  2. As the gaming press gathers on the West Coast for a week of preview events, the sequel to 2006 smash hit Gears of War was by far the biggest news to come out of Microsoft's Tuesday press conference. Gears 2 takes over the story six months after the close of the original Gears, as humanity faces a new and more deadly threat from its Locust enemies -- and features even more explicit violence than its notoriously bloody predecessor. Could Microsoft's newest action game have gone too far? Gears of War was famously banned in Germany, after the country's ratings organization declined to issue the game an age certificate. Gears 2 covers much of the same ground, but adds in more realistic visuals, a deeper plot, and battles that concentrate more on mobility and dynamic combat than the original, which some decried as a prettier version of the old "whack-a-mole" parlor game. Graphics and plot aren't just what raised eyebrows at the press event, though: instead, attendees caught a glimpse of one of the game's many melee kill moves. Whereas Gears 1 included an up-close attack that used a chainsaw blade on the lead character's main weapon to dismember a foe, Gears 2 adds a reverse attack that actually slices an enemy in half -- from the groin upwards. Elsewhere in the demo, presenter Cliff Bleszinski, the celebrated lead designer behind the Gears and Unreal series, showed off a new ability that let him use the corpse of a fallen enemy as a "meat shield", soaking up bullets while he returned fire around its head. One thing's for sure, though: the Gears of War gameplay Xbox 360 owners know and love is alive and well, and although it's definitely kicked the violence up a notch, like its predecessor it's going to be a good fit for the "Mature" ESRB age category, which will bar its sale to youths under 16. Whether or not the German censors will take a different view on its violence this time round remains to be seen -- but we're not going to be betting on it. Gears of War 2 is expected in November, just in time for the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, but we're expecting to see more of the game at this year's E3 trade festival in July.
  3. There isn't..!? ;D
  4. Surprizing info about common drinks.. http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/Drink-This-Not-That/index.php Click on the drink type menu on the left.
  5. That is my only complaint. It's feels to me alot more like a drinking game. The amount of FUN on this game with yer friends is sick. The endless possibilities can keep you enthralled for hours. That being said, I think if you try to treat this as a clan based game and get tactical, it will kill the fun. The controls leave alot to be desired, especially to people that aren't habitual GTA series junkies. I know if I'm playing tactical, my controls damn well better be on point. The sloppiness of COD frustrates me sometimes, and it's a good control system. Also, the game modes weren't thought out that well. They feel kinda rushed. I think for this to work as a tournament, it'll have to be laid out more like a giant role-playing game. Like; Instead of playing team deathmatch or a set game, make your own variations of Cops and crooks, Protect the boss or whatever. Races attached to storyline, like 1 [Dv8] driver racing against 1 driver from [<N>] point A to point B, for said prize. Then maybe have the other clan members IN CARS ONLY, NO GUNS, trying to interfere. Run opposing drivers off road, set up road blocks, and things like that. That would prolly end up being insanely extensive though. Who watches that no racer goes off-course, writing all the back drop for individual weeks. The list can go on and on, but those are the possibilities the game offers. Hell you could have "hired" guns, that don't belong to a clan because he is the only one playing GTA in his clan. So let the guy do "contract" labor for other clans. Changing rosters as he changes allegiances. Gangsters are gangster like that. ;D Maybe none of this works or anything, but IMO it should be looked at from a completly different viewpoint than ALL of the team oriented/tactical games we know and love. I got a billion cool ideas in my head, but who knows if any of them could pan out. DEAD ON.!! I think its under construction.. & we are the apprentices to their journeymen. ;D
  6. Yea, It is definitely far from a socom or CoD4 type of game, but thats what makes it even more fun is not having just ANOTHER shooter.. I think it would be fun using all the different game types, Death Match, Cops & Crooks, Races, Mafia, TCJC, etc.. A Race week would be pretty damn fun!! "Cannonball Run" is my favorite.! We could use the "Free for all" or "Race" for choosing sides, or home field advantage, or as an all-star break or charity type of week, etc.. It definitely wont have that same feel as a regular shooter/clan experience.. but it would still be LOADS of fun
  7. Dude you live in HB..? wtf.!? I was there yesterday for the NSSA Surf contest (and "Chronic Tacos"). My friends nephew won (11 years old) I think we may have talked about it before boody, but i lived in that area for 25+ years.!! (West Side.. Cupertino & Santa Clara)

  11. weee, i can cut & paste too. ;D ------------------------ "Centennial Bulb" still burning after 107 years Buzz up!on Yahoo!Hanging about 18 feet high in the engine bay of a Livermore, California firehouse, a humble, low-watt light bulb has been burning almost continuously since 1901. Take that, halogen! The Los Angeles Times (via Boing Boing) recently ran a story on the remarkably resilient Centennial Bulb—a four-watt, curlicue carbon-filament lightbulb that, give or take a few brief interludes, has been burning for 24 hours a day, seven days a week for more than a century. The bulb has become something of a lucky charm for Livermore firefighters, who (according to the LA Times story) won't even dust off the bulb for fear of damaging it. Indeed, when the department moved to a new fire station in 1976, firefighters decided to cut the power cord rather than unscrew the fragile bulb from its socket. A motorcade of fire trucks then accompanied the Centennial Bulb (which, according to Wikipedia, was only off for about 10 minutes during the short journey) to its new home, where it's been burning continuously ever since. What's the secret to the Centennial Bulb's longevity? As the LA Times story notes, there are many theories. One former firefighter thinks it's because the bulb, made by the long-defunct Shelby Electric Co., shines in a cool-burning vacuum thanks to a perfect seal. Others chalk it up to the fact that the bulb has almost never been turned off. In any case, the Centennial Bulb has been drawing curiosity-seekers and news stories (including, of course, this one) since 1972, and the bulb even has its own Web site—which, unfortunately, appears to be down for now (probably due to a burst of traffic). Check out the LA Times Web site for the full story, including many more details on the bulb's storied history. So, any theories on why the Centennial Bulb has been burning for so long? ------------------------------------ German saved after buried in China's earthquake BEICHUAN, China - A German tourist and a 52-year-old man were rescued Saturday — nearly five days after being buried by a powerful earthquake that ravaged China's Sichuan province, state media reported. The news comes as authorities prepare for the daunting task of housing and feeding millions left homeless by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake Monday. Officials have said the death toll could reach 50,000. The tourist was dug out of rubble after being buried for 114 hours in Wenchuan, the quake's epicenter, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The man was rescued after being buried for 117 hours under a collapsed building in Beichuan, Xinhua said. The reports did not give more details. The two survivors were the latest of several people rescued far past what experts call the critical three-day "window" for finding survivors. China Central Television reported Saturday rescuers extricated a 10-year-old girl who was trapped under her collapsed elementary school for 100 hours. With the help of a crane, dozens of workers removed the fourth-grader from the rubble of Yingxiu Central Elementary School in Wenchuan on Friday evening after working all day. A dozen students had been rescued from the school, CCTV said. The girl's condition was not known. CCTV said medical teams were treating the girl, who looked like a dusty rag doll when she was pulled out of the wreckage, missing a shoe and with a white cloth tied over her face to protect her from the blinding light after being in the dark for so long. Rescue teams recovered 163 people alive on Friday, CCTV said Saturday. President Hu Jintao, who arrived in Sichuan on Friday, was shown on television comforting survivors and encouraging soldiers carrying out rescue work. The vast majority of survivors are rescued in the first 24 hours after a disaster, with the chances of survival dropping each day, said Dr. Irving Jacoby of the University of California. A person trapped but uninjured could survive for a week or even 10 days, and in extreme circumstances two weeks or more. "They could live for a week without food but water is needed" to prevent dehydration, said Jacoby, who heads a San Diego-based medical assistance team that responded to a 1989 earthquake in California, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and other disasters. Continuing aftershocks make digging through unstable buildings dangerous. An aftershock rattled parts of central Sichuan province on Friday afternoon, Xinhua said. A number of vehicles were buried on a road leading to the epicenter, but the number of casualties was unknown. Rescue teams from South Korea, Singapore and Russia got to work Saturday. They joined a Japanese specialist group, which was the first international rescue crew to arrive in the disaster area after China dropped its initial reluctance to accept foreign personnel. A U.S. Air Force cargo plane loaded with tents, lanterns and 15,000 meals left Hawaii on Saturday, the first aid flight from the United States to help in Sichuan province. Another Air Force delivery was to fly in from Alaska. The United Nations announced a grant of up to $7 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund, to be used by U.N. agencies and programs. The government has not given a figure for the number of people left homeless, but Housing Minister Jiang Weixin said more than 4 million apartments and homes had been damaged or destroyed in Sichuan province. He said the water supply situation was "extremely serious" in Sichuan, and not flowing at all in 20 cities and counties. Caring for the untold tens of thousands or more survivors across the earthquake zone was stretching government resources. Just north of the provincial capital of Chengdu, the town square in Shifang was a tented encampment for 2,000 people, and coordinator Li Yuanshao reported a lack of tents. Many people walked in from surrounding towns with few belongings. "We brought almost nothing, only the clothes we are wearing," said Zhang Xinyong, a high school junior who walked several hours to the camp. In the town of Yingxiu, helicopters dropped leaflets urging people to "unite together" and giving tips like not to drink dirty water. Power and water remained cut off, and dazed and exhausted residents had hike 40 yards up a steep hill to a spring to fetch water. On another hillside, at least 80 corpses in plastic body bags were placed into a trench dug by soldiers. The confirmed death toll had risen to about 22,069 on Friday, but another 14,000 were thought to be buried in Sichuan. ------------------------------------- Heat Is On! Record-Breaking Weekend Heat Expected LOS ANGELES Get ready for some record-breaking heat! The sweltering hot weather hit 101 degrees in Woodland Hills Friday and expected to continue throughout the weekend. Saturday's highs are expected to be nice at the beaches, in the mid-70s to lower-80s, but inland and in the valleys, temperatures will range from the mid-90s to over 100 degrees. A weak-to-moderate offshore flow caused by strong high pressure over the West Coast is the culprit behind this latest heat wave. A cooling trend will start early next week. Woodland Hills broke records for its hottest May 16, topping the previous record of 100 in 1967. People are urged to wear loose, light-fitting clothes, drink lots of alcohol, avoid alcohol, check on neighbors without air conditioning, avoid the sun and unnecessary exertion when outside. "When temperatures are high, prolonged sun exposure may cause dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke," said Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Los Angeles County's public health director. "Never leave children, elderly people or pets unattended in closed vehicles, even with the windows cracked, since temperatures can quickly rise to life-threatening levels," Fielding said. ------------------------------------ Relocate-America.com ranks top 100 cities in its annual list Apparently, there's just something about North Carolina. For the second year in a row, America's best city in which to live lies within its borders, according to Relocate-America.com's annual list. This year, Charlotte, N.C., is in the top spot, the site announced this week. Last year's winner was Asheville, N.C., which slipped to No. 7 on this year's list. "North Carolina is very active on our radar," said Steve Nickerson, president and CEO of HomeRoute. "It continues to get a flood of interest from all over." HomeRoute is the real estate firm that operates Relocate-America.com, a source of community information and real-estate resources for those who are relocating. Each year, the site ranks the top 100 places to live in the country. Areas need to be nominated on the site in order to be eligible for the list; more than 2,000 were nominated this year, Nickerson said. Special efforts are made to prevent spamming campaigns from influencing the results, he added. But the site's editorial team also takes into account an area's growth, its educational and employment opportunities, crime rates and housing options before granting it a spot in the top 100. Environmental highlights also play a role, with a city gaining points for good air and water quality or the strength of its recycling efforts, Nickerson said. Home-price appreciation does get some consideration, however it's only one piece of the analysis, Nickerson said -- explaining why some struggling real estate markets in California and Florida, for example, still made the top 100. Areas that offer a comfortable climate and economic opportunity tend to be the most sought-after communities on the site, he said. Charlotte's diversity of housing options and home affordability were two of the reasons users nominated the city, Nickerson said. The city's strong economy, boosted largely by the banking industry, was another selling point. Second on this year's list was San Antonio, Texas, which people praised for its cost of living, recreational opportunities and diversity, he said. Chattanooga, Tenn., came in third place, noted for its vibrant downtown and affordable home prices in the nominations. Below are the top 10 cities in Relocate-America.com's 2008 list: 1. Charlotte, N.C. 2. San Antonio, Texas 3. Chattanooga, Tenn. 4. Greenville, S.C. 5. Tulsa, Okla. 6. Stevens Point, Wis. 7. Asheville, N.C. 8. Albuquerque, N.M. 9. Huntsville, Ala. 10. Seattle, Wash.
  12. I agree.. Plus what WE pay for food & what it costs them is WAY different. I'm thinking $2.00 is plenty for inmates.!
  13. Yer gonna wish you were Irish instead of German.
  14. I think you were only 15 minutes late.. I would think that is excusable.
  15. Not sure i would admit to that. lol
  16. Totally agree..!! There is no way it will be out in 2008 more like.. slated for late 2009, but probably pushed back to 2010. Also cant possibly be true.. there is no way ANYONE would bother putting that much time & effort into a staple game such as Socom & not have it in HD quality. (i hope)
  17. IGN still says Sept 08, but no day.
  18. I was going to say the same thing. Boondock Saints is the shit.!
  19. Really.. thats weird, but since they are user made i guess it makes a little sense.
  20. 65 nm GPUs for Xbox 360 now in production, Xbox ‘540’ coming in 2009 Taipei (Taiwan) – News about refreshed Xbox 360 consoles are trickling, which is about time given the fact that the console will celebrate its third birthday later this year. The Taiwan Economic News is reporting that first wafers with 65 nm GPUs are leaving the production lines, joining the 65 nm Xenon CPU. Rumors about a Blu-ray Xbox 360 remain alive and we are hearing first information about a possible mid-cycle refresh for the console, which will include the ‘Valhalla’ SoC. It has been almost a year since Chartered has begun taking the Xbox 360 Xenon CPU from 90 nm to 65 nm and it really was just a matter of time until other hardware would follow. According to the Taiwan Economic News, TSMC has initiated first wafer starts of the 65 nm Xenos GPU and Northbridge. Microsoft apparently has ordered 10,000 300 mm wafers from TSMC at this time. As it is the case with any die-shrink, Microsoft should see substantial economic advantages from this move, supporting the company’s ongoing strategy to reduce the production cost of the console (the reduction of the Xbox 360 production cost has been one of the key reasons why Microsoft’s entertainment division has been able to notably increase its profits over the past seven quarters). If the 65 nm Xenos "v2" scales down linearly from 90 nm, the new die size should be around 125 mm2, while the eDRAM chip will remain at 70 mm2. The new production process should yield about 35% more GPUs per wafer than before. TSMC will continue to be in charge of the wafers, while Nanya will be delivering the flip-chip packaging substrates. ASE combines the silicon and substrate and is responsible for QA. Quite honestly, we were a bit surprised to hear that Microsoft did not decide to die-shrink both the CPU and GPU at the same time, especially because two different foundries are manufacturing the chips. However, our sources at TSMC explained that Microsoft has the same production philosophy as Nvidia: Wait for a manufacturing process to mature and then run the initial wafer order. Apparently, the transition was simulated in detail by ATI and the tapeout happened without problems, at least according to our sources close to ATI. Keep in mind that ATI is only a contracted partner for Microsoft: Both the CPU and GPU are officially Microsoft parts, and the Ballmer-Gates company is the only one in the console segment following through with such a strategy. The Xbox 360 is scheduled to ship in an "all 65 nm" package (Jasper platform) this August. Consumers won’t notice the refresh, unless Microsoft decides to put a Blu-ray drive into the Xbox 360. We were not able to receive a confirmation either way, and we keep digging to find out if the Asustek subsidiary Pegatron will manufacture regular Xbox 360’s or units with an integrated Blu-ray drive. In any case, Celestica, Pegatron and Wistron will have a busy summer cranking out millions of refreshed Xbox 360 consoles. A more dramatic and perhaps visible change will happen next year: TSMC plans to begin producing the Valhalla chip, which will be the foundation of the mid-cycle refresh of the Xbox 360, thus called ‘Xbox 2.5’ or simply ‘Xbox 540’ (360+180), in fall of 2009. We learned that this new chip is apparently much more than a die-shrink and end up as a system-on-a-chip design. This change is likely to enable to redesign the Xbox 360 casing and go towards a slim-design, much like what Sony did with the Gen1 and Gen2 PS2. We believe that TSMC will use a 45 nm process for this Multi-Chip-Module package (CPU+GPU+eDRAM). There are also some interesting pieces of information that Microsoft is shopping for a more efficient cooling solution – efficient in more ways than just one: Several people close to the cooling industry told us that Microsoft approached them and asked for better and cheaper cooling than what is used in the Xbox 360 right now. Some may claim that the current Xbox 360 cooler design is already as cheap as it gets, but we have no doubts that Microsoft will find a way to drop the cost once again. 21. They sell em for people who need to take drug tests.
  22. Levitz = Cheap Furnature store ;D Also, just because any of them filed for bankruptcy doesn't mean they are going out of business.
  23. Weird i thought all PS3 games we're using the R1 button, but i guess now that it has a trigger like button they have switched it up. (xbox uses the same trigger style too)
  24. His comment is in regards to the new (about a year and half old now) legislation allowing LEO's, both active and retired, to carry their handguns across state lines. Yes cops are human, but the job doesnt end when the shift ends. Being an LEO is a 24/7 type of job. And as soon as there is no more Danger, Crime, or Criminals.. They wont NEED to carry them 24/7. ;D
