  1. There was an article on espnchicago.com about the foul(s) last night (apparently D-Howard got away with an elbow in the Magic vs Sixers). I agree on that foul 'Lash. Big mistake by the officiating crew.
  2. Goat, Call back your cellular company and threaten to switch unless they eliminate those excess fee's... as a bonus to them, offer to sign up for unlimited text messaging. Most companies who offer optional services (gamefly, netflix, cellular companies, dish tv, even those which require contracts) can be strong-armed if you are patient enough on the phone. Don't take no for an answer, keep asking for a supervisor, their supervisor, etc. I recently avoided a $200.00 in internet overage charges, as well as got 2 free months of dish tv and had my new 2 year contract ripped up "simply" by giving them (GCI and Dish Network, for anyone curious) a call. Sure it took half an hour, but I don't make $400 an hour yet, so it was well worth my time. Afterwards, don't let your son know you have avoided the fee's, and reap the rewards come fathers day.
  3. I was pleasantly surprised on the margin of victory for D-Rose. An award well deserved, for sure.
  4. You're right 'Lash. I'm just hoping they don't let their intensity level drop one bit because they realize they can hang with Boston. They've dominated at home all season, so I'm expecting some solid play in the next couple of games.
  5. My f'n DVR stopped recording the at the 5 minute mark... so I missed the last bit of the game. I saw the shot by Allen on NBA.com though, pretty clutch to say the least. I agree that taking 1 of 2 at the garden is definately a small victory, but only if Chicago can step it up at home. Looking forward to game 3!
  6. This cycle has been going on since the beginning of time... 1) News article/post/review is put up on game B (not socom) with some remarks about how Socom compares (usually negatively) 2) Random socom fan gets offended that his/her game is being dissed, argues their case 3) (Relatively) pointless debate ensues I don't know that the Socom vs [Other Game] debate has ever switched someone over on either side. Socom fans need to live with the fact that there may be prettier, more polished games out there with better developer support. Fans of those other games need to realize that die-hard Socom'ers are in an abusive relationship, and are usually content to live under their rock and make the best of the situation. With that said, the patch looks impressive, I haven't had a chance to put in KZ2 yet, but I might try after I download it in the next few days.
  7. I'm expecting Salmons to have a better game tonight, and Rose to come back down to earth a bit. I can't say I expect them to beat the defending world champs on their home court again... but am certainly hoping for it. A matchup to watch for is Tony Allen vs Ben Gordon. When Boston put him in Gordon stopped scoring almost immediately.
  8. I just finished the game off the DVR (8:30 am start time here, ugh). Derrick Rose is f'n amazing. I laughed when Doc Rivers smiled after Rose fouled out. He knows if the Celts can't guard him any better than they did today, a series win is far from assured. Helluva game.
  9. I don't have a problem with you knocking him. It was just the use of "faggot" that reminded me of something I'd see on Gamebattles, which is why I made the post. Again, good luck with your group.
  10. Stuff like this just seems out of place on the UF forum. Honor, dignity and discriminatory language typically don't gel. Good luck with reforming your group, though.
  11. I took Tool's challenge to find an intelligent quote or two from the guy, not to prove anyone wrong as much as I was curious if the point was actually valid. While there is far more coverage of his gaffe's then anything else, I did find two quotes on the first site I checked which I felt were on the page for their wisdom, not humor: "Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble." "With all his tumid boasts, he's like the sword-fish, who only wears his weapon in his mouth. " Reading the second quote was especially interesting because it was the first time in the years I've closely followed professional sports that a talking head used a word I had to look up (tumid, which looks to be used correctly) Overall though, I think one's opinion of him is largely based on what you look for in a commentator. I'm the kind of guy who enjoys a happy go lucky goofball who has a propensity to sound mildly retarded at times. Others may disagree, but I don't think that there's much (if at all) in this thread thus far to prove he was worthless as a commentator and/or made anyone watching him less intelligent. Just my .02
  12. I'm not sure I get the "douche bag" thing either. I could understand a Mr. Magoo/absentminded grandpa angle (he was definately losing something in recent years), but he always seemed like a harmless old football nut to me.
  13. He didn't cover Bears games often, but I'm still going to miss the guy. I'm sure they'll keep cranking out his video game every fall though. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4073253
  14. ... and where else would it be, but the best sports town in the nation? http://www.espnchicago.com
  15. There is an article on the Denver post website quoting Elway as calling Kyle Orton "Decent". Was a pretty good read. http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_12060007 I think it's a pretty solid move for the bears. I think a lot of the folks who feel they paid too much don't account for the extra 3rd rounder they were awarded due to losing Berrian last year, and the fact that when trading for Cutler, Orton was no longer needed anyway. So it really boils down to the two first round picks. Yes, they will be missed, but ask any Bears fan if they'd trade those picks for the end of a 25 year cycle of QB suck-ness, and you'd get far more yay's than nay's.
  16. Agreed on the logo bit. But I'm also one of those (probably in the minority) who think that walking around the mall by yourself talking out loud without an actual phone next to your ear looks odd anyway.
  17. I've got the official one made for the PS3, and have had no trouble with it. I like the fact that it has a mute button, and have never been uncomfortable when wearing it. Not sure on cell phone compatibility though, to be honest. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/09/03/official-bluetooth-headset-for-the-playstation-3/
  18. After thinking about it a bit more, the current UF format may actually lend itself better to a "All-Star" war then ever before. - The war could be played on the rep meeting night (to avoid conflict with scheduled wars) at the mid-point of the Chain Reaction tournament (since with a set length, the mid-point can actually be defined). Having the war at the midpoint would make getting in touch with all clans involved easier (vs waiting till after the tournament is over). Another issue previously was that some clans disbanded before the All-Star war happened... with the advent of Hell Week, one would hope to assume clans disbanding on a whim would be less frequent than in times past. - With 16 participating clans, each clan could nominate two players it considers "MVP's" to their success in the tournament, or even two members who they feel best represent their clan. The reps can be in charge of these nominations, pm'ing a staff member with a set deadline 1-2 weeks before the war. Come wartime two teams of 16 would be comprised of the selections, with the two members of each clan being split up 1 per side (unless a draft method is chosen). - The clan with the most territories in Chain Reaction could have it's two members considered "Captains", who could either pick teams playground style, or just be considered leaders for the war, if picking teams is deemed too complicated. If a traditional three map war is played, the captains could be responsible for picking their team's map. The tiebreaker would be crossroads, cause it's the shit. - Post-war, the winning team could have their names listed in the UF HoF, and maybe Graphics god Sniper could make 'em a team avatar or mini sig bar declaring their success. Just some thoughts, but the idea is definately work-able. Getting this going would only give UF even more distinction from the other/lesser communities out there... and it'd be a nice bonus (possibly even incentive) for clans who pony up for the pay-tournies.
  19. From what I remember, when I tried to organize one after the third or fourth tacmap tourney, it was a struggle to find a way to contact some of the clans that were eliminated earlier (the earlier tacmaps had no set week time limit) and/or determine who their "all stars" would be. It's still a great idea, the one that we did have was hella fun.
  20. As I posted on the RVN forum... one company trying to take down the major players in the console market seems more of a joke than anything. Consoles didn't end PC gaming, this thing (at best) should aim to co-exist in the current gaming market.
  21. Relatively speaking (for the East and in light of their past success), they aren't doing all that bad this year... but I still laughed when I saw the headline. Check it out: http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/charlotte_bobcats_seeded?utm_source=onion_rss_daily ;D
  22. I'm almost tempted to "sig" this, just to get a "you fucker!" from ya Smokey. ;D
  23. I usually don't pay any attention to pre-release hype for any game... but this one definately catches my eye. One can only hope the end result is inline with the expectations.
