  1. Jungle Rumble is banging its way onto PS Vita… today! A ray of Rhythm-Puzzle sunshine beaming straight from the heart of the jungle, by curious route through the snowed in headquarters of Disco Pixel in blizzard-beseiged Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Jungle Rumble is a game where the player drums on the screen to control a tribe of monkeys. A rival tribe invades to steal bananas. The player drums on monkeys and drums on trees to swing those monkeys through those trees. The player drums on coconuts and drums on invaders to throw those coconuts. It’s a Rhythm-Puzzle game. Making Jungle Rumble happen has involved a lot of late nights by glowing screens, a lot of paying attention while new people playtested, and a lot of rethinking the assumptions of rhythm games. It has come a long way since a frigid night where I pitched the idea to Luigi Guatieri, who did the art. We started off trying to make monkeys as simple and iconic as we could. We experimented with what makes a face look like a monkey. Is it the ears? The hair surrounding everything? The wide mouth? We had long talks about the essence of “monkeynessâ€. It must have sounded very funny to other companies in our office engaged in more serious business! We ended up with a teddy bear sort of monkey. On the off chance it’s not totally obvious, I’m a huge fan of the look Rolito gave to Patapon. I’m a huge fan of the Paul Frank logo. This first attempt was cuddly and had a low fi charm. But it wasn’t iconic. It didn’t zing. And the outlined limbs looked bad when shrunk down enough to fit lots of them on screen. So we threw out the outlines. We amped up the fuzzy. We pondered the essence of monkeyness. We progressed to something simple that seemed to work in a game mockup. What worked was the silhouette. But the fuzziness looked awful when the character was small. So we simplified — we brainstormed removing the fuzz but kept the general silhouette. Now that looked pretty nifty. We could make variations for different tribes or enemy types that were instantly distinguishible. But what about where they lived? What should the jungle look like? We experimented with bright retro pixely. We experimented with super scary. We experimented with weirdly colorful. Being a jungle, bright sunshiny colors were key. Places monkeys can move to need to be clearly visible. We liked broad outlines and bold shapes. So we mocked up some screens. We grew to detest putting tufts of leaves in a grid—it wasn’t organic like a jungle would be. That tree is huge! But it’s too big for the screen. Hmm… Maybe the camera could move during the game to allow for large swaths of jungle? That way there could be massive trees to climb This direction seemed to work. We made parts of the jungle full of misty waterfalls, which you could then approach. We made dank, dark regions to stumble upon and explore. We were in awe of the jungle. We hope everyone likes it! 2. Hola, PlayStation fans! Today we’re excited to talk to you about infamous city-builder and political sim Tropico 5, which arrives on new-generation consoles later this year exclusively on PS4. This is actually the first time Tropico has ever been released on a PlayStation platform before, and to welcome the PlayStation community to Tropico 5, we’d like to introduce you to the world of Tropico and its lovable dictator El Presidente. Our beloved leader El Prez is aware that some people may not have had the pleasure of ruling over their own island republic as an iron-fisted dictator before, so he’s humbly asked us (ordered us) to prepare a list of 9 useful tips on how to rule in Tropico 5. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to be a gruesome tyrant or leader of social justice, but staying in power is no easy feat. So have a read of the list below and ask us any questions about the game in the comments! 1.) Build Your Dream MetropolisAs Presidente, it’s up to you to develop the island as you see fit, but sometimes you need to rein in your crazier ambitions. Ask yourself: is an economy based on pineapple farms sustainable? Cheap housing may sound cost-effective, but unhappy citizens love to rebel — and usually with guns. 2.) Get to Know the Different Political FactionsKeep your friends close, and your enemies so close you’re exchanging fashion tips. It’s essential to understand who wants what on your island — or face game over after being voted out of power. Know your capitalists from your communists. 3.) Trade = $$$Developing industry is important for the growth of your city, and while you might be pleased with a booming llama wool industry, it’s not time to celebrate yet. Use the Trade menu to organise even more lucrative export deals. 4.) Keep It In the FamilyThe dynasty mechanic lets you keep it in the family and utilize your loved-ones for political gain. Outmaneuver rivals and take advantage of unique character traits for bonus effects on your island. 5.) Manipulate the National ConstitutionDepending on what kind of Presidente you are, the constitution can be written to promote democracy — or restrict the rights of the people. Each constitution point has certain effects, so use them to determine your governmental strategy. 6.) Read the Almanac for Important InfoThe all-knowing Almanac stat menu provides every bit of info you need to know about your city and its people. Use this knowledge to improve their quality of life and get more votes! 7.) Rule Across TimeTropico 5 introduces different eras for you to rule across and each one comes with its own challenges. Keep an eye on what changes through the years: quaint colonial shacks probably won’t be all the rage in 2015… 8.) Mess With the Rules in Sandbox & MultiplayerUse sandbox mode to challenge yourself and create even wackier scenarios than in the campaign. Mess with the rules, see what happens and subject unlucky friends to your craziest ideas in 4-person multiplayer. 9.) Sit Back and Admire Your HandiworkTropico 5 for PS4 is rendered in full 1080p with intuitive DualShock4 controls and even Vita Remote Play support: so it’s perfect for those long living room sessions. Tropico is also famous for its sense of humor and flavorsome Latina soundtrack — so sit back, have fun, and enjoy ruling however you like. The island is yours, Presidente. We’ll have more updates and content on Tropico 5 coming up over the next few weeks. For now though, remember! Vote El Presidente…or else. View the full article

  5. Hello PlayStation fam, Dominic Matthews from Ninja Theory here. With the PS4 launch of DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition just about a month away, I wanted to give you some more details on one of the game’s most requested new features: Vergil’s Bloody Palace. Watch the video on YouTube at 1080p and 60 frames per second! Vergil is a huge favorite amongst Devil May Cry fans. It will come as no surprise to you that when DmC was originally released, one of the most requested features for the game was a Bloody Palace mode just for Vergil. When we knew we were getting the chance to create a new definitive edition of DmC, one of the first things on our list was to give the fans the mode that they seemed to want more than any other. Vergil’s Bloody Palace is a 60-floor combat arena. Unlike Dante’s Bloody Palace, where the difficulty progresses through the 5 main difficulty levels, Vergil’s Bloody palace starts on Nephilim difficulty for the first 20 waves, moves onto Son of Sparda difficulty, and ends with 20 waves of very challenging Vergil Must Die difficulty combat. Bloody Palace is traditionally a very difficult challenge to complete and Vergil’s own take on the mode is no different. The best way to play Vergil is to stack up as many kinds of damage as possible. He has lots of attacks which skilled players can layer with his melee moves. For example, Summoned Swords can be fired, and can pull enemies or lift enemies, without interrupting melee attacks. Spiral Swords passively damages enemies once activated, until it wears off. Doppelganger Vergil can be used to attack at the same time as you, or with a delay. When you layer everything up, you can hit with three or four attacks at a time, which is when Vergil is doing the most damage. Of course Devil May Cry is not just about killing enemies but also about how you kill them. Some stylish moves I recommend trying out are jump cancelling with the Killer Bee and following up an Atomic with a Solar Flare. Loads of damage and loads of style! One of the greatest pleasures that I get from working on DmC is watching the awesome combo videos that people create with the game. We’ve seen players do things with the combo system that we didn’t even think were possible. I can’t wait to see videos of what players are able to achieve with DmC: Definitive Edition and in particular Vergil’s Bloody Palace. The game will be available both on disc at retail and as a digital download on March 10 for PS4 for $39.99. View the full article

  10. Fatshark is proud to announce Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, a game we’ve been working hard on for the past two years. We’ve been wanting to make a Warhammer game since a group of us at Fatshark started playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle together in our spare time back in 2004. At the time, we lacked the experience and the team to build a game that we felt would live up to our dreams. After having worked on a number of games and watched the team grow in size, we finally set out to build our most ambitious game to date in an IP that we are incredibly passionate about. Vermintide is a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer Fantasy universe. The game takes place in and around Ubersreik, a city overrun by Skaven. Players will assume the role of one of five heroes, each featuring different play-styles, abilities, gear and personality. Working cooperatively, players must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from the hordes of relentless rat-men, known as the Skaven. Battles will take place across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire. Working with Games Workshop has been a dream come true as well as an absolute joy. Vermintide will be published by Fatshark and so we retain a lot of creative control in building the game we want to make. Additionally, we work tightly with Games Workshop to ensure that the right Warhammer feel is accomplished. This has helped ensure that our vision of Warhammer aligns with theirs. It helps us feel confident that our game really looks and feels Warhammer – something that is incredibly important to us. Having built titles like War of the Roses in the past has taught us a great deal about working with melee combat, and we are building Vermintide to be a first person game that handles both ranged and melee combat in a viscerally impressive manner. We always knew we wanted Vermintide to be a cooperative experience and have designed every aspect of the game to coincide with this vision. Everything from the loot system to the narrative is built to enhance the co-op. It’s a game about surviving to the end with your friends. We hope you’re as excited about the game as we are! 12. Hello outlaws! The team here at Switchblade Monkeys is thrilled to announce The Hunting Ground, our first major content drop for Secret Ponchos coming to your PS4 February 17th, 2015. Our goal is to keep the game evolving and growing over time, so it keeps getting better and better. What’s in this expansion?A lot! With The Hunting Ground update we aimed to make sure we provide content for everyone: those who want to support us in expanding the game by purchasing some DLC, and our players who just love Secret Ponchos and want free new content. New ContentWe learned a lot from community feedback since the PS+ launch of our game, and we’ve been working hard on many improvements. Being a tiny indie team, we aimed to putout a game that’s fun and deep, but to do that it would have to start small. One of the things we heard the most is “more contentâ€, so we took that to heart and here it is! Included are 2 new maps – for FREE. Additionally, our artists wanted to show a gesture of appreciation for our community, and have built a custom exclusive unlockable skin as a special reward for our community as a thank you for supporting us and playing the game. In addition to the free content, for those who want to support us there will be 2 new Purchasable playable Outlaws that make their debut! FixesWe’ve been listening and working very closely with the community in our Secret Ponchos forums, and we’ve implemented many tuning/balancing improvements. We’ve also learned that we needed stronger support for new players, so we’ve started implementing improvements such as creating a basic in-game tutorial to get new players started and moving Practice mode (with the outlaw move-sheets) to be front and center. “Hunting Ground†– 2 New Maps IncludedEveryone will get two free maps, increasing our total level count to six. Creatively we tried to push these maps to offer new dynamics to the Secret Ponchos environments. Plaza A classic, battle-torn Spaghetti Western Mexican-style plaza. This is a smaller map, resulting in high-tension combat. Players can battle outside or take fights into smaller buildings. Teams can break off and regroup, and the interiors loop around back to the central open area. The Mines The Mines provide a vastly different experience from Secret Ponchos’ other levels. They combine confined narrow tunnels with an open area, creating a multitude of player opportunities for tactical battles. New Outlaws! We are proud to introduce two new purchasable DLC Outlaws in “The Hunting Groundâ€: Gordo & The Wolf. Following our tradition of ensuring each Outlaw plays as different as they look, these two with their unique mechanics expand our diverse cast from 5 to 7. The new Outlaws are available for purchase, and our goal is to use DLC proceeds to fund development of more content moving forward. These in-game purchases are the best way for the community to support the games growth. And for those reluctant to make purchases, these Outlaws will still add a lot of fun to the game for you because you’ll have a richer variety of enemies and teammates. Gordo Gordo’s development was put on hold last year as we switched the game Engines, and we’re super happy to have him back because he is just an insane archetype. A vile and vicious bandit, Gordo makes his way to claim Lonetree. Armed with a high-powered Gatling, Gordo is able to cut his enemies down from a distance. Gordo also comes to battle with a Molotov, and can block off parts of the map by leaving huge splashes of persistent flames, and he can even pour a trail of fire behind him to further control the environment. The Wolf The Wolf was a lot of fun to work on. We wanted to make her feel focused and deadly. It was a lot of fun to figure out how to build archery mechanics into Secret Ponchos, and her wolf stance animations especially were so much fun to work on. The Wolf is a deadly predator rumored to prowl near the town of Lonetree. Hunting enemies, she deals devastating critical hits as her arrows pierce her enemies. She can switch to “Wolf Stance†moving with great agility to pounce, tackling enemies for the kill with a bone knife. The Wolf is awesome for a technical player, who can take advantage of skill shots with her bow and land critical hits. Thank you everyone for being part of our Secret Ponchos community, and helping us grow the game from its infancy stages. It’s been a crazy experience for an indie team to launch a game into the competitive multiplayer space, and we really hope to continue improving and growing the game. Stay tuned as Feb 17 “The Hunting Ground†debuts exclusively on PS4. As we get closer we will announce more about our Secret Ponchos contest for our Generation 1 users, and more info on the new content. View the full article
  13. Want to play one of the most well-known, bestselling games in the history of gaming? Q*Bert is back — for your PS4, PS3 and Vita. The complete, original version of Q*Bert is only half of the equation. Gonzo Games, Sideline Amusements, Games Production Company, and we here at LOOT Entertainment are also bringing to PlayStation a completely reimagined Q*Bert game: Q*Bert Rebooted. To keep it short and sweet: you get two great Q*Bert games (on all three PlayStation platforms) for the price of one. So: how do you take such a classically perfect game design and successfully modernize it? Instead of cubes, Q*Bert Rebooted features hexagons. That may not sound like a game-changer, but it is; suddenly, you get some really interesting level designs, especially later in the game. In addition, there are new features, such as time and score challenges, new enemies with their own unique behaviors, new playable characters, power-ups, traps, and gem-collecting. Q*Bert Rebooted is the equivalent of your old backyard treehouse refurbished by Bob Vila: same nostalgic joy, but magically just better. Everything that was awesome is still awesome. Q*Bert endures because, like all of the best designs from that era, it’s straightforward, memorable, and timelessly challenging. Whether you played it yesterday or thirty years ago, Q*Bert classic is just as engaging as it was when it came out. This is the genuine classic arcade version of Q*Bert! Q*Bert Rebooted will have you on your toes as you try to figure out the complex maps while the screen throws all sorts of enemies at you. Q*Bert is HARD. Not artificially, stupidly, punish-you-just-to-add-replay-time hard — just challenging enough for the casual user to enjoy and engaging enough for the serious gamer who wants bragging rights. Remember when you had to really hone your skills because every go ‘round cost a quarter? Sometimes the most “casual†games are the ones which, frankly, are for the truly hardcore. 14. Hello again, everyone. Following up on my post announcing that Super Stardust Ultra was coming to PS4 (which you can read here), it gives me great pleasure to let you all know that it will be available to download next week on February 10th. I can also confirm that Super Stardust Ultra supports 3D at full 60 frames per second! We think this is something that you’ll want to show to friends and family, it really does add an extra dimension to an already unique and great looking game. Super Stardust Ultra is packed with incredible depth and variety, from five newly designed planets and other visual enhancements, to nine different single-player game modes. Some of which are brand new, only on PS4. One of these modes is Blockade. As if blasting through hazardous meteor storms or fighting off enemy spacecraft wasn’t difficult enough, you now have to avoid an endless trail of deadly mines that are continually dropped from the back of your Star fighter. The twist however is that everything else on the planet is also destroyed if it makes contact with the mines, so they can be used to your advantage and timing your bombs or boost is critical to staying alive. If you think you have the skills, then check out Interactive Streaming which not only allows you to broadcast your gameplay but also opens up your world, allowing your viewers to decide what happens next. The vote can range from a full onslaught of chaos, to a much needed helpful care package….you have been warned. There’s always plenty to achieve in Super Stardust Ultra, whether you are hunting Trophies in pursuit of the Platinum, or blasting your way to the top of the global leader boards. Competing against friends has never been easier, whether sending direct challenges or playing 2-4 player local split-screen battles — even teaming up in co-op mode. All this will be available on PlayStation Store for $12.99; PS Plus subscribers will receive an additional 20% discount for a period of 1 week after launch, so make sure to pick up Super Stardust Ultra next week! 15. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin on PS4 adds the expected technical improvements, but also remixes core gameplay elements to give veterans a reason to dive back in. The jump to PS4 has given developer FromSoftware an opportunity to paint a more pleasing picture. The native 1080p resolution, upgraded lighting effects, and cinematic filters give the game a richer, cleaner look compared to the PS3 version. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin | PlayStation.com But the biggest improvement comes from the improved frame rate — 60 frames per second according to Bandai Namco representatives. The increased fluidity translates into more responsive movement and combat, a major advantage considering the game’s famously unforgiving difficulty. Then there are the gameplay adjustments. You won’t be able to rely on your memory to cakewalk the PS4 game because some enemies and item locations have been changed. Enemies will follow you more tenaciously, even through fog gates — a terrifying, potentially ruinous side effect of PS4’s expanded RAM pool. Some weapons are also being tweaked. I noticed that the Fire Long Sword, a powerful early-game weapon that saved my butt countless times on PS3, seemed to be way less durable in this version. In other cases, a producer told me, weapons that were largely overlooked may be easier to find, or be adjusted in other ways. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin on PS4 also includes all previously released Dark Souls II content expansions: Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King, and Crown of the Ivory King, so there will be no shortage of things to do and monsters to kill. All in all, I was pleased with the refinements and look forward to dipping my toe back into the cursed world of Drangleic this April — just as soon as I’m done with Bloodborne. 17. Yes! The Order: 1886 is done! From a grand idea flickering in Ru’s disturbingly creative noggin it was imagined, developed and thus realized with love and care by a small team of immature, somewhat unstable, naively optimistic artists and engineers here at Ready At Dawn Studios. The Order: 1886 | PlayStation.com The early days of development on The Order: 1886 were some of the most exciting of our professional careers. PS4 was still an evolving set of specifications, but it was obvious from the beginning that Sony was going to push the limit of what one could expect from a home console. We knew that the generational leap in terms of visual, audio and simulation fidelity would be remarkable. We needed an equally ambitious set of goals for the technology we were developing for our game. We set on creating everything from scratch, with the goal of realizing the unrestrained vision of our artists by innovating in the areas of image fidelity, shading, illumination, volumetric effects and simulation techniques. It was a huge challenge, but at the end we succeeded in more areas than we failed, so it was all worth it. We have created a meaningful foundation, a technological canvas for our artists and designers to grow unbound – who knows what they will come up with in the future. As a “well-seasoned†developer (sigh…) I am in awe that a game running on a home console can offer the player an audiovisual experience like The Order: 1886 does. The technological barriers are crumbling, the scope of our imagination is soon to be the main limiting factor to realizing one’s vision. It is a great time to be making games! If you’d like to know more about the technology behind The Order, please enjoy our latest “Behind The Scenes†video at the top of this post – come February 20th you will forget all about textile shading and volumetric air resistance and just immerse yourself in the world of The Order: 1886. We hope you’ll love it. View the full article
  18. Hey everyone! It’s so awesome to be able to share a bit of the background story behind Shiftlings with you, because, yeah, the game actually has one! The prototype for Shiftlings was born during a Game Jam competition here in Norway. Due to holiday, vacation and family (ahem…) interference, we only had five days instead of ten to come up with an idea to fit the theme of “Size Matters.†So our first task was obviously to get the game design and core mechanics in place. However, we were always quite adamant that there should be a reason why you would want to go through any level, even if that specific reason (and its conclusion) would only be revealed at a later point in the game. After all, solving puzzles just for the heck of it is not really incredibly interesting. Once we had the heart of the game in place, we wanted to make sure everything around that core made sense and gave the mechanics meaning. We took some inspiration from our favorite game shows to create the framework for our game. Many shows have cheeky narrators with vibrant commentary, not always done in the nicest way, and it quite obviously comes at the expense of the competitors. We wanted to leverage this idea to create Zookod, our version of that narrator — the host of the multi-galactic reality TV show the game is set in. The TV show in question is called (You guessed it!) “Shiftlings,†which is one of the (many) reasons we went with that title for the game. Our two doofuses are completely oblivious to the fact that their every step, hop, and tumble is watched and commented on. They simply believe they are doing their jobs as WePlanet Janitors, whereas in fact they are the main attraction. Or, to be precise, their actions are. As players, you are controlling the Shiftlings on their various tasks, but at the same time you are also part of the audience that enjoys their failings. Zookod can be encouraging sometimes, but he is not the nicest guy — he doesn’t have to be, after all. It’s all about those numbers, right? The TV show is fun to watch, but at the same time, it’s also a nice reminder that watching others be made fun of is what a lot of entertainment is built upon. So the frame is supposed to be both entertaining but also a bit of a reminder that it can be unfair and cruel at times. Zookod also acts as a link between the different worlds, transitioning you from one planet to another, offering some background information and other tidbits about the places you’ll be playing in. He even drops a few hints here and there that there’s some bigger purpose to the work you (and the Shiftlings) are doing through each level… but, hey, SPOILERS! The rest, well… that’s for you to find out soon! Shiftlings will be available to download on PS4 this March. We’ll be checking out the comments below, so let us know if you have any questions! 19. Small Radios Big Televisions is a game I’ve been working on since last summer. It’s built out of my love for games, analog mechanicals, and music. I’m also proud to tell you that it will be coming to PS4. The game is about exploration, finding old data cassettes strewn through the insides of old factories, and discovering the worlds you find inside. The aim is to make an experience that borrows some of the “softness†of analog media and put that into a modern console title. In Small Radios Big Televisions your main goal is to find cassettes and slam ‘em into your tape deck. Your tape deck is different, though. Instead of just playing audio, these tapes contain entirely different worlds for you to explore. This idea came about when I was thinking (in light of the recent virtual reality explosion), “What if you could put on a virtual reality album the same way you do with a music album, or a movie?†The tapes in the game are tapes for a reason, too. Unlike a compact disc or a memory card the magnetic tape inside a cassette can easily be warped by magnetic fields. If you come across a strong magnetic device, why not stick one of your tapes in and see what happens? Music and sound design are a massive part of the game as well. I want it to feel like you’re hearing the soundtrack played back through an old tape deck with big bass-y headphones. All the music in the game is synthesized and bare-bones to manage that retrowave feel. Bringing a strange game like this to a console like PlayStation 4 is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I’m really excited to bring it to all of you. Let me know what you think in the comments below, or ask me questions if you’ve got them! View the full article

  23. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s King Oddball! The quirky physics puzzler that has charmed gamers on PS4 and Vita is making its way to PS3 today. It comes with a free trial, so you should really check it out! As the title suggests, King Oddball is a bit weird. It’s a physics-based puzzle game, but not like any you’ve played before. The gameplay is intensely skill based, and executed entirely with a single button. Here’s how it works: The titular King Oddball swings a rock with his tongue, back and forth, like a pendulum. When you hit X, the rock is released. The rock will carry whatever momentum it had at the exact moment you hit the button, so depending on your timing you’ll get a mighty hurl or a delicate drop. From then on it’s all about the physics. Will you overshoot the tank? Will you just miss the helicopter? Your timing needs to be very, very good. And that only takes you through the levels where you have a couple of enemies to crush. When there’s a lot of enemies or structures to destroy, you need to layer in the puzzle part. You will get an extra rock if you squash three or more enemies with a single rock, or if you bounce the rock back to your head. Neither of which are very easy feats, as the rock will blast off from anything that explodes. And bouncing the rock from chopper to tank to soldier is exactly what you need to achieve to make the numbers add up. We feel we managed to combine the skill puzzle and brain puzzle parts amazingly well with King Oddball. Many gamers agree, according to the feedback we’ve had about the game — its addictive qualities, eccentric art style, awesome accordion soundtrack and whatnot. If you’re even vaguely into these types of games, or want to see if there can be any depth to a single button gameplay mechanic, give King Oddball a go. View the full article
  24. Hi everyone! Vincent and Laurens here again. We almost can’t believe we’re actually writing this, but Kick & Fennick is out today on PlayStation Store. It’s been a crazy adventure, and our greatest challenge yet. But, we’re finally here, and we made a new trailer, so check it out! As you can see in the trailer, Kick & Fennick is a game about a little boy with a very big gun. Any normal boy would leave the gun for the big kids to play with, but when our heroes meet and Fennick saves Kick from trouble, they notice Fennick’s energy core is broken and embark on an adventure to the Core Tower in search of a new battery. Besides shooting down any robot that gets in their way, Kick can make huge jumps by using the gun’s powerful recoil. Whenever Kick fires the weapon, it will send him flying into the opposite direction! This opens up tons of opportunities for cool platforming challenges. On your quest to help Fennick, you’ll encounter many obstacles to overcome, such as treadmills, magnets, bouncy pads, teleporters, and a huge menacing robot that just doesn’t want to leave you alone! With Kick & Fennick we aimed to make a relaxing and fun platformer, a bit different than some of the frantic platformers that are out there. We describe it as “smooth and easygoing.†That doesn’t mean it’s easy — you’ll have to carefully aim your shots if you want to overcome the challenges thrown in your way, but we wanted Kick & Fennick to be a non frustrating experience that gently ramps up the challenge. Fennick plays a part in that too, as his ability to respawn you instantly makes sure you can retry any missed jump within seconds, as long as Fennick has enough power left. Apart from the challenges ramping up smoothly, we’ve also spent a lot of time on the movement mechanics, with satisfying jumping physics and lots of animations to make your moves look and feel just right. We’ve mentioned before that we’re big fans of animation, so we wanted to include a little story that shows our passion there. Even though it’s a small story, a lot of work went into the animations — not in the least part because we really like doing it — and it was quite a challenge, so we hope you enjoy it! It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster ride since the last time we posted here, especially the last few weeks, so we would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who helped make all this possible. Jonathan van den Wijngaarden, our composer and one of our best friends, who made all the music and sound effects and believed in us from the start of the project almost 3 years ago. (Sorry for taking so long!) The guys from Abstraction Games as well, our long time friends and colleagues who helped bring the game to Vita and went above and beyond in the final push to release. We also want to thank all of you here on Playstation.Blog and all the people who kept sending us emails asking about the game. Your comments, feedback and emails have meant a lot to us and gave us the energy to push through the more difficult moments. Most importantly though, we have to mention how much our friends and family played a part in getting Kick & Fennick across the finish line. Without their love and support we would have crashed and burned a long time ago. We’re are extremely excited (And terrified!) to see what you think of the game and hope you have a great time playing it! As always we’ll stick around for any questions you might have. Thank you all! –Vincent and Laurens View the full article
  25. Your team is being decimated. Everyone’s down to 10 HP or less. But there’s hope, one more slash and the enemy’s toast. Kisaragi has the initiative so you tell her to attack. This is it… “I don’t want to, and you can’t make me!†Wait. What? Not really what you expect to hear when you ask your teammate to do something in an RPG, is it? Criminal Girls: Invite Only reimagines the obedient teams of traditional RPGs under a new paradigm. These girls didn’t volunteer to help you. They’re delinquents who have been damned to an eternity in Hell. It’s your job to teach them the value of hard work and guide them on their way out of the fiery embrace of Hell. So who are the sinful girls you’ll be turning into a cohesive and heavenly team? Let’s meet them. Kisaragi is the first firebrand in your troupe. From the get-go, her obsession with status and money are apparent. Her tongue is sharp, and her words can turn to venom. Turned in the right direction though, she can be a great asset to your team. Alice is the quiet one. To call her mysterious would be an understatement. Constant whispers beneath her breath, half-spoken sentences, and allusions to things that could be illusion or real. Looking into her seemingly vacant eyes could be enough to give the most stalwart man chills. Tomoe is the type of girl I dreamed of in the heady days of puberty, and she knows it. Her words make people dance like puppets, and she seems to always get what she wants. Though her body looks soft, she’s tough enough to break you in two, and isn’t afraid to slice and dice if you’re not nice. Shin is unashamedly my favorite. She’s smart and a hardcore gamer at heart. Her MMORPG mastery makes her excellent at strategizing, but unfortunately, she’s the type to rage-quit. Teaching her inner calm could just make her the most useful member of a coordinated team. Sako tends to border on the overbearing. She’s constantly looking out for her sister, Yuko, and can turn into a little ball of rage when something threatens either of them or their relationship. If you get her to calm down, maybe her fiery temper could be guided in a more useful direction. Yuko is a nurturer by nature. She’s grown up worrying for her sister and making sure that everything’s okay. Unfortunately, she’s also the laziest girl I’ve ever met. Not exactly who I’d want to be taking care of my ailing Grandpa, if you know what I mean. If she were a bit more motivated, I bet she’d be great at giving sponge-baths though. Ran doesn’t quite run the show, but does run over people. She might have been the leader of her local chapter of the MMA club when she was alive, so it’ll take some work to get past the defensive walls she’s built up, but it’s well worth it. Each member of your team has their own personality and unique backstory to uncover. Why are they condemned to Hell? What are the sins you must help them atone? Discover each woman’s unique past as you guide them through the Reformation Program tomorrow. Consider this your invite. For more information, check out the official site. View the full article
