  2. Read about this on a blog I check frequently, http://www.makeuseof.com It basically is alternative start page which contains rows of Iphone-esque icons for websites you visit frequently. Very much like Google Chrome's (And Opera's before it) "Speed Dial" start page, except more customizable. It will let you add your own links and will often suggest an appropriate image if the site has been added before to someone else's desktop. Below is a link to the one I created and am using now. A number of the sites I added forced me to dig around for a suitable image to put in the icon, so there is a little more work involved than it may appear at first. Anyway, enjoy! http://www.symbaloo.com/public/6344/cj--s-desktop-2-0/
  3. Macoo/War 6og isn't welcome in our rooms per our leader. Nothing personal.
  4. I wonder if it is the same CTS who made an appearance in UF1 many moons ago.
  5. Prane, I don't know if 7 > Vista, but I have read multiple reviews from folks/blogs/etc who have been running the free beta... and it seems that the upgrade is a no-brainer if your system can handle it. There is currently a deal I am looking to take advantage of (which is why I asked the question) for $30-35 bucks, anyone with a .edu email can upgrade to the regular or pro version of 7. I found that info here: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1562761
  6. 1) Thanks for the uber quick response. 2) As much info as you feel like providing would be more then helpful, as I am looking to make a super-educated decision. If this was your PC, would you upgrade? Or would W7 suffer enough in performance that a well running OS XP makes more sense, and upgrading just to upgrade isn't a good idea? Anyone else who has insight, feel free to jump in as well.
  7. So, I'm kind of a tech junky and am looking to upgrade to Windows 7 on the laptop I currently own (and have owned for about 3 years). I'm curious as to if my system is capable of running Windows 7 or if I just need to sit with XP until I purchase a new system. I'm not completely PC-Stupid, I was of the understanding my system could handle it, but then I did some test (http://www.grc.com/securable.htm) and it mentioned I didn't have "hardware visualization" possible, and my processor was 32mb, not 64 (that much I knew). So now I'm not sure... and I'm sick of researching. Below are my system specs, can someone lay it out for me if I'm able to upgrade with my current setup? If so, will I be missing some features due to a lack of 64bit processor? Thanks in advance for any assistance. OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro (5.1 build 2600) Processor: 2 x Intel T2050 @ 1.60 GHz Graphics: GeForce Go 7300 (256mb dedicated card) Memory: 2046MB Ram Hard Drive: 80 gig (I always have a 250gb external hooked up for media) I can provide anything else that may be needed... but I think thats the key stuff.
  8. With deals like this going on before Halloween, this Black Friday is sure to be omgwtfepic... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999117800050002&type=product&id=pcmprd117900050002
  9. Pre-UF1 here. I tried out for APC a couple of months before UF went public. When Undertow told me I would be useful to have around for the tournament they had coming up, I had no idea what I was in for. I still remember APC's first UF war (vs HIT, which we won, they were led by some guy named Timber-Wolf), the map (crossroads). My other favorite moment would've been beating the other (former) host clan, ReD, in UF2. I also made the first non-creator post in the original UF forum public section. I've been a recovering post-whore for about 3 years.

  11. We up here in AK get screwed, 30 or so channels in HD only. :-\
  12. I'm looking for a way to watch every Bears game, online or on TV.... without have Direct-TV service (the only provider who offers the NFL Sunday Ticket in my area, if not everywhere). I came across a plan called "NFL Rewind" On NFL.com , which for $39.99 for the season (if you sign up before early September) offers any NFL game within 24 hours of it being aired in HD quality video. Has anyone tried this service, or know someone who has? If so, how long does it typically take for the games to become available for viewing? Is it worth the price? Does anyone have another way of watching out-of-area NFL games besides NFL Sunday Ticket? If so, please share. Thanks in advance for any review or suggestions.
  13. I've read many of Tow's page long posts over the years. That, by far, was the best. Good shit. Good luck to the new owners... ya'll are following a pretty impressive 6-year-long act. Long live UF!
  14. That was classic.
  15. The program used up available funds, from what I understand. If you want in on the initial go-round, the transaction must be done by tomorrow, 8/2.
  16. I don't think the UF site has been hacked since it's creation. Knock on wood, I guess.
  17. I thought this was interesting... I know there was a long-lived (and debated, iirc) thread on these things... looks like the government word is in... and its not favorable: http://gizmodo.com/5320734/fda-deems-e+cigs-as-bad-as-the-real-thing I'll be honest, I'm a non-smoker...so I don't care either way, but still a good read.
  18. I wasn't able to set up my account, maybe someone here might have additional info. It said my area code (907) had no numbers available, so I chose a number in Chicago. Then when I tried to do the test call, it wouldnt ring through to my cell or landline here in Anchorage. I'm wondering if its just a case of SOL for those in HI and AK? Or am I missing something?
  19. Not sure what constitutes "messing with", but at that age difference, the police can usually get involved...no? Also, you want to be careful on your end as well. If this post somehow (however unlikely) gets back to the kid, and he is smart enough (even more unlikely, sadly) to connect the dots back to you, I'm thinking he may have some legal action to throw your way. E-harassment is starting to gain credibility with local law enforcement, as I hear it.
  20. I'm proud to say that I'm one of the few who had the privilege of working within the confines of UF. It was a blast to have done so, and I'm very fond of the memories I'll carry with me from those days. Sniper & Tow: Thanks for all the hard work you fella's put into creating and maintaining this community. I know I've had countless hours of free entertainment because you guys chose to make it happen at a level unlike any of the competition. I'm sorry to see the golden era end, to say your leadership around here will be missed is a giant understatement. Best of luck to you both in your future ventures.
  21. Checking out those articles now. Thanks for the taking the time to respond Ghost. Much appreciated!
  22. I'm going to preface all this by saying I know my way around a computer fairly well, and currently have my Laptop (and external hd) working as a home media server of sorts. I know nothing, unfortunately, of "dedicated servers/web servers) and what is possible with current technology, and that is where my question is. Currently, I can share music, movies/tv shows and pictures over my local network through the windows media player option to do so. This allows me to play or "stream" the aforementioned media on my ps3 or xbox 360. The two issues of inconvenience are that the laptop must always be on to access the content, and that the external HD must always be hooked up to the laptop, making it less portable. I recently had this amazing idea of stand-alone "external HD" of sorts which would hold all my music, movies, tv shows, etc... while being accessible to every computer in the home via my network. I then realized I might be semi-retarded, because (from what little I know) a server matches that description. With all this in mind, my question is: 1) Is there a stand-alone device which holds media and is compatible with the PS3 for streaming the media it holds? From what I've read, some folks buy a desktop PC with this very idea in mind, set it up to share the media, and never bother hooking a monitor up to it again. Is this really the best setup for such a thing? 2) Is there any device which would let you allow you the same access to shared media which you could tap into from a remote location, as if you were home on your network? Thanks in advance for any help.
