Porn industry seeks $5 billion federal bailout LOS ANGELES — In an announcement that launched a thousand unprintable puns, adult-entertainment moguls Larry Flynt and Joe Francis said Wednesday that they are asking Washington for a $5 billion federal bailout, claiming that the porn business is suffering from the soft economy. Francis insisted in a phone interview that this is no joke or publicity stunt, though his tone suggested otherwise. “The government’s handing out money to the auto industry,†Francis, producer of the “Girls Gone Wild†video series, said on the phone from his Santa Monica office. “Why shouldn’t it hand some to an industry the nation could not live without?†The request, Francis said, was being made in a letter to Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass, and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. The $5 billion figure, he said, reflects the decline in U.S. adult-entertainment- industry revenue from $18 billion three years ago. If porn producers are feeling the effects of what one wire service called “the sagging economy,†the pain might be felt most acutely in the San Fernando Valley. In 2007, revenue from more than 200 Valley-based adult-content companies was estimated at $1 billion. One adult-film star from the Los Angeles area said she is feeling the pinch. The actress who performs as Jenna Presley said her Web site has seen a 20 percent decline in customers, about 1,000 of whom pay $19.99 a month to watch the 22-year-old perform online. Presley said the downturn has forced her to cut overhead. “I said, ‘I’ve got to stop paying guys and girls to perform with, and I’ve got to find (other Web site proprietors) to do a content exchange with,’ †Presley said matter-of-factly. Instead of paying co-stars, she is posting their videos on her site and they’re posting her content on theirs. “I haven’t had any complaints,†Presley said. Other performers, Presley said, have faced pay cuts as video companies take the uncharacteristic step of tightening their belts. “I know companies are reducing their rates,†Presley said. “Instead of paying a girl $2,000 for a boy-girl (scene), now they’re trying to pay $1,200.†Presley said she has refused to work for less and so far has not lost business. “I stand up for myself,†she said. “A lot of girls, the business is so slow, they’re happy just to find work (at any price).†Despite all that, Presley said she considers the bailout bid by Francis and Hustler chief Flynt “a little crazy†and thinks companies need to cut unnecessary expenses. She said the porn industry, like the auto industry, is to blame for failing to change with the times. “I’m not taking this bailout request seriously,†Presley said. “I love Larry. He’s a great guy. But he doesn’t need $5 billion.†Her reaction echoed those of a San Fernando Valley congressman and the head of a Valley business group. “I regret that two porn-industry executives have used the current economic crisis to launch an obvious publicity stunt,†said Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks. “As Americans face tough economic times, we need a serious discussion of the issues.†Bruce Ackerman, president and CEO of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, said: “I don’t think it’s a reasonable request — and I would say that of any of the industry groups (seeking bailouts). “I don’t think you can laugh any of these requests off. I sympathize with any industry that needs help,†Ackerman said, noting that the adult-entertainment industry employs thousands of people in the Valley. “But is it something the taxpayer should be burdened with?†Flynt’s and Francis’ announcement coincides with the start today of the four-day Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. They hope to find support for the bailout bid from other industry leaders. “People are too depressed to be sexually active,†Flynt said in a news release. “This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such, but they cannot do without sex.†Adult DVD sales and rentals have decreased by 22 percent in the past year, the news release claimed, as viewers seek free porn online. Flynt and Francis will have some convincing to do even in Las Vegas, judging by the reaction of Steven Hirsch, founder and co-chairman of L.A.-based Vivid Entertainment Group, the 25-year-old company that bills itself as the world’s leading adult-film producer. “To think we’re going to go to Washington and get a bailout is a little unrealistic,†said Hirsch, who said he heard about the Flynt-Francis ploy in the media. “This is not the time to make sweeping statements. This is the time to buckle down and take the steps we need to save our industry. “This industry is not immune from (the bad economy). People are spending less money, period.†Hirsch said he thinks Flynt and Francis are “just poking fun at all the industries getting bailouts.†Hirsch said Vivid isn’t suffering as badly as smaller rivals because its prominent brand name gives the company “a leg up.†He declined to get specific about Vivid’s revenue. http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/stories/2009/01/08/flynt_porn_bailout.html

I do agree with an earlier post that MOST of the lag is a /6 side issue. BUT I also think that there are times where someone's connection causes issues on top of /6 errors. That being said, in our war, I personally really didn't see any issues, at least nothing that was out of hand. Now in rooms before hand YES Animal is right.
-
Then you leave the chance of someone entering the room seeing that is is 6v6. Right now I think the best option is to try and determine who has the best connection that is going to be in the war and have them make the room. Not only a good connection but someone that doesn't have network apps on like Limewire or torrents.

Lately Intel for CPU. The biggest thing you want is Cache, layer 2. If you can get a 4MB or 8MB Cache. Ram is all dependant on motherboard. When you purchase go to Crucial.com Power supply depends on add ons. If this is a gaming machine and you are going to do SLI 2 or 3 video cards you want 1200watts.

To me it sounds like your hardware is fine. Seeing that you have XP you can really only upgrade to 3GB of RAM. Get the RAM and while you are waiting for it to ship I would look in to upgrading to Pro. I would also consider backing up your data, formatting the HDD and starting fresh.
-
XP Pro? When did you reinstall Windows?
-
try crutchfield.com
-
Not that this is not possible, I have NOT seen this before, but when was the last time you formated and re-installed Windows? Maybe the hardware is fine but the software is Fd up? Go Here scroll down and download the latest version. It will tell you ALL about your hardware. Reinstall all your RAM and test it with this. IF it sees it all Windows may be the issue.
-
??? Thats weird.. so it is reading that you have RAM, but it is only reading half of it..?Are you sure you're checking the right specs..? NOT your video card memory, or anything else. lol Something is not right, but im no expert. Agreed something doesn't sound right! Your CPU has a socket type, that is what you need to find out what your kind is before you can use it on another motherboard.
-
I am worried that it is not the RAM but I hope it is because it is the cheapest fix. What you could do is check all 3 in slot 1. If they all work then add 1 to slot 2. If the system doesn't recognize it THEN it is the Motherboard. So if the 512 works in 1 and a 256 works in 1 put the 256 in 2 (512 in 1). If you don't see 768 then you need a new motherboard.

I had a 5.1 Kenwood and it was 9 years old. It did it's time and starting acting up so I went and got a Yamaha RX-V663 7.1 reciever. I don't need a ton of HD inputs. the only HDMI piece I have is the PS3. But I love it, sounds AWESOME. It has a speaker calibration, which most do now, but it told me my left front was wired wrong! Don't buy anything yet!! It could be another issue! This is what I would do. Use 1 stick at a time in EACH slot!! It could be you have 2 bad sticks or it could be your motherboard! Newer motherboards do NOT require pairing. Your setup should show 1GB. It does not matter if 4 is empty. Make sure each stick is good or no good. If all sticks work while in slot 1 but not in 2,3 or 4 then your motherboard could be going bad. Does that troubleshooting make sense?

Personally I don't like Kendra. I see her as rich Trailer Trash. She seems like a total bitch! -

I like the fact that he is a US soldier and wants to send the money to you in YOUR country? Wouldn't it be his country too? If it were legit ofcourse.

LinkSys, D-link, Buffalo and some say Netgear(I have had bad experience with Netgear) are good residential routers. Personally I have LinkSys and have not had issues, others have, but I suspect setting issues. LinkSys usually has VERY good hardware but suspect firmware, which has gotten better.
-
Not that this isn't the issue.... BUT what doesn't make sense is that IF it is a port issue it should have never worked in the first place. I too have mine in the DMZ so I shouldn't see port issues. If you don't, it wouldn't hurt to open those ports.

No LOL I just didn't want people thinking I was being an ass towards Seq! LOL Which I was ofcourse! ;D
-
I love giving Seq a hard time here and there. We usually get eachother pretty good. The best part is that even our sports teams are rivals so that just adds to the ribbing. He is an Indians fan, I am a White Sox fan although we both hate the Cubs. I will admit though, even though I am a Flyers fan, the Blackhawks have the #1 sports emblem in the world!! That Indian head is AWESOME! Hawks are my #2 team.

All that and not one mention of the product name. LOL Read the thread title, that is it.

My Fiance HATES video games, go figure, but I picked up a game that even she should enjoy. If you like trivia games you will like this. When everyone was over on Christmas day everyone wanted to play. It is a good party game, you can play online, single or with a party. There are 4 controllers so it handles 4 but we were doing teams of 2. The questions are not outrageously difficult! There are no questions like "what is the 3rd line in the 5th paragraph of Macbeth?" So even the kids were answering without to many issues. You can create your own quizzes for online and categorize it, sports, 80's music and so on. I wonder if there is a Socom category? LOL "Which Indian keeps getting scalped?" A:Sitting Bull B:Big Chief C:Sequoyah D:Stands with Fists So if you are looking for a party game it is fun and everyone will enjoy it. At Best Buy

Found this on the Playstation forums and thought it would be some good info for a few of you. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=2749209 I also found somewhere that the majority of the Yellow light failures were actually power supply failures, NOT overheating! Which kind of pisses me off. I have my A+ Certification which basically means I know how to disassemble and reassemble PCs. Now technically the newer consoles are PCs, obviously the cell processor is different but the other components are just slimmed down or modified so you would think we should be able to replace a Power Supply relatively easily. The part should run around $50. I kind of feel like an auto mechanic that can't fix his own car because a brake pad that is needed HAS to be supplied and repaired AT the dealer and ONLY the dealer.

LOL ;D
