we also got a lot of feedback regarding the control scheme and how players had a personal preference to see it another way. Because Rocket League is the sequel to Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, we’ve left the control scheme almost identical to what we had in the original, but we also recognize (especially after the show) that folks want options — and that’s why we are now making sure to include multiple control schemes for gamers of every variety in the final version. 5.) We need to add more player events, and so we will. In Rocket League, we award individual points for playing well: Blocking a Shot, Attempting a Shot, Scoring a Goal, Setting up an Assist, etc. On the show floor, we saw an impressive amount of creative and impromptu maneuvers that felt like they needed special call-outs and points awards. Using an opponent’s car to hit the ball into the goal billiards-style, for example, made for awesome, yell-out-loud moments. Watching players score goals while in reverse was just as amazing. And so, as a result of seeing all these fantastic plays, we’re going to bolster our existing roster of player events to encourage folks to try as many crazy things as possible. And that sums up our entire PlayStation Experience. We hope that for those of you who were in attendance had as much fun playing our game as we had watching you. We look forward to bringing Rocket League to even more players worldwide when we launch this coming spring. On behalf of the entire Psyonix team, thank you very much. View the full article
  9. Oh boy, we cannot wait for Christmas! First off, we need the rest! It’s been a manic few years as our tiny little team has developed and published nine – NINE – PlayStation games since 2010. Starting with Coconut Dodge on PS Minis and most recently Velocity 2X on PS4 and PS Vita, it’s been a non-stop bullet train of excitement! Christmas is the one time of year that many of us can take a real break. Once we’ve finished all the turkey sandwiches, scoffed the random cheeses and picked at the two day old roast potatoes dipped in ketchup (or is that just me?), we can spend a little bit of time thinking about that pesky New Year’s resolution. What will yours be? Many people think that setting a New Year’s resolution is a pointless exercise, as once you’re back into your routine your best intentions are squashed by this thing called ‘reality.’ But what if your New Year’s resolution is to change your reality? On Christmas Day 2006, I set myself the New Year’s resolution to make a PlayStation game. With no idea how to make games, it was a ‘ridiculous’, ‘unrealistic’ goal by any measure, but once I’d admitted this was the only way I’d be happy, a burning passion was unleashed to make it true. As I sit here typing this now, there’s a beautiful Velocity 2X art book on the desk. On another monitor there’s a concept design for our next ambitious game. Reality has completely changed. Where once I was bored, frustrated and unhappy, now I’m excited, confident and extremely grateful for everything I’ve learned. It’s been a long and challenging journey so far, but it’s never been anything less than thrilling, and now eight years later it’s all come true! Of course, a lot of it has been down to PlayStation’s policy to welcome developers of all shapes and sizes, and down to all of you for supporting what we do, so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a big thanks to everyone at PlayStation! I want to leave you folks with my favourite quote from Henry Ford of Ford Motor Company: “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.†He wasn’t wrong, so what’s your New Year’s Resolution? Happy Holidays! View the full article

  12. The Wraith is a seductively sneaky addition to Evolve, Turtle Rock’s upcoming PS4 online shooter that pits four human hunters against one of three monstrous aliens in a battle for species survival. Compared to the hulking Goliath and maneuverable Kraken, the Wraith is a stealthy creature that gracefully dances into and out of battle with skills designed to mislead and misdirect. A perfect example is Decoy, which sends an aggressive clone lunging into the fray while rendering your monster invisible — perfect for distracting your human opponents from the front so you can strike from the rear. Precision ability Abduction darts you forward to drag a single hunter away from his comrades. That opens up a perfect chance to use Supernova, which rends nearby foes in a high-damage dervish of bladed claws. A fourth ability, Warp Blast, catapults the Wraith forward to deliver a high-impact explosion. The Wraith is noticeably less durable than the Goliath and Kraken, so you’ll rely on hit-and-run tactics, using abilities like Decoy and Abduction to keep enemy hunters off-balance. Like the other monsters, the Wraith can gorge on native wildlife to replenish its armor and earn Evolve points used to power up its abilities. Based on my hands-on time with the PS4 version, I’d recommend investing in Decoy — it’s a lifesaver! So far, Evolve is showing plenty of promise. If you’ve got questions about the PS4 version of Evolve, leave them in the comments below and I’ll elaborate where I can! Evolve is marching steadily towards its February 10th release date on PS4, but lucky players who were invited to participate in November’s Big Alpha on PS4 should be getting email invitations to a new technical test scheduled to begin January 17th on PS4. Check those inboxes! View the full article
  13. Hello, PlayStation fans! We had a great time in Las Vegas earlier this month, attending the Game Awards to debut our brand new Bloodborne gameplay trailer, and presenting a brand new game feature, Chalice Dungeons, keynote in front of the many fans in the audience — and so many more watching online. The new Chalice Dungeon feature takes players into the depths of ancient underground ruins located beneath the city of Yharnam. By using holy chalices, players can enter these dungeons and explore the vast structures and multiple levels. However, every time a portal is opened up, the structure of the dungeon itself changes. These dungeons are filled with traps, nightmarish creatures, and of course rewards for brave and skilled hunters to claim whether they complete them on their own, or with the help of other hunters online. Chalice Dungeons add a ton of additional content and replay value to the depth and richness of the full game itself, and can even be uploaded for other people to try out. Share your dungeons with your friends, or go online to find new Chalice Dungeons to explore. Even after you master the game, discovering all of the secrets it has to offer, there will be new challenges awaiting you. I’m excited to be able to share some brand new details and screenshots of some of the dark and dangerous locations, as well as some of the gruesome inhabitants of these vast subterranean ruins. Hunters brave enough to make their way into the ruins will have to navigate through places like dreadful oily swamps and intricate, gothic, grand halls. But beware, not everything is as it seems. Whoever, or whatever, created these ruins did not want visitors; deadly traps, like these giant guillotine blades caked in blood of hunters past, could be anywhere. Among the foul beasts and other creatures you’ll come across in the dungeons are the protectors and the protector ritual masters. Born in the depths of the dungeons and having never seen the light of day, these pale-skinned masters of the deep roam the halls, protecting the secrets held within. Despite their sunken, pitch-black eyes, be sure they will find you. Be especially mindful of the ritual masters, who perform a dark and ancient ceremony that few have lived to talk about. If you caught our Chalice Dungeon live demo during the PlayStation Experience keynote a few weeks ago, you’ll recognize this final enemy, the ancient guard dog. With a rock-hard petrified exterior and clad in a dense cloak of flames, these ancient guard dogs are said to be the oldest creatures found in the ruins. Let us know what you think in the comments below. We have a lot more to share in the coming months, so stay tuned right here to PlayStation.Blog. I hope you’re ready to hunt your nightmares starting on March 24th. View the full article
  14. Pillar is a collection of minigames, where each game represents a different type of personality that we find in people. You can read about some of the inspirations for the game on my first PS.Blog post, but today I have a couple of exciting new things to share with you! First, we’ve released a trailer for the game you can view below. Hopefully this gives you a feel for how the game will play, and adds context to the “telling a ‘story’ through gameplay mechanics” idea I touched on in the last post. Primarily you could say Pillar is a puzzle game, but there are elements of stealth, strategy and exploration sprinkled throughout the different games/characters. The next bit of news I have is that we’ve released the soundtrack for Pillar! The music is a very important part of the game. Since I was in the rare position of being both the musician and designer, I took extra care to make sure the music and gameplay are cohesive. In fact, I recorded a lot of the music while designing the respective level it goes to. I recorded and sampled over twenty different instruments for the soundtrack, mostly typical winter instruments like piano and glockenspiel. It was inspired by artists such as Tim Hecker, Nils Frahm, Peter Broderick and Sigur Rós; not your typical game soundtrack influences, but I wanted the songs to sound more human than machine. A big goal I had for the music was to make sure it doesn’t interfere with you while you’re playing. Parts of the game have intense puzzle solving, so the last thing we want to hear is a bunch of bleep bloops or raging guitar solos (one of the early cuts actually had this) while you’re trying to think! So essentially, I’m hoping the music is as interesting as it is ignorable, the exact description Brian Eno gives to ambient music. If you’re looking for relaxing winter music to listen to while you study/work/create etc. then you can purchase the Pillar OST below or here. Purchase includes eight bonus tracks, concept art from the game, a photography album and more. We’d really appreciate your support, the money from this will go into the final costs we need to cover shipping the game. Music For Pillar by Reven Unfortunately, the game won’t be coming out this year as originally planned, but it will definitely be out next year (hopefully before winter ends). Thanks for reading, I’d love to answer any questions below. I hope everyone has a great holiday season! View the full article
  15. Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! My name is David, here for Idea Factory International, and I’m happy to give you a glimpse of the battle system for the upcoming strategy RPG Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart, which is launching early 2015 exclusively on PS Vita. This spinoff of the Hyperdimension Neptunia world introduces a new way for everyone’s favorite Goddesses to fight, and they’ve brought a whole army of friends to help them! Taking place in the new world of Gamarket, you’ll see that the Goddesses get the chibi treatment, but just because they’re smaller doesn’t mean they can’t do huge amounts of damage! Because if there’s one thing these characters do better than breaking the fourth wall, it’s battle. And for the first time ever in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, your battleground is a 3D strategy grid. Your Goddesses will bring their crazy skills to the world of strategy, and lay the smackdown in a whole new way, but you can’t just run up to your enemy and hit ‘em or else you’d be taking the “strategy” out of “strategy RPG”. No, there’s some new things you’ve got to think about with this game’s battle system. First, we’ll start with the characters. With a new world comes new characters, and while Noire and friends are based on game systems, these new folks are rooted in a variety of favorite game series. There’s Lid, an eyepatch-wearing stealth freak who gets around in boxes; Lee-Fi, a fighter with a certain button sequence on her bangles; and Vio, a pistol-wielding lady with a zombie puppet and umbrella. There are plenty more playable characters — a total of 26, to be exact — each equipped with their own special skill sets and weapons, because you’ve got to amass a small army if you want to be able to survive on the battle grid. With so many choices, it’s only fair that you should be able to swap characters mid-battle so everyone gets a taste of (Neptunia?) victory! There’s an added bonus to giving all your characters a taste of battle — by having characters perform special skills next to allies, you’ll be able to bump up their Lily Rank. Increasing Lily Ranks means a higher Lily Boost, so that the next time that character performs a special skill with their allies by their side, their friends will lend an encouraging peck on the cheek, increasing the skill’s effect and dramatically lowering the skill cost. Performing special skills with the Lily Boost will also build up Lily Points, which will activate ultra-special moves and Goddess transformations. So mix and match your party and share the love — it’ll keep your party in tip-top shape! You’ll really need to make sure your party is ready for battle, because in this world, enemies aren’t the only ones out to get you — the battlefield itself is a place rife with danger! Fire pits, floating logs, electric slides (you’ll know it when you see it)… All of these things and more are scattered throughout your battle maps like flower petals from a particularly sadistic flower girl. You’ll have to plan out your line of movement a few steps ahead in order to avoid falling prey to such unforgiving terrain. One misstep and you’re charred moe in a pit. Not only that, but enemies can inflict all kinds of strange status effects on your party — you can be pixelated, zombie-fied, or even turned into a block of tofu! Each effect has its own benefit and cost, so maybe that bane is really a boon? So the world of Gamarket might look sweet and cuddly, but it’s really a non-stop fight for your life wrapped up in cuteness. 16. Hey there, Gary from Atomicom here with an update on Switch Galaxy Ultra. It’s one of the fastest reaction racers out there, and it launches on PlayStation Store next week Tuesday, just in time for the holiday season. We’re very proud to announce that the Charity Pack, which supports Caudwell Children, features licensed music from Nero, Chase & Status, Modestep, and Kove. All the proceeds from the sale of this pack go to help this amazing charity who support poor, sick, and disabled children, so please dig deep and help us support them by buying the pack. Being only a small team, we’re very proud of what we have achieved with the game, from its early origins on Android through to our critically acclaimed Switch Galaxy, which launched last year on PlayStation Mobile. Now there’s Switch Galaxy Ultra, which we can honestly say is one of the biggest undertakings we’ve made so far as a team. Both PS4 and PS Vita versions are running in super smooth 60 frames per second, with the PS4 version at 1080p and both supporting cross buy, cross play, and cross save, along with Online Multiplayer and tons of content. It’s an absolute bargain! You play as Vince Vance, one of the last remaining humans and one of Dakur’s best pilots. Head of Dakur Technology, Amur Ness, has tasked you to go out into the galaxy and collect the valuable element tantalum for Dakur to use in researching their new jump drive. The game features 55 action packed levels that get increasingly more difficult as the game progresses. There are speed-ups, teleporters, jumps, enemy ships, bombs, and much, much more. There are also challenges to take part in which are fiendishly hard and really get the adrenalin pumping. As you progress through the game you will unlock a total of 6 new ships, all fully upgradeable with new skins and stats. You’ll also be able to unlock comic content designed by WipEout’s original concept artist Darren Douglas. The comic is really amazing, and features mini episodes of Vince’s travels around the galaxy. So what are you waiting for? See you on the leaderboards. View the full article
  17. Hello there, Prinny Pals! Jordan from NIS America here to deliver unto you news the likes of which you have never heard before! In fall 2015, PS4 will be the exclusive home of Nippon Ichi Software’s latest entry in the fan-favorite Disgaea series! Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance brings together a completely new cast of characters to tell a tale of rebellion and revenge. As a new and terrible Overlord named Void Dark seeks to enslave the countless Netherworlds, one young demon has stood to end his reign — Killia. In Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, you will lead Killia and his tenacious army of rebels in their struggle against Dark Void. Along their dark path to vengeance, you will encounter more hilarious writing, over-the-top animations, and absurd damage numbers than anyone has seen in a Disgaea game. Ever. If you’ve been thirsting for quirky characters, intense strategy, tumultuously tall towers of teammates, stat numbers, and gameplay hours that approach infinity (sort of), all in one game, well… you’ll have to wait until Fall 2015. But then, my young Prinnies, your thirst for vengeance — or Disgaea — will be quenched. Until then, bide your time; we’ll be back with more sweet, sweet details on your path to vengeance soon. 19. Remember the time Alad V threatened the entire Solar System with revenge shortly after we discovered his secret ships filled with Infested Corpus? It didn’t seem like the best idea at the time, but then again when you’ve been kicked off the Corpus board and denied any chance of future Profit, what other options do you have? Besides getting a normal job that is. Blegh! Well after a few months of planning, Alad V has finally returned, and the results of his experimentation have been set loose upon us all. Brand new Infested machines are at his disposal, alongside rumors of a secret weapon that could even have Warframes at his twisted command. Sharpen those blades and ready your weapons, Tenno. The Mutalist Incursion has arrived. Operation: Mutalist Incursions Infested are invading the Solar System in unprecedented numbers, and with each passing day more nodes fall under Alad V’s influence. Fortunately we all know the solution to Infested is just a pinch of fire, liberally applied around the face, body, and limbs of any aggressive organism. Some Tenno have reported having success with other weapons, but why would you waste time shooting something when you could light it on fire instead? Either way, you’ll need to work together in order to keep Alad V’s forces under control. New Mutalist Incursion Alerts will reveal where the latest Infested forces have begun appearing, and Infested Invasions will be your only shot at getting the Nav Coordinates you’ll need to track down the source of this new threat. As Operation: Mutalist Incursion progresses, new Infested and Bounties will slowly be unlocked, each with their own unique rewards. Complete all bounties to unlock a special survival mission rewarding a brand new set of Puncture Mods! Not only that, but anyone who missed the Tethra’s Doom Mod set will have a chance to grab them as random drops throughout the bonus survival mission. New Warframe: Mesa While every Tenno is a master of gun and blade, the new Warframe Mesa chose to focus a little more on the gun side of things. This gunslinger is perfect for anyone who enjoys delivering punishment from afar. Charge up damage dealt to enemies into a single, powerful shot released on your command with Ballistic Battery while protecting yourself with Shatter Shield’s reflective damage barrier. Teammates can take advantage of Shooting Gallery’s unique damage buff that jumps from player-to-player while causing nearby enemies’ weapons to jam. Of course, if you’re tired of other Warframes challenging your gun-fu, then Peacemaker will show those pesky Boltor lovin Rhinos how it’s done. Drawing her Regulator pistols Mesa stands her ground, firing upon enemies as fast as you can pull the trigger. There’s just something satisfying about taking matters into your own hands. New Quest: Patient Zero Follow the trail of Infestation-riddled breadcrumbs as you attempt to track down Alad V amidst the chaos of his experiments running rampant. We’d call it a strategic, information-gathering espionage mission if it weren’t for all the screaming abominations trying to devour your flesh. All jokes aside, Patient Zero is a great way to learn a little bit of lore as well as meet the new Mutalist enemies. Completing Patient Zero is also a requirement gaining the blueprint for the Mutalist Alad V Assassination Key, required to take on the big man himself. New Enemies Alad V’s Mutalist creations are slowly creeping into the Solar System, each with their own unique contribution to the Infested cause. The Tar-Mutalist MOA and Swarm-Mutalist MOA both provide their own form of crowd control, respectively slowing Tenno with ranged goo-spit or blocking your vision with swarms of nanite clouds. Bolstering Infested ranks are the Brood Mother and Boiler; one overwhelms enemies with waves of smaller Maggots while the other creates spawning pods that erupt into new enemies when hit. If it all sounds kind of disgusting, that’s because it is. More importantly than that, these new Infested should alter the way you approach the melee-oriented abominations. Keep your friends close, and some high powered weaponry even closer. New Weapons Even if you’re not fortunate enough to have your own set of Regulator pistols like Mesa there are still plenty of new toys to get excited about. The long-awaited gunblade, the Redeemer, lets players cut through the opposition with sweeping chops and the occasional shotgun blast. That’s not to say we don’t have any new primary or sidearm weapons available. The Gammacor is the perfect weapon for any Tenno who thought using their hands to shoot concentrated laser beams was too much work. And anyone who enjoys Infested weaponry should find the Paracyst’s organic ordinance to be quite enjoyable; plus its secondary fire grappling hook is great for getting the upper hand on those heavy units that need the extra motivation to let you backstab them. The Dual Decurion rounds off our “brand new weapon list” by giving Archwing players some high powered twin-pistol sidearms to tear through space with. If you’re in the mood for some heavier Archwing weaponry there’s also the enormous Rathbone hammer and the long-range Archwing railgun, Velocitus. Joining these new weapons is a stance for the Redeemer, to help give those deadly swipes a bit of extra flair. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Redeemer Stance, High Noon, when killing Infested Brood Mothers during the event! Syndicate Weapons They may not be brand new, but these Syndicate weapons take a very cool twist on some existing tools of the Tenno trade. We know that you’re going to want to see which Syndicate offers which weapon ASAP, so to make things easier on you I’ve spent hours creating this in-depth bulleted list. Steel Meridian: Vaykor Marelok Arbiters of Hexis: Telos Akbolto Cephalon Suda: Synoid Gammacor Perrin Sequence: Secura Dual Cestra New Loka: Sancti Castanas Red Veil: Rakta Ballistica Phew! It’s important to know that each weapon has their own slight stat adjustment to better reflect the Syndicates unique tastes. Not only that, but Syndicate weapons are entirely tradeable with other Tenno provided you don’t rank up the weapon or use it in combat. Ice Planet Tileset It made a brief appearance in Operation: Cryotic Front, but Eris’ Ice Planet tileset is finally back and here to stay. Between the icy caverns and natural snowdrifts the Ice Planet brings a serene backdrop to all the shooting that goes on in the Solar System. Not that you’ll be improving that by doing missions here, but hey at least you can admire that beautiful sunset while watching your enemy become devoured alive by a corrosive Miasma? Exterior Liset Customization What good is being able to see the outside of your ship between missions if you can’t show off your stylish sense of fashion? Finally, you can show your allies and enemies the meaning of stealth while your hot pink Liset drops your yellow-and-purple space ninja deep into enemy territory undetected. A flood of new enemies, weapons and a Warframe known for its deadly marksmanship — Mesa Update has a little bit of something for everybody. And, everyone here at Digital Extremes is excited to see Tenno rise up to challenge this new Infested threat. So enjoy the Mutalist Incursion while you can, I get the feeling that Alad V’s grand plans probably won’t stand up to the full might of space ninja vengeance. View the full article

  22. It’s here, PlayStation fans! Greg Bauman here from Edge of Reality, and I’ve got good news: the guns are loaded, the sights are balanced, the explosives are primed, and the maps have been stain-proofed, which means Loadout will be ready to download and play today, for FREE, on PlayStation 4! Starting today, you and your friends can start assembling the guns of your (deeply disturbing) dreams, and begin a healthy debate over whose weapon is better at reducing whom to a bloody paste. Loadout has literally billions of gun combinations, and you can start trying them out on the nearest unsuspecting chump — for FREE. Really, if you’re trying to determine whether a laser-guided tesla missile will kill someone faster than a flaming death beam, the best method is to test for yourself, don’t you think? Speaking of trying things for yourself, I should remind you again that Loadout is Free-to-Play on PS4! You can download the game and start perfecting the art of self-expression via explosive projectiles just as soon as you can get to the PlayStation Store. What’s more, if you’re a PlayStation Plus member, you’ll also be able to express your allegiance loud and clear with our gift to you – the SuperFan Bonus Pack! All PS Plus members will get some in-game body paint in the classic PS4-themed blues and whites, sure to impress your friends and only irradiate your organs a little. While I’m on the topic of impressive blue things, today’s PS4 launch also marks the debut of our new Campaign mode! Which, in case I haven’t mentioned it, is also FREE. Just in time to meet all of you PlayStation fans, our game has been invaded by the vicious, deadly, and malodorous Kroad, an alien race that loves guns just as much as we do, but seems to hate everything else about us. Thankfully, you can band together with your friends and fight back using your human ingenuity and gigantic guns. Mostly your gigantic guns. Okay, entirely your gigantic guns. So, thanks for your patience, everyone, and enjoy Loadout on PS4. We can’t wait to see what really defines PlayStation fans on the inside! Is it blood and guts? We’re guessing it’s blood and guts, but we really do want to see for ourselves. Have fun! View the full article
  23. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- has arrived and we at Aksys Games couldn’t be more hyped! Exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 systems, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is one of Arc System Works’ greatest and most visually stunning fighting games, and we are proud to be publishing it in North America for fans everywhere! So what’s all this hype about you say? The Guilty Gear series has a long history, currently celebrating its 16th year in existence. During that time, it has built a reputation as one of the most fun, extreme, yet challenging fighting games to grace the video game world. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- reinvigorates the series, bringing back some classic mechanics and combining it with stunning visuals to make a truly unique experience for all. For beginners, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is a great way to dive into the series. Featuring an extensive tutorial mode as well as a myriad of challenging modes, it allows players to learn, in-depth, how to do even the most complex of moves. Players are rewarded with an array of crazy, high-flying, and sometimes positively wacky moves when a special attack input succeeds. Don’t believe me? Check out Faust’s instant kill! The hallmark of Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is its visuals. Built on Unreal Engine 3, Arc System Works implemented their classic 2D style into the world of 3D, allowing the camera to move freely during special attacks, dusts, and more. To get a truly good grasp of just how stunning these visuals are, check out the long list of modes available for the game, including story mode – it uses Guilty Gear’s in-game engine to advance its compelling storyline. Finally, for fans of this long running series, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-‘s fighting mechanics are back and have been enhanced to make gameplay even more fun and exciting. One of the classic mechanics, the Roman Cancel System, lets players effectively slow down time, allowing for multiple move inputs. Once unleashed, the player can do some pretty heavy damage. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is now available at retailers nationwide and on PSN. The Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Limited Edition will be available December 23, 2014. In addition, the DLC character Elphelt Valentine is currently available for free on PSN until 1/5. Other DLC include the (also unlockable) Sin and Leo Whitefang as well as voice and color packs. Expect more patch updates that will further enhance and improve on your Guilty Gear experience in the coming days! View the full article

  25. Hi, I’m Adrian Price, a producer at Ubisoft and I’m very happy to be able to give you a glimpse of what to expect in Tetris Ultimate for PS4. It’s been a privilege to have helped create the latest version of a title that practically everyone knows about. A year ago we started thinking about how and what we wanted the game to be and I think we’ve added some great features players are really going to enjoy. The game is filled with challenges that will reward you with Trophies. Some are quite difficult to get, but practice makes perfect. Then we have the ranking system where you are awarded ‘belts’, like in martial arts. I’ve been privileged enough to see a couple of people obtain a black-belt, and it’s quite an impressive sight to see how they play the game at the level they do. If you’re not able to play online, which is just one way of playing each of the six modes within the game, or want to practice your skills and get your own black-belt, we’ve given you the ability to play against the AI Tetribots. There are four of them and they range from the Apprentice — which even I can beat — to the Master Tetribot. If you can beat this guy even once, you know you’re up there among the greatest Tetris players. And then there’s my favorite mode: Battle Ultimate. Tetris can be played in a variety of different ways depending on who you are. You can play solo and try to beat your own scores, or compete with friends. Battle Ultimate brings a twist to the game with the introduction of power-ups. When used, they can level the playing field by clearing lines or showering your opponents with blocks to help you survive a little bit longer. That’s at least how I see it. The best Battle Ultimate match I’ve seen was here at the Ubisoft office where we were play-testing late one Friday afternoon. One of the creative directors lost because he was going to activate the Buzzsaw power-up, which clears lines from your matrix. He was also setting himself up to hard drop an “I†piece, giving himself a Tetris, which would have sent a lot of lines over to the other players. The problem was he was about two seconds too late and one of the other producers sent him a LOT of lines. His master plan to come back from the brink and have a glorious win was shattered. It was one of the finest displays I’ve seen of a grown man rage-quitting while playing Tetris Ultimate. That’s when I knew Battle Ultimate was going to be enjoyed by a lot of people. Of course he was straight back into it for just ‘one more go’. I think you’ll also enjoy playing Tetris Ultimate with your friends as much as we have, and on behalf of everyone that’s put the effort into developing this – thank you for reading. We look forward to playing you online! View the full article
