Yeah, the PS3 is pretty awesome. You should try ripping CD's with it

On your USB memory stick make a folder and title it "VIDEO" -- all caps, no quotes and put your video files in there, now you don't have to use the triangle button. It should see the compatible movies straight away.

I drink artificial sweeteners. For baking, cooking etc, I use Splenda. In my coffee I'll use Sweet&Low. I drink Diet sodas, Crystal Light and Sugar-free versions of Rockstar and Red Bull. I use Smuckers Sugar free breakfast syrup on my pancakes I'm diabetic though, so sugar will kill me long before I'd get any sort of cancer for artificial sweetener. The risks of getting cancer or dying from artificial sweeteners are insanely remote. Also, I think there's more dangerous things to worry about in our food and drinks.

I'm going to wait and see if it lives up to the hype. I think it's stupid and gimmicky that you have to pre-order the game to get the demo. I'm wary of any tactic like that to boost sales numbers. I'm patient, I'll wait it out. Back in the days of PS2, I was pre-order maniac. I'm older now and have learned my lesson.

I really wish they'd release more information about SOCOM Confrontation and what direction it's heading in. There isn't even a whisper as to adding in the features that were originally promised. Not a fucking peep as to the promised "once month and every 3 months" DLC on the PSN. This is my first (online) SOCOM, so I don't have a reference for how the multiplayer was in the old games or experience with Zipper but I've had quite a few "heart pounding" moments in this game and I've played quite a few shooters. What peeves me the most is the total disregard for keeping the SOCOM community updated. The SOCOM site still has that lame post that talks about clans and stats as if there isn't any other issues that are important. The fact that we're kept in the dark is what pisses me off the most. I read an interview with Seth that was from a couple of years ago and his vision of what he wanted SOCOM Confrontation to be. He want tight combat, an environment you could use in your strategy, rewarding people for knowing the maps, and rewarding teams for working together. I think in that regard, it's exactly as it should be. I think most people who are hardcore fans of the series, do not like the changes made to the game. I'm SICK AND TIRED of people crying and saying the graphics "look like ps2 graphics", wtf? For one, at the very basis of comparison you cannot even say that 720p is like the ps2's meager 480p. I think the people who say that are playing on crappy 4:3 SD TV's so they can't notice the difference as far as the textures go. There's no excuse for not noticing the increased polygon count though. The graphics are pretty damned good and very detailed. I've seen ingame footage of the old XR, DG, and FF maps and anyone saying that the graphics haven't improved needs to upgrade their AV equipment or get their eyes checks, clean their glasses, etc. I have the damned "retardo wheel" for weapons selection. It's stupid, stupid, stupid. I don't need to have played previous games to know that. It's clunky, awkward and slow. The only consolation is that everyone is using that same craptacular interface, so at least it's even. The invite system is garbage. I feel like I've taken increased latency pills whenever I need to send an invite. They need to implement some sort of cache system for the invite menus. Then they need to condense it and make it more efficient. I'm also fucking annoyed that people keep requesting MORE features. They already have their hands full trying to get the limited features/weapons/maps/etc shit that exists polished up. Sony and Slant Six screwed the pooch with this game. In this crumbling economy, you'd think they'd be a bit more focused on customer satisfaction. Keep us in the loop, keep are interest. Don't post some whack generic post on a blog that doesn't address 8 out of 10 major issues. And if there were top ten issues, those cited would be #'s 9 and 10, imo. I've seen the old slant Six games site and it was pretty nice. It seemed like it was put together to look "hip and cool" like so many Flash based sites these days look. I don't care of their site was put together on MS Frontpage 98 because their site doesn't equal the quality of their game. Look at the SOCOM.com site and see what amounts to a blog that most anyone can make with one-click in Fantastico Deluxe. This is my first SOCOM, and while I only played the first two in single-player modes, I can see why the series and the gameplay are so addictive. We can all bitch but the fact of the matter is if we genuinely didn't like it, we'd have traded in and we wouldn't bother posting about it. The thing to be worried about is if people stop caring. Confrontation has some things going for it, or it wouldn't be the game that's in my PS3 9 times out of 10 when I turn it on. It wouldn't be the number one bitched about game on the Official Playstation forums if people weren't passionate about it. A lot of people criticize Seth for screwing up the series but at the very least, some of the core elements of gameplay are still there. Maybe the series is dead but I'd like to think that what got me hooked from the first time I played it online with my clan is enough to keep SOCOM around. MAG MAG MAG--I'm so sick and tired of hearing about that upcoming "MAG" from Zipper. I've read lots of old forum posts on the internet where people are crying their vagina's out because they hated Zipper so much and how they'd never buy a Zipper game again and now their heralding MAG like it's some magical game that's going to be like SOCOM. Well, if Zipper were doing another SOCOM, they'd have been developing it instead of Slant Six. Unfortunately, Zipper was already involved in a project (ie MAG) and the rookie team got the contract. We don't know jack shit about MAG and so it's impossible to be have so much faith that it'll be awesome. The fact of the matter is that not everyone will be happy with SOCOM Confrontation but when it plays good it's awesome and when it's sucking it fucking sucks. Slant Six should have stayed making games for the PSP platform and SOCOM Confrontation shouldn't have been released until it was finished. In essence we're playing a beta and as long as I look at it like that, it's an easier pill to swallow. At least I bought it with the headset bundle so the game was just $20. Right now, SOCOM is the only game where you can get as many people on and all play together, bullshit around in the dead room or the lobby and generally have a good time. And like Lex said, at least there's a game we can all play together and sometimes, that's a bit more important than the game's flaws. I have been bitching about this game since the beta. I was one of those people who got fired up when others told me that "the beta is just a beta". How fucking wrong were they, eh? It's gotten better since then though, that's for sure. Now if they could fix the constant lag outs and game/PS3 freezes, it'd be a little less stressful.

This has to be my favorite Obama pic. It's not factual but it's funny as hell. ;D

Someone mentioned they got Burnout Paradise for $19.99 from CC? That's the price of the game now (brand new anywhere), because it's become a "Greatest Hits". The newer ones have a red case that said "Greatest Hits" on it and the disk.

What is your gameplay style in confrontation
bizzyb0t replied to _-DENIED-OPS-_'s topic in Playstation
I don't have patience for camping but i realize it's a viable strategy in this game. Most of the time, I'm running right into the thick of things and getting mercked like a fucking noob. But when I've taken my Valium, I'll flank the enemy, nice and leisurely, and be a very good decoy and bullet magnet for the rest of my team. ;D Seriously though... I need to be more patient my K/D is garbage. It really depends on the game type. I'm a really good Demo player but I suck at Elimination or Suppression for instance. I prefer goal oriented games. I love sneaking around and capturing control points while everyone else is camping and playing it like it's Elimination. Generally, I'll got for the bomb in Demo and try to take out as many of the other team and if I get lucky, grabbing the bomb for a quick plant. On the other side, I like to rush their bomb plant and camp, when they plant, I'll sneak up and diffuse it while their backs are turned because they're just all so eager to get that last kill. I've diffused the bomb on Demo maps without even shooting at anyone. A win is a win, it's not all about killing the other team.- 45 replies

Man, I want DIVX 7 full support, so that I can play HD MKV files on my PS3. Converting multi-GB files into MP4 is a pain.

Those are two excellent points you made Goat. With how long it took for the patch 1.30 to come out, the hype was reaching mythical proportions. It was supposed to be the end all patch for SOCOM. We got a few measly blog posts and tons and tons of speculation. In the end, the patch sorta delivered on most of it's promises. I think they missed the mark on the "late join hiccup" though... that was supposedly being fixed in this patch. And oh yes, more maps would be VERY welcomed. However, I think they're not going to release new maps until the game is "complete". I'm getting sick of the same 7 maps however with the new medley modes, at least there's a bit more variety in the medley rooms. They need to get rid of the larger maps for the 4v4 rooms though and stick to Xroads, Kasbah, Frostfire and DG. If they would have waited to release this game, I think it'd have been worse than it is now because basically, we're playing a beta I've been lurking on the PS boards and I am utterly convinced that no matter what /6 or Sony do, people will complain. People are already bitching about the grenades being too powerful.
-
Nah, I didn't post this on the PSN forums, I should though.
-
I flip-flop on whether my feelings on this though... When the game is running really well, I love it-- even though it's mostly incomplete. Other times, when it's craptacular, I wish they'd have just waited, extended the beta and released a complete well-oiled machine. Seems that SCEA greased the skids on this one and had it released before it was finished.
-
See edit... ;D
-
OH NO GUYS!! I knew this was going to happen if people kept complaining, but I can't really blame the complainers!! :'( ;D ;D ;D it's a joke guys

Thanks Slant Six for pimping my SOCOM! YO DAWG I HERD U LIEK PATCHES. SO I PUT A PATCHED PATCH IN YOUR GAME SO YOU CAN PATCH YOUR GAME WHILE YOU PLAY YOUR PATCHED GAME.

I got the R2 beta through Qore but I bought the year subscription, so I could just get all the betas and episodes instead of having to worry about ordering individual episodes one by one. I'd forget that way I got an e-mail to the same e-mail addy I signed up for the PSN with. Then, you go to the *new* "redeem code" link in the PSN store (upper right corner, there's a new icon), enter the code and the beta is in your download basket. Also, as far as I know, you can't share the code.

If there was no difference, then they'd have just pushed the release back again. :-\

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one seriously ticked off that I can't play a game I bought. I bought the game/headset bundle and to me it feels like I got a bonus beta disk along with my headset. It'd be nice to be able to play when I have time (ie, late at night). Maybe we'll get a "late-night player" expansion pack-- $14.99 for guaranteed late-night play and logging into the server with special priority. I played the beta and had to endure tons of Slant Sux bootlickers telling me that "the beta is old code", "Slant Sux has a gold copy of the beta already", "the release won't have these same problems"-- Now, they're saying, "give them a chance, it just was released", "they'll fix it, give it time", "don't be so hard on them, they're trying". Well, piss on that. I just played the Resistance 2 Beta. And while it's not exactly my cup of tea, it was smooth, slick and not a single hiccup with TONS of people playing online and in the rooms and maps at once. Oh, and it already went "Gold". Insomniac knows how to do it. Slant Sux needs to get some pointers from the R2 team on how to roll out a beta and get it done. R2 has offline and online campaigns, massive player numbers and it just feels polished and slick. SOCOM on the other hand feels like a rushed beta. Sony should have anticipated that at least everyone who bought a copy of the game would be online to play it and allow some overhead. It's a shame that an anchor franchise that has it's home on the PS3 is going to go down in history as the exact thing not to do when releasing a major MULTI-MILLION UNIT franchise game. Slant Sux and Sony should have been prepared, come on. On a positive note, the bit I've been able to play since purchasing this game has been pretty good. It should be-- it's basically 20 weapons, 7 maps and online only, I expect it to be fucking spectacular. So far, it's been like getting a lapdance from the ugliest stripper in the club but it's kinda dark, and you don't mind so much because your half drunk but horny as hell. Oh wait... :-X I don't want "barely acceptable". I don't want "potentially awesome". I want it to kick ass, and i want it to kick ass NOW. They already have my money. Right now it's like I just loaned them some money. And everyone knows that fronting is for fools.
