  1. Hey everyone! It’s so awesome to be able to share a bit of the background story behind Shiftlings with you, because, yeah, the game actually has one! The prototype for Shiftlings was born during a Game Jam competition here in Norway. Due to holiday, vacation and family (ahem…) interference, we only had five days instead of ten to come up with an idea to fit the theme of “Size Matters.†So our first task was obviously to get the game design and core mechanics in place. However, we were always quite adamant that there should be a reason why you would want to go through any level, even if that specific reason (and its conclusion) would only be revealed at a later point in the game. After all, solving puzzles just for the heck of it is not really incredibly interesting. Once we had the heart of the game in place, we wanted to make sure everything around that core made sense and gave the mechanics meaning. We took some inspiration from our favorite game shows to create the framework for our game. Many shows have cheeky narrators with vibrant commentary, not always done in the nicest way, and it quite obviously comes at the expense of the competitors. We wanted to leverage this idea to create Zookod, our version of that narrator — the host of the multi-galactic reality TV show the game is set in. The TV show in question is called (You guessed it!) “Shiftlings,†which is one of the (many) reasons we went with that title for the game. Our two doofuses are completely oblivious to the fact that their every step, hop, and tumble is watched and commented on. They simply believe they are doing their jobs as WePlanet Janitors, whereas in fact they are the main attraction. Or, to be precise, their actions are. As players, you are controlling the Shiftlings on their various tasks, but at the same time you are also part of the audience that enjoys their failings. Zookod can be encouraging sometimes, but he is not the nicest guy — he doesn’t have to be, after all. It’s all about those numbers, right? The TV show is fun to watch, but at the same time, it’s also a nice reminder that watching others be made fun of is what a lot of entertainment is built upon. So the frame is supposed to be both entertaining but also a bit of a reminder that it can be unfair and cruel at times. Zookod also acts as a link between the different worlds, transitioning you from one planet to another, offering some background information and other tidbits about the places you’ll be playing in. He even drops a few hints here and there that there’s some bigger purpose to the work you (and the Shiftlings) are doing through each level… but, hey, SPOILERS! The rest, well… that’s for you to find out soon! Shiftlings will be available to download on PS4 this March. We’ll be checking out the comments below, so let us know if you have any questions! 2. Small Radios Big Televisions is a game I’ve been working on since last summer. It’s built out of my love for games, analog mechanicals, and music. I’m also proud to tell you that it will be coming to PS4. The game is about exploration, finding old data cassettes strewn through the insides of old factories, and discovering the worlds you find inside. The aim is to make an experience that borrows some of the “softness†of analog media and put that into a modern console title. In Small Radios Big Televisions your main goal is to find cassettes and slam ‘em into your tape deck. Your tape deck is different, though. Instead of just playing audio, these tapes contain entirely different worlds for you to explore. This idea came about when I was thinking (in light of the recent virtual reality explosion), “What if you could put on a virtual reality album the same way you do with a music album, or a movie?†The tapes in the game are tapes for a reason, too. Unlike a compact disc or a memory card the magnetic tape inside a cassette can easily be warped by magnetic fields. If you come across a strong magnetic device, why not stick one of your tapes in and see what happens? Music and sound design are a massive part of the game as well. I want it to feel like you’re hearing the soundtrack played back through an old tape deck with big bass-y headphones. All the music in the game is synthesized and bare-bones to manage that retrowave feel. Bringing a strange game like this to a console like PlayStation 4 is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I’m really excited to bring it to all of you. Let me know what you think in the comments below, or ask me questions if you’ve got them! View the full article

  5. It’s here. The Battlefield Hardline open multiplayer beta is available on both PS4 and PS3 today. If you have PlayStation Plus, all you have to do is hit up PlayStation Store and download the free beta (exact availability times vary by region and content refresh schedule). Now, I’m a “get to the point†kinda guy, so here’s what you can expect during the next six days of beta. Battlefield Hardline Open Multiplayer Beta Dates: February 3rd to February 8th*. Three Different Maps and Modes including: Hotwire and Conquest Modes on Dust Bowl, Hotwire Mode on Downtown, and Heist Mode on Bank Job. Play Hacker Mode for the first time — Similar to Commander in Battlefield 4, this mode allows players to take control over security cameras, spot enemies and specify areas on the battlefield for their team to attack or defend. Exclusive BF4 Dog Tag – If you have a BF4 account and try out the Battlefield Hardline beta, the Hardline Dog Tag will be unlocked in the next patch for BF4 for you to proudly wear in-game. As you hit the streets in one of the muscle cars in Hotwire mode, defend or jack the vault in Heist, or throw down in classic Conquest, we want to hear about what you like or don’t like about your game experiences. You can voice all your feedback and suggestions on the Battlefield Hardline Forums. Hardline is all about heated exchanges and chaotic Battlefield moments, and we want to see them. Share your in-game insanity by using the Battlefield Hardline theme in ShareFactory. Tag your clips with #BFHTopPlay when you post and you might get featured on one of Battlefield’s official channels. No more waiting. Whet those appetites in Open Beta for the full deal that launches on March 17th. Get the latest Battlefield Hardline news with new updates every Wednesday from now to launch. *The beta will be available February 4th through 8th in Japan on PS4 and PS3. View the full article
  6. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s King Oddball! The quirky physics puzzler that has charmed gamers on PS4 and Vita is making its way to PS3 today. It comes with a free trial, so you should really check it out! As the title suggests, King Oddball is a bit weird. It’s a physics-based puzzle game, but not like any you’ve played before. The gameplay is intensely skill based, and executed entirely with a single button. Here’s how it works: The titular King Oddball swings a rock with his tongue, back and forth, like a pendulum. When you hit X, the rock is released. The rock will carry whatever momentum it had at the exact moment you hit the button, so depending on your timing you’ll get a mighty hurl or a delicate drop. From then on it’s all about the physics. Will you overshoot the tank? Will you just miss the helicopter? Your timing needs to be very, very good. And that only takes you through the levels where you have a couple of enemies to crush. When there’s a lot of enemies or structures to destroy, you need to layer in the puzzle part. You will get an extra rock if you squash three or more enemies with a single rock, or if you bounce the rock back to your head. Neither of which are very easy feats, as the rock will blast off from anything that explodes. And bouncing the rock from chopper to tank to soldier is exactly what you need to achieve to make the numbers add up. We feel we managed to combine the skill puzzle and brain puzzle parts amazingly well with King Oddball. Many gamers agree, according to the feedback we’ve had about the game — its addictive qualities, eccentric art style, awesome accordion soundtrack and whatnot. If you’re even vaguely into these types of games, or want to see if there can be any depth to a single button gameplay mechanic, give King Oddball a go. View the full article
  7. Hi everyone! Vincent and Laurens here again. We almost can’t believe we’re actually writing this, but Kick & Fennick is out today on PlayStation Store. It’s been a crazy adventure, and our greatest challenge yet. But, we’re finally here, and we made a new trailer, so check it out! As you can see in the trailer, Kick & Fennick is a game about a little boy with a very big gun. Any normal boy would leave the gun for the big kids to play with, but when our heroes meet and Fennick saves Kick from trouble, they notice Fennick’s energy core is broken and embark on an adventure to the Core Tower in search of a new battery. Besides shooting down any robot that gets in their way, Kick can make huge jumps by using the gun’s powerful recoil. Whenever Kick fires the weapon, it will send him flying into the opposite direction! This opens up tons of opportunities for cool platforming challenges. On your quest to help Fennick, you’ll encounter many obstacles to overcome, such as treadmills, magnets, bouncy pads, teleporters, and a huge menacing robot that just doesn’t want to leave you alone! With Kick & Fennick we aimed to make a relaxing and fun platformer, a bit different than some of the frantic platformers that are out there. We describe it as “smooth and easygoing.†That doesn’t mean it’s easy — you’ll have to carefully aim your shots if you want to overcome the challenges thrown in your way, but we wanted Kick & Fennick to be a non frustrating experience that gently ramps up the challenge. Fennick plays a part in that too, as his ability to respawn you instantly makes sure you can retry any missed jump within seconds, as long as Fennick has enough power left. Apart from the challenges ramping up smoothly, we’ve also spent a lot of time on the movement mechanics, with satisfying jumping physics and lots of animations to make your moves look and feel just right. We’ve mentioned before that we’re big fans of animation, so we wanted to include a little story that shows our passion there. Even though it’s a small story, a lot of work went into the animations — not in the least part because we really like doing it — and it was quite a challenge, so we hope you enjoy it! It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster ride since the last time we posted here, especially the last few weeks, so we would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who helped make all this possible. Jonathan van den Wijngaarden, our composer and one of our best friends, who made all the music and sound effects and believed in us from the start of the project almost 3 years ago. (Sorry for taking so long!) The guys from Abstraction Games as well, our long time friends and colleagues who helped bring the game to Vita and went above and beyond in the final push to release. We also want to thank all of you here on Playstation.Blog and all the people who kept sending us emails asking about the game. Your comments, feedback and emails have meant a lot to us and gave us the energy to push through the more difficult moments. Most importantly though, we have to mention how much our friends and family played a part in getting Kick & Fennick across the finish line. Without their love and support we would have crashed and burned a long time ago. We’re are extremely excited (And terrified!) to see what you think of the game and hope you have a great time playing it! As always we’ll stick around for any questions you might have. Thank you all! –Vincent and Laurens View the full article
  8. Your team is being decimated. Everyone’s down to 10 HP or less. But there’s hope, one more slash and the enemy’s toast. Kisaragi has the initiative so you tell her to attack. This is it… “I don’t want to, and you can’t make me!†Wait. What? Not really what you expect to hear when you ask your teammate to do something in an RPG, is it? Criminal Girls: Invite Only reimagines the obedient teams of traditional RPGs under a new paradigm. These girls didn’t volunteer to help you. They’re delinquents who have been damned to an eternity in Hell. It’s your job to teach them the value of hard work and guide them on their way out of the fiery embrace of Hell. So who are the sinful girls you’ll be turning into a cohesive and heavenly team? Let’s meet them. Kisaragi is the first firebrand in your troupe. From the get-go, her obsession with status and money are apparent. Her tongue is sharp, and her words can turn to venom. Turned in the right direction though, she can be a great asset to your team. Alice is the quiet one. To call her mysterious would be an understatement. Constant whispers beneath her breath, half-spoken sentences, and allusions to things that could be illusion or real. Looking into her seemingly vacant eyes could be enough to give the most stalwart man chills. Tomoe is the type of girl I dreamed of in the heady days of puberty, and she knows it. Her words make people dance like puppets, and she seems to always get what she wants. Though her body looks soft, she’s tough enough to break you in two, and isn’t afraid to slice and dice if you’re not nice. Shin is unashamedly my favorite. She’s smart and a hardcore gamer at heart. Her MMORPG mastery makes her excellent at strategizing, but unfortunately, she’s the type to rage-quit. Teaching her inner calm could just make her the most useful member of a coordinated team. Sako tends to border on the overbearing. She’s constantly looking out for her sister, Yuko, and can turn into a little ball of rage when something threatens either of them or their relationship. If you get her to calm down, maybe her fiery temper could be guided in a more useful direction. Yuko is a nurturer by nature. She’s grown up worrying for her sister and making sure that everything’s okay. Unfortunately, she’s also the laziest girl I’ve ever met. Not exactly who I’d want to be taking care of my ailing Grandpa, if you know what I mean. If she were a bit more motivated, I bet she’d be great at giving sponge-baths though. Ran doesn’t quite run the show, but does run over people. She might have been the leader of her local chapter of the MMA club when she was alive, so it’ll take some work to get past the defensive walls she’s built up, but it’s well worth it. Each member of your team has their own personality and unique backstory to uncover. Why are they condemned to Hell? What are the sins you must help them atone? Discover each woman’s unique past as you guide them through the Reformation Program tomorrow. Consider this your invite. For more information, check out the official site. View the full article
  9. The IGN First for February 2015 is Bloodborne, and I couldn’t be more excited about that. As a huge fan of the Souls series, I jumped at the chance to helm this project. In preparation for our month of coverage, we flew to Japan to visit the offices of From Software, as well as Sony Japan Studio, and let me tell you, we have so many awesome things in the works. We’re proud to kick off the month with the first 18 virtually uninterrupted minutes of Bloodborne. I could gush on and on about how great the opening is, but honestly, the footage speaks for itself. The capture is from a slightly older build and the game is still under development, so definitely be aware of that if you notice a rough edge or two. The rest of February is going to be packed with amazing reveals, including brand-new enemies, crazy new environments, and so much more. We sat down with Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki and picked his brain about what makes his games so appealing to us masochists. And of course, we spent hours going hands-on with a good chunk of the game (Spoilers: we died a lot). So sit back, relax, and prepare for the hunt. View the full article
  10. The PlayStation Now subscription service launched on PS4 last month with more than 100 games, and we’re just getting started. We’ll add games to the service each month, ranging from big blockbuster hits, unique indie games, and everything in between. Perhaps you had a PS3 but missed some of these games, or maybe you never owned a PS3 at all — either way, our PlayStation Now subscription service offers an easy and convenient way to catch up on your backlog. Of course, you can choose from two subscription plans — monthly for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). This month you’ll find 5 additional games spanning a range of genres. All of these games will be added to the PlayStation Now subscription library on February 3rd, bringing the total of games you can play with your membership to 109. Also, make sure to check out the weekly PlayStation Store Update post to see the new games available to rent on PlayStation Now. Uncharted 2: Among ThievesFortune hunter Nathan Drake returns in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, a pulse-pounding, third-person adventure created by award-winning developer Naughty Dog. Down on his luck, Drake is lured back into the treacherous world of thieves and mercenary treasure-seekers he had sought to leave behind. When a mysterious artifact propels Drake on an expedition to find the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala, he finds himself embroiled in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse against a fugitive war criminal who’s after more than just the fabled riches of the lost city. God of War II HDKratos, the once mortal warrior turned ruthless god, sits atop his throne on Olympus as a threat far worse than his predecessor Ares had ever been, striking down anyone who crosses his path or the path of his beloved Sparta. The “Ghost of Sparta†sets out to alter that which no mortal or god has ever changed. His fate. Red Faction: ArmageddonMars is drowning in chaos. A separatist faction of Marauders intent on wiping out the Martian colonists has destroyed the terraformers and sparked a decade-long war that has rendered the planet’s surface uninhabitable. Forced to rebuild their society underground, the colonists cling to whatever hope for survival they can find. Galaga Legions DXThe legendary hit arcade shooter returns with Galaga Legions DX! Featuring a new twist on the classic gameplay, slick new graphics and devastating weapon power-ups, the fate of the galaxy lies in your hands! Board your fighter and prepare to defend Earth from wave after wave of relentless aliens. Target your enemies’ critical weak spots to earn bonuses and rack-up an astronomical score. 12. Starting OSome Studio was a pretty frightening adventure in the beginning. I met Domenico Albani and Mathieu Fremont while employed together at Eden Games, where we worked on the fifth instalment of Alone in the Dark. We all went our separate ways after that project finished, picking up experience at other studios, but there was always the feeling of “what if†in the back of our minds. After a few more years of exhausting ourselves on blockbuster titles, the three of us took a step back and realized we each wanted to do something that would let loose our creativities and replenish our passions. OSome Studio was founded to produce original, refreshing games with powerful and immersive environments. We didn’t have much of a budget back then, but we shared a common vision for an original gaming experience and the will to make it a reality. It wouldn’t be a big project, but it would be ours to own. White Night is the product of that dream. Set in Boston in the 1930s, White Night is an old-school survival horror adventure with a distinct black-and-white film noir look that grabs you immediately. We wanted to create something that people would enjoy, but also something that would stand out as unusual and refreshing in today’s survival horror landscape. That meant revisiting the themes that made classic horror games like the original Alone in the Dark so gripping: mature storytelling, strong characters, compelling environments, and equal respect for tension and terror. White Night is a good old ghost story full of mystery, poetry, alchemy, and suspense. And true to classic survival horror fashion, it’s set in a deserted mansion. We worked everywhere — out of our homes, co-working sites, even in bars, partly to save money, but also because we were working as freelancers, and that meant going by a less rigid set of rules. It was a breath of fresh air that helped us get out of that old office development mentality we’d been so used to. We hunted for inspiration wherever we could find it. We listened to jazz music from the era. We drew from the bold look of black-and-white cinema, not only to define White Night’s art style, but to create a chilling game world in which scarce sources of light are the only ways to reveal your surroundings. We even went so far as to rent a real-life mansion in Normandy, where we stowed away for a week to talk about the game, take pictures of the architecture and, most importantly, steep ourselves in the setting. We wanted to get it all right. And White Night definitely reflects those efforts. When we reached out to Frederick Raynal, the author of the first Alone in the Dark, to show him a prototype of the game, we were thrilled to find out he was very enthusiastic about the project. I can’t truly describe how great it was to share tips and advice with someone so central to shaping the genre, but it was an extremely enriching conversation, and we came away more motivated than ever. We showed White Night to press and publishers for the first time at the 2013 Game Connection Europe show in Paris, where it was honored with several awards. The prize included — wait for it — a nifty PS4 development kit, which you can probably gather we put to good use! We sometimes have to pinch ourselves, because seeing our own independent design come to fruition — and seeing people really respond to it — often feels like a dream! Looking back on how far we’ve come, with only a few weeks left before launch, it’s hard to believe where all the time went. White Night, our little pet project that came to life while sharing a bar table, will finally be available for download on March 3rd. We hope you enjoy your stay at the mansion! View the full article

  14. When DmC: Devil May Cry launched in January of 2013, Ninja Theory introduced the world to a fresh interpretation of an iconic video game (anti)hero. Half angel, half demon, the Dante of DmC not only fought legions of demon spawn, but the misinformation of an evil corporation. The demon king Mundus took a CEO’s office, not a dark throne. It was a new game world, and Dante kicked its ass. Now the smart-talking Dante fights on in DmC: Definitive Edition, launching March 10th on PS4. It’s an enhanced version of the original PS3 game with a slew of new features and a layer of polish that makes Dante’s demon-killing exploits and confident gunplay even more satisfying. I had a chance to put the Definitive Edition through its paces, and managed to avoid embarrassing myself in the Bloody Palace along the way. Starting with the basics: the Definitive Edition runs at 60 frames per second in crisp 1080p. This propels the fast-paced combat and kinetic environments to new heights, enhancing Dante’s deft swordwork and the ever-shifting realm of Limbo. To fully wring every advantage out of these new performance upgrades, the Definitive Edition also features a Turbo Mode that amps the game speed up 20 percent. If you thought fending off hordes of twisted abominations was both a challenge and a thrill in the original version, just wait. The developers have also included a new difficulty level aptly named “Gods Must Die†in which all enemies have their Devil Triggers active when they spawn. This is the game’s way of saying “good luck, LOL,†and then throwing Dante into a giant hell blender. But what would Devil May Cry be without those over-the-top challenges that keep players coming back for additional punishment? DmC: Definitive Edition also comes equipped with a Hardcore Mode, which adjusts the combat design to feel more like the traditional Devil May Cry games. This means a more rigorous Style ranking system, modified Devil Trigger, and other tweaks to give gamers that worshipped the original series something else to sink their combo-hungry teeth into. Definitive Edition allows for the mixing and matching of these different modes, too, to give players an unprecedented degree of control over how the game plays. If you want to crank the difficulty, turn on Turbo and Hardcore, then bang your head against a wall, you’re welcome to do so. Most of these new additions are also reflected in Vergil’s Downfall, a campaign that follows Dante’s brother after the events of the main story and casts players as the arrogant, samurai-like Nephilim. As a bonus: Ninja Theory built an entire Bloody Palace just for Vergil in this edition, which means a new arena with dozens of enemy waves to train against and dispatch in short order. Even if you already cleared the original DmC, the Definitive Edition gives you a plethora of reasons to go back in with your fists swinging. Good luck with that SSS ranking. View the full article

  16. Just another day in the life of a high school student — wake up, go to school, walk back home, get stabbed in the heart by some demons, become a god… No big deal. If that sounds familiar to you, then you must live quite an exciting life. But for those who haven’t become a god, you can in NIS America’s new PS3 game The Awakened Fate Ultimatum, coming out on March 17th in North America. Guide ordinary high school student Shin Kamikaze (super epic name) as he learns the ropes of being god in The Awakened Fate Ultimatum. While sleeping on the school’s rooftop, Shin has a cryptic dream with a mysterious girl babbling about fate and saving the world, but is suddenly woken up by his friend. Thinking nothing of the weird dream, he heads home, but gets stopped by a group of demons flying down from the sky. One of the demons looks at him, apologizes, and then proceeds to stab him in the chest. As he’s dying, an angel swoops down to fight off the demons and takes him off to a place called Celestia. Awaking to a red-headed scientist named Ariael, he is told that the Awakened Fate crystal has been shoved into his chest to save his life, which has made him a god. Now it’s his job to fight in the war between angels and devils, and determine the fate of the world! This story-based roguelike RPG looks and feels similar to its predecessor, The Guided Fate Paradox. As Shin, you will jump into randomly generated dungeons, battle angels and demons, and collect items to survive each grid-based level. In these dungeons, every move counts. Your enemies will move when you do, so strategizing your approach to each level is key. Just don’t die — when you die, you’ll start from the beginning of the dungeon and lose all the items you were carrying. After fighting through all the levels of a dungeon, you are forced to make “Ultimate Choices†and must live with the consequence of those choices. Depending on the decision, you will be granted either angel or devil Choice Points (aka CP), which are used in the wing-shaped skill tree. In addition to equipping different items, you are able to customize Shin’s permanent stats and special skills by applying CP to either side of the skill tree. Go all angel powers or all devil powers — it’s your choice! The amazing art for this game is done by the one and only Noizi Ito, the artist behind anime like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Shakugan no Shana. Characters are high-resolution 3D sprites, perfect for the ridiculously over-the-top special attack animations. Not only will you see these gorgeous images in the attacks, you’ll get to enjoy them featured in the special scenes throughout the game. While being a god is cool, do you think you can make the ultimate decision? Will you side with the angels, lead the devils, or toe the line? And in the end — when faced with the death of the two girls you’re closest to — who will you save and who will fall? Make your ultimate decision on March 17th. For more information about The Awakened Fate Ultimatum, please visit the official site. View the full article
  17. So in our last post we said that Apotheon would be launching sometime in January. Turns out we were off by a few days. Apotheon will actually be launching on February 3rd, 2015. But, we’ve got a really good excuse! The reason for the short delay is because Apotheon will also be featured as part of Playstation Plus, and will be free for the month of February to all Playstation Plus subscribers for PS4! Check out our new launch trailer showing off a bit of our voice acting talent. While sorting out all the paperwork involved with this deal, we’ve had a bit of extra time to do even more optimizations and playtesting to polish off the last few bugs. With the help of Sickhead Games doing the PS4 version, we’re very happy with how the game has shaped up, and are very excited to finally release it to the world! Back when we first started development in 2012, our original aspirations were much different. Apotheon actually started life as a sci-fi open world game where the player could sneak around a giant space station and cause trouble with lasers and rockets. While trying to flesh out the narrative setting, we starting going in the direction of a sci-fi mythology, with technologically advanced godlike beings pulling the strings behind the curtain. Coming up with a unique mythology was troublesome, so we opted to simply transpose classical Greek mythology into a futuristic setting, with Zeus and friends puppeting hapless mortals from their sub-orbital space colony called Olympus. After doing some more research into the source material, it seemed interesting enough by itself to not even need the tacked on sci-fi elements. From there it was only a hop skip and a jump to get to the Apotheon you see now. Most of what we know about these Myths is told through the earthenware of the time. Pottery that sort of acted like story or comic books, depicting famous characters and heroes of popular legends. It made perfect sense that we adopt this artwork for our game, as it and the narratives they tell go hand in hand. Surprisingly, the art style hasn’t been utilized as much as would be expected, considering the influence of the Myths themselves in popular media. Aside from a few cinematics or flavourful intro sequences, not many games have made use of it at all. The black and red figure art of Greek pottery is almost the perfect art style for a 2D game. It is bold and instantly readable, with heavy use of symbols, ideal for conveying information to the player. It is flat and uses many patterns, perfect for efficient texture tiling for environments and levels. And most importantly, it is linked with some of the most interesting narratives in human history! And with that bit of our own history about Apotheon, we’ve got a few more days of hard work until we set it loose it upon the world on February 3rd! See you all on launch day! View the full article
  18. Hi everyone, Jmax from DONTNOD here, and I’m delighted to share the launch trailer for Life is Strange, which is out tomorrow on PS4 and PS3! We are all thrilled at the idea that players are finally getting their hands on our new game. It’s been an intense and sometimes challenging journey, but it was definitely worth it. And, well, it’s far from over, as the team here is very hard at work on parts 2 through 5, ensuring they get released at timely intervals so you always know when the next one is going to drop. The first episode that you’ll play is called Chrysalis, and it’s basically an introduction to the world of Life is Strange. You’ll see Max and Chloe reunite and you’ll make important choices that will influence their destiny. You will see some of the short-term consequences of those choices but bear in mind that there are also mid and long-term repercussions that will pan out over the course of the later episodes, in a butterfly effect manner. So you might rewind your choices as much as you want in the short term but you will never know what might happen further down the line. And of course we’ll ensure that you always get surprised by unexpected turns of events and that your experience really feels unique and customized by your choices. This first episode is also an introduction to the general mechanics of the game, and although Life is Strange emphasizes story and choice over puzzles, you will also see an evolution over the next episodes in terms of how you need to combine different types of interactions and rewinds. A trial is also coming to PS4 and PS3 so you can get a feel for the game before you make your first meaningful choice: to buy or not to buy! So that’s it, I hope you like the trailer and the first episode, and we already can’t wait to bring you parts 2 through 5! Enjoy. View the full article

  21. Get ready for a dream duel of epic proportions! Here at Sega, we are beyond thrilled to announce that Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is coming to the West exclusively for PS3 and Vita. Thanks to all our fans for supporting efforts to bring Japanese content like Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax over from Japan. We’re excited to reveal more about the game as we get closer to launch! Developed by Ecole and French Bread in cooperation with ASCII Media Works, this 2D fighting game celebrates the 20th anniversary of Dengeki Bunko with an all-star cast of their popular characters set against Sega-themed worlds. With playable characters such as Asuna from Sword Art Online or Kuroyukihime from Accel World, and support characters like Touma Kamijou from A Certain Magical Index or Izaya Orihara from Durarara!!, Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax makes the most unlikely of character matchups a reality. Fighting Climax features a fighting system that is both easily understood and complex, thus catering to veterans and newcomers alike. Using weak, medium and strong attacks, each of the playable characters have move sets that are similar in execution, yet differ in attack range, power and speed. Assist characters each have two moves that can either help you chain your combos or add a defensive strike, giving players a large range of flexibility in custom combo creation and play style. Speaking of characters, Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter and Selvaria Bles from Valkyria Chronicles join the battle as unlockable characters in Versus and Online multiplayer modes, along with their support character counterparts Pai Chan and Alicia Melchiott. In addition to an original story campaign in Arcade mode where characters are summoned to overthrow the evil Zetsumu, Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax features over 60 new vignettes in its Dream Duel mode. Exclusive to the console launch, these original cutscenes are penned under the supervision of Dengeki Bunko’s writers and add further depth to the interactions of this fantasy crossover of characters. But the fan service doesn’t stop there! All of the stages have been designed after some of Sega’s most iconic series, so prepare to go faster in the nostalgic stage themed after Sonic the Hedgehog or declare war against your opponent amongst the Gallian and Imperial tanks of Valkyria Chronicles. Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax will be available exclusive to PS3 and PS Vita in Summer 2015, both digitally and at retail. View the full article
  22. Hi everyone! This is Teemu from Frogmind. I hope everyones’ 2015 is off to an awesome start. I’m excited to be able to reach out to you and tell you about our plans to bring our award-winning action adventure game, Badland, to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita this spring with Badland: Game of the Year Edition. Badland was initially released in 2013 on tablet. It got a brilliant reception and has won numerous awards. Most important of all, it has been received heart-warmingly well by the gamers who play it. Our original goal in making Badland was to create a console quality game for tablets. Back then we were a team of two with too few resources to enter the console market. But we hoped to bring Badland here. Luckily, it did well and we can finally make this dream a reality. We’ve also got many requests for a PlayStation version from our fans. It’s great to finally be able to say that it’s coming soon. Badland is a unique mix of innovative physics-based gameplay, creative level design, power-ups — from cloning to growing to slowing down time — and stunning, atmospheric graphics and audio. It’s set in a beautiful forest with an ominous undertone. You control a flying creature, Clony, to find out what’s going on, and discover an astonishing number of imaginative traps, puzzles, and obstacles on the way. We wanted the game to be perfect on PlayStation platforms. The PS version builds on the atmospheric, hand-painted graphics of the original with enhanced, full-HD visuals. We put a lot of focus on delivering the best possible gameplay. The controls have been expanded for the analog stick and triggers and feel very natural. You can now fly backwards and control the speed of your flying, which was a change that required us to carefully modify all levels of the game to accommodate. Badland: Game of Year Edition features four times more content than the original did at launch. It has 100 single-player levels that take around 15 hours to complete. And it has another 100 co-op and 27 multiplayer deathmatch stages in an awesome up-to-four-person local multiplayer mode. The PlayStation versions have Trophies, as well as cross buy and cross save functionality. So not only can you continue your progress on your Vita after playing on your PS4, but you also need to pay only once to get it for them. Badland will launch this spring. We’ll be back on PlayStation.Blog to talk more about the game and reveal the exact launch date. So, if you’re into beautiful, atmospheric action adventures, or just want to try something unique, keep an eye out for this! I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions in the comments below! 25. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. And what a glorious morning it is! You know why? Because Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation comes out today, exclusively for PS Vita! For those who haven’t played a Hyperdimension Neptunia title before, it takes place in a world fittingly called Gamindustri, where four Goddesses — each representing a certain game console — battle for control of the land (while breaking the fourth wall at every opportune moment). In Re;Birth2, however, these Goddesses have been banished to an underworld by the piracy-loving Arfoire Syndicate and now it’s up to their younger sisters to save the Goddesses and save the day. A remake of the PS3 title Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, this game comes packed to the gills with new characters, new story, and new gameplay! You’ll encounter enemies like Super Otaku, living Tetris-like blocks, and screenshots of visual novels in battles that combine action RPG and turn-based RPG elements. Cut them down with 8 characters in battle — 4 on the main line, and 4 others that can jump in with support attacks or that can be swapped in at any time. Throw in the Lily Rank system that builds up links between characters to enable devastating duo attacks, main characters that can transform into super-powerful Goddess forms, and a roster of 20-something playable characters, and it makes for an infinite* amount of battle combinations to take down your enemies! Not only can you customize your battle setup, you can customize the world of Gamindustri itself! Want more enemies in a dungeon? Different items? More difficulty? Pick up the right Plan by talking to NPCs and you can implement them in the world of Gamindustri! You’ll want to talk to the NPCs anyway, since they are rife with gaming and otaku allusions. On top of that, you can also craft unique, ability-granting equipment using Blank Discs to max out your party’s powers! If all that wasn’t enough, you’ll also get the Stella’s Dungeon side-game, where you equip the helpful Stella with gear and send her off on a quest to find you extra items. Her quests run in the background while the Vita’s on, so you can go make yourself a sandwich and come back to some great loot. Watch out, though, because she’s in what appears to be a roguelike, so if she dies in her dungeon, she’ll lose all her equipment! As the internet might say, one does not simply enter Stella’s Dungeon. Whew, there’s still a ton of more stuff to cover, but I’m worn out! Suffice to say that Re;Birth2 comes loaded with a bunch of content that newcomers and veterans of the Hyperdimension Neptunia series can both appreciate. With all these character combos, subtle (and not so subtle) nods to the gaming world, and loads of customization, there’s no way you won’t have a blast in the world of Gamindustri, so get in there and break the fourth wall! *I’m not good at math.
